We happened to hit this restaurant one day when we were driving around Kearny Mesa, looking for something different to eat. Ha, it wasn’t so different, but it was still good. The hot stone pot dishes are good, mostly because I love chewing on the crispy bits of rice when you get to the bottom of the pot. I like the BBQ Short Rib version, but they definitely don’t give you enough meat for the bowl. You get two or three tiny pieces only. Kind of disappointing. Their tofu soup dishes are excellent. They’re hot and bubbly and savory — and if you get it spicy, watch out! It’s a slow burn, and it’ll getcha! When I’m not craving a hotter-than-hot pot of rice or noodles, I go with the Dumplings Rice Cake soup. It’s a huge bowl of broth, dumplings, noodles and other things. The dumplings are very good, and the broth is a perfect complement to the dish. This place is never busy, so the service is quick. You may have trouble finding parking(the lot is typically always busy), but you can usually find street parking if you can’t find anything in the lot. The prices are decent, if you’re looking at some of the smaller dishes, and the menu is fairly varied. Plus, this place gets bonus stars from me for introducing my husband to kimchee!

I went here the other night after finding out that there was a 25 – 30 minute wait for Tofu House and it was terribly cold outside. This place is pretty good, but I feel there are slightly on the slower side of service. I like the brown rice at Tofu House and wish they served it here, but the Tofu stew is still delicious. Piping hot and flavorful. Not overpowering like Min Sok Chon’s. Also, I believe they give you more seafood in the seafood stew than Tofu House’s. If you want to take your date out on a quieter Korean venue, this is the place for you. It’s quaint and if you want to watch a game, there’s a tv. Yay!

This restaurant gets lost between the food giants of this corner on Convoy: Crab hut, Tapex, Tofu House(?), Yogurt World(???) – the last one mentioned being the thorn on my side I would like to smite off the face of the food directory, but I digress. BH Chung is hardly ever full of customers, and I kind of understood why after eating there for dinner: it’s A-OK. With the mixture of a slightly deserted restaurant and«OK» food, I’ll try my dinner options elsewhere from now on. Food: — Sul Lung Tang(Oxtail bone soup)($ 7.99): I’ve only tried this a couple times in the States, and this one definitely missed the mark by football field and one-half. The soup is slightly decent(at best) with the hearty flavors found in Sul Lung Tang, but it’s easily forfeited with the very stiff beef briskets they use. It’s not marinated in the soup, but it seems like they just dumped a few pieces at the end which created a polarizing taste of stiff beef and a smooth soup. Of course, salt was needed(it tastes really bland without any salt additions – which is normal!) but even so, it was a «C+» status at best – I will not try this again here. I could make better by buying my own broth from Zion and cooking my own meal. If you want to try this, you’re better off getting practically anything else. — Yuk Gae Jang(Hot/Spicy Soup)($ 10.99): A little pricey for the contents, but they did not disappoint with their soup. It was very flavorful and a bit spicy, but maybe not spicy enough. Their beef was tender but nothing to take note of, and the flavors of all the ingredients flowed well with each other. Good job! Didn’t make my taste buds get bored. Pros: — Not a lot of patrons means more attention to service. The server lady was so nice! — Clean interior. Very standard design Cons: — This parking lot is the worst in all of Convoy — Side dish variety is very… orange. Lots of kimchi(and variations of that). Had a boring taste to them. Tips: — Get 10% back on your meal by signing up for MOGL and paying with your credit card there. Message me for a referral code! I tried this place because I knew that during my endeavor looking for the best Korean restaurants in San Diego, I had to stop by once… And once was enough.

This place is ok… their menu consists of Japanese and Korean dishes. Not too many choices to pick from and the prices are kinda above average. Not too much to break your bank, but enought to tell your friends that«We’re definately splitting the bill» or «dude, you got a ONE plate limit» I was craving the Cold Noodles that you eat during hot days BUT they were out of buckwheat noodles. I wanted some sushi BUT their only sushi chef was off thday day. sigh. I ended up getting their Korean BBQ, my mom got their dumpling soup(this bowl can feed like 2 – 3 people), the Behemoth got the Chicken Katsu Curry. oh, and I got a side of Hite Beer(pretty good beer) Overall, the dishes were pretty good. They have a dish that’s perfect for hangovers(dunno what it’s called, but it literally says it on the menu«good for hangover») Customer service: don’t expect them to check on you every couple of minutes to see how you’re doing or if you need anything else. It’s like eating at your Mom & Pops house lol they’re no longer obligated to take care of you, always welcome back home, but you make your own plate HA! totally joking, you don’t really make your own plate here, but if you need a drink refill, extra plates, cutlery etc… you’ll have to either flag down the waiter or get up from your seat and get them, other than that… the staff is pretty friendly. I think next time i’ll try SHABUSHABU next door

After a traumatic 15 minute experience at Tofu House(see Tofu House review) my family and I ended up having to celebrate my birthday dinner here. First impression when I walked in was that this place was very welcoming and absolutely family oriented. Not being biased because of was just happened at Tofu House. this was a family owned business and I knew this was going to be a pleasant experience. I believed one of the owners(the wife) was serving us and she was so sweet, cute, and attentive. The menu had a lot of varieties and it had made my dad excited because he saw things he loved, which made me happy because I wanted my parents to try new things and like em. I had ordered the Hot Bowl with BBQ Beef and it was good! It was a really big portion and the BBQ beef was yummmmmy. My dad had the Hot Bowl with BBQ Pork and let’s just say he inhaled that shtttt lol. Also their bibabbi sauce was friggin good! YUM! My friend had enjoyed her soup and my mom scarfed her noodles down. and she’s a tiny lady. My brother had the small octopus and I thought it was really good, perfect amount of heat. I’m glad we ended up here. good food and very sweet people.
