Great find in San Diego downtown. Big tacos and good quality fish! Great fish taco experience.

I love their Halibut sandwich with cross cut fries & slaw. I used to go for lunch when I worked downtown. This is a great place for lunch.

Portions here are massive so come hungry! I got the salmon and chips and my husband got the halibut sandwich and together it was about $ 24. Not too bad price for the city/how much food you get. The food is delicious! The chips(waffle cut fries) are especially so. The food is all made to order and you can see the cook working(kitchen is open-ish to dining area) so it comes out piping hot and pretty quickly. One thing I noticed is the lights are turned off during the day letting the giant windows do their job with natural light. If that bothers you there is outdoor seating available. NOPARKINGVALIDATION — not a big deal but kinda stinks for as much as parking is here Overall very satisfied and will be coming back :)

Arrived at 5pm saturday evening and it was closed… so piswed since i had to pay $ 15 for parking around here. You need to uodate your hours if your not going to be open on a saturday at 5pm!

You don’t want to miss out on this hole in the wall. The fish taco lunch was excellent — large portions and very cheap. Probably the best meal I had during my trip to San Diego!

Hands down best fish tacos I’ve ever had! Had the halibut, swordfish, salmon and fried fish all which were amazing in taste and presentation. I highly recommend this place, the guys been in business for 15 years and I can see why!

Had lunch with the wife here. It was not quite as good as we had hoped. They had a fish burrito that was ok. But all in all there are better places to spend your money and calories. All in all it was just«Meh».

Excellent selection of fish tacos and fish combo plates. Small hoke in the wall eatery with the best calamari tacos I have ever experienced. I highly recomend. I will be back! Yum.

Came back for the 2nd time in my indecisiveness of what to eat on a Friday. It was around 2pm so the lunch rush definitely slowed. The man at the counter continues to be the most enthusiastic person I have ever met in my life(again: sarcasm). This time, I had the grilled hallibut and grilled salmon tacos. I asked for the 2 taco plate(specifically the 8.50 one) but I guess if you specify the types of taco meat. they do not honor the 2 taco plate — or this guy just decided to ring me up with the most expensive version of my order. Instead, I paid for two tacos(4.50 each), fries(2.00), and coleslaw(1.00). Total at $ 13 shy a few cents with tax. Make sure you inquire if you approach and think you’re getting the two taco plate… thankfully i was hungry enough to pay the 13 bucks. we’ll consider the excess his tip. The tacos continue to be a good size(each one contains a single portion of fish filet. on the bigger side). I personally like the coleslaw. and of course the fries continue to be delicious. It will fill you up and you won’t feel weighed down like if you eat any of the other fast food in the area. I just wish the guy was a little less grouchy. the woman working the kitchen seemed less than enthused as well. And if people come in ordering the two taco plate. it would have been nice to alert me to the fact that it would be individual items. 4 for the food. and just –0.5 star for the mleeeh attitude of the guy working the register. I still would come back if I had a hankering for fish tacos. I still do recommend.

It’s worth stopping in just for the calamari spicy taco. When I say its not romantic what I really mean is that it’s a dive… but not in a bad way because it’s good.

The best thing I can say about the tacos was that they are big! Having read the other reviews I was really excited to try this place. I love fish tacos. I don’t get the hype here. 2 fish tacos: as I said they were big, but rather bland. Could have used a salsa or white sauce. fried not grilled(my choice, maybe not the best). Coleslaw: Had enough vinegar to drown a pig. I had one bite and passed. Fries: Where are the crisscuts you all are talking about? I got big fries with no seasoning. The best part about them was the ketchup they came with. I’m willing to give this another shot, bc its so close and feels like it has potential. but i was very disappointed.

Super good fish, super big portions; super yummy crisscut fries. A little bit off Broadway, so it’s usually not that crowded. Outside seating is nice, as long as the homeless aren’t too agressive on C Street near the trolley.

I’ve been going here a few times over the years I’ve been working in downtown. Hands down, this is the best fish place in the area! I would rate them second to Blue Water. They give pretty decent portions and everything is fresh! This place may not look fancy like Spikes down the street but the quality and price surpasses them! If you’re looking for a good fish place, this is it!

Best value in town! The fish taco is delicious, crispy and huge. The fries were well seasoned and the cole slaw was great because it has no mayonnaise. Over all the price for the fish taco, chips and slaw was the best deal for $ 6.95. If you like fish tacos come here. Best bang for your buck!!!

For fans of fish tacos and fish and chips, you can’t go wrong with the Downtown Fish Joint in downtown San Diego. With huge pieces of fried fish, the single taco combo will satisfy any hunger with a light cole slaw and crispy waffle fries. The meal is simple and quite affordable.

Excellent fish tacos! You get a lot for your money. I recommend getting the one fish taco plate. It is a lot of food with those yummy waffle fries!

I ordered the fish and chips plate. It was a lot of food for $ 10.00. Easily could make two people happy with one plate. The fish is not beer battered, which is what I’m expecting when someone says, «fish and chips». The waffle fries were good. The cashier and cook were nice.

Nice little fish place. Clearly locally owned and runned. While my fish was good, which was a nice healthy choice alternative to the pizza joint around the corner, sadly the cole slaw, which was the only healthy option side, was tasteless. And I am a huge fan of cole slaw, so I was very disappointed. The only sides that looked like they were any good were french fries. To go with those would have totally cancelled out the healthy option of choosing to eat here. The prices are pretty good, so, just think of it as you’re getting grilled fish, no side, for lunch. Nice nosh.

A friend and I were in the area at an expo and walked over afterwards. I knew from the pictures and descriptions that this place was absolutely no frills. I stuck with the safest of choices — a HALIBUTSANDWICH — and added FRIES. A generous piece of grilled fish came in a soft roll with minimal fixins. It hit the spot for me. Mostly I was excited for the waffle fries which were crunchy and well-seasoned. It was desolate in this downtown area on a weekend afternoon so it’s no wonder they aren’t open late. Definitely not a destination joint, but not bad if you’re around here.
