I took my older laptop computer with Windows 7 in for a free cleaning– and paid them $ 49 to install a screen part I had on hand. They demanded ot be paid in cash only. When they returned the computer to me– they had installed all sorts of additional unwanted, unasked for computer software like and joust. Moreover some of my web programs were hijacked. I spent the following morning using Malware Bytes, Anvisoft, AntiSpyware, registry cleaners, Spybot, Spyware Blaster, etc.- apps that I have installed over the years and use regularly,(including just prior to taking the computer to them, to clean it. My boot up time which average 76 – 90 second now runs around 130. Moreover when I use an open tab in Mozilla Firefox instead of going to my facebook home page it now goes to IObit facebook page instead. He noticed I had SpyHunter 4 on my machine– I told him I had just installed it that morning to help identify– He claimed that was the problem– he knew for a fact that Spyhunter installed specious software viruses and spyware. I told him«Bullshit!» He said if I was going to be rude I could leave. I told him I wanted the software he put on removed — I kept the code id from the before deleting it. He said if I did not leave– he would call the cops. I invited him to go ahead. He told me I could not stay there all day. I am taking this guy down. I think he gets paid a commission to install this software which collects owner information and the ID tells the software firm who gets the credit. it’s technically not a virus, but it does exhibit plenty of malicious traits, such as rootkit capabilities to hook deep into the operating system, browser hijacking, and in general just interfering with the user experience. The industry generally refers to it as a «PUP,» or potentially unwanted program. There were over 1000 PUPs reported on my machine– after my «free cleaning»
