Furs by Graf is a San Diego institution. A multi generational business that is run by a very nice family. Sadly, a business that has been targeted by extremist nut cases who think that they hold the only legitimate opinion on the subject. If you don’t like or agree with fur coats then go shop somewhere else. If you want a coat, a repair, or storage than this is the place to go! Kim does an awesome job and knows what she is doing. Kim decided to downsize and stay in the business, thank goodness!

So happy to see that you are back! I have been storing my fur with you since I bought it in the 80’s. Since I store it each year and you take such good care of it I haven’t needed to replace it. You were also able to update my fur with a few alterations. Which saved me money and the lives of minks! Thank you for your much needed services!

I believe in the concept of agreeing to disagree. I like fur, I buy leather goods, I eat meat BUT I respect the views of others, which many are my friends, that do not agree with fur use. I just heard a story today of someone who inherited a few furs, and though she doesn’t believe in fur use, admits that they look fabulous on her and feel incredible on. Sadly this iconic business is shuttering their doors after 80+ years. It is run by a wonderful family I just became acquainted with because of the retirement sale and though it may not be San Diego style so much anymore(doesn’t really get cold enough) as it was in the past. Furs are not in the dinosaur era yet. You don’t have to be part of the rich community to own a fur, ghetto or a Kardashian. The right fur or touch of fur can be amazingly elegant. I was blessed to be given a vintage mink stole for my birthday and a lovely vintage jacket for Christmas that are once in a lifetime bargains and I will wear them proudly. If I had the financial means there were several other pieces I would have purchased without blinking. The quality is amazing and I am grateful to have a little bit of San Diego history. Though time is running out, if you are so inclined do go see them and find yourself a quality treasure.

Once upon a time the thought of wearing the fur of helpless dead animals was looked upon as some sort of status symbol. A few out there, like ghetto rappers and the Kardashians still think it’s cool to stay warm with fox or mink fur. Lots of older ladies from the more prosperous parts of town might still have a stole or fur coat in their closets or storage. I know my own mother had a mink coat that she was very proud of. However, the La Jolla Light is now reporting that Furs by Graf will be closing it’s doors in 2014. The store is now featuring a «Retirement Sale» and after 84 years in business, San Diego’s only furrier is calling it quits. Furs by Graf receives 3 UnilocalSTARS due to the fact that they are a well-respected business that has offered it’s retail services since 1929. They have been longtime members of the Better Business Bureau & have a good reputation in the area. However, just as humankind has evolved over time to realize that the way things have been done previously has not always been in the best interests of our relationship with nature and our fellow creatures. With a few exceptions, whales are no longer hunted worldwide and killed for their blubber. Scientists go to great lengths to protect declining species and restore natural habitats to allow decimated populations to come back. Buffalo are not hunted and slaughtered for their meat and animal abuse and mistreatment is considered a crime. Why should things be any different for the furry creatures who happen to be clothed to keep warm to survive in hostile outdoor environments. Furs by Graf is a dinosaur. I think they realize that. A well-run business that has flourished for many seasons has nothing to be ashamed of. But a business that celebrates the wearing of fur that is culled from the painful slaughter of innocent animals is. The caveman days are over and it is time to ditch the fur. Farewell to Furs by Graf.

Basically I Wouldn’t come here unless your interested in Buying a Fur. I came in asking them to attach fur from a mink chocker to the collar of a black coat. I walked in and explained what I wanted done I was told I had«bad leather» which made no sense and was sent away. Luckily for me I found Millard’s Fur service who with the same coat and Mink Chocker did exactly what i wanted and gave me a beautiful coat. If your interested in Customization of a Fur Coat or restoring a coat I Would go to Millard’s Fur Service. Millard’s has excellent service and Expertise. Fur’s By Graf I found to be rude, unhelpful, and rather useless.
