the place itself is in desperate need of a «new coat of paint»; it’s outdated in a way that doesn’t come off as charming. it may have redeemed itself if it weren’t tourist-trap overpriced with under-quality and service that began a bit aloof before transitioning into just plain terrible. the place wasn’t too crowded, but it must have been busier than usual since orders went into some black hole, never to be delivered, with no hint of apology or regard. we felt gypped and unwelcome. a shame, really, since this could be a fabulous spot tucked in a prime spot across from The Majestic. perhaps management will work to make this spot worth visiting after hotel renovations are complete and some new carpet can be laid in the bar. it was convenient for our post-theater party, and we had great company to get us through the experience with laughter, so we weren’t mad as much as disappointed. all the service and quality fails bummed us out, man.

Good: actually open at 10am and had quick food cheaper than the restaurant in the Gunter Hotel. There’s nothing for a quick bite to eat for cheap. I walked around and around. TVs with volume on. Alot of smaller tables with a large buffet table top. Bad: Service is lacking. Unhappy bartender, wait staff. Inattentive. 15 minute wait to be greeted, 25 min wait for food. Food was okay. What I had: Corona, Reuben with salad. $ 13 What They Should Change: staff training. it’s a hotel and out of towners review this stuff. Sheraton should know this. Bottom Line: i’d skip it unless you don’t want to walk over to the Riverwalk and need a quick bite.

This place is part of The Sheraton Gunter hotel that we stayed in, so it was really convenient to just pop in after going out to dinner, etc. This bar is not the original bar that was in the hotel. That bar was originally where the bakery and restaurant are now. However, McCleod’s has been here for over 30 years now. The wood working inside was beautiful, along with the stained glass and old style wicker fan paddles. The vibe was all mostly older and composed people. Some people you could tell were regulars while others were hotel guests. We took our drinks and hung out inside for a bit. Since there is no patio, if you want to drink you have to go out to the valet area. They do close at 12pm though so don’t think you can hang out here til all hours of the night.
