Had quesadilla with rice… delicious! Service was quick but not rushed! Love this place! Portions are good… sometimes enough for leftovers!

This was the first place where I ever had coctel de camaron years and years and years ago and even though I don’t make it to San Bruno too often, Mar Y Mar holds a special place in my heart! They also make this drink, it MIGHT be their version of a Michelada, I’m not sure, but it is beer mixed with the shrimp stock that they use for the coctels! They literally pour a cold beer with the warm stock, it’s so strange but it totally works! Not for the faint of heart though, but if you love Micheladas like I do, try this out. They also make fantastic fresh squeeze orange juice… a cure-all for sure! This spot is packed on Sundays after church time with all of the locals who know what’s up.

Mar Y Mar is a sit-down restaurant but you pay up front, like at a phở restaurant. The food has a cheaper taqueria-like side to the menu with tacos and burritos(under $ 10), but then a more expensive side with plates ranging from $ 11 – 16. The fish taco was chopped up, grilled red snapper. It needed more flavor so I just doused it with hot sauce. The shrimp tostada which was just the tostada topped with the house salsa, shrimp and avocado. You can get may on it but I opted out. The tostada got soggy fast from the salsa and the shrimp had a nice texture to it but the overall item was a bit bland. The best thing here are the chips and salsa. Chips are made with corn and the salsa has sufficient heat.

I downgraded from 5 star to 1 star because they started making the salsa SUPERHOT so that people won’t ask for the seconds. I can eat super spicy food and even for me it was very very hot. Oh come on. People come to your place for the good salsa you guys make and you treat us like this? I also asked a Hispanic customer if he felt like the salsa was hot and he said the same thing. Even for him being Hispanic, he couldn’t handle the salsa. Food is also not cooked consistently when you visit 2 or 3 times. I don’t know if the chef changed or what but I hope they start cooking consistent again cause this is always my go to place for lunch and some occasional dinner when I am in San Bruno for the last 3 years. I will update my review back to 5 stars if I hear back from the business owner about the change in Salsa spiciness.

This is my go-to spot whenever I’m in the Peninsula and have a craving for mariscos. I love the coctel de camaron. The ceviches are also pretty good but I tend to stick with the coctel. They usually have Banda playing in the evenings

Food was okay. Service was terrible! Server never came back to check on us after she dropped off the food. Asked another server for the bill and never got it. And when we went to the counter our server was texting. I’ll never go back again.

Mariachi on Friday Nites after 730 boosts them to a 4. Sounds weird, but stay away from the traditional items, enchiladas and burritos. Their known for their ceviche, but was a bit salty for me. I had an octopus tostada and was fresh and cooked perfect. Wasn’t rubbery. Also had shrimp in their garlic butter sauce. My only complaint is not enough shrimp. Got 7 shrimp for my $ 15 plate.

Came here right before closing. Waitress let us know to look at the menu quickly because kitchen was closing in 5 minutes(sorry chefs!). Food came out very fast and was delicious. Friend and I ordered drinks and they were VERYSTRONG!!! I let the waitress order me her favourite drink– awesome choice. Strawberry margarita. My friend ordered the shrimp, chicken, and steak fajita and I ordered the shrimp burrito. Everything was great! My only cons were that it closes relatively early and I wish it was a tiny bit fancier. With fancier atmosphere they could do better business and charge a big mode. But besides that– keep doing what you’re doing!

Odd atmosphere – kind of large and open and a place for lots of people but it felt like I’d been set up in a gym with a window on the restaurant side. The other side was more of a bar atmosphere where you entered from the street. Going here when the sun goes down will bake most of the patrons near the windows unless the blinds are down. Ordered a beer and a «sangria». I guess we should have been clearer on exactly what is a definition of a Sangria. What came out was a sangria-like wanna-be soda with no wine or other natural flavors in it. It was the worst attempted, distant, approximation for a kind of sangria I’ve never tasted,(and would not again, if given a second chance). Their fried red snapper dishes are essentially the same base: a deep fried whole snapper that has been scored on the sides and deep fried a deep crunchy brown. Then the many sauces they have are the styles that you will get. Me, I had the Red Snapper, Veracruz Style, which is the snapper I described plus covered with peppers and onions and other freshly sauteed veggies. It was actually pretty decent, and close to the style of snapper I had in Puerto Vallarta. There are other choices that I saw come out – the most interesting looked to be the humongous shrimp cocktails that looked like meals in and of themselves. I will probably return to try the other choices.

The tostadas de ceviche are really good. But not worth the wait at all. Instead I went To San Bruno taqueria… delicious food there too…

Ordered burritos. Carnitas and carne asada. The carnitas was overly salty. The carne asada wasn’t seasoned enough. The burritos was very soggy. Do not recommend the burritos. Being from the city, the burritos in the city are way better.

Havent being here in years, and i trully dont know why. My craving for shrimp soup today was absolutely fullfil and it was just as i remembered last time i was here. Delicious fresh big shrimp, perfectly done. Not chewy and overcooked. The seasoning of the soup is just perfect. Perfectly spicy, nothing that would make you cry or die from boredom. I made the mistake to munch on the chips instead of waiting for the freshly made tortillas. I havent care for the rest of the menu, my husband likes the seafood cocktails. I can say that this sopa de camaron taste close the the one that mom makes. Worth the 40 min drive.

Awesome seafood, service is great for being so busy. Live music makes it worthwhile. Prices are so affordable and portions are not stingy. Idk why some ppl here rate this place bad, maybe they are just unhappy in general. My new favorite seafood place :)

We went here today with a friend. We came just after the lunchtime rush and the service was very slow and unattentive. This seemed very odd because the place only had a few patrons, and halfway though our lunch, we were the only ones seated. Also, the menus they brought were very dirty and sticky. Poor service and nasty menus are a big no no for me… As for the food, it was decent average mexican food. It appears they are famous for the ceviche and everything else we ordered was taco truck quality. I might go back if a taco truck is not visible… but probably not.

My husband, daughter and I got off the plane at SF airport after a really long flight from the east coast. We were beyond starving and very crabby. I checked the Unilocal app on my phone and picked the closest restaurant that had good reviews. After finding our way we sat down at the bar and proceeded to fill our bellies. They brought us a basket of chips and salsa while we perused the menu. We were the only people in the place who weren’t speaking Spanish so I knew we were in the right place. I don’t remember everything we got but I had tacos al pastor and my husband had some kind of fish thing(tired, long flight, up since 4) but I know my lunch was great. The bartender gave my husband the shrimp ceviche to try and he was in love. If I ever find myself back in San Bruno, Mar y Mar will definitely be a stop.

3.5 is about right for this Mexican Seafood restaurant. One of my main foodie in crimes ended up getting super busy during lunch so I ended up coming here by myself to to fix my Mexican shrimp cocktail craving aka coctel de camarones. It’s $ 11 and you could even add octopus at no charge. It comes out fast since the shrimp, tomato, onion, avocado, and cilantro mixture comes premixed out the fridge. Even though I would have liked more fresh avocado, it was still pretty good, not too watery.( ) The loud Mexican music, the Latin guys selling bootlegged cd’s at the bar, and being the only non-Latino inside only add to the experience. Even though they say it’s a taqueria, I’ll stick to the mariscos and try their Marlin tostada next! Menu —( ) ( )
