The worst experience ever. Waited two hours for a new drivers license. They were calling one type of number back to back. There were 10 lanes and 3 workers. Terrible terrible terrible never go here.

Ok maybe 3^rd time is a charm, but not going back to this office for a third time. Love to turn people away to obtain more unnecessary information. WTH? I need proof of insurance and my paper work for the purchase of my new car to get a TX DL? I don’t carry that pick stack of paper work in my back pocket. I should have said I don’t have a car, now what?! The wait (Tues @ 4) wasn’t to bad. I was #357 and they were on #354, but still sucked because I left again with no DL and my hair looked good. Thanks TX Gov!

We showed up at 9 am. Wasn’t very busy. In fact they were on #303 n we were #304. We thought we had all the necessary documents but of course that would be too easy. Though, I was so amazed that the employees were so friendly and patient. The lady helping us guided us through the whole process. I was so stunned because every DMV I’ve ever went to I’ve prepared myself to stand in line at least an hour. Hopefully the next time I have to come back I have the same wonderful n painless experience.

I showed up about 20 minutes before closing time. All the staff were very polite and courteous. The guard that checked me in made sure I had all the necessary documents with me to get my Texas ID. My wait was between 5 to 10 minutes. The clerk who processed me (I believe his name was Ruben or Rudy) was so polite and friendly. I couldn’t have asked for better service. The new DPS mega center on. Huebner leaves a lot to be desired. I prefer this location.

Be sure to check the website carefully and take al the documents you need. And plan to pay $ 25 by cash or credit card or local check. It’s confusing but they will walk you through it.

I might be giving this place more credit than it deserves, but when I used to live back in Dallas, the DPS was THE worst place in the world. The people were awful, the place was run-​down, and babies were crying everywhere.
So this DPS is like a dream come true for me. The wait was about 30 minutes or so, and the staff was very friendly and personable. Even though my situation was a little difficult because I didn’t have all my necessary documents, the woman worked patiently with me to get everything done.
Another plus is that it’s so close by to where I live!

Really what cam you say about the DMV? Check what documents you need before you go, use their online resources and check-​in if you can, and for god sakes bring some reading material to keep yourself occupied! Ps, if you see someone quietly reading on their Kindle… don’t try to have an hour long conversation with them — let them read in peace!

I have to say, «Wow»! Friendly staff, efficient system, and the representative was so friendly and personable. They should use this staff and location to retrain the others at the old sites. Very good and clean location. Modern technology. Great site! Good work Texas!

This location is super fast and efficient. I’ve never had to wait for an excessive amount of time. Of course now that I’ve shared this info it’s likely to get busier ;)

Went to the DMV this past Friday (21 Dec) a little after 12 noon. First time I had been at this DMV. I walked up to the front door and found it locked. I looked at the posted operating hours and it said the DMV was open from 8 – 5 on Friday. Hanging pretty much in the middle of the glass door was a large, full color sign that said the DMV would be closed 24 – 26 December. Nothing that said anything about the DMV being closed at that moment. I looked in through the glass door and saw all the lights were on and a few people sitting in the waiting area.
So, I walked down to the exit door (and caught it as someone walked out) I was met at the door by a DPS officer who, in almost a mocking voice said, «May I help you?» I asked him if the office was closed and he said it was. I told him that the sign on the front door said they would be closed the next week. He pointed to a sign on the inside of the exit door he was holding open that said that the office would be closing at 12 noon on the 21^st. I told him I didn’t see that sign on the front door. His face scrunched up and he told me in a now near-​angry tone that this same sign was posted on the front door. I told him that I hadn’t seen it. In an sterner voice, he told me «Sir, this same sign is on the front door.»
I walked back to the front door and again didn’t see any sign that said anything about closing early on Friday. And I said so out loud to him. However, just as I made that statement, I happened to look down and to the right of the front glass door and I saw the sign — a black and white, 8×11 photocopied number — at a little above knee level.
I looked back at the DPS officer and said, «oops, now I see it.» I told him the sign should have been larger and hung up at a higher level. In addition, it should have taken predominance over the huge sign that announced the next week’s closure. He just glared at me. I asked him why he was coping an attitude at me (I had been not been angry or condescending during this entire conversation — just puzzled as to why there wasn’t a sign up about the early closure.) He then kind of stammered and started back tracking, telling me he wasn’t doing that. I just smiled, wished him a Merry Christmas, and turned and walked away.
So, the DMV staff there gets 3 and one half week days off for Christmas. And who is it that says it’s not good to work for the Govt?

I got lucky.
The line was only 5 people deep. I was renewing my license. I filled out some paperwork and luckily was seen within an hour. Happiness all over.
HOWEVER, the lady who took my picture failed to mention I had my purse on, said my picture was perfect, then low and behold, I look as if I had just been arrested. Not cute.

I used to think every DPS were terrible places. This place actually turned out to be pretty good. I needed to take my driver license test but all the tests in Houston weren’t available til mid June. I knew I was going to visit my girlfriend and saw that the DPS in San Antonio had a test at the end of April so I set up my appointment. I always dread the waits at the DPS office but the wait here was not bad and I got through the line very quickly. Everything was processed smoothly and the employees weren’t complete pricks here and were actually friendly. I even got to take my test 25 minutes earlier then the set appointment. I wouldn’t mind coming back to this location for further DPS needs but unfortunately I don’t live in San Antonio.

After a ‘derp’ day at the Babcock location, leaving there with NO ID after waiting 2.25 hours in the heat, the Universal City location was a slice of heaven. Yes, we ended up waiting in line for over an hour, BUT we were quickly inside (in air conditioning). The staff at this location was very nice and super helpful. The total experience took 1.5 hours. The excellent staff made it a pleasant experience. It’s UC for us the next time we need to go do our time in line.

Texas DPS was horrible when it came to customer service. My dad — being elderly and disabled — needed to get a state issued ID card in place of his driver’s license. I called the main DPS on Pat Booker and asked which documents my dad needed since he had already surrended his driver’s license a few months back. I told him he still had his govt ID card and reiterated that the main Texas DPS website even stated they would accept it as a primary document. All I was trying to do at that moment was verify the information because I didn’t want to waste time going back and forth if something had changed. Now THAT gentleman in particular was really helpful and said, «Yes. It’s a govt ID, it’s accepted as a primary document and that’s all we need.»
SO… took my dad to the Babcock location. My dad and I waited for at least 2 hours before we were seen and when we were finally seen, the RUDE lady that (was supposed to) help us, told us «NO. We do NOT accept that as a primary document!» I told her I talked with someone at the main office PLUS looked at it online and she shook her head and said, «No! Absolutely not!» And proceeded to grab a piece of paper which contained all the documents they would accept. Uh… this paper even stated the same EXACT thing as the website! HELLO??? I even pointed it out to her and she said, «Oh. Well, that’s wrong!» «Really???» I told her I refuse to have to bring my dad back and forth for unnecessary trips if I had not only a verbal confirmation but the website AND the piece of paper she tried to shove in my face stated exactly what I’d been trying to tell this woman for at least 30 minutes!
She grabbed even more attitude and started typing on the computer and as she did, she asked, «Does he have a driver’s license?» I snapped back, «Does it LOOK like he drives? He surrendered it because of his condition.» «Well I can’t find it on here!» «I’m not leaving until you do because I know for a FACT he had one since he received confirmation in the mail after he surrendered it!»
This woman had to grab somebody else to help her on the computer and when she did, they pointed it out to her and told her, «That’s him right there.» She continued — quietly now — and said she could get him his ID.
Things like this makes me wish I had submitted a congressional in when this incident happened. That was just one of the poorest services I’ve ever received from the DMV.

I returned 2 days later and my rating stands. Advice for you — get there at 730 (it opens at 8). I was the first one there. After a 30 minute wait for it to open, I was the first in and was out within 20 min.
