Stumbled upon this place looking for a quick bite to eat while I was in the neighborhood and… WOW!!! Absolutely delicious! The carne guisada melt with fried Brussels sprouts left me wanting more. Friendly staff, great food!

What an awesome hole in the wall sandwich shop! At first look you don’t have high expectations. Come to find out from chatting with the owner/chef he’s professionally trained and indeed creates some amazing dishes and some of the best hot sandwiches around!

The venue is in a humble industrial setting. We arrived at an off hour and the chef was out front asking how we heard about his place. «Yelp» we said. He wasn’t surprised — he must get loads of visitors from there. Having just left the San Antonio Missions, this was near enough and stood out by having 20 five star reviews. Will I break the string? At the hour we three arrived one other couple was there finishing lunch. Having lived in Philadelphia once I’m an incurable sucker for a «Philly Cheesesteak». Most are disappointingly cruel imposters. What about this one? We shall see — it, along with a grilled chicken variant — is the special of the day. Between the various cheesesteaks ordered by our party we will soon know if cheesesteaks made by an admitted non-Philadelphian can live up to our imaginations and memories. Chef Rick produced a great cheesesteak with excellent bread, moist and tender meats(both kinds) with the cheese properly melted into the meat not onto the bread! Unlike some«Philly’s» this didn’t need mayo or cheese whiz to be moist enough. This was definitely a gourmet sandwich… Now on to the cheesecake with 3-berry sauce(Raspberry, Blueberry, and Cranberry)… Sounds like a great November mixture since Thanksgiving is next week! It too was good — better than expected in this part of South Texas. Chef Rick is good to talk to customers so I don’t have the heart to break his string of 5 star reviews… And I’m not sure why I would here! Visit!

I can’t stop coming by to see what Chef Rick has created for the day! I would say the BLT is my favorite and the corn is to die for! I love the Fresh Philly Cheese steak sandwich as well. Today I had a ham and cheese panini and tomato basil soup. R&R Café won’t disappoint.

Thank you, Rick. Stopped on our way thru town based on Unilocal reviews. The best grilled cheese and tomato basil.
