I’ve been looking for this place for 5 years… ever since I came to SD. it is not about the location or the furniture«stupid» its about the food. BEST side potatoes in years… the peppers and onions are like I would make them for myself. if they had a bay view… they would get a 10+. I’m going back and taking everyone I know.

The pigs in blankets were yummy. They were fairly speedy for take-out. A decent spot.

One star for waitress service, but food more like Country Mcnasty, never ever ever eeeeever go back again, country potatoes more like onion an peppers minus the potatoes. waffle so hard could use as a freesbie an butter wouldn’t even melt. Waitress said since first time want to make it the best an gave me some bland gravy with sausage to go with onions an peppers lol. It was more paste with no flavor

Came here with a group of 6 New Year morning. We were seated right away. When the waitress came to take our order, she asked if we needed separate checks. Awesome! Splitting one check is always a such a headache… I ordered the pan handle scramble with hashbrowns. The sausage patty was WAY too salty for me, but the rest of the dish was pretty bland. The hashbrowns were probably my favorite part. Portions here are pretty big. I only finished half of it. Service was amazing though! The waitress got one of our orders wrong, and she kept apologizing for it. She kept checking in on us to see if we needed anything while we waited.

This place does not live up to the hype. The food was just so so. My first waffle was cold, the older crowd comes in and set up camp to read and drink coffee. You can find better choices with better food near by

The only reason I am giving this place three stars and not less is because the servers were very friendly and constantly checking on our table to make sure we had everything we needed. The food was not good at all. Eggs Benedict came out almost frozen and that hollandaise sauce was blahhh.

This place does look country as you walk in, it reminds me of being back east visiting relatives. The walls are covered in wallpaper but do agree it would be nice to have a more modern twist to the décor. We ordered two crepes and a turkey burger with crinkle fries. The blueberry crepes came with whipped cream and plentiful blueberries. Also the nutella & banana crêpe came with decent amount bananas and nutella, for the sweet tooth. My turkey burger came with onion, mushroom, lettuce with melted cheese on the bun. The burger itself was tasty without any added condiments. Of course I ordered an avocado with the burger! The crinkle fries were really crispy. The prices are decent too for the quantity of food about $ 10 each

If you want to wait forever for tasteless food in a dingy dark restaurant with bad service, this is the place for you.

This place is a throwback to an old time diner. The décor is not the most chic but the service is usually top notch and friebdly. It reminds me of a small town diner. The food is also really good with generous sized portions. They seeve up some amazing breakfast items. When you sit down, it is a very casual environment. And depending what time of day there are people waiting to be seated. Despite people waiting to be seated, I never feel rushed to eat quick and leave. There is a little wooden brain teaser puzzle on your table to help you pass time. Parking is okay here. Exiting the parking lot can sometimes be tricky.

It’s a cute little place for breakfast if you’re in the area. Service was friendly and attentive. Menu is typical for a breakfast joint. Boh hubby and I had omelette with harsh and biscuits. My omelette was good; I didn’t care for the biscuits, thought it was under baked IMO; nothing to rave about. Many guests seem to like the biscuits though.

Food was pretty good. Very nice old fashioned breakfast place. The service was good. We had a young girl as our server didnt look to happy to be working on Saturday but overall it was good.

This restaurant seems very popular. Every time I get out of church I pass by to try and eat breakfast but I was never successful until this past Sunday. The waiting list to eat here was 45 minutes and the amount of time to get your food is probably half of that. The food was really good and that’s why I’m giving it three stars. However, like mentioned earlier, the waiting times seem a little exaggerating for me. I understand that It might be something that they can’t control, do to their popularity. But i feel that they can try and be a little more accurate than being off by like 23 minutes. Food Great. Wait times for sitting and getting food, a little too long.

I live in the are and I always wondered what was going on at this place. Decided to try it last week… fortunately we only waited 15 minutes… unfortunately we should have left at the 5 minute mark. Listen people the wait is because all the resident senior citizens arrive at opening and NEVER leave… The food is average… on the greasy side… BIG portions but you wont want to eat the whole thing anyway… dishes are from $ 10 – 15 Service is below average. The place looks like you travel back in time(and to the south apparently) fake dusty flower baskets everywhere… old grean carpet, formaica tables… pink and green paint job. I really don’t get this place…

We decided to walk here for breakfast one morning and it was the worst decision ever. We waited almost an hour to be seated and it wasn’t because they were busy. It was because tons of old people like to go there and spend their morning reading the newspaper after they are done with their meals. For real. We peeked in after we put our names down and table after table had single or groups of senior citizens sitting there either deep in conversation or just sitting there reading the paper while people are seated inside and outside, waiting for a table. We were appalled. When we were seated, the server was nice and the food was decent. Nothing to rave about and the prices were high for the portions and quality of food. The wooden peg games kept my daughter busy but was a little sticky(so were the menus) and could have been wiped down more frequently. I know the long wait due to patrons not wanting to leave is out of the restaurant’s control. Usually in this town, if you wait over and hour for food, the food is well worth the wait. Unfortunately, in this case, We didn’t experience anything spectacular.

This restaurant is very quaint with reasonable prices. I ordered the All American, which came with eggs, potatoes, bacon/sausage and 2 pancakes or half a waffle for a little under $ 8. The service was very friendly. The orange juice was awful and so was the décor. They have artificial flowers almost everywhere which = DUST! The restaurant certainly needs a face lift and a dust buster, but overall, food was great.

Great service, great food, great price! Family of 3, all big breakfast with orange juice $ 35. The décor Is very dated but it works as the theme is old school Grammy type of place. I really can’t complain about anything. Thank you, I will definitely be back!!!

Spent the morning with my God daughter and she told me she wanted to eat breakfast. I asked her if she had anything in mind and she told me she wanted pancakes. I thought we’d try this place vs. Denny’s or IHOP. This place is tucked in on the bottom floor of a large office/professionals building(near Phở Hut). It was my first time at this location. I’ve been to the location on Midway near the Marine Corp Recruit Depot(MCRD) a few times, but only ever ordered waffles and other items(never pancakes). Had good experiences at the other location, so thought we’d give it a shot here. Food was alright at this location(Balboa), we both ordered a 2 stack of pancakes with bacon and eggs. The waitress we had really seemed like she didn’t want to be there and hated her job. Her demeanor and her fake customer service(half-hearted greeting, smiles, etc) was so apparent that my God daughter(who is 11 years old) asked me if the waitress was okay. I told her that maybe she had a bad morning or night prior to coming into work and I tried not to let it ruin our breakfast though. Overall, breakfast was okay(nothing to write home about). Food came out quickly and was hot, no issues with it. Customer service was a little below average at this location(it’s better at the Midway locay). I’m going to give that waitress the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to her having a bad morning. I’d give this place another chance… and hope the customer service is better next time around.

An okay breakfast place. Nice country atmosphere. We went early in the weekday and, like others, there was no one to greet except for a ‘have a seat’ from the back of the place. Service was minimal for an nearly empty restaurant. The food was good enough, but not awesome. Not large portions for the special, but the waffles were plenty and good. Seems like a good place for families and the server did appear to know some of the regulars that appeared, but even they appeared slightly miffed by not having been greeted at the door. It is located near a corner in a business building. Look for the painted window signs

Yummy! This place is super delish and extremely reasonably priced! The portions are generously sized and I don’t think I payed more than $ 7 for eggs, sausage, potatoes and pancakes. The only downside was the lack of service. We saw our server maybe three times and told her we were somewhat in hurry and then proceeded to wait about 10 more minutes to get the check, we ended up going to the register to pay for our meal and we waited there for about 5 mins before they found our check. Bummer for that, but I would come back still for the food and price.

So, this little tucked away waffle restaurant is the cutest thing you’ll walk into in the area. You walk in and you think, «little old ladies!!!» The restaurant is decorated with tons of pink and flowers and the entire restuarant is decorated in a way that literally reminds you of Betty White. We had an order of plain waffles, strawberry waffles, two sausages, hashbrowns, two scrambled eggs, and coffee. I like their coffee — not too strong, and not too watered down for my taste, but I suppose that everyone has their own preference. Their waffles are HUGE, so I can’t complain about the $ 6.50 that was spent on it. It comes with a little scoop of butter and a mini, individual syrup cup. The waffle itself is definitely a «country» waffle. If you’re a fan of Belgian waffles, you’ll immediately taste the difference — Country Waffle has waffles that are heavier and thicker, as well as denser. The strawberry waffle comes with A TONOFSTRAWBERRYSYRUP, alongside with butter and whipped cream. The entire middle of the waffle was completely drowned in the strawberry sauce and made it too sweet and heavy to eat. Otherwise, the plate had good flavor when paired with the waffle. Hasbrowns, eggs and sausages were fairly standard in taste. The eggs tasted a little funny — kind of like Denny’s, where they use the liquid eggs(kind of like Eggbeaters). There’s always a weird taste of liquid eggs that is off-putting. If you try eggs at The Mission, it’ll taste like you cracked your own eggs and asked the chefs to cook it. Overall, the service was great, the food was decent, and the décor is reminiscent of little old ladies who serve tea in ridiculous flowery tea sets. It’s a decent place but a tad bit pricey for the quality of food, which is why I give it 3 stars. That being said, I’ll probably go back on a day that I want breakfast, but too lazy to drive all the way to The Mission.
