If I could give Petes a 10 star review I would! I love this place. I wish I lived next door to it. They have the best breakfast tacos and tortillas are always fresh. They have delicious soups. The guac is bland but always fresh. It’s a good little hidden secret in the area. I love that I work near by. I recommend!

This place is awesome! Very nice host at the door, and great servers. The queso is really good, especially when you get a side of sliced jalapeños! I ordered breakfast tacos and they were stuffed and delicious. Everything was hot and fresh! And the horchata was delicious!

We decided to try something different than the normal Riverwalk fare on this trip and we were amazed with Pete’s Tako House. The food was fantastic and fresh. The service was very fast. In fact, we came back the next morning for breakfast. We had the street takos and an sampler appetizer. My favorite of the entire meal was the flan. We will definitely visit again!!!

With a limited amount of time to spend in San Antonio and faced with a bevy of underwhelming options in the downtown area, Pete’s Tako House turned out to be one of the safer options for Tex-Mex adjacent to the Riverwalk. And it was just the kind of carb-heavy pile of comfort food that caused me to leave this city 20 pounds heavy: great table salsa; bright citrusy green chicken enchiladas covered in enough cheese to coat the entire bottom of the plate, the rice, and the beans occupying the rest of my plate’s remaining real estate; a bitter green salsa that added another layer of complexity to everything I could apply it to. Because it’s been so long since I’ve been able to find proper guisado, I ordered a taco of it alongside the rest of my meal. Due to the messiness of the gravy it’s a lot to handle in taco form, but the tender and succulent chunks of pork contained within hit all the right spots. I’ve missed this.

Amazing food and service! My wife and I stopped by after walking around the Riverwalk Saturday night. Everything there seemed way too hectic for tourists like us. We checked out Unilocal, and Pete’s showed up; we’re glad Unilocal steered us in the right direction! The service was excellent, the crowds minimal, and the tacos were stupendous! I made the mistake of not ordering any cilantro or onions to go with my tacos, but they were tasty on their own.

We are visiting from Arlington and happened to find this place through Unilocal.Absolutely, hands-down the best breakfast tacos I have ever had. The tortillas are to die for. So worth it. Just get here early on a Sunday. The line is out of the door!

Man, I love some tacos and these were fantastic! My friend and I both got the street tacos and they were outstanding. Chips were extra delicious, I suspect they make them in house. Margaritas were cold, yummy, and strong. And the service was amazing as well! Such friendly, attentive service despite the lunch rush. I will definitely return next time I’m in San Antonio!

My long awaited visit to Pete’s tako house arrived! I was really excited and even the wait did not bother me because it kept me in suspense like a good book! The hostess told us it wouldn’t be longer than 15mins and it wasn’t! The place was packed but clean. There were so many kinds of people coming in and out of the place it was awesome. Our waitress«Ceci» quickly took our order and went behind the bar for a while which I thought was getting my husband’s Michelada and then disappeared to the kitchen. She came out to the side to check on her food orders and went back to the bar. When she came from the bar empty handed I thought maybe they were backed up at the bar that didn’t look busy at all. She told us our orders were almost ready. Thought she was gonna bring the best Michelada in the world…15−20mins later, disappointed, sadly we never saw the Michelada. She had forgotten it and offered to bring it while we were eating but it was too late! My two tacos were everything I imagined to be delicious and the egg and homemade tortilla was delicious and soft but the salsa was another disappointment… bland, watered down I had to put 5 times before I tasted anything! The potato egg and cheese arrived cold and the carne güisada taco was nothing but bland gravy! Ugh! Maybe the timing was wrong or it was on off day for our waitress, food and salsa. As a first impression sad to say not great. Hoping coming back another day will be better… if there is another day… meh!

Went on a weekday at lunch time and we were seated within 10 minutes. The chips and salsa were very good! Our chips were still warm! I tried the Kookies plate– the cheese enchilada was great but the ground beef puffy(or whatever it was called) was not my cup of tea– it fell apart before I could pick it up and lacked flavor. The fresh tortillas that were served with our lunch were THEBEST part of the restaurant! So fresh and still warm, these thick, flour tortillas are what differentiated between ¾ stars. Next time, I know to order something on those tortillas! The other slight issue was resolved before we left– the simple lunch took VERY long. I’m okay with this for two reasons– it was lunch rush hour and that tells me they truly COOK the food fresh. However, my anxious looks towards the kitchen every time the door opened were noticed by our waiter and he took our beverages off the check and apologized that we waited! Totally unnecessary but he really went above and beyond and we appreciated that!

Great port in a storm. I had cheese enchiladas for breakfast. Yes, there’s no law against it. Good strong raw onion on top. This is the real deal with carne guisada in the gravy. The coffee was hot, strong and hit the spot on this rainy morning. It’s been a long time since I’ve tasted enchiladas this good.

Been here twice and was very pleased both times. The food was great both times including three beans. I use the quality of the beans as the first measurement for any Mexican resturant. These beans are always great and don’t taste like they’ve been stored in a fridge for weeks. The service is wonderful too. Even though this place on the outskirts of downtown the parking is plentiful. They have a massive lot behind the resturant.

If you have any dietary restrictions, this is not the place for you. I wasn’t able to eat there because I’ve been staying away from meat, dairy and refined foods and everything on their menu pretty much includes one of these three. But then it’s Tex Mex so it’s pretty much what I expected. We came here because my husband had a taste for tacos and a margarita. Both were reviewed really well by Unilocal. Alas, the margarita machine was broken(seemed to not be a new thing, by the way) so only beer and(I think) sangria available. The tacos, however, looked delish and my hubby said they were some of the best he’s had(and he eats a lot of tacos). The tortillas are homemade so I asked him to compare them to Casablanca in Venice(CA) who makes his favorite flour tortillas. He said they were tied. That’s a BIG deal for that guy. He got the chicken taco(tons of chicken in it), been and bacon, and the carne gasada. His favorite, oddly enough, was the been and bacon. He said the only thing that would have made it better was to add cheese. The prices are REALLY low for the tacos. Only $ 2-something per taco and for that quality, size and amount of filling, they would have been $ 8 each in L.A. Order 2 to start. Because the pricing is low you might be tempted to get more. But hubby is 6’4″ and 250 lbs. and wished he’d ordered just 2. They’re big, Nd according to him, quite filling.

DELICIOUS!!! I’ve heard a lot about Pete’s from friends and was very excited to try it for a late breakfast. My boyfriend has been several times for lunch and after work, and he says that the steak fajitas are awesome! The restaurant has a casual feel and there was a mix of students, couples and families there on a Saturday morning. We had to wait a couple of minutes to be seated but the service was fast and efficient. As soon as we sat down we were given chips and salsa(a-okay). I ordered a chorizo and potato taco and a barbacoa taco. My boyfriend sampled the menudo and picadillo taco. The tortillas were definitely homemade and perfectly fluffy. The barbacoa was just okay — not worth the $ 3+ price tag, but that chorizo and potato was on point! Not greasy at all and full of flavor. My boyfriend also enjoyed his breakfast. Based on my experience I would like to come here again! Tip: If you can’t find street parking, park in the lot right behind the restaurant!

Thanks to Unilocal,it is easier to ditch the highly-visible chains and discover neighborhood eatieries. Such were the thoughts that brought us here. After a short wait, we were seated and our orders were promptly taken. Due to our visiting on a weekend, there was barbacoa available. I got the barbacoa and eggs, and boy was it good. The barbacoa is extremely rich, almost creamy, which mixes with the eggs well and can be cut by adding the pan-fried potatoes and/or the refried beans. It comes with handmade corn or flour tortillas, both of which are delicious by themselves or with toppings. We also ordered a flight of tacos: a barbacoa, a country and gravy, a carbon, and a guisada. Somehow the guisada ended up flip-flopped for another barbacoa taco. These tacos are incredibly simple, just the filling nestled into a flour tortilla, allowing the meats to shine. All three options were well-made, although the sausage and gravy is a bit of an acquired baste and not necessarily for everyone. My favorite was the barbacoa, but I’ve always been a bit partial to that meat. The only real knocks on this place were the mixed up taco(which was delicious anyway) and the fact that all four of us had empty water glasses for most of our meals, and every time our waiter swung by with something, he was gone before we could ask for refills. This little eatery provided us with a nice atmosphere and great food, and I would definitely consider returning if I am in the area again.

We came here for breakfast when visiting and it was awesome! It’s a short walk or drive from downtown, and the food is totally awesome. You can tell right away that it’s a local’s haven, and 99% of the people in there are regulars, who the staff knows personally. The menu has tons of different options, I wish we could have tried it all. The breakfast plates were big, with tasty food, for a decent price. What’s not to like?! Also, bonus points, they have a squirt bottle of green hot sauce!

Found this place after seeing a post for review of the day… the more I read up on it the more I said I need to go there. As we drive up we headed over to the nice big parking lot in the back(no need to pay for parking just to eat). As we walked in the atmosphere of the place just took a hold of us, waiting to be seated was a feeling of anticipation,(I could just feel the excitement that one gets in there gut) that positive feeling that I was in for something grand… They sat us down we ordered and once our food arrived the first thing I had to taste was the fideo loco and I was hooked. I must say we found us a place that for some reason went under my radar and I wouldn’t have discovered if not for the wonderful reviewers of Unilocal(they do proudly display a Unilocal sticker in the front door). I can honestly say that every time we come up to San Antonio this will be the first place we visit. We tried the poco de todo plate and menudo and tacos I mean it was all so so good. Now this was a first for me the owner Pete was actually greeting people and sitting them down, he was taking orders and he even brought over my bowl of menudo and joked a bit with me while giving me that slap on my shoulder. I wonder what he exactly thinks when his eyes see what his vision created and turned into… Like they say certain places work for different people well this place works for me. Once you get done this place just happens to sit next to the San Antonio Lock and Dam on the river so we walked over and were lucky enough to witness a riverboat float into one of the locks and get lowered to the lower lever of the river just like a mini Panama Canal… what an experience a must to add to your bucket list.

If you live in San Antonio, this place probably isn’t 5 stars. But as someone who lives in Austin(and can’t seem to get a homemade tortilla to save my life), I loved it. There is plenty of parking and it’s very easy to get to from the downtown area. We stopped here for breakfast after staying a night at The Menger. We had a very attentive server and I really enjoyed my bacon and eggs plate. It came with two homemade tortillas and two kinds of salsa. The only problem here is that it’s so far away from where I live.
