I have worked in the area for five years and cannot believe I had not tried this place before. I ordered the Carne asada chips to go and at first when I opened the box I was surprised how it was laid out. All of the items are not stacked which was kind of odd. After eating my Carne asada chips I kind of liked the way it was served. I was able to get a little everything on the chip since I put it on myself. The guacamole was wonderful, some of the best I have had from a taco shop. The meat was flavorful and cooked perfectly. The crema was awesome. I even had a coworker come to my desk and tried my food. She immediately called in a order and ordered lunch. The food was that good. If you are in doubt about this place, don’t be. It is worth the visit.

I can’t believe we completely missed this location until recently. It’s the same menu as their other location by Clairemont and should I dare say maybe even a tad better?! The usual order would be surf and turf burrito with pastor, del mar burrito and/or 5 extra crispy rolled tacos. We have never been disappointed at this location and of course how can you when they also offer free chips! If next door is busy with crappy wait time, this is our default spot. Two thumps up, for sure!

My go to spot for their Chicken soup. When I’m not feeling so good their soup always hits the spot and gets me back on track. Plenty of chicken and very filling. The perfect amount of heat and spice to kick any colds butt. Highly recommended

I think this is the closest Mexican place from work so i gave it a try and ordered carne asada french fries. The place was just typical and my order was just ok, meaning it’s not something I would rave about. Me and my coworkers still finished it though out of cravings and maybe hunger from working 10hrs LoL but maybe next time i’ll try the burrito.

Our go to spot for Mexican food in the morning! The food is fresh and the portions are generous! I’ve had the tacos, chile verde burrito, albondigas soup! All tasty and amazing

Instant 5 stars because they have the Pina juice from the fountain… Its amazing. The portion sizes are massive, the food is authentic and the prices are cheap. I could get crazy and talk about the savory seasoning on the Pastor but I’ll spare you the elaborate version of a Unilocal review and leave you with this… If your within a 5 mile radius drive past all of the other Mexican food joints and come here. Its small but legit

Don’t let the lack luster appearance ambiance hold you back from giving this place a try. I was in for breakfast and had a burrito the size of my head. Surprisingly the«free chips and dips» I had chuckled about appearing in other reviews were out for breakfast too. and you know what, they’re great! The salsa and other dips seemed fresh and very well done. A great little snack while you wait. My bacon, egg, bean, burrito was huge and very tasty. Save your coffee order for somewhere else though. I’m not too picky with coffee, but I had to dump the swill out and top up elsewhere. Communication with the front counter was difficult. He really struggled with English and had a hard time getting my order taken clearly.

This place rocks, period. Always has and still does. My wife works up in the area so we’ve gone here many times. Saturday we were in the area shopping so went here from dinner. HUGE quality portions — carnitas quesadilla and super pollo burrito. oh, man LOVELOVELOVE Free chips, salsa, carrots, limes, peppered onions, etc… all great. Friendly service… keep up the good work guys!

Good food. Service is decent. I usually stick to rolled tacos or beef tacos when I visit a new Taco shop and work from there. Enjoyed the food. Parking is a little tight depending on the time of day you visit.

I used to work right down the street and visited far more often that I would like admit. The Albondigas is one of the best I have ever had. Always fast and friendlier than most taco shops. I still swing by on occasion just to pick up soup. One order is enough to satisfy both my husband and me. All of the other standards are great too and I’ve never been disappointed.

Previously I would have given this place a four or five but due to changes in staff, I give it a three. I’ve been going to this shop weekly for about a year. There used to be one cook and one young woman working up front. The lady was one of the hardest workers I’ve ever seen. She’d know my order and always have great service. Well now there is an entire new staff. Now four people are doing the job of two but not any better. Not sure why the staff change but not a great move.

I used to frequent this place when I worked in Kearney Mesa. The pollo adobado is one of the best burritos I’ve had — in San Diego or anywhere. Definitely recommend Gualberto’s.

I been going to this place for years. The California burritos here are the best san diego that I have ate so far and it’s been years that I been here. You must try this place. Let me know what you think and try the salsa it’s pretty good with complementary chips.

A very nice surprise! I stopped eating burritos because of how they make me feel after but I’ve been craving a good California burrito. Got one and did the special on Mondays which is any burrito with rice and beans for $ 6.50. The rice had potatoes in it delicious, the beans were ok not great but the Carne was good and the potatoes inside were like home fries very nice. I was surprised how fast we got our food and they are very friendly. The salsa bar is great and they also have chips for you. These burritos are huge so you can share one so you don’t fall into a food coma. The place was clean and reasonable parking makes for a quit in and out for lunch. I will return my buddy got the Carne asada fries which were also huge and looked fresh! I would definitely come back!

Love this place! It’s right next to my office! In my heavier days I would come get a breakfast burrito here once or twice a week! The Carne asada breakfast burrito is the best! Now when I come in the mornings I get the Carne asada breakfast burrito hold the tortilla and cheese! Still amazing! My lunch time favorites include the carnitas plate, ceviche, and caldo de pollo. I am a sucker for a good caldo! They always give out free chips with order and there salsa bar(even though they only have three) is the best! I also sometimes just go and get a side of chicken as a snack! I know it sounds weird but it’s sooo good! The staff is always friendly! Let’s just put it this way … You know a Mexican restaurant/taco shop is good when you walk in and here are a lot of Mexicans there … This is definitely the case with this place.

I’m always on the hunt for great«fast food» Mexican restaurants. I was in the area so I read the reviews and thought I would give them a try. The parking is fairly limited as they share a small lot with several other businesses. There’s ample seating and service was quick and efficient. The menu is quite extensive with many different items to choose from beyond the standard Mexican food menu. I decided to try something new based on the many rave reviews for the Adobado Pollo burrito. I rate burritos on quality, price and quantity; not necessarily in that order. This burrito passed the rating on all three. In this case, quantity first, quality and price equally tying for third. There was no second place winner in this competition. I really did enjoy the flavor of the Adobado chicken. I should have stopped with the burrito, but I do love a great chicken taco and so… since I was already there… I thought I should give their chicken taco a try. Disappointing. The taco shell was not fresh and the taco was seriously lacking the anticipated abundance of fresh, crisp, shredded lettuce. I have provided a photo to illustrate. The flavor of the chicken was nothing special and it greatly benefited from the red sauce, which by the way, is excellent! They have a nice salsa bar and if they provide tortilla chips, it would be a great«chips and salsa» bar. I may give them another try when nearby, but it’s not a place that I would drive across San Diego to visit.
