I was cruising around Old Town the other day with my Uncle Al and we dropped in to this great place, I’d never seen it before; but as usual, Uncle Al was already a regular. «you’re gonna love this place. They got all kinds of vintage Aloha and Hawaiiana» I said, «What like Hawaiian shirts and hula skirts and stuff?» Uncle Ow pulled me aside and whispered, «Hold it Kid, Didn’t I teach you any better than that? Don’t call them Hawaiian shirts around Mike, he’ll crack you in the coconut. You gotta call it Vintage Aloha.» «alright Al, whatever» «Listen Kid I’m just looking out for ya. This guy Mike really knows his stuff and I brought you down here cause I know how you are about clothing.» Al was right. This guy Mike really knows his stuff. Al and Mike hugged and High five’d and Mike showed Al this vintage ashtray shaped like Florida that he’d just found for my Aunt Lisa. Walls full of hand picked vintage aloha shirts, dresses and Bric-à-brac as he calls it. I call it awesome. He’s got all kinds of Kukui nut necklaces, knick knacks, sculptures, lamps, knit bikini tops, surf art, old mexican movie thingies, like marquis thingies, you know what I mean. Mike is an OG San Diegan and you gotta hear some of his stories. He just opened a couple of months ago but I see this place becoming a real cool place to hang out actually. If you are looking for an authentic Hawaiian, I mean Aloha shirt, I mean like the real deal, made in Hawaii, Duke Kahanamoku, Kamehameha, Reef, Royal Hawaiian, Tropicana, Hawaiian Holiday, Malahini and a bunch of other cats whose names I can’t spell, this is the only place to go. He’s got great music playing down there too. I’m telling you, the odds are you’re going to see my butt down there combing the racks for some good stuff before I head to the next Tiki Party.
