Mmm! I love this restaurant ! they’re spring rolls come with 5 different sauces and all the vegetables are super fresh. I recommend the pad Thai. Been here on a few dates and the ambiance is great. Very chic and the prices are reasonable. You can’t beat that!

Everything we ordered was tasty and piping hot. The cost adds up a little faster than just ordering entrees, but that’s the nature of Dim Sum. Service was friendly and there wasn’t one thing we were disappointed with(except, our own fault, we thought we were getting fresh spring rolls and missed that they were the fried kind, which were kind of ordinary). I was a little surprised how many things they were out of that night, but the menu is extensive enough that there were plenty of options. The glazed shrimp with the mayonnaise sauce was great(and I’m not a mayo fan) because it was a light coating. How sad that someone gave the place one star just because it isn’t Celedon Thai anymore. Yes, they were good, but nothing about this nice Dim Sum restaurant warranted a one-star rating just because he’s going to miss his old place.

I couldn’t pin the weird tasting thing in my Drunken Noodles aka Pad Ke Mao… until I thought about it and it’s the Chinese broccoli. Chinese broccoli has a bitter taste to it, and the taste rubbed off on the noodles, making it slightly bitter. I wish it had more of a basil taste then Chinese broccoli. The portions were very generous! I love that I had a ton of left over for dinner the next day. I got a level 7, which was pretty spicy, but loved it! My BF got a level 4 and he thought that was spicy… It was a pretty good dish, next time we’ll have to try other dishes and dine in the restaurant instead of taking it to go.

If you’re looking for a nice place to eat Thai in Hillcrest, this is a great place. Although you can’t tell from the street, this place is really nice inside. It’s a nice romantic ambiance, not your typical Thai décor. The food is delicious! We ordered the chicken yellow curry and beef pad see ew. Even though it wasn’t the best pad see ew, it was still pretty good. The yellow curry, however, was awesome and among the best we’ve ever tasted! We also enjoyed two generous servings of Thai iced teas. The staff is kind and always had a smile on their face. Parking is difficult but it’s Hillcrest. Enough said. If you’re able to get the Groupon deal, this is a great spot to get good food at a good deal.

I have not had a bad experience with this place yet– and actually happens to be one of my favorite thai places in SD. However, I have witnessed some very unhappy customers and felt quite awkward about it. The first time my bf and I went there we were treated like royalty – food brought out quickly, refills, etc. However, that same night we noticed 3 people walking out, a man saying he was not going to be paying for the food, and another woman telling them she wanted her food to go at that point. Well… that was awkward. Glaring eyes at us. The food is good and fresh! They always seem to throw in extra egg rolls or appetizers if you get the food to go. There is also always some type of deal going on(groupon has one right now and always has one) — dine in only and does not cover alcohol. Their pineapple fried rice is amazing! Mango chicken is delicious there. Check it out(or order it to go so you don’t have to wait all night). Also, the place is really cute inside!

My boyfriend and I purchased a Groupon for Celadon and decided to venture down to Hillcrest from Del Mar to give it a try. We’re Thai food junkies and will go almost anywhere for some pad see ew! It was a weekday night so the restaurant wasn’t too busy and we were seated upstairs in a nicely decorated room. As usual, we began our meal with two Thai iced teas. Delicious as always and I highly recommend them at any Thai restaurant. For our entrees, we decided to split two of our favorite dishes, beef pad see ew and chicken yellow curry. The yellow curry was among the best that I’ve ever had. Some places skimp on the sauce but this one was nice and saucy. Our pad see ew was good but not the best. The beef was a bit too chewy for my liking but the noodles were cooked well. The dishes here were a few dollars higher than at most Thai places. I believe the noodles ran about $ 12 and the curry was $ 13. The restaurant is in Hillcrest and thus parking is difficult. Keep that in mind.

Came in with a couple of friends from Los Angeles who were visiting. At first they were lagging on acknowledging that we were even there. To our surprise they did not have a hostess. Food was great. Well prized, we are avid Thai food eaters so I will definitely come back here. The décor is very interesting. It gives you the feeling of a fancy night experience with out it being over prized.

I came here for a late dinner with a couple of friends. We had one of those silly spend $ 50 get $ 25 off deals and were looking to finally get rid of it. First off, the interior is shockingly nice. You would never think it just from looking at Celadon from the outside but it has an upstairs area and the décor and ambiance are just lovely, really lovely. However, that’s about as far as my ability to be impressed with this place goes. The food is very overpriced for what it is so we had no problem reaching the $ 50 minimum. We got an order of papaya salad for the table that was so-so. A little bland if you ask me. I also ordered the pad thai with tofu and it was yummy, as is often the case with a dish as safe as pad thai. My friend ordered the salmon panang and it was not good. The panang was SO sweet and the consistency was just strange! It was so viscous and bare of vegetables and salmon. The small filet of salmon was sad in addition to being cooked to hell. My other friend ordered the crying tiger. This was a nice dish. The meat was cooked to a beautiful medium rare and the accompanying sauce was acidic and really tasty. Again, for the price though, the portion of steak was quite sad. You are definitely paying for the atmosphere when you come here. I don’t think I can get over how sweet that panang was especially when there are so many other awesome Thai options with easier parking available.

I used the same Groupon as a previous reviewer(2 drinks, 1 app, 2 entrees for $ 29). I’ve never been here before, so my friend and I make a reservation and stroll in at like 8 on a Saturday night. The place appears to be TOTALLY dead and silent, with a lonely fan blowing behind us. After a few minutes a woman appears and asks us if we want to sit upstairs, but then proceeds to sway us to stay in the dead zone. We didn’t know there was an upstairs, but yes please– we want to sit anywhere but here. Up the stairs we go where we are basically transported into an entirely different restaurant. Not only is the décor not a stark heavenly white like the floor below, but it is totally packed. So packed that we barely receive any service the rest of the night, but instead receive many apologies… they were short staffed, what can I say? The food was good and that’s why they get 4 stars. We had calamari, pad thai with shrimp, and bbq chicken. Thoroughly enjoyed all 3. Also, it appears that the prices have been adjusted downward in comparison to what’s shown as a photo on here. Still more expensive than your average Thai place, but not shockingly so. I recommend this place. Maybe come on an off night, or when people stop flocking with their Groupons and you’ll receive decent service? Bottom line is this place is pretty good and definitely deserves a higher rating than what it has.

Last minute decision for Thai food and we decided to try somewhere we’ve never been. I had heard of Celadon from a friend, but had never managed to make it but I’m glad I did. The inside is much larger than the outside makes it out to be. The upstairs is decorated in teal, white, gray and you guessed it, celadon. It’s pretty and modern and gives the place a romantic, but casual feel. I had the chicken crispy spring rolls and the red chicken curry. I order the same thing at most Thai places because it always satisfies me. The sauce the spring rolls are served with is bland, but the flavor of the spring rolls was good enough to not need it. The red chicken curry was delicious, but I’ll have to remember to order a 7 or 8 next time because the 6 heat level I ordered barely had any fire. The portion is definitely enough for two which means I had leftovers. The service here was fantastic. Waters were constantly filled, orders quickly taken and food promptly served all with smiles and politeness. The only immediate drawback I have to say about the place is that it’s in Hillcrest where parking is notoriously bad. However, it’s a great Thai place with reasonably priced food and good ambiance.

Went here a few months ago for the first time. My friend whom I was with had been here before, and said it was not bad, so I decided to give it a go. The place looks a lot bigger inside(downstairs and upstairs) and decorated in a French-deco-boutique sort of way. It wasn’t busy at all, though I suspect it may be because we went on a rainy evening. We were promptly seated upstairs. FOOD: *Drunken Noodles — ordered per the great reviews it got on Unilocal.Personally, I’ve had much better elsewhere and thought it was just alright. *Crab Fried Rice — A little soggy I thought. They use real crab though, not imitation. *Tom Yum Soup — Though it tasted pretty standard, it was probably my favorite out of all three items we ordered to share. SERVICE: –Servers were very polite and fast. Food came out promptly. NOTES: –The menu has pretty much all the typical Thai food items you would find in any other a Thai place in SD(pad thai, curry, etc). –Portions are big enough to share between 2 – 3 people. — If you are willing to drive another 10 minutes, I highly recommend Bahn Thai in University Heights or Tam’s Thailand Food in Normal Heights. Both in neighboring communities and the food blows this place away in regards to authenticity, taste and value.

Love this place. Don’t let the façade of the building fool you, they keep it classy with the interior décor. They used to have a white piano in the lobby but has since been replaced by couches. Service here has always been great, even when they’re understaffed(on one visit, they must have been understaffed in the back because the food suffered from it). The prices are reasonable. I’d be happier with a wider beer selection but they’re cocktails are definitely delicious. I’ve sampled too many entrees to keep track of but can fully assure everything on the menu is great. They always have Groupons so if you’re considering trying this place out, that’s a good route to go.

Anytime you casually choose your dinner based on convenience and curb appeal, you’re taking your life in your hands. We did just that Sunday night when we were lured by Celadon’s chic décor. Thankfully, we quickly saw the signatures of a place that has its act together: 1) Clean glass 2) Prompt wait staff 3) Thai people in a Thai restaurant. You might think number three is a bit over the top, but how many Chinese do you ever see eating at the Chinese buffet??? Hmm??? After we ordered, I bit my lip as I scrolled through Unilocal on my phone. People complained of lackluster service, especially on a Sunday. Doh! But let me tell you, those concerns were quickly put to rest. In fact, our drinks we were refilled four times. Maybe you all have much higher standards in regard to hydration, but that was good enough for us. Our most notable observation was the ornate décor and candlelit, romantic setting, and how it didn’t match the menu prices. My total tab for my chicken pad see-ew and drink was only $ 15!!! I still cannot believe that. This place has to be one of the best Thai bargains in town. This is an easy four stars and we’ll definitely be back. A lot of people posted pics of the menu, and I’d suggest seeing for yourself this place is quite the good deal.

I came in to dine here on a Saturday evening about 8pm and found the dining room very busy, so much so that a wait of 20 minutes was already on par… lucky for me as the newbie solo bachelor to town, I was just fine asking for a seat at the bar where dinner is also served. I had scoured the menu online beforehand so I placed me classic order at any Thai place as normal. Wonton Soup($ 12 pot size) chicken satay($ 6) fresh veggie spring rolls($ 6) and for my beverage, unsweet tropical ice tea($ 2.50). My meal was spot on for this visit! Within 10 – 15 minutes my spring rolls came out which were indeed fresh and tasteful with a nice crisp, next came the well seasoned and spiced chicken satay skewers(4) which were succulent, moist and delicious! Last but not least was my piping hot bowl of pork and chicken wonton soup loaded with veggies. For under $ 30 I got a full meal, drink and fast, friendly service on a night the place was obviously quite busy. I even saw 5 additional parties come in(besides the 3 waiting when I got there) during my meal. This tells me that this place is either very well known for its Thai food or it just happen to be a popular place to be on this visit, either way thats a good sign. If SD has Thai food like this available then its going to move up my list of favorites for ethnic food very quickly!

I would give 2.5 starts if allotted, but 3 in this case will suffice. The food is ALWAYS good. The service is ALWAYS the same, efficient with little interaction. The problem comes with pricing. If you go around the corner or down University Avenue one will find many Thai Restaurants with good tasting food, for much less cash. This fact is noticeable since the restaurant is never full. Had the Pad-Se-Ew, Fresh rolls and Green Curry with a friend, it was of course yummy and a lovely experience. Recommended for: Parties who want to converse Romantic date Take out.

Went out for dinner with a friend around 8:30pm on a Wednesday night. I’d read good reviews about Celadon and decided to try it out. Upon walking in, I was surprised by the décor. Celadon has the look of a rather fancy restaurant, with mirrors and chandeliers and white linen tablecloths. Since I had read this was a casual place, that surprised me and made me feel a bit uncomfortable since I was just wearing jeans and a tee shirt. Nothing about the place felt homey. Adding to this general feeling was that we were the ONLY people in the restaurant the whole time I was there, so the place was quiet. Service was okay — again, we were the only people in there, so you’d think service would have been outstanding, but we still had to wait to order while the waitress and the bartender stood at the bar and chatted for about 10 minutes before taking our order. Unacceptable. However, when the waitress did finally come over, she was friendly and polite. I ordered the Drunken Noodles for my dinner, and was pleasantly surprised at the size of the entrée. For only $ 12, I had enough food for dinner and lunch the next day. The price seemed VERY reasonable for the food. The flavors were good, however I was dissapointed with the lack of spice in my dish. As with many Asian restaurants, they asked how spicy you wanted your food, on a scale of 1 to 10. My friend said 1(not spicy) and I said 7(fairly spicy). However, this must have gotten lost in translation somehow because I would have rated my food as maybe a 2. My friend(who doesnt like spicy food at all) was able to eat mine happily. Finally, although the food was quite reasonably priced, the price of alcohol was way too much. $ 5 for a 12 oz bottled Bud Light? I don’t think so. Overall, I wouldn’t go there again.

The place is so much bigger than it looks from the outside. Its gorgeous in there, from the white piano you see in when you walk in to the upper sitting area. The food was really good. Nothing to complain about here. The Salt and Pepper Chicken wings were great! Tom Kah Soup was so tasty, but then came the lull. There was a large party and we knew the kitchen was going to be slammed. Therefore, we ordered everything at once hoping to beat the crowd. Once we got our Crispy Pork Belly and broccoli I didn’t mind the little laps in time. I had never had anything like it before, I really liked it. Finally about 15 minutes later we finally got our Crispy Sea Bass with basil. Checking the time we realized we had been there for a little over 2 hours and had ordered everything at once within the first 10 minutes of being there. The Wife and I are pretty patient, we understood the kitchen and staff were slammed. Yet the lag time and the noise of the neighboring party made us to just box up what we had left and leave. I’m sure we will come back and give it another go. Then I can give them a better rating I’m sure they deserve.

Beautiful décor at this Thai restaurant. The staff and service were excellent. I ordered a Celadon special fried rice with tofu and roti that comes with a curry. I literally drank the curry from the bowl. The fried veg rolls were super tasty. Overall a very delicious meal at a moderate price. The portions are huge too. I would definitely go back when I visit San Diego. Also, this restaurant is about a mile from San Diego Zoo.

Love, love, LOVE! I loved this place! Food, service, atmosphere, everything was A+! So from the outside, the place doesn’t look that great. but don’t let that fool you! As soon as you walk in, the quality is noticiable. The place is adorned with white. White furniture, white walls, white everything. We went on a Monday night and lucky us, we didn’t have to wait. The hostess took us to our table and as we passed by other employees, they ALL said«hello» to us :) So our server came quickly and took our order. I got a martini($ 11), stuffed chicken appetizer(I think this was about $ 12), and drunken noodles($ 16) and my friend got garlic and pepper chicken($ 15). My noodles were amazing! The best drunken noodles I’ve ever had! :) and the rest of the food was amazing as well. Its a little pricey, but well worth it!

I really wanted to like this place. They have vegetarian options, including tofu, mock duck and mock chicken. A Thai restaurant this veggie friendly can be rare, so even though their prices are almost double(average dish $ 15) what I would spend at my local hole in the wall Thai joint, I figured it was worth a shot. It wasn’t. Instead of going into great detail about everything that made this experience only 1 star, I’ll provide some of the more memorable highlights: Arrival: Empty downstairs area, no hostess, wobbly tiles on floor, no TP in restroom, told there was a 5 minute wait; more like 15. Dining area: Patrons at other tables seem irritated and impatient; many walked up to the server to get/give their checks. Only 2 servers for approximately 11 tables. First impressions: Not good, but it was getting late and we were already seated, so we ordered. Meal: We ordered 3 dishes: 1 was correct. 1 had egg in it(ordered without), 1 more had egg in it and something like ROCKS(ordered without egg, should have ordered without rocks too!) 1 brought out wasn’t even ours! 1 out of 4? 25% accurate? That’s a big fat F in my book! We ordered 3 dishes to share.(Specifically ordered vegetarian with no fish/oyster sauce and no egg. She even repeated it back and our check said«No fish sauce on everything»; so far so good!) The dishes arrive, but one of them is not even close to what we ordered, so we flag someone down and let them know. We start to eat the two dishes we have remaining(pad prik sod and pad se-ew) while waiting for our pad thai. I notice that there is some egg on top of the pad se-ew, but not mixed in, so I let someone else eat that. We are just about done with the dishes we have when we finally get the pad thai, with tons of eggs mixed in. So we have to send that back to get what we ordered. We finally get the pad thai and start eating that. My first big bite results in a loud and unpleasant crunch. I felt like I bit into a rock! It broke into many hard pieces and I felt like it took forever to get it out of my mouth. A few minutes later, the same thing happened to one of my dining companions. We still don’t know what we bit into, but it was much harder than a piece of peanut or old rice. The servers are MIA and have already demonstrated their lack of caring about their customers’ dining experiences, so there was no point in trying to hunt someone down to have this corrected. We did let our server know when she finally brought our check and she did not appear to care at all.(Waiting for our change was a nice long wait too). This experience made it apparent that the employees of this restaurant do not care about their customers at all. There were only 2 servers, with no visible manager or anyone running the show. It was disorganized and just unpleasant. For a ‘fine dining’ establishment, Celadon fails completely. It really is a shame because their décor is promising and the food(it they can make it right) really wasn’t bad. Considering the high price for small portions, I would say the food probably deserves 2.5÷5 stars. However, their inability to properly prepare and serve dishes as ordered, on top of the service(or lack thereof) really ruined this experience. P. S. As a final F.U., one of my dining companions got hives immediately after the meal, and the other got sick. Coincidence? Perhaps, but I’ve still got a bad taste in my mouth about this place(and maybe some pieces of rock too!).
