It’s been a couple years since I’ve been here, and it looks like they have much more rolls without fried stuff this time so I really appreciate that! I had the lemon roll, which is still one of my favorites. I also tried the Hawaiian roll this time which was really good although I have no idea where the sauce was that was supposed to be on it. Service was a little slow and spotty.

I went there for a late lunch and it was alright, apparently it was just after the big lunch rush. The people were really nice but the prices were a little high. I would not mind trying it again but would not make a habit of going there.

Tastes great. But, it’s pricey. There probably isn’t better sushi in UTC. Staff and sushi chefs are nice. I came here because it was within walking distance from my apartment, and I was feeling ultra lazy and didn’t want to drive to Convoy. Good place for a quick fix. If you have time to spare there’s probably better places to go in Convoy.

Awesome food. Brought an out of town guests who raved about it as well. Fresh fish, wonderful sunset roll and the service was fast and efficient for lunch. Close to our office and we will be back!

Service is bullshit The waitress expects you to take the plate yourself. The owner is very rude. She shouted at us for her forgetting what we ordered. Also i think their salmon is from China… Check the picture… The salmon is faded… Tztztz

This sushi was so fresh and good! And they gave us free appetizers that were actually amazing, the way to my heart. I would definitely recommend this place if you are looking for sushi in UTC

I have worked in this area for a number of years and have always seen this place in passing, however have never eaten here until today. My friend and I decided to step out for a quick bite for lunch and decided to come here. Sure glad we did! I originally wanted something small — like a hand roll. But after seeing their«dine in» specials, decided to go for something with more substance. I mean, who can beat 50% off rolls? Not us! So we ended up with the Red and White roll and the Hungry Man roll. The quality is what you would expect at any sushi establishment, but the price is incomparable! For that, I gave it 4 stars and I will definitely be back!!!

Ordered a spicy SCALLOP hand roll, was given a spicy IMITATIONCRAB hand roll with four tiny scallops in it. I HATE imitation crab meat so I told them this isn’t a spicy scallop hand roll. The girl literally doesn’t know anything so she asks the sushi chef about everything. I point out that on the menu it literally just says spicy scallop hand roll and she goes to the sushi chef and asks, comes back and says, «this is how it is.» If I want to make an adjustment I need to pay $ 2 more… for a $ 4 hand roll. AREYOUSERIOUS? Honestly, saying«there’s nothing I can do about it» and shrugging it off isn’t going to get you regulars. Maybe this is why on a Saturday night, there are only two tables including us… Heard they’re under new management but wow. It really sucks. I used to come here often a few years back. The service back then didn’t have any problems. Both the girls who work the floor now seem clueless and stuck up. She literally just shrugged at us, giving attitude. We ordered two hot teas, the house edamame(way too salty), spicy scallop hand roll(scam), salmon skin hand roll(could be better), salmon hand roll(ok I guess), hamachi kama(decent), and an order of salmon and unagi sushi. Bill was $ 43some. That’s pretty expensive… never again. Oh yea, we also ordered the sunset roll. It took forever(~20 min when there was only one other table with two people) so we asked if it was even started. Not even started because there was a platter order he had to make… I’m pretty sure we ordered our roll and everything else 20 min before that take out order came in. Obviously we canceled and got the hell out. Fyi. Only one sushi chef on a weekend night means they know they don’t get busy.

The staff here is some of the nicest and most generous I’ve encountered in San Diego. They bend over backwards to make sure you are satisfied and often have offered complimentary items on slow nights. I love the food too, you cannot beat their happy hour. 3.50 rolls, 30% off special rolls, half off appetizers, alcohol specials. Really amazing deals. The food: They have a dish the Special Edamame, I’m not sure what all is on it: chili powder, oranges, garlic, but it is amazing. We usually stick with a couple normal rolls and an appetizer or nigiri. The food is always fresh and quick. They also don’t try to bring it all out at once, which is nice because you end up getting your meal in courses. The only negative thing I can say is that I typically love a good yellowtail and chives roll, but only with whole fish. They use the scraped kind from leftover yellowtail, like many places use in a spicy tuna roll. I’m just not a fan of the texture. But otherwise I would whole heartedly recommend this place to anyone in UTC looking for sushi.

Sushi is by far one of my favorite foods and I dine in sushi restaurants at least twice a week. Sometimes I go high end, sometimes I just want your standard, neighborhood sushi dining experience and Edo Shushi is great for that. It’s not a «destination» restaurant in and of itself, but if you’re in the neighborhood definitely check it out. The atmosphere is casual and friendly with lots of regulars, there is plenty of parking, and as a bonus it’s located in a shopping center full of other services(nails, beauty, CVS, etc). The restaurant is spacious enough to sit comfortably and it’s usually quiet enough to enjoy a conversation over dinner. Their food selections are pretty standard, plus some specialty rolls that are extremely tasty. Fish is always fresh and portions are very generous. The chefs are extremely friendly and often prepare little«on the house» treats for customers to try. Service is usually quick and always courteous. Their prices are very reasonable compared to many similar restaurants in the area and like I said, you get plenty of food for your $$. Overall a great casual dining experience.

In Xanadu did Kubla Khan a Sensual Pleasure Roll decree. Being able to write that line about a sushi roll concoction involving scallops and spicy tuna is probably the most notable thing to come out of my visit to Edo Sushi. In all other ways, it was pretty average although I suppose«average» is pretty good relative to other sushi options in University City. My date really liked the gyoza although I can’t really say they stood out for me. Summary: I’ve had more pleasurable sensual pleasures.

Edo is within walking distance from where I live. My husband and I like to pop down during happy hour. I really like the spicy tuna roll and the spicy salmon hand rolls :) the sushi chef treated us to a tempura jalapeño stuffed with crab topped with a spicy mayo. It was delicious! A great Saturday happy hour date with amazing food and great service. Thanks Edo!

I’ve been 3 or 4 times now and each visit has been fantastic. The service is always great. Atmosphere is good and the location is very convenient with plenty of parking. The yellow tail is an 8 out of 10 as is the salmon. The spicy tuna cut rolls are great as is the seaweed salad. We’ve even had their quail eggs as a treat and they were great. Happy hour is the way to go as prices can get up there during regular prices hours if you like to eat!!! We will be back.

I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I’ve been to this shopping plaza many times and never really gave Edo Sushi a chance! One day I was browsing through Unilocal looking for a Japanese place that I haven’t been to and this place popped up. The reviews were’t horrible, so might as well give it a chance. We went during Happy Hour where the House Special Rolls are 30%. We started off with gyoza for an appetizer. Surprisingly it was very delicious! I love when they are pan fried as opposed to deep fried. Pan fried gyoza brings out the natural flavor of the meat. My only complaint is that they added this maraschino cherry in the center. That was weird. For the main event, I went with my standard caterpillar roll. I have no complaints. The rice was well seasoned and all the fillings were tasty and well portioned. Overall, service was okay. As with most Asian establishments, it could have been better, but it wasn’t horrible by any means.

It was better on my last visit. Service is good. 2 rolls and a split chicken teriyaki was $ 45. The Star Wars roll was picked by name only. Tuna and spicey jalapeño cream cheese. It was good. Grocery store quality. I would venture somewhere new.

Stopped in for a quick lunch — and really nothing special. I ordered the Sushi lunch which probably is not an overall representation of their sushi. It wasn’t bad, the ingredients fresh — but I really can’t stand the artificial crab or the Nestea that they serve as iced tea(tastes funky to me). Overall-just an average experience which is what you would expect for lunch. Service was a wee bit slow though — which seems the exact opposite of the other reviewers.

Nothing special, but not bad either. While my wife and I were in San Diego, we came here with some locals to the area, including a 6-month old. Knowing how young children can be, we were hoping to get in and out fairly quickly, to avoid the children’s witching hour. Unfortunately, we had a new waitress. While she was very nice, she hadn’t learned the menu yet, telling us it was her second day. We had a number of questions surrounding what was in things, such as if real crab was in California roll, or if the spring rolls were vegetarian. FYI, vegetarian spring rolls, no real crab in California roll; perfect for us. However, getting those answers took so long, we were getting concerned the baby would get hungry and were kinda miffed. The other waiter there seemed to know much more stuff, and was helping out. I felt bad for the waitress, being thrown to the wolves like that. Or maybe she should have learned the menu and didn’t. Either way, service was not stellar. The menu is a double-sided checklist of items to fill in quantities. The ‘normal’ rolls run in the $ 6 – 7 range, and the ‘specialty’ rolls in the $ 12 range. Personal preference of mine, but I didn’t think any of the specialty rolls we got were all that good and not worth the price. Many of the larger rolls were structurally unsound and kept falling apart. I liked the basic rolls better. YMMV. The miso soup was normal, and I’m pretty sure exactly the same as in any other Japanese-style restaurant. All in all ok, but nothing special.
