Service is poor. Product has gone down hill. And the sales people really don’t seam to have good relationships with there customers

Chesapeake Fish was a long time vendor of our restaurant. About six months ago we started purchasing spiny lobsters from them. We liked the product and our business providing«lobster feasts» began taking off. I noticed that the price per pound on our invoices began increasing at about 8% more each week. So i called to speak with the sales manager. He told me that supply was dwindling and that he only had about 175 pounds more in inventory. I had not heard of any of these problems prior to my call regarding the invoice increases. So I agreed to their price for the remaining lot of inventory. The sales manager asked when we wanted them delivered and we agreed that within two weeks we would take the total. Having not heard any more, I contacted Chesapeake Fish the week before Valentine’s Day. Rich, the sales manager stated that although he agreed the lobsters were tagged sold, the product was sold out from under us to other customers because they offered a higher amount. Shame on you. Apparently the short term greater profit on less than two hundred pounds of lobsters is more important than retaining a customer at a location that has used Chesapeake Fish as their single source of seafood in the past. I have worked in sales in the food processing industry in the past and simply can’t believe a man’s word is so worthless today.

This past week for school we took a field trip to some local vendors/suppliers, and Chesapeake Fish Co was hands down frickin’ A-MAZING. We got to walk all through the facility(in Seaport Village), see from start to finish how product(seafood) moves through processing, and I have to tell you there is a reason Chesapeake’s been around for 90-some years. Our tour guide was very informative, just barely scraping the surface of knowledge in regards to environmental issues, over-fishing, etc. My only disappointment was I was hoping for free samples of salmon, mussels or even oysters on the half shell, haha!
