One of only two(very good) Indian restaurants in the immediate vicinity. What a shame it’s no longer there. At least the other location(Bawarchi Dosa) is still there, off Black Mountain Rd. At least I hope it is… I’m so sad it closed down. They had the best Hyderabadi biryani I’ve had this side of the Atlantic and their fresh item selection was always plentiful and delicious.

Sadly, as predicted, another golden gem gone too soon. Bad location? Under appreciated? Who knows. we had some fun Barwachi, I’ll miss you dearly.

Chicken Biryani is not authentic. They just mix rice and chicken separately. Not worth visiting for the price.

Ermahgerd. Get in my mouth! This place is great. It’s too hot inside, it’s a little divey and not the cleanest ever, the«fast» cafeteria style ordering is not really that«express» and Ganesha help you if you bring a coupon because that will bring everything to a grinding halt… HOWEVER, all that frustration aside, the people are really nice, the food is really great, and they really pile you up with a lot of food for not a lot of money. Go nuts. Give it a go. Just don’t do it if you have a limited amount of time to get grub on your lunch break. They also do catering/bulk really well.

Absolute waste of money. Ordered dosa, chow mien, chilli chicken. Dosa was averge(eatable). Chilli chicken was horrible. There was nothing init but a whole lot schazuan sauce. Total waste of money.

Delicious Dosa and Sambar. Gulab Jamun was pretty good too… like that they have a rewards program. The best Dosa I’ve had in San Diego by far!

I really like their Chicken Tikka Masala here. I always get the 2 chicken combo plate and just order two of those because it’s cheaper than ordering the actual plate meal. I think I’m allergic to some kind of spice in most Indian food so I haven’t been adventurous enough to try the other dishes yet. However, my boyfriend and our friends really love the food here. I just really like their Chicken Tikka Masala!

2 item combo with Chicken Tikka Masala and the other with a vegetable dish to balance it out. The Tikka Masala is pretty good. Good flavor and spices to the curry. Downside is that I literally only got like 2 small pieces of chicken. Forgot what the other dish was, but it was like chili without the meat. The yogurt sauce is good here too. The rice was alright. The naan was good! Made dipping into the curry very delicious.

Namaste! Tikki chicken masala!!! It’s been a while since I have dined at an Indian food restaurant. The staff offered us a number of tasters to make our entrée choices which helped out. Tikki chicken masala was savory. Lots of chicken and flavor in each bite! Lentil soup and numerous types of sauces provided for the plates and naan bread. The mango lassi drink was thick and rich. I was very pleased with our first visit to Bawarchi.

Good indian food buffet. Love the naan with the combo meal. Great bang for the buck and quick service. The daal and tandoori is good!

Team lunch today, so we decided to go somewhere fast and since we all like Indian food, Indian! Bawarchi Express sounded very Express, but just in the name. My colleague called in advance to order the dosas, as 5 of us wanted that. When we arrived to the empty restaurant(it was 12, but I heard that most people come here for late lunch), the guy at the counter said we never called. Hum. Weird. But they have another branch, so it is possible that the call was diverted or something, as I heard my colleague specifying we were going to the Carmelt Mt restaurant not the only on Black Mt. Anyways, he promised fast delivery and we did not have to wait too much. Most of us ordered the Mylore dosa or the Andrash. A couple of our team ordered combos that looked good. My dosa looked fantastic but the sambar was not warm and the chutneys were frozen! This could have been an excellent meal, but the frozen sauces kill the flavor. And about flavor, I was expecting spicy, this pales in comparison with other spicy places. I did not feel any spiciness at all. Another thing they need to improve is the ventilation. My hair stinks. And my hair is expensive to maintain, no need more oils than argan oil, thank you very much. My clothes stink too. Not a nice thing to remember.

**Vegetarian Reviewer ** Every single day, the food in the pre cooked menu remains the same(almost)! The food is very very oily as well. Their naans are good but they don’t make the more healthy version called Rotis(whole wheat bread). The dessert options are A-ok. Dosa from ala carte menu is not bad, but anything you order from the menu takes really long time to served!

Very nice restaurant after log search found this restaurant near the hotel m staying at! Really nice staff very courteous and explained me couple of things I had questions of biryani dons not rush. Very nice taste of food specially chicken tikka masala and the naan was very delicious also. The best thing is that it’s HALAL. very hard to find halal in this kind of place. Definitely recommended to all my freinds if any one visits here. Last but not least the gulab jamun.

I’m still pretty new to the Indian food world and the guy up front spoke way too fast for me to understand anything, not to mention it took them 5 min to notice that I was waiting up front even after I pressed the bell The chicken tikka masala was alright but barely had any chicken and ALOT of sauce The mild vegetable curry was also mostly potatoes and ALOT of sauce I like sauce but I like when food is in the sauce! Pretty pricey for how skimpy they are with the food, especially the naan. One serving of naan to them is half of an entire piece! If I ordered 3, why didn’t you just give me 2 whole ones instead of halves? If you want your moneys worth, I recommend Dehli Kitchen, a couple streets down

I don’t know if it’s because I’ve been craving Indian food this week, or if this place is really delish, but YUM! Amazing tasting sauce, just enough kick for a bit of a wuss like myself, and quick service(except for the samosas we had to wait for but well worth it). Very reasonably priced combos and other than a bit of a burnt naan I received, quite good. Didn’t notice if there is a garlic naan option but I hope so as I’ll be back!

A hair above average for Indian food from my experience. Pretty much the basics. I believe the #2 combo with one veg dish and one meat dish is the way to go. The bread is the best aspect here. The guy makes it fresh in front of you. The food is good, but nothing that will wow you. Hats off for the respectable spice on the pepper marsala. The eggplant curry was a little disappointing. They’ll throw more rice than you’ll want just to make the plate look full. I thought it was a little expensive for Indian fast food.

By far the best tasting Indian food in San Diego. Prior to San Diego I lived in San Francisco for 3 ½ years. The Indian community is much more established and large in the Bay Area. When I moved to San Diego I had to find a place that serves up to the standards of the restaurants in San Francisco. I could say by far Bawarchi Express is one of the best locations I have been to as of yet. The person that manages this restaurant is also the original cook who is from India. Most indian restaurants have non-indians cook the food that’s not the case with Bawarchi. As for service if you ever have an issue ask for Selvam. He is the manager of the location and his service is amazing. There is a little bit of a language barrier though these guys are very very customer oriented. If they’re not understanding try rephrasing your questions and they will give you a service you will be speechless about. Keep in mind that in the Indian culture when food is served they don’t bother their customers or guests they wait around to be called on for any service… Do not expect these folks to run back and forth to your table and ask how is the food… they will wait for you to respond becuase in their culture it isn’t polite to disturb your guests with questions while they’re enjoying a meal. Anyways great place. I would definitely recommend this location. I’ve tried most of their dishes and actually about to go there right now to get some naan and chicken tikka. :)

I like Delhi Kitchen better. I came here because I had a groupon and can I say that the desserts were terrible and the food was okay. I am giving them 2 instead of 3 stars because the portions were small. If you REALLY want good Indian food, go to Punjabi Tandoor off of Miramar Rd.

Solid 3 ½ Stars. Wow this food is spicy! Good thing I love a little heat to my food! Not really sure mainstream PQ will be as accepting. My dad loved it but then again he tends to lean toward VERY spicy. Surprised not many Unilocalers have said how hot it was… and I’m really not a wimp to spice. :-) Tried the Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Curry, Vegetable Curry, Eggplant Curry, a Dosa and the naan! Everything was really good but the spiciness was just too overpowering. Couldn’t really taste anything after the first 2 bites except heat! Not saying to cut it all out but cut back a tad so one can enjoy the other spices in the dish. Seriously, just a TAD! Minus 1 star. Portion size was fine… I had leftovers but again that was only because my stomach and mouth were on fire… perhaps that’s why they offered a Lassi at ½ off! haha The naan was huge! And delicious! Came right out of the cooker! The seating area needs a little sprucing up. Or at the very least some Indian music. It was a little uncomfortable sitting in there in complete silence. Minus ½ star. Good value though and will certainly be back!

When I first found this place, I thought to myself… how apropo! It was STORMING so hard outside that night and since the place is made up of two full glass walls, I got to watch the entire show. So, I got a ‘monsoon’ just for trying this new Indian place. This is like a psuedo Indian ‘Panda Express’ style eatery and the choices are plentiful! Unfortunately, I haven’t seen any panipuri/golgappa or gobi parathas, but that is okay, at least I know where else to go when I need it. There are many Indian families and couples come here. This place has been about 5 different restaurants, a wraps place, a pizza place and few more that I can’t even remember… but I think finally, this restaurant is here to stay. Everyone who works there has been very nice, patient and helpful. However, I think they need a flat screen up that plays bollywood videos. It is kind of boring inside. Not much to do experience but people watch the people waiting for their movies outside. If you live nearby, it’s worth the visit, but it’s not a place I’d necessarily travel to find.
