The Pearl really is a jewel in San Antonio! There’s so much to do here! There’s all kinds of great restaurants, shops, and coming soon– a hotel! This place used to be an abandoned industrial complex which was the oldest brewery in Texas. I feel my heart swell with pride when I drink a Pearl in a can and smile upon the picture of the brewery on the front of the can. Pearl isn’t a bad beer if you like the light American Lager style. The place has been lovingly restored to its former glory with lots of cool places to hang out, beautiful landscaping, and plenty of great places to get a bite or a drink. This place also houses one of the largest solar power arrays in the city. On top of the place, there’s a huge set of solar panels that you can check out at the Dry Goods place. You can see the power draw, and how much power is being generated for the city. Awesome. There’s an amphitheater along the river where you can sometimes catch a free show. In fact, the entire area is designated as a live music venue, so you can legally wander around with an open beer without getting hassled by the Man. There’s public restrooms and a drinking fountain over by the amphitheater. Parking is easy. There’s always of plenty of parking under 281.
