Delicious food(guac and grilled fish tacos) and wonderful staff. Whitney, the hostess, then the water lady was BOMB! Very friendly and appropriately attentive.

Galaxy Taco. Probably not a repeat for me. At night, they definitely want you to skip the tacos and order the more expensive entrees. But we were feeling like rebels and ordered tacos. The Chicken Adobo taco was done in a kind of a watery mole sauce. not much flavor. The white sauce on top kind of saved it. But what wouldn’t be helped by white creamy sauce? The taco was good protein, that’s about it. The Fried Baja fish taco was probably the best thing we had, although it could have been a bit crunchier. The flavor was good. Skip the chips and salsa. They have very grainy, gross tortilla chips. The worst kind. The kind you say, «oh damn, that kind» when they come. And the salsa in the squirt bottles is way better than the«grilled», acrid tasting salsa they have on the menu for $ 4. Did I mention we got our beer for dessert? Our waitress was so slow, our food came and went before we got our beer. The place was dead, too, so I’m not sure why. $ 60 bucks later, I can safely say I’ve had way better food at a truck.

Everything is SOOOO spicy. I like spicy things, but WHOOOOAAA! Things were super spicy here. They were kind enough to bring out a second dish for me that didn’t have spicy stuff on it. The food was just okay after that. The service was a little slow, but it was okay, since they brought out chips and queso for us. It was cold outside, but they had heaters, and they gladly turned them on for us.

Cute spot, the food wasn’t amazing– but the décor and service made this spot somewhere that I’ll definitely come back to.

Not sure what all the rave is about. Go 2 minutes down the road to Puesto for a better option. We found the food over priced and for a place that boasts tacos, there’s a whopping 4 – 5 options for tacos on the menu and that’s it. I also have an issue paying for my chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant. I’d go here for a drink but that’s about it. Positive: homemade black corn tortillas. Cons: mine was burnt and the quesadilla was extremely bland. Glad we tried it, but will not go back.

Me, Mom, and Dad were staying at the La Jolla Shores Hotel overnight, we were hungry and looked around the boardwalk for food, the Mexican restaurants were all closed, we checked out Piatti but we already had Italian food for lunch(pizza). We found Galaxy Taco across the boardwalk and seemed like a good place to eat dinner. «Modern Mexican Restaurant And Bar» seemed stupid because most Mexican restaurants are modern and you don’t need to point it out! When we walked in, the staff was very friendly and offered us if we wanted to sit at a booth and get a free drink, Mom ordered the birria and salad, Dad ordered the tostada, and I ordered 2 grilled steak tacos with cilantro, for our drinks Mom got sprite, Dad got lemonade, and I got tamarindo, it took at least 25 minutes for our meal to come. First let’s get to the food, the meat was ok, it was undercooked, it had a lot of fat, but it had some flavor which was good, the tortilla was ok too, it was a bit crunchy and cannot be enjoyed at times, I like the fact that the tortillas are blue and that they are non-gmo. Now to the drinks, the tamarindo was full of plump, I would literally puke every time I had a sip, oh yeah, besides that, they said we would get a free drink but charged us extra for a water, Mom thought her sprite was good, I exchanged my drink for a sprite and took an extra 25 minutes to get it, I forgot to mention, the noise level was extremely loud, I couldn’t even hear what the waiter was saying, back to the point, my sprite was pretty good and was refreshing, Dad tasted a difference in the lemons he was tasting, he asked the waiter if it had real lemons in it, and the whole time it was syrup, it sounded so disgusting when you mix artificial lemons and syrup together, uuuuuuuuuu, I don’t even want to think about it! Finally, to our surprise, our receipt showed a payment of about 50 dollars just for a little meal! This restaurant is below average and too overpriced! So, no I would not recommend this to a friend, and I will not eat here ever again.

Mediocre fish tacos, well below Rubios(but good tortillas). Bland salsa and gauc. 3 stars if the price were like Rubios, but because it is 3 times the price, they get 1.

The steak tacos had such amazing flavors. Sebastian and Marissa provided the most amazing service. Love the Latin/Spanish atmosphere.

I love this place. The food is delicious. The Birria steamed clams where every Mexican seafood dram! To the people complaining about the six dollar tacos lets just remember this is a establishment a restaurant, not a roach coach! And you are also in prime location of la jolla… only complaint. The flan is the hardest flan I’ve ever had. You should rename it flan flavored cheese cake. Flan is soft jello like this was none of that :) I’ll be back to see if you rectify the flan situation.

Came here with a group of 5 people. There’s indoor and outdoor seating available. Cool décor and environment. We ordered the following: — pitcher of margaritas(3.5÷5). Pretty strong and serves about 6 glasses. Not my favorite margarita but it did the job. — guacamole appetizer(3⁄5). Nothing spectacular to rave about, pretty average. Really small portion size. — mahi ceviche tostada(3.5÷5). It was fresh but felt like it was lacking something in flavor. — michelada steamed mussels(4⁄5). One of the better tasting items we ordered. Broth was seasoned well. — grilled blue corn quesadilla(4⁄5). Very interesting blend of flavors but it worked well. — Baja fried fish taco(4⁄5). The best taco we ordered but you can definitely get a much better fish taco elsewhere in San Diego. — carne asada taco(3⁄5). Again, nothing special. — we ordered all 3 desserts to share: flan, tres leches, and churros. Didn’t think any were worth the calories but if I had to pick, go with the churros. The environment is cool but for the type and quality of food, it is definitely way overpriced. Probably won’t be back.

Came back here again since it is a minute walk for us. Lunch was quiet today due to the rain. Our server was Marissa and she was really sweet. FOOD When they first opened, you got complimentary chips and salsa as you say down. Now, you have to actually order and pay for them if you want it. Tacos are still pretty tasty but still overpriced. $ 5.5-$ 6 for small tacos are not worth it here. Today, I tried to queso fundido w/chorizo. Terrible dish! There was no flavor, incredibly bland, and not to mention greasy. The cheese seemed burnt. I’m all for burnt cheese but this was burnt to black where it was bitter. It was really small and it was like digging for treasure to find any chorizo. Stay away from this dish! We only come here for the convenience but you can get better tacos for a great price elsewhere.

We haven’t even left yet and I’m writing a review! Josh, the bartender, is absolutely amazing! Great customer service, always checking up on us, and made by FAR the best damn Margarita I’ve ever had! He really nailed the experience for us, and we are extremely grateful. The décor was great, and the food was pretty good as well. We will definitely be back thanks to such amazing service and drinks! We are interested in checking out more of the food next time(thanks for the recommendations, Josh!). Cinco De Drinko was an absolute success! Could not have had a better start to our day. Party on! See you next time!

I’m starting to think people who use Unilocal are a little bit insane. I’m so sorry Galaxy Taco for all the people who don’t understand the difference between a $ 2 taco and $ 6 dollar taco. I would think eating said $ 6 taco would prove the point, but apparently not. I love you, Galaxy Taco. This is my love letter to you. Your home made tortillas are brilliant. Your mussels are perfection. Your pitchers of margaritas may cause me to embarrass your waiters(Justin?) a little. Totopos are worth writing home about. The pork shoulder brought me to tears. I like the creamy dressing on your cauliflower salad. I love your pickles. My only request is please please make your homemade chips available on the menu(like with guacamole or salsa.) Even the vegetarian avocado taco had me ordering seconds. When we are full, we order churros to go and eat them on the beach. Please don’t ever leave us, Galaxy Taco. xoxo. PS: I have not received a freebie for writing this review, but I would be happy to ;)

Came here on a Thursday and it was a cold night in La jolla. This beautiful eatery is an indoor /outdoor open air seating. No heater inside. Anyway it’s very casual dining. Decors inside are cute and entertaining. Day of the dead vibes. Very colorful Mexican vibes! We ordered chips n Guac $ 10 salsa $ 2(chips are free refills oh wow) Brussels sprouts $ 6 cauliflower salad $ 14(was good) Mary’s chicken was $ 25 Kids meal quesadilla $ 9? and 3fish tacos $ 16 chicken taco $ 5.50 Drinks — tequila(death starr)$ 14 Horchata &tamarindo $ 9.50 Overall for the food I think they were fresh and good quality and very creative but for me it turned out to be only mediocre. Sorry! Just meh ! Customer service was okay almost messed up our bill good thing we checked. And we were shocked lol! And oh we asked the server for forks n napkins and the wifi code please for the kiddos ! But He never pay attention! This location is few blocks from La jolla shores. Check it out guys! But kind of pricey to me.

I don’t think I can convey how happy a rainy day makes me feel. It’s even harder to express that happiness when that rainy day falls on a weekday that I have free for lunch. I hadn’t heard much about Galaxy Taco in La Jolla but was game for trying them out since their menu looked interesting. They are located in the La Jolla Shores area and even have a small private parking lot. Chef Trey Foshee, of George’s at the Cove, is owner of Galaxy Taco so that was another incentive to try this restaurant sooner than later. I didn’t realize Galaxy Taco was a full service restaurant. I thought it was an ‘order at the counter’ kind of taco place for some reason. The waiter brought out bottles of salsas and a container of sea salt. We ordered: Birria Steamed Clams $ 13: — I was excited about this dish as I love steamed clams. Unfortunately, the birria type broth was very thin and under seasoned. I was imagining a thicker sauce — a thicker birria type stew sauce I suppose — but the liquid used to steam the clams was remarkably bland. The clams tasted a tad over steamed and dipping the clams in the broth didn’t help much. The slice of thick bread seemed to be brushed with the birria broth(see the orange color on the bread) and then grilled. Sadly the bread was burned. Beer Marinated Steak $ 6: — I don’t know if one taco could ever be worth $ 6 as it is here at Galaxy Taco. There is a decent amount of marinated steak on this taco. The steak was tender and flavorful. The freshly hand made blue corn tortilla was nicely warm and easily pliable when folding up the steak taco to eat. The micro greens and tomatillo salsa made this for a beautiful bite. I particularly liked the pickled vegetable salsa(see the orange specs in the picture) which I’m pretty sure had crunchy carrots. There was a wonderful spicy kick to the pickled vegetables that I enjoyed. Birria de Res, Carnitas, and Beer marinated steak tacos: — Friend ordered these tacos with the toppings on the side. He liked the carnitas taco the best. The tacos were $ 6 with the exception of the carnitas which was priced at $ 5.50. Service was fine and I felt Galaxy Taco had a nice relaxed vibe. The food quality was admirable but the price point is a bit steep. They have a brunch menu that piqued my interest so perhaps I’d return to try them out on a Sunday. Regardless, this was a fun meal with a fellow blogger on a beautiful rainy day.

This is where they walked This is where they swam Take a picture here Take a souvenir R.E.M. — Cuyahoga Rain falls down. Droplets plop on my face. As water runs down my face the years wash away. I work across the street as a webmaster for an internet startup. Lunch time was spent walking to the beach and watching the waves and breathing in salty sea air. Raindrops create ripples in puddles, more years wash away. I’m learning to ride a long board with bikini girls from UCSD. Water is freezing as I fall off and I’m submerged in the surf. Fresh scent of rain is in the air. I’m pulled back to the present by the smiling hostess watching me mesmerized by falling drops of water. Staff is very friendly here. Waiter talked about the how they make their own corn tortillas here. I tried 3 tacos. My fav was the carnitas taco. Tortilla had a mild corn flavor that didn’t distract from the tender, juicy carnitas. Loved the spices used to marinate the carnitas. My second fav was the carne asada taco. Meat was overflowing the tortilla. Beef was very tender and juicy. Different spices were used to marinate the beef and the flavor was really good. Birrea de Res taco was also tender and juicy but I’m not a big fan of the flavor. $ 6 per taco is a bit high but the quality of the ingredients was excellent. 3 of them were a big lunch for me. This is a pleasant spot to eat tacos and watch falling rain.

Came here for my sisters birthday! Very cozy place. Got the fish, chicken adobo, and sweet potato tacos(okay); chicken enchiladas(very good!); guacamole(was okay); homemade salsa(amazing!). Hopefully to come back here soon to try more items. Desserts were okay. Most likely won’t be ordering them again anytime soon.

The most favorite part of dinner at Galaxy Taco from Chef Trey Foshee(of George’s at the Cove) was the Tacolandia taco and the service from Johnny. This last weekend trip to San Diego, I realized that San Diegans are so much nicer people than Angelenos. I had encounters with some locals and felt that I haven’t felt like this since my trips to Utah and Texas. The Tacolandia taco was so good, I had to order another one! Inside the handmade, non-GMO tortilla was super moist carnitas and crisp chicharonnes. I said to myself that this taco was one of the best tacos I’ve tasted. I also ordered the carne asada taco out of a recommendation, but was a little bland«as is» without hot sauce for my taste. We also enjoyed for dessert the churros and ice cream. Absolutely delightful, but not quite as good at the pillowy, airy churros at B.S. Taqueria. Go for the attentive service from Johnny, the beautiful space, and the Tacolandia taco!

I stopped in on a rainy Sunday to try out this new spot near La Jolla Shores. It has lively décor and an unassuming ambience that I found very welcoming. I took a seat at the bar and struck up a conversation with the couple next to me. They had been here before and showed me the tacos that they ordered; Potato, Lamb Barbacoa, Lengua, Avocado and Fried Fish. they all sounded good but kinda pricey at $ 5 and $ 6 a piece. I opted for the Birria Clams. They are steamed and served with the broth from Birria de Res, a dinner entrée of beef short rib. Oh my, the clams were delicious! And I soaked up the broth with the sliced grilled bread they serve on the side. As for my drink, I had the Strawberry Shores. The bartender said it is a Rittenhouse Rye drink made from fresh strawberries daily. It was a bit on the sweet side and could of used a little more tamarind to balance it out. Overall, it was a nice food-venture. I will return to try out more menu items explore their extensive tequila menu very soon.
