The food here is consistently good. Ordered goto to go, it’s a rice porridge with tripe. All the food I’ve ordered from here is good. Will always return to this store for my Filipino fix. Try their macapuno pie, it’s on crack

Gemmaes… Ive been coming here for years. and im still a fan. Longsilog, tapsilog, tosilog… with garlic fried rice and 2 egg. YUM!.. although the prices have gone up– Id still come back for the said items. The garlic fried rice is cooked perfectly, with the garlic fried into the rice. BEST. Mostly ive been coming for Shanghai Lumpia. for potlucks. They cut them bite size too. 50pcs turns in to 100pcs. so now everyone at work gets a piece. about $ 20 for 50pcs. but the service is fast. so you can always count on them to get it ready when you need it. They have cakes, deserts, entrees… and a whole bunch of other stuff there. Go take a look. if you’re hungry. you’ll find something there to eat. Enjoy!

I give this place three stars just cause their pouridge is so delicious. They really are two star material. They’re lumpia is ok, I’ve had better. I call ahead, never works. I still end up waiting. I come here a lot for the same thing I always pay with my card. The cash rep lady now tells me that there is a 10 minimum to use your card. I told her I always come here and she’s never told me. It makes me question their integrity. The employees are always yelling at each other in Tagalog. All over the place. The cleanliness of the store is not the best. They could use some cleaning, that have chairs to eat your food there. I couldn’t sit to wait for my order.

So, I was starving at work and wanted to find a place that was open at 6am! I was searching through Unilocal and came across this place! I ordered the longanisa with eggs, garlic rice for a friend and the tocino with eggs, garlic rice for myself. I’ve actually had better Garlic rice. The longanisa and tocino were pretty tasty, but that garlic rice though… I don’t know… it tasted burnt for some reason… and certain parts of the rice was crunchy and hard, like it had been sitting there for awhile. Mehhh… but they do have fresh baked breads, desserts, pastries, and all that yummy sweetness which I will try next time. Overall, I’m just glad this place was open that early!

I come here every now and then mainly for the lumpia shanghai. I get them by the tray whenever I had relatives/friends come to our house or to share with co-workers at the office. If you are looking for lumpia in San Diego, this is the go-to place. I also liked their pancit malabon, and I order to take home and without the cabbage. At home, I mix it with rice to add flavor to the rice. Hot pandesal is also ok. Do not expect a 4-star presentation when you go here. I gave them 4-star just for the lumpia.

I’ve been coming here since 2005. I came here today to eat brunch and ordered tortang talong, lechon kawali and monggo. Oh my… the tortang talong is very cold as well as the lechon kawali. I asked the cashier, why they were cold. I even showed her the meal, she touched it and did confirm that it was cold. She said, «they cook them ahead of time because people order those a lot». This is actually the second time that I was served a cold meal. The last time I ordered the Tocilog and it was served very cold too. It looks like a leftover from yesterday. I didn’t write a review that time because i believe in giving the business a second chance and came again today. The cashier told me that next time I come here to tell her that I want it fresh. I really feel that if you are paying $ 16+ for your meal, at least serve it with quality(not cold). I also waited for at least 15 to 20 minutes before I get my order, so disappointed that it’s cold. Even the other«turo-turo» restaurants in the area usually cook their menus ahead of time but they still serve their meals hot/warm. I just hope that the management read this because serving cold food is a big No No and not in accordance with the public health food and safety guidelines. I also agree with other reviews here that their food is greasy and expensive. The 2 stars are for their pandesal, turon and other pastries. I don’t think I’ll come back and eat here again. Such a waste of $ 16. I could’ve went to a nice restaurant for that amount of money.

This place has great food! They actually cook it when you order so it’s fresh! Unlike the other Filipino restaurants they have their food out all day under a light to keep it hot… But gemmae always has freshly cooked food! The only things is the wait so I would recommend you to call and order instead of ordering there because the wait is long but for me it’s all worth it.

This review is for their food. I ordered the lechon kawali with accharo and rice for $ 7.50. The boyfriend got chicken adobo with mixed veggies. For such a high price and long wait for preparation, I was expecting something really tasty. Instead, we got ripped off! You get a huge serving of rice with just 6 small, burnt pieces of lechon. They were too hard to eat! The adobo had way too many bones in it! There was hardly any meat! DON’T COMEHEREFORTHEHOTFOOD. The baked goods are okay but there are better varieties in mira mesa than to settle for this crap.

FILIPINOBREAKFASTSERVEDALLDAY! After a long night shift at work my fiancé’ knew of a perfect place to get brunch. Gemmae’s was exactly what I needed. This place is a small bakery with lots of delicious Filipino food, snacks, and drinks. I ordered tosilog breakfast and my fiancé the daingsilog breakfast and calamansi juice. The tosilog comes with 2 scoops of garlic fried rice 2 eggs(any way you want). The tosilog is very authentic. Just the right amount of sweetness. And the portions are enough for 2. I could only eat half but was happy to save the other half for later. The calamansi juice wasn’t homemade but still refreshing. Not only do they have breakfast but other lunch items as well. That would be another time for me to try. I can’t wait to come back and try more yummy Filipino food.

This is a hole in the wall place that sells baked bread, filipino food and a few desserts. I was craving filipino food one morning and wasn’t feeling to good to make my own food so I decided to just pick some up for take out. First off, I love filipino food and I know that it does not cost almost 9 bucks to make a silog. I ordered the Tapsilog and Tocilog which were about 8.95 ea. Second, I was Pretty disappointed not only with their prices but the quality. Both the tapa and tocino were fatty with not much meat. The eggs were sooooo greasy. Lastly, their prices on the board aren’t the correct prices. False advertisement! I’ve had way better filipino food at other filipino spots in the same area. I don’t think I’ll be coming here again. Don’t come here unless you’re ok with eating fat and grease and getting ripped off.

I’ve been coming here ever since I was little. Breakfast or lunch. My parents are regulars and have become friends with the workers so they kind of know me too. Watched me grow up haha. Anyways to the food… EVERYTHING is always soooo good!!! Tapsilog ALWAYS on point. But sometimes there is WAAYY too much oil in it. Like the meat and egg are just sitting in a pool of oil but that doesn’t really bother me. Just dab off the oil with a napkin. I absolutely love their fried calamari! A must try if you go to gemmaes! I’ve pretty much had everything on the menu and it rarely disappoints me. Gemmae is the way to go!

I’ve been coming here for years to buy cakes. Every year I come here to preorder a cake for my Grandmother. You can add a photo for an extra $ 15. $ 15 is a little steep for the quality of the picture BUT, you can email them the picture and they print it and put it on the cake. They almost always remember me & my mother when I come to pick it up. Everyone is super friendly. Their cakes are chiffon. My family always gets half mocha, half ube/macapuno(taro root/coconut) flavor. It’s always moist, soft, and delicious! Their cakes are always a hit at our parties!

Authentic filipino dishes and ulam!!! They serve breakfast here all day as well. Fast, friendly service. Don’t come here if you’re on a strict healthy food diet, or you’ll regret it because you WILL eat good food. Lots of good food. One of my favorites here is hot, fresh baked pandasal first thing in the morning. It reminds me of the times back home when I rode my bike in the morning to the local bakery to get hot, soft, delicious, fresh baked pandesal. Nothing beats it!

Easy to miss this little bake shop. Most folks don’t even know it’s a Filipino restaurant that serve real food(turo turo style). They offer combos and their menus vary so either call ahead or stop by to see their menu board. The only drawback is that you don’t know what the food looks like since they are all prepared in the back. But from my experience, all the foods I’ve tasted have been tremendously delicious and not greasy like other Filipino restos. Don’t pass on the pandesal and other baked goods. I think Gemmae’s carry the best breads/goodies in Mira Mesa.

And it’s you when I look in the mirror And it’s you that makes it hard to let go Sometimes you can’t make it on your own Sometimes you can’t make it The best you can do is to fake it Sometimes you can’t make it on your own U2 — Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own Jonalie told me to come here for lumpia shanghai. I go where she tells me to for good Filipino food. The minimum order of lumpia is 25 for $ 10. Perfect for 2 hungry patrons. They make it fresh and it takes about 12 minutes. Impressive how it’s super hot and not dripping oil. Those little eggroll like lumpia’s are so beautiful with the thin crunchy spring roll wrapper. I was amazed by how thin, flaky, and crunchy the wrapper was. Awesome burst of flavor from the crunchy wrapper and the pork and carrot filling. Jonalie was right. This is the best lumpia in town! Too many other places have there lumpia just sitting around losing their crunchiness by the minute. I ate about 12 of them for lunch and I was stuffed. Gonna have to find a friend to get hooked on the lumpia here… Can’t eat 25 on my own… Send me a message if you want to be my lumpia friend. Sometimes you can’t make it on your own…

Here’s what I’ve learned from Filipino restaurants: there is no concept of «just a little bit of rice». I wanted to try this place out for the first time. I was only going to get an empanada, but then decided to get a combo also. I got the tocilog and egg with a «little bit» of fried rice. They gave me A LOT of garlic fried rice instead. What’s worse is that I ate it all. It was decent. Haven’t had fried rice in a while, so even just a decent version of it in front of me will get devoured. There was a generous amount of tocino too. Needless to say, I cheated big time. It wasn’t all my fault though. They gave me all that rice! The beef empanada was pretty good too. It tasted as if they just made it. Hot, flavorful, and tender inside. I will definitely come back to try the chicken one. Update: Yeah, their empanadas are friggin’ good – both kinds. I may have lucked out both times I got them since they were fresh, but I suspect they have the best ones in the area.
