Great for Sunday brunch! Make reservations. Great selection of food and wonderful quality and pleasant staff

I want to love this place SO bad but after my experience over the weekend I’m going to give it a whopping«average». So we had a reservation for Fathers Day and shoulda known that the rest of San Diego would too. It was PACKED. There were probably about 30 – 40 people just standing outside in the hot sun waiting to be called in. We eventually were called in 20 – 30 minutes AFTER our reservation time. Not cool. Also, one of the hottest days of the year(so far) the air ventilation was not working so great so, as you can imagine, the atmosphere inside was pretty uncomfortable. Standing in line for an omelette or pasta to be made will have you sweating, no joke. Food. Eh. It was as average as any other buffet would be. Nothing special although the omelette I had was pretty darn good even if it did fall completely apart and was a bit watery. The cheesecake was delicious too! Service. Our waiter was excellent. Always quick with drinks and had a great attitude all around. I just don’t understand why they would pack so many tables in a «non buffet» style restaurant. Too much to be comfortable and it was hard to get the food you wanted when you had people behind you being pushy.

We had reservations for Father’s Day brunch and waited 45 minutes for our table. There were at least 75 people(with reservations!) waiting outside the restaurant. When I complained about the wait and said we had a reservation, the hostess said«everyone has a reservation»(like that’s supposed to make it better). It’s clear they overbooked. Perhaps a regular Sunday brunch is ok, but I’d avoid this place for special occasions Sundays(Mother’s Day, Easter, Father’s Day. Etc).

On a 95 °F hot and sunny Fathers Day, the last thing you want is to wait 45 minutes for a table, but thanks to the management at 94th Aero Squadron greedily overbooking today’s brunch, dozens of customers suffered. With a confirmed 12 noon reservation we expected a reasonable wait, after all it’s one of the busiest days of the year. However it was clear from the crowd waiting outside that the restaurant simply took too many bookings. Management seemed unconcerned about having people wait in the stifling heat and were clearly taking complaints from many diners. Finally at 12.45pm we were led to our table. The selection of food was excellent although much of it was luke warm. Upon our return to our table, our request for silverware was met with the news that they were trying to find forks! Eventually cutlery arrived although food was now cold. Very poor experience.

The worse experience ever! A special day for my husband and my family supposedly. We checked in 15 minutes early just in case. The waiter called our name but seated our table to someone he knew. When I asked him if he called our name, he said he was calling someone else. But how did our ticket end up in the box was seated. We are probably still waiting if we didn’t ask. Manager gave $ 20 gift card for next time and have the waiter came to our table before we left. Instead appolizied to us, he was arguing with us that it was misunderstanding. You got my first name and last name wrong on the reservation and gave our table to your buddy. We don’t want your $ 20 gift card. I will make sure all my friends know so they don’t have to experience what we experienced today. A SPECIALDAY!

Not rating this place for the buffet, I’m rating this place for the ambience. This place has such a sweet ambiance. The old airplanes and being aside the runway is awesome. The seating and memorabilia is incredible! We didn’t eat so I won’t speak to that but it’s so worth the stop to enjoy a place in time… In the past Love this place

From the ambience to the food to our awesome, AWESOME server Nina, my friend and I were there from 9:30 till the end of brunch and enjoyed every minute of it. Nina kept sure to refill our glasses with free-flowing champagne, was an excellent conversationalist, and even went out of her way with our special requests. Definitely recommend for brunch! Tip: if you’re seated before 10am, you’re in for their early bird special pricing of $ 24.95AND you can even ask them to steam the crab legs if you prefer them to ice cold ones!!! Yumm! :)

I really enjoyed my mid week dinner here. I made reservations at 7pm, I arrived a few mins early and was seated right away. The exterior of the building was really cool. There is some type of club/lounge off to the left immediately after the entrance. There are also people in the bathrooms waiting for tips for helping you wash your hands? There are lots of different lotions and soaps with that service. We were seated next to the window with a view of the nice backyard with tables and a gazebo where people can reserve for private parties. The service was great. The food came in generous portions. The crabcakes appetizer was yummy, great for sharing between two people. The collage of seafood came with too much linguine noodles, which were pretty bland, but ok since all the different seafood items made up for it. The meal also came with creamed corn! woo my fave, but I felt it tasted like there was too much pepper in it, I still ate it all though :) The flax seeded bread and butter comes out with the soup(I chose clam chowder). The waiter will bring out a tray of desserts to choose from. We went with the crème brûlée, yummy.

Food wasn’t terrible. The prime rib dinner was a decent deal although the steak was lacking salt and the vegetables were over cooked. The Ceasar salad was fine and while the cheese cake was good, it was from a box. The part that bothered me the most was the fact that it took over two hours for our dinner service to finally complete. We were not in a terrible hurry but waiting 15 – 20 minutes between each course while your last course is a boxed desaert, that is terrible. Also took over half an hour to get our check. Why? Would not come back again simply due to the incredibly slow service.

Tried this place out for Sunday brunch. Good buffet spread of breakfast items and lunch items. All the basics like eggs, waffles, sausage, bacon, potatoes for breakfast were there. Lunch items included roast beef, ham, fish, vegetables were also available. Service was prompt with the one minus being drinks not being refilled. The tab for this though is a bit steep. About $ 30 a person. That’s Vegas money for a non Vegas buffet spread. Some of the food lacked seasoning particularly the roast beef and fish. They have a neat airplane museum type display in the back side of this restaurant and a lot of war memorabilia. Neat concept. Overall, I would say a place like Tom Ham’s Lighthouse is better for a brunch option. I just don’t think the food quality matches the price for brunch.

Have been here now twice, once for brunch and once for dinner, both times were awesome! The service is outstanding, we have Silvia for our brunch server and she was great! Super attentive and quick to notice that we were not your champagne sippers ;) hahaha! For dinner we had a server named Josh. He was excellent, very personable and really took great care of us. Our experiences here have made us recommend it to so many friends and family, and we can’t wait to bring them here when they visit SD! I’m hoping at some point we can see some planes taking off, if that’s even an option I’m not sure as to times the airport is active. The fact you can eat outside or inside and still feel the ambiance of the restaurant is awesome! :) can’t wait to go back!

First time here and our wait was about 45 minutes for the Sunday buffet brunch… Totally worth it for my first time experience. You wouldn’t expect this place to be here as you drive down trying to find the place. The place is absolutely cute! It makes sense being next to the aircraft area in Clairemont. Our server Xavier was the best! He was great and always made sure we had our glass filled with champagne! Bottomless mimosas when you ask for orange/cranberry juice. The food was overwhelming I honestly didn’t know where to start but I figured it out some how! I loved the food… Pastries, entrees, brunch items, everything! The place gets ridiculously busy. There are 3 stations where they make your food in front of you! Crêpe station, waffle station, and pasta station! Keep in mind there’s a difference in time with the prices! The hours between 9 – 10 is cheaper than 11−3(I think that’s when the brunch time ends maybe 2 — not sure!) I’ll be back next time making reservations!

This was a close call. The food was 3 stars but the overall experience was 3.5 and I almost always round up to reward effort. Now, the décor is charming. The World War I memorabilia/motif out front, inside and in the back is extremely cool. The music is definitely from the World War Ii era but that, too, is charming. The service was extremely homey and friendly and no less than four different employees, including the manager, checked in on us. Good job, guys. But – pet peeve alert – when I order a bottle of wine, with the usual ridiculous markup, I expect the server to pour the bottle for me. Those are the rules, folks. But overall, the service was very attentive. The food was generally good. We sampled the onion straws(good but lukewarm), beer cheese soup(good), French onion soup(yummy), complimentary bread loaf(bland), and the sirloin steak(ordered medium but cooked to a an unforgivable and completely tasteless very well done). For dessert, we shared a giant slice of mud pie. It may not have been the best one I’ve ever had but it was very good and well worth a try. Side note: What a strange mix of customers you will find here. We saw first daters, bargain hunters, old timers, bros wearing baseball hats(turned backwards, of course) and just plain folks. It still surprises me how poorly people dress for a night out and you’ll see many sloppily dressed folks here. Tsk, tsk. By the way, the restaurant is definitely kid friendly and the kid’s meals come with a ton of good food and are a genuine bargain. Overall, while my poor steak was a total disaster, the experience was definitely fun.

I love the charm of this place. The décor, the history, the fireplaces — perfectly cozy with a homey feel. This was a perfect setting for a rainy weekday evening. Although I would like to return during the day to look around outside; it seems pretty spacious. I had the skirt steak which came with soup or salad, a side, and bread. I went with the french onion soup, a newer fave of mine, and it did not disappoint. The skirt steak was served with a chimichurri and I had mashed potatoes on the side. Everything was fantastic and I nearly ate it all! Our server was fantastic. He was friendly, fun, and accommodating to our larger group. The service mixed with all of the other dining components made the whole experience a wonderful one.

I came here for restaurant week with my roomie because their menu sounded delicious. Although they have a gigantic parking lot, it look me 10 minutes to find a spot! Once we got inside, I was impressed with the WWI/WWII themed décor. They had memorabilia everywhere both inside and outside in their patio area. If it wasn’t the middle of winter, I would have loved to sit outside because they had a couple cool model airplanes and an army vehicle decorating the lawn, as well as a pretty gazebo with a fire pit. Our server was really friendly and tried to give us some helpful suggestions on the menu. However, I was not too impressed by the food. Nothing was bad per say, but no items stood out to me and I felt like I could have gone to Black Angus or something and gotten the same meal. I had the bacon wrapped scallops to start which tasted okay, but the portions are tinyyy(you get 2). For my entrée I upgraded to the lobster tail & sirloin. I think the tail was slightly overcooked because it was quite firm and the sirloin was pretty small(4 – 5 oz). I kind of regretted my choice after looking at the huge piece of prime rib my roomie got for less than the price of mine. I finished the meal with a chocolate lava cake and it was so-so. The middle didn’t ooze out like it should and tasted more like an undercooked cake instead with a slightly gritty texture. I noticed on their regular menu that they do early dinner specials for $ 18 for an entrée/sides/dessert so maybe I’ll give it another try.

014⁄100 — 2016 Unilocal100CHALLENGE. Went here for the first time with friends last night! It was pretty empty when we arrived and it wasn’t too crowded throughout the night(we were there for 2 hrs or so). Everything on the menu is pretty affordable, so I decided to get two appetizers: the nachos(with chicken) and the crab cakes. A friend ordered the chicken wings and drinks. The food came out in a timely manner and the crab cakes were surprisingly decent. Didn’t taste like a 5-star restaurant, but it didn’t taste like they had just taken it out of the freezer. Everything was crisp and warm. The nachos were really heavy and delicious, but the chips were a little disappointing. I think because there was so much stuff on top of it, all the chips became really soggy. It was hard to pick up the chips to eat and we probably weren’t able to eat half of it because of it. Service was great and the drinks were good. The ambiance was ok. I can understand what they were going for, but it felt a little too out dated and gimmicky for me lol. Overall a not-so-bad place in a convenient location for my friends and I to meet up and catch up!

My sister and I decided to book a reservation here for restaurant week. They were offering a three course menu for only $ 30, so why not! Neither of us had ever been and when we got there it was packed! We couldn’t even find a parking spot we had to drive around the lot almost three times before we landed a spot in the back. Upon arrival we were a little late for our reservation but they still got us seated right away. It was very busateue to restaurant week and we were greeted about 10 minutes after we sat down. My sister and I both started with the BLT wedge salad and it was fantastic! The presentation of the dish was also very beautiful. For our main courses I got the sirloin cooked medium and it was cooked to perfection. My sister got the braised short ribs and you could cut them like butter, they were very tender and flavorful. For dessert I got the chocolate lava cake which was my least favorite dish of the night. I expected it to be warm hence the word lava but it was very cold… My sister got the chocolate crème brûlée and she said it was very good. The restaurant has a cool ambiance and history to it. Next time I would like to come back and go to their bar /lounge section. Overall a good first experience

First time here. Came for San Diego Restaurant Week. 3 course meal for $ 30. Parking lot was super packed; no parking available, we had to park across the street and walk over. We were a group of 17(adults & kids) and seated reservations at 7:45pm. Although a large group, you would expect more attentiveness, however, that was totally the opposite. Upon seating, it took 30mins just to get water on the table. Waitress said she would come back and take our drink orders down but that took another 30mins. Bread came out after drinks have been placed but that was the worse table bread ever served which had a chalky cardboard taste, the butter helped a little but you needed to spread a lot. After the waitress had taken our orders, it took about another 1 hour just to get our food out to our table. We noticed smaller groups had better service and their food came out fast and correct. The majority of my parties orders came out«lukewarm», some steak orders were cooked incorrectly, some had lobster but no steak. Desserts came out late as well. Overall: Will never ever step foot in here again. Horrible service, overpriced mediocre food. And loud music that you can hear right through the walls because of the club next door.

My first time here; the worse experience during San Diego Restaurant week Jan. 2016 for a large group. Pros –Nice patio –good view Cons –parking(if you’re not their early be prepared to park across the street) –loud club music that you can hear from next door in the dining area –service super slow(they are more attentive to smaller groups of 4 and below) –slow taking orders –had to always flag down for water –nasty cardboard table bread –food came out cold(as if it were sitting to be picked up and brought to our table) Overall: Save your money and mark this off your San Diego Restaurant week list to try. Not worth the hassle of finding parking for mediocre food and slow service.

One of the worst meals I have ever had. We went for restaurant week but it was so disappointing! We had a wedge salad and the bacon wrapped scallops. A salad is a salad but the scallops tasted only of bacon and nothing else. We both had the pistachio crusted seabass with fruit chutney. I couldn’t taste the pistachio at all because the chutney overwhelmed everything. Lastly, the crème brûlée, terrible. First, my spoon went straight through it, there was no brûlée on the top to crack. Then, the flavor was more of egg, like a flan. It was more like cream pudding with a gritty consistency. It was awful! Never never never again.

Restaurant week!!! Alot of places were booked and wife remembered this place. Haven’t been here for almost 10 years or more? But this place is the same as I remember it. So, there were a list of week items on the menu… I go for a glass of pinot grigio and the bacon wrapped scallops for starters. Daaaaammn. Nice and tender. Then my special request for a prime rib on the big side(wink wink). Waiter said I got you. It comes to be the biggest of the 4 that were ordered. HAHAHAHA! Prime rib was 4 out 5. Finishing the night off with the chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream.

5 stars for the ambiance and fun historic restaurant with lots of memorabilia and actual old airplanes on site. Location next to Montgomery Field airport so that you can see airplanes go by. Service was also good too. 3 stars for cleanliness– dishes and glasses were dirty. 1st time here. Has its own parking lot. Came here for Sunday Champagne Brunch. $ 30/person. SUPERCROWDED. had to wait in a 30 person line at one point. Came to celebrate with a large group so it was nice that we got a large room to ourselves. However, the quality of the buffet was mediocre. I can get much better meals elsewhere for less. We did agree that the salmon was good and the dessert bar had a variety of sweets including some good cakes. Some liked the pasta. Otherwise, the crab legs weren’t as fresh as they could be. The meats and salads were ok.

Came here for Restaurant week on a Sunday, got seated right away. I ordered bacon wrapped scallops(came in a pair), Prime rib w/garlic mashed potato(also got crème corn complimentary by the chef), and Crème Brulee with berries for $ 30. Food was decent, service was good, décor was okay, like military décor from the 40s. They have a fire pit in the back and a big plane in the front.

We held our club’s holiday party at the good ‘ol 94th. Frank the owner, April the manager, and all the staff worked hard to make our get-together memorable and a great experience. For a special occasion, a big event, or just a couple drinks during your favorite game, The ‘94th is a great place, Their weekend brunches are great, and the menu diverse. Enjoy listening to the air traffic through the headphones at the table, or go outside on the back patio and just watch the airplanes come and go, and come and go!

Known primarily for its Sunday brunch, our visit last night to 94th Aero Squadron was for my dad’s birthday. It had been a long while since we’d been here, and I was looking forward to trying the entrees(and to Unilocal about it, too). My dad ordered a Prime Rib(Regular Cut — $ 25.99), my brother ordered a Sizzling Prime Top Sirloin($ 24.99), and I went with the Boneless Beef Short Ribs($ 20.99). All three of us liked the main entrees; my brother was the only one that finished off his dish. The Yukon Gold Garlic Mashed Potatoes were spot on, though I felt that the beer cheese soup my dad and I ordered was a bit on the thin side. The side of creamed corn we received was also pretty good. The ambiance inside the dining room was a bit on the dark side; if the weather was a bit cooperative, I would’ve had liked to dine on the patio, seeing how there was a gas-powered fire pit going on. Also, seating could be a bit cramped. As for the service… our main server was pretty polite, though I had this feeling that he didn’t really want to be there. The onsite manager did come to our table, though, and he made sure that we were enjoying our meal and even refilled our glasses of water and iced tea. Still, seeing the classic WWI photos and props(including the airplanes) gave 94th Aero Squadron a certain charm, and I would like to bring my lady for brunch here sometime(especially during the day, when Montgomery Field is in operation). Plus, I’d heard that their Coconut Shrimp is really good, so I may come back again for an Early Bird Dinner Special as well.

I actually would have given this place a 3 star rating, but gave it that extra star simply because our waitress was wonderful(I’m sorry I did not get your name, but you were fantastic to us!) A few friends and I visited our friend down here in SD, who decided we should go for a Sunday brunch before we left SD to go back to LA. He brought us here. The Squadron has a great vibe, and atmosphere. It seems very military-esque with the old aeroplan décor, and the militia sand bags, and old style furniture. The place looks like an old brick house with a big backyard dining area. The main ‘lobby’ has a working fireplace, before you head to your seats. We got seated in front of the buffet with a view of the back yard. Our actual table was a bit small for 6 people, but we accommodated to it. We ordered for the brunch buffet, and the ENDLESSMIMOSAS!!! The brunch is $ 28, and i think the mimosas are ~$ 12. The buffet selection is not the biggest, and some of the items are mediocre. Some of it was pretty good, like the lamb and the teriyaki salmon, the bacon, and crepes. I was a bit disappointed in the eggs benedict, and the seafood options. They did have a lot of desserts which is a plus, and their eclairs were really good. If anything we came mainly for the unlimited mimosas. IT was great! I was unfortunately unable to drink past my first one due to heart burn(which made me unable to actually eat a lot more than I wanted to), but my friends made use of the endless drink. With this, our waitress was always attentive, and made sure we had enough drinks, and orange juice to satisfying everyone on the table. She was patient with us and made sure we were doing well, even though we stayed for nearly two hours, and made her busier.

I have not been to the 94th Aero Squadron in awhile however my hubby and I went there two weeks ago on a Thursday. When we entered the restaurant we were going to leave since there was no one there. However we heard music and headed to the patio. There was a band playing music and folks were out dancing having a good time. We decided to stay and enjoy the music. We ordered drinks and I had a shrimp cocktail and my hubby had sliders. The reason I have not visited the restaurant in awhile is because I have found the food mediocre and this night sealed the deal. The jumbo shrimp cocktail($ 9) was bland nothing special about the the cocktail sauce. The cheeseburger sliders($ 9) were overcooked almost burnt therefore they were dry in addition to two drinks the bill was $ 40. Now if the food was good not a problem however this was surely not the case. I don’t think I will be making a repeat performance.

While in San Diego just yesterday, after attending Janet’s concert the day prior,(we’ll save that review for another day) family members local to the area recommended we do brunch. They mentioned 94th Aero and for some reason that name rang a bell. Go figure, I resorted to Unilocal and it dawned on me that a few friends and I had actually stumbled upon this place a few years ago when I was a resident of Temecula. As it appears, I was inevitably made the«veteran» of the group and what I advised them of prior to our drive out, was to anticipate a mind-blowing amount of options in food afforded at prices that wouldn’t break the bank. _____________________________________________ Located on Balboa, a «ramjet» away from Montgomery Field, sits this WWII’esque themed establishment that has secured its rep– befittingly by providing and array of scrumptious food options for breakfast, brunch/lunch AND dinner. Ya’ know… …they say, «breakfast is the most important meal of the day»… I’m led to rebuttal, if not amend that theory ^ ^ however. With unlimited champagne /mimosas being served from 10am until at/around 3pm —- I’d be a bit bit more inclined to attest to BRUNCH being the MOSTIMPORTANT meal of the day!!! Encompassing pasta stations, omelet stations, a meat carving location(offering ham, turkey and beef) alongside mussels, crab legs(heated upon request),(peel and eat) shrimp, BBQ ribs, poached salmon… and a plethora of other options — — - its virtually impossible NOT to leave this place satisfied!!! I’m a sucker for jazz and the ambiance here, offering streamed jazz throughout the duration of your meal, ensured an undeniably pleasurable experience. In addition and despite reservations typically being the«best» option to guarantee prompt seating, our party of 8 arrived ½ an hour early and were still seated without hesitation. Fortunately the weather prevailed as we were seated on the lanai and despite the food quarters being quite a trek away, I didn’t witness anyone complain. There’s also signage requesting all parties keep their meals to 2 ½ hours in span, simply to allow others the same opportunity. A testament to customer service here being EXCEPTIONAL(special shout out to Cheryl) would be the fact that — – technically…the party ACTUALLY began at the mile mark of 2 ½ hours and there was no added pressure from staff to partition our dismissal!!! #it-went-down-like-4-flat-tires! #faded-and-feelin-X-rated!!! Gratuity, while not included, was well deserved as EVERYONE we came across was STELLAR, even offering to take photos of the family despite my browsing around and/or taking notice that we were the LAST to depart! For $ 29.95, I consider this joint a virtual steal(brunches in LA and OC can cost anywhere from $ 35 – 50.00 dependent upon location) and if anything, this just gave me ONEMORE reason to head back down the 5 freeway. Outstanding job guys! Thx–

Mediocre champagne brunch buffet. That place was super popular, had to wait for about 15, 20 minutes even with a reservation. I had pretty much tried all the meat dishes there. roast beef was kinda bland, it was the quality of the beef. Lamb was a little better. Seafood was okay, the king crab was not bad. Among everything I tried, my favorite was actually the bacon, it was the thick crunchy kind of pig belly, delicious! Champagne was free flowing, unfortunately I was just craving coffee that morning. Coffee was not bad. The brunch was $ 29 per person plus tax and tip. I am all about quality, not quantity, so I probably won’t go back.

This place is always good for Sunday Brunch. It gets a little crowded at times the way they have the food laid out and the amount of people but it’s worth it every now and then. They have lots of choices and places outside for kids to walk around and play. It is right on the airfield so there are some neat views of planes taking off and landing. Overall, I will go back when the need arises. I am not a big buffet fan so it takes a lot for me to go to one on my own. For family functions this is a great choice.

Great place for Sunday brunch! Made reservations for a party of 14 a week before– good thing we did because there were a good amount of people when we got there. First off, the price is a great deal for what you get. I checked prices at other all you can eat brunch places to compare. I’ve been to Tom’s Lighthouse and considered Humphries– but those places were $ 43-$ 46 /person. Karl Strauss in Sorrento Mesa was similarly priced, but did not have crab legs and shrimps. So we went with 94th Aero squadron. Being that we had reservations, we were seated once we got to the hostess stand. The bottomless mimosas were a great start. There is quite a good selection of food. My favorite was the omelet station and Belgian waffles. For desserts, there were a ton of pies, a crêpe station, ice cream, etc. I got the tiramisu and a chocolate éclair. Tiramisu is one of my fave desderts, and sadly I didn’t really like this one. Other than that, the éclair was good. I was way to full to try more desserts. Service was so-so. I do not recall our servers name, but he was taking care of at least 4 other tables that had parties of 6 or more. We had asked for a couple of items and he would come back with half of them. After 5 mins or so it didn’t look like he was coming with the rest, so we had to remind him about the other things. This happened at least 2 or 3 times. Also there is a sign outside the door about parties limited to 2.5 hour to dine. We have some slow eaters at the table and some kids that were playing outside. Once it got close to the 2 hour time, the server took our ½ full pitcher of water away. I’m not sure if that was his way of saying we should leave, but it was borderline questionable. If the service was excellent, this would be 5 stars for me. Other than the server, I did enjoy the food a lot. Someone always came pretty quick to pick up plates. The outside has a duck pond and older displays of planes. Overall, for the price, selection of food, quality, bottomless mimosas– this is a great place for Sunday brunch.
