Rita’s Enchiladas

We have been trying to get in here for what seems like years now just to try it out… It seems to be always closed aka only opened day/​lunch so it was a bit of a challenge for us. Well we finally caught them on an open night (Fri & Sat till 9pm) and we’ll be back because we like ‘something different’. It’s not Tex-​Mex, more like Mid Mex, not sure what state.
Rita’s Enchiladas is a small place with less than ten tables located next to the Texan motel on Austin Hwy, fairly close to Perrin-​Beital /​Walzem.
No chips and hot sauce at the table but on the menu for apps I saw that you can order the trio of pico, guac, and queso with chips.
Both the red and green sauces were really tasty…
but boy does that red one have a nice kick, oh yeah!
My partner in crime had the green chicken enchiladas and I had «The Mix» which was my choice of two enchiladas, two flautas, taco and potatoes. yes, potatoes instead of rice as in «something different». I chose one green and one red chili enchilada. I could have used more enchilada sauce on both for more flavor but I had the hot dual hot sauces plus the avocado sauce that came w/​the flautas which was just fine. The taco said crispy but it’s more like fried soft with the interesting mix of mashed beef and potato filling. Again «something different».
Dear waiter, if I’m still eating and my glass is empty… please just refill my drink, no need to ask. Thank You. He was attentive tho and I appreciate that.
Austin Hwy has like a hundred different choices of Mexican food joints along a road that is maybe three miles long… most of which are not worth your time or money… I walked out of Rita’s Enchiladas happy and satisfied to have found a little gem serving «something different» from the rest. Thank you.

Horrible service waited 39 minutes for bean and cheese and ask for sausage and egg got wieners and eggonly 3 tables and no food ON them store bought tortilla s dont know what was the problem but im just gonn go get my money back worst experience ever

Wasn’t really my thing… It may have have been «Monterrey authentic,» but I just didn’t taste good. Is there a shortage of salt in Monterrey, because there sure was at Rita’s…Everything I had (the mixed plate) was devoid of it!

What an amazing Birthday dinner. We had the place to ourselves. The food was amazing! The staff couldn’t be more polite, courteous, informative and wonderful. Super food, already want to go back. Thinking of bringing friends soon. WOW!!! Fantastic.

Really good enchiladas and loved the potatoes they served on the side! Large serving — my husband and I shared and it was plenty. Very friendly couple running the place– we wanted to try the place for a while but it seemed they were always closed when we went by. Call to check first.

Great hole-​in-​the-​wall place with really good authentic Mexican food. A must stop and try place!
