This is a long overdue review for this place. Last year in early 2012 I moved back to SD and this was one of the first companies that contact me when answering Craigslist job ads. I was answering a job ad for customer service somewhere (yep, another ad that doesn’t mention a company name or anything). I first considered going through with interviewing with Foundation after I read one or two reviews here on Unilocal.It gave me some optimism reading those interviews, and so did the email or calls from them before my interview. Anyways, I lived near Paradise Hills and had to get a ride to Kearny Mesa since I had no car of my own at the time. It was a total waste of gas and time. I had to fill out a paper application at the office and have an interview afterwards. However, the interview I had and lack of contact thereafter which makes me give this place only one star. They guy who interviewed me only talked to me for about 2 minutes! Part of that 2-​minute time frame was asking me if I was interested in the sales position or the customer service position. I was honest and mentioned the customer service was my preference. After that, no matter how many times I tried to call back (or even email, if I had an email for these people), any contact I made, nobody returned anything to me or took a few seconds to say, «no thanks,» or anything! So anybody who applies for any ads through CL and gets contacted by them, please don’t ever get your hopes up and you probably don’t have to bother spend time getting ready practicing because it was way too brief, what I went through, all for nothing at all. If I have spare time and get around to it, I might tell any other job seekers out here in SD county of other places that wasted my time like this in a future review on Unilocal

Cancelled my interview too. Would like a real job not selling makeup in a strip mall or door to door soliciting. Would be a waste of a masters degree. Thank you fellow Unilocalers.

Thank you everyone for writing the reviews, I called letting the Receptionist know of my cancellation of the interview and she was rude as all get out… glad i didn’t waste my time with a company like this, like I have in the past. Love Unilocal

This is a direct marketing business that is essentially the same as Avon or Mary Kay. The website claims sports, entertainment, etc. however that is other branches of the company that you will not work for (assuming you get hired).
I asked what ingredients were in the makeup doing the interview (i.e. mineral makeup, lanolin free, ambergris free, SLS and ALS free, etc) and I got «I don’t know it’s just another makeup line. You know like L’oreal or Maybelline» which coming from a manager who has been doing this for a year I would expect them to be able to recite something, especially since direct marketing is door-​to-​door sales… that is until you prove yourself and become a manager.
Manager claimed that they marketed people like DirectTV, and 75% of something to do with baseball (not exactly sure because she rattled off a list — lol ironic that she didn’t know the product that she sold though). But this marketing group operates on a multi level marketing scheme, and each level creates it’s own entity so they don’t really market for all of these people, they just market makeup.
I came home and did some more researching in an attempt to find these other companies that she spoke of in other cities, and to try and find something positive that was said about the group. Well she explained that the companies all have different names (which I found stuff on, but had to dig kind of deep to find anything) and she also told me the main branch is Smart Circle (which has a C+ business rating by the Better Business Bureau) and not much positive things were said about any of the places I found. So I called the manager back and asked about all the negativity the company/​companies receive to which I got told «It’s because we are direct marketing. It’s mostly people who didn’t make it in the company» nothing about owning up to the fact it could be disgruntled customers but she said that there were plenty of places where people have said positive comments (but wouldn’t relinquish that secret… wonder why).
Overall I wouldn’t bother with the interview; however if this is something that interests you, sign up to sell MaryKay or Avon.

This is why I love Unilocal — it’s great to see that I’m not the only one who has had a bad experience with this company. Foundation, Inc. is posting for marketing positions, describing the position as «sports marketing minded» and etc. This is not a marketing position at all, and like those before me have posted, it is a door to door sales position. You can go through their website and see the women’s make-​up that they are selling. I didn’t feel as if their job description properly represented what kind of candidate they were looking for.

Applied for a position requiring web developmental skills and was told of the door to door sales job. While a door to door salesman needs web designing skills I do not know.

Thank you for your posting’s I’m so happy I checked into this company. I had an appointment for Monday. I won’t give them the time or day let alone waste any of my money going for an interview.

If it sounds too good to be true… as the old saying goes. When will scammers learn?

Wow, thank you for posting your reviews up here! I had an interview scheduled for today and just canceled it after hearing what you wrote. This is def. NOT the type of marketing I want to get into.

I also agree with the last person to post Kate S., this ‘business’ posts on every job site daily with lines such as ‘sports-​minded marketing’, entry-​level marketing to manager training, etc… They fail to mention that you well be selling/​peddling womens make-​up (Victoria Jackson), and develop a pathetic story of a Beverly Hills make-​up artist who is ‘blowing out’ her promotional product for only $ 20.00! What a joke and scam.
They fail to mention the pyramid scheme, or MLM (multi-​level marketing) direct sales you will be doing door-​to-​door, or strip mall to strip mall stopping every single person that looks like they understand the English or even Spanish language. For every product you sell you make a commission of a whopping $ 7.00, while giving the campaign manager above you a cut of $ 7.00, and $ 6.00 going to the actual cost of the product. The only reason they encourage you to grow, and train your own team is so they can get more people selling the same worthless product and thus they are making more off of you and your team selling make-​up, classic pyramid structure. If you don’t sell, you go home with nothing and they want you stopping between 100 – 200 people daily trying to sell make-​up.
They go with make-​up because it gives them the highest margin I was told, but overall the dishonesty in their job postings is a joke. They should just be straight up with people that are willing to go door-​to-​door and sell a product vs. getting actual marketing and business majors in the door looking to start a real career. Being honest in the direct sales pitch would be way more respectable way of going about their business, I am not sure why they don’t go that route.
Watch out for any interviews or ride alongs, as you will see first hand how they will stop anybody who glances your way. BEWARE. The parent scam company is Innovage, feel free to do your own due diligence, and be sure to ask every question you can think of on the 1^st interview (but I wouldn’t even recommend that), they will try to force you into a quick decision to take the job, but don’t succumb to the pressure of their ‘5-​point sales technique’ as they try to close on you.

Foundation Marketing is posting a lot of jobs in careerbuilder/​monster-​type sites and is anything BUT a marketing company. I am looking for a marketing job and sadly stumbled upon this job posting. I went on the second interview and it was following a «trainer’ to strip malls in el cajon going in EACH business… strip mall by strip mall… selling a promotional make-​up kit. If this is the DIRECT SALES job that you are looking for than great, this is it. However, if you are looking for MARKETING, this is not it. The goal of this company is to move up to trainer in 6 – 9 months however why would you want to be a trainer and train people to do something that is completely misleading and not marketing? The ad for the job was very misleading and the first interview was as well. My advice is to ask sooo many details questions in first round interviews such as: will I be walking door to door? Is this direct sales or marketing? Good luck job hunters… Im right there w/​ya and dont want anyone to be mislead and waste time!
