I just spent 81 dollars on a to go order. Too much to carry so asked one of the ladies at the counter to help me carry the order to my car. Despite an empty restaurant she refused. Don’t even care if the food is good or not at this point. Can’t wait for Phils to open. Customer service matters Brett.

First time trying Brett ‘s. Pulled pork sandwich was really dry. Was more like pork jerky. The roll was stale. My wife had beef brisket. Was just ok. Only thing that was good was the side of mac n cheese. Fix the front doors. They don’t close. The cold breeze was coming in was really bad. Very uncomfortable. May try again.

OKBBQ. I had the two piece beef ribs with two sides and a soda and it was just shy of $ 20. A little pricey. The beef ribs were decent and had a decent amount of meat on them but I expected more for the price I was paying. The sides were good and filling. The mac n cheese is good but a little oily. Sweet potato fries pretty good. Staff is friendly. I would probably eat here again and try some of the other menu items if I was in the area and wanted some bbq.

So disappointed in my food tonight got a pull pork sandwich the meat was so tough and cold plus my fries were soggy! The staff was so rude will not be coming back nor order catering for my company from this place again! At least phil’s is consistent with their food and service! And it was only 7:30pm on a Friday night!!! At least if I would have gone to Wendy’s the food would have been fresh! If I wanted crap I would go pay for crap!!!

This location has gone down hill. I was craving some good BBQ. My brisket sandwich and pork ribs were very dry, had to put a good amount of sauce on it to be able to eat it. Bretts has been getting more pricey than ever. The only thing that was good in my meal was the sausage.

This place is so unbelievably overrated I don’t know where to begin. It honestly is the worst BBQ place ive ever been to. I ordered the briset and Texas rope sausage. The brisket was dry and stale, sausage tasted like a generic grocery store brand, the BBQ sauce was weak, and the cashier seemed like she was semi retarded. I really don’t understand the appeal of this place. Phil’s is 10 times better! Very disappointed. Will not be back.

Their BBQ is ok. There’s nothing extraordinary about them, but are tasty. The corn muffins, on the other hand, is absolutely amazing! I always get some by the dozen. Top them with the sweet butter. It’s delicious! Customer service is usually good, but when I went in today, the person at the register was not pleasant. I ordered my usual dozen corn muffins and I had to ask for a bag, as well as the butter that goes along with it. When I asked for it, it was as if I was asking for more than I ordered.

I grabbed a quick dinner here the other night — beef ribs, hush puppies. The ribs were generous cuts of meat, and well-cooked, the bbq sauce was great.

Brett’s BBQ is pretty good. Brett’s is one of the few eateries that has been in the 4s Commons pretty much since it opened. I’m a BIG supporter of small business owners!!! If you’re ever close by and looking for good bbq I encourage you to stop by. I am concerned for this place as Phil’s BBQ is opening up down the street so all you residents who live close by… support your local small businesses! Pros of Brett’s — It’s personal — Lots of variety — Tasty bbq sauce — Tasty sides Somewhat cons — The meats are not always moist and tender In summary Brett’s BBQ is the place to go and I will definitely go back again! Finally decided to try this place out since we live so close by, what a big disappointment. The baby back ribs had NO seasoning, also had a weird taste to the meat… left a plastic taste in my mouth. Ribs were super dry!!! My husband tried the pulled pork sandwich, and pretty much had the same experience I had. I’m giving two stars due to the fact that at least their baked beans and potato salad were decent. Staff was also unfriendly and unwelcoming No «thank you!», «see you again» or «have a good night!».not even a greeting at the register. At least I gave this place a chance, unfortunately will not be coming back.

I was super excited to find out that there’s a bbq joint near my apartment. I love phils, but unfortunately it’s always packed and really far from home. Luckily, Brett’s was a pleasant surprise of great tasting bbq in a suburban California setting. This place is fairly pricey, but you get a whole lot of food for your buck. I ordered the pulled pork platter, which was a heaping portion tender, juicy shredded pork topped with their delicious in-house bbq sauce. For sides I got the macaroni and cheese and the French fries. The Mac and cheese was just okay, super creamy but lacking a bit in flavor. The fries were amazing– Shoestring, crispy, and delicious. My boyfriend got the brisket platter, which was also tender, but a little on the drier side. He got the hush puppies and the coleslaw as his sides. The hush puppies were fresh and tasty, and the coleslaw was a bit too mustardy for my liking. Overall, the food was really satisfying, and I look forward to coming back and trying different sides to go with the amazing pulled pork!

Bretts is some good bbq. I used to always get the chicken sandwich. The chicken sandwich can be a little dry at times. Put more sauce on it. I love the pulled pork sandwich. That pork is super tender and juicy. They serve a good amount of fries with your sandwich. The sandwich meat is over flowing from all sides. Definitely get napkins. I always get extra bbq sauce. Expect to get dirty trying to eat it. Good prices. When i worked in the 4s area my lunch time was here many times.

So far, Brett’s(both this one and in Encinitas) is our favorite BBQ place in San Diego County!(Haven’t tried Coop’s or Bull’s yet, but way better and easier than Phil’s; much better food than Abby’s; and on a par with Lil’ Alex in Chula Vista, but much closer.) Not cheap, but reasonable. Never a long wait, friendly staff, and GREAT food — perfectly cooked; great BBQ sauce;, great beans; great coleslaw! Yes, the atmosphere is simple and uninspiring — but it’s BBQ — who looks for atmosphere? And the food is inspiring enough that I just shut my eyes and soak in the flavor(although shutting my eyes creates a real mess when I’m eating!) When I want to splurge on calories and red meat, I love this place!

I have to say, it’s hard to turn down a very good smoked brisket sandwich, and luckily for me, Brett’s makes one that I can’t keep my hands off. I ordered the combo brisket sandwich with sweet potatoes and the BBQ sauce on the side for only $ 8.95. I say only, because the serving size was huge! The smokey brisket was literally falling off the bun. I loved having the BBQ sauce on the side, so I could control how much to pour onto the brisket as I ate the sandwich. The brisket was very tasty and had a good smokey flavor. It was mêlée of meat, because there were crispy pieces and then some more tender pieces. However, some of the pieces were a little dry. Overall it was some very good brisket, but if they would pour a touch of au jus over the meat right after they put it on the sandwich, that would me smashing. The bun was good, for it was moist and a little toasty around the edges. The BBQ sauce was mild, although I only tried their original sauce, but it tasted quite good with the brisket and the sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries were excellent and they offer a heaping pile of them. The had a very good crispy exterior and soft flavorful center. Their seasoning was spot on, and like I said, these were great eating with the BBQ sauce too. The meal also came with a large pickle spear which was good, and it also came along with some nice service too. I love my smoked meats.

A pleasant surprise. Love BBQ, but always avoided this place due to it’s location and the suburban swarm around it. Finally got over that and gave it a shot. Brett’s is a good BBQ place. It was lunch time and I wasn’t hungry enough for ribs, so I went for a brisket sandwich and mac & cheese. Plate came out fast and massive. Sandwich sizes are no joke. They’re ready for a busy lunch crowd and there’s hardly a wait on your meal. Huge brisket sandwich with a respectable side of mac & cheese. Presentation was good with just the right a mount of sauce on the sandwich with a side of sauce if you want to add more. Along with it being on a quality bun and pickle on the side, I knew I was in for a good meal. Bonus points for having wet wipes. Brisket was chopped and very good. I could get my smoke fix and enjoy a big quality sandwich. Even being served on a quality bun, the portion was too much for it and the bun would tear and fall apart. Being that it tasted great and they put it together with attention not being too sloppy, I didn’t have a problem eating it with a fork. I’d prefer them to serve sliced pickles to be able to put in the sandwich., but happy they served a pickle on the side. The mac & cheese was good, but was expecting more flavor seeing the chunks of cheese in it. I’m coming back to try some different dishes soon.

Boy has this place gone down hill. Used to frequent a lot more often when we lived close by. Probably hadn’t been to Brett’s in 3 or 4 years. Used to be a great place to get a pulled pork sandwich and the Pit Master salads. Walked in recently at 5:00 pm and no one in the place. Salads where bland, fries obviously had been under the heat lamp all day and pulled pork was really dry. Good thing there are other options for BBQ in town now. Jim F.

I love this place! My family has been regulars here for at least 5 years now. The BBQ is always delicious, and the sweet potato fries are the best I have ever had. The line isn’t usually too bad, and the food takes a little while to prepare. If you go towards closing time then they will give you larger than normal portions and their normal portions are pretty huge. They generally switch out their vegetable side daily, so you never know what you are going to get. Also, their cornbread is nice and toasty. If you are getting a family meal, it might be best to crunch the nuber a little and order another plate of meat on top of one of the smaller options. My family usually will get family meal #1 with an extra plate of brisket.

Not going to lie — the main(and only) appeal for me here are the fries. My sister and I indulge ourselves by ordering fries to-go here once in awhile, and it’s definitely worth it every time. We both love sweet potato fries — and the ones here are one of our favorites! They’re crispy, sweet, and salty. We also love their regular fries and sometimes would just order those alone. One order to-go is a pretty big size, and we split it between the two of us. I have had their chicken sandwich before — but because I’m not a huge fan of BBQ(not a big meat eater) that’s not why I come here. I remember it being good though, and would probably a chicken sandwich again if I was hungry enough. Their BBQ sauce is perfect! It’s thinner than what you might expect of a sauce, but goes great on everything. A solid alternative to ketchup or ranch as a dipping sauce. Good little spot in 4S — not tons of seating, but you can easily walk and find some elsewhere.

I always pass by this place and finally decided to give it a try. It’s funny because when we walked in and was checking out the menu, an older gentlemen claimed that it was better than Phil’s BBQ. Well here it goes… FOOD: Half Rack Baby Back Ribs $ 15 (Two Sides: Sweet Potato Fries & Corn Pudding) The ribs had some meat on it but it was too dry for my taste. I prefer meat that falls right off the bone. The BBQ sauce was average as well, nothing special. The sweet potato fries on the other hand were delicious! Perfectly fried and not too sweet. The corn pudding was something i’ve never tried before. It is basically corn mixed with muffin breading which made it taste like a type of stuffing. It was good as well. BBQ Baked Potato $ 8.50 Their potato is pretty big, not the biggest i’ve seen but enough to be eaten as a meal or shared between two people as a side item. The pulled pork was average. Not really tender enough for me as well. It comes with butter, sour cream, bbq sauce, onion and cheese. Mac & Cheese My friends liked it, but i did not. It had a very light flavor and had the texture of powdered cheese. It was not good. Overall, the sides were a lot more delicious than the main course. But i don’t think I will be returning.

This place defines«OK» Nothing to rave about, nothing to complain about it’s all just mediocre. Got a family pack(see photo) and chose half brisket half pulled chicken. The brisket was OK, the chicken was a bit dry. I liked the sweet potato fries and the hush puppies but who screws those things up? If you really don’t want to drive 20min for BBQ I guess you could go to Brett’s. Who is Brett and why is his BBQ so mediocre… I wonder what his grades are like.
