On a Friday night, we made reservations last minute and we were able to get a reservation. We checked in at the hostess stand and went to the bar to wait for our reservation. We sat at the bar and met Sam(bartender). After sitting there a few minutes, we noticed other people having dinner at the bar and decided to just eat at the bar. Sam was very busy that night(restaurant week) but his service was great! The food was good(it was not hot, which is why I say ‘good’).

It didn’t appear like a child friendly restaurant, but I was pleasantly surprised. My children were given kid familiar food choices off their menu, and their drinks were kept filled, without requests. My boys recommend the lemonade, and the corn dogs. Our waiter Carl was attentive and very friendly. He recommended a nice red with my steak, which was a perfect pairing. I have no complaints. I recommended this restaurant. It was within a 4 min walk from our hotel which made it very convenient, and the food was delicious! Very satisfied, and content. Please visit with your family you won’t be disappointed! Have their 4 course meal, for the price and the quality!

This restaurant opened in 1970 and the décor reflects that era, the inside could use a redo. That being said everything else was stellar. Our waiter Raoul was very attentive and the food was awesome. The artichoke dip was one of the best in SD. I had the prime rib which was also excellent. They serve complimentary bread and butter that was to die for, I will be back sometime this year as baby bro and I go to a new restaurant once a week.

Overall rating is 93%, but Unilocal system it is either 80 or 100%. Time to update this system to 1 and 10 stars. Ok sis who has been layed up for 3 months had her birthday pick and wanted to try this. Other than me having to pay for lunch this was great. Raul our server was jolly on the spot. Great service, thanks Raul. The building is a little old but the setting is still nice. We both had the prime rib ordered rare. Raul said that it might be closer to med. rare and asked if that was ok before we ordered it. It came out really close to rare. the fries I had were good, but could have been hotter, my salad was large, good and served on a chilled plate with the dressing on the side. The bread was also very good. We also had the artichoke dip which was good, but the crisp garlic bread sticks it came with were to die for. My 21 oz prime rib was $ 21 and I think it was a bargain. We did forget sis’ cake though. WEWILLRETURNHERE.

of all 5 places i hit for sdrw this one impressed me. being a steakhouse junkie of sorts i hold the bar har and expect much from these places. i knew of hunters for a while been never stopped in yet till now. it was a thursday night about 745pm and i chose to dine in the downstairs bar/lounge area vice the upstairs bar area which is louder and more busy. only 6 – 7 other people were present with ost at the bar grabbing a drink and catching the games on the tvs. i went with the sdrw special menu and ordered the sirloin steak medium, grilled veggies, baked potato. i also got the shrimp cocktail app and the carrt cake dessert. the meal came with complementary rye break loaf as well which was warm and delicious! took about 25 minutes for my meal to come after the cocktail. the cocktail not bad but nothing impressive at all either. the entrée was pretty good. the steak was not quite what im used to at a texas road house or outback however. little bit fattier then expected for a sirloin cut. tasty yes just not was i was expecting to get. as a carrot cake freak i judge hard with this item. hunters did ok but this was not your classic homemade grandma made it kind of carrot cake. good yes but not rock your world good as i like my carrot cake to be. id come back to hunters again for sure. this was a fixed menu for the sdrw mind you so perhaps on a normal week night going to normal menu would be different? service is good, venue is cool, bar area is nice place to chill out with a glass of vino and savor a steak and catch a game. for $ 20 i got the most food and likely the best type of food IMO even if not quite to my expectation of quality steak. but again… im a steakhouse Nazi so keep that in mind.

Speed in for a late night nosh, what wonderful service, and excellent food. And even when at 9:30 the restaurant closed and we were still sipping on our dirty martinis, they never told us to leave and when we asked if they were closed they said yes but do not rush. KAT, our server was so personable very very enjoyable. I hope I got your name right!

Convieniently located in Mission Vally, Hunters is a long-established eatery with a pleasant disposition. Brighter lighting then the normal steakhouse movie theater level and jaunty wall hangings give it more of an Italian restaurant feel than a steakhouse. Bright lighting(to a point) is always welcome as it enforces higher standards of cleanliness and Hunters was very clean. Our party had the restaurant week menu — 4-course ribs for $ 30 and s sirloin for $ 20 with dessert. Food was fresh-tasting and prepared to order. Why three stars, you ask? The food, like the rest of the experience, was decent and competently made and the service met all expectations but I just feel like I am missing that +1 for an above average rating or the +2 for exceptional. Prices are fair.

*This review is only for the Restaurant Week menu* I made a reservation online assuming it’d be busy around dinner time, but my friend and I were seated 5 min after we arrived, despite getting there about 20 min before my reservation time. Our server brought us complimentary bread and butter(the butter was amazing — light like a whip and a different type of sweet than what butter is usually like), and we also had caesar salads while we waited for the appetizers to come out. I enjoyed the potato skins, although I wish they’d been warmer so the cheese would be more melted; the shrimp cocktail, on the other hand, was a measly plate of 3 :( We both ordered the prime rib, which was medium rare and bloody, just the way I like it. The edges were seasoned with salt, pepper, and herbs, but I felt that the center needed more flavor and dipped that in the Ruby Port au Jus and horseradish sauces. I had the potatoes au gratin on the side, which was unique in that they added onions into it, while my friend’s mashed potatoes still had bits of skin in it(I personally like potato skins, but if you’re not a fan, I suggest trying their other side options). The vegetables were the most lacking part of this plate, as they were bland and we had to add our own salt and pepper to season. Finally, we both had the chocolate cake drizzled with raspberry sauce for dessert. It was thick and very chocolatey, but not too sweet either. I had requested that they write«happy birthday» on my friend’s plate but because it was a small plate, our server was very accommodating with a birthday candle instead. Servers were efficient, coming by to check on us regularly and clearing away plates we had finished. Hunter’s has its own parking lot, but we street parked because it was full — luckily the street was very empty and we didn’t have to walk far at all. I did notice that the crowd was mostly older, so I probably would only come back for special occasions, but it was definitely worth what you pay during restaurant week!

Ordered a standard cut prime rib cooked medium-rare. It was on the rarer side but still tasted pretty good. Some others at my table also ordered the standard cut prime rib(but cooked medium) and both of theirs were noticeably larger than mine. I thought/was hoping the server just put in the smaller cut for my order but when the bill came, sure enough, I was charged for the standard cut. Wasn’t too thrilled about that. On another note, our server was decent and kept us topped off. The parking lot is tight and pretty small.

Suddenly craving for steak, and Hunter Steakhouse just pops up in my mind because i am keep driving pass by everyday when I go to school and work. I browse their Unilocal reviews while waiting to be seated. All pictures of food look delicious. I went on New Year Eve so they have special happy holiday menu. My hubby got Special Happy Holiday for his dinner course $ 53 which includes: soup(or ceasar salad or table salad bar), shirmp cocktail(3 shrimps), Filet mignon(7ounce) with lobster tail(pick 1 side dish: mashed potatoes, rice, bread, …) and dessert(you pick from their selections, it is various from chocolate to cheesecake). I go with all appertizer which are Shrimp Cocktail($ 10 — 6 jumbo shrimp/1 order), lamb chops($ 134 lamb chops), and trio hunter(bbq chicken(i think they marinated chicken breast meat with lemon, salt, pepper), Teriyaki beef(2 skewers, 4 cube of beef per skewer), Grilled shrimp(1 skewer 4 shrimp)) and all of them were placed on top of thin layer of rice. We got the food as I describe above, 1 glass of wine(8ounces), 1 hot tea($ 3.99), they will bring you something like small tea bad holder with 4 kinds of tea: orange black tea, english breakfast tea, chamoline herbal tea and last one i forgot with a small hot water pot, half and half milk, and a wedge of lemon. All cost $ 110.36 Food are really good. Meat is tender and juicy. Cocktail sauce for shrimp cocktail is a BOMB. Lamp chops is super good. I don’t eat beef so i don’t know how it tastes but my hubby said it was very good. Waitress is nice, helpful, fast, attentive, and no attitude with Asian is a big plus. :) Rice is too dry for me but it is just personal comment. Tips: ****$ 7 charged for split place entrée if you order only 1 dish and split it with your partner. ****Only 1 restroom Male/Female. ****9:45 is last call. Open til 10pm.

Hunter’s Steakhouse, known for its divine prime rib(not the official company slogan, but the reputation its held with longtime SD locals – and I’m talking about locals who are 50+), I was excited to finally try this heavenly piece of slow roasted cow rib. Our party drove to hotel circle and right off the freeway, sure enough the bright white Hunter’s sign lit the way for us. The parking is horrible so we resorted to parking on the street. The motel next to it has a parking structure, but it’s up to you if you’d rather pay to park and walk far than park on the street. I was not impressed with the whole establishment upon walking in. The interior is in need of a major face-lift. The ceiling looks dingy and yellow, the walls are dark green. or is it purple? Or is it black? I don’t remember because I was so disgusted by the dirty carpet. The service was so-so. Some servers were attentive, some were not, as with any other restaurant. I ordered a glass of their house Cabernet Sauvignon,(which I recommend you drink should you dine here) to go with my slab of prime rib. After chatting with my table for what seemed like an eternity, alas, our food arrived. Our plates were cold. The prime rib? We each asked to be served Medium and out came a hunk of lukewarm medium-well to well-done prime rib. The texture wasn’t right either and the sad thing is I can’t quite put my finger on it. It just didn’t taste right. I wasn’t being a diva either because my whole table didn’t enjoy their meal. Only one pal we had with us ordered the filet mignon and it was actually good, but also lukewarm. I ate as much of the meat as I could to kill my hunger pains. The mashed potatoes weren’t half bad, I just wished my meal were hot. After picking at our plates, our servers took our plates away and asked us if we had room for dessert… «CHECKPLEASE!»

I went to this restaurant my last night on my trip. If you’ve been to Outback Steakhouse and Black Angus, just mix the two and that’s about what you’d get. It has an elegant, ski-lodge sort of ambiance with a menu that has a mix of what you would see on a Black Angus menu with some of the items having a kind of Outback Steakhouse twist to them. The food was excellent and we had great service. The prices are about average for a steak dinner. I spent about $ 70(including tip) for drinks, appetizers, steak dinner, and dessert for two people. And considering the size of their steaks, I’d say this place is definitely worth the value in food, service and quality.

Hunter Steakhouse is our most regular go-to place when I’m craving for steak. We come here like 2 – 3 times a year. Their architecture is very unique, just like a cabin in the wood, as correlated to the name. They have pretty good selections of appetizer too. What we always order is the potato skins, but time to time we also order its calamari fritti. My favorite entrée is their Black & Bleu Ribeye, delicious and its blue cheese blends so well with the meat. Their portion is very generous, considering their prices are not bad at all. — They give you bread with its whip. — Every entrée comes with either soup(soup of the day or clam chowder for $ 1 extra) or salad(caesar salad or table side salad, which you can choose what you want, including the dressing). — Every entrée also comes with 1 side dish(mash potato, baked potato, steamed broccoli, potato au gratin, rice pilaf, and fried onion rings), plus some vegetables, except for Black & Bleu Ribeye. Personally, I’m not fond of their vegetables that come together with the entrée, but I just found out very recently that apparently, you can opt to replace their vegetables with another side dish. Also, when you come there to celebrate a birthday, they will give you a slice of cake(your choice) for free. Even if you can’t eat there, they will still pack it for you. So far, I’ve never experienced with any service issue yet. The only reason I don’t give perfection to this place is just because of the narrow space in their restroom. I do wish that if doable, they should modify their restroom so that it’s not so cramped.

I work at the hotel next door, so I’ve been here a few times myself, and I’ve also referred guests here as well, because of the close proximity to our location. Pros + I’ve personally always experienced great service. Bartenders are great at small talk, and the staff in general is very personable +They do food to-go! +Crab Stuffed Mushrooms are a must have for a starter. Very generous with how much crab they stuff in to the mushroom Cons + Building could do with some updating, but it doesn’t take away from the experience. Tips If you’re not a huge eater, the bar menu is definitely much more manageable portion wise, and the quality is still excellent!

Despite all the bad reviews on Unilocal,we decided to give this place a shot . Since this place had such a hype, we decided to celebrate the Boyf’s birthday here. Everything started out good. I called to make a reservation for 7 that same day and got the request. On the way there, 3 more friends decided to make a surprise arrival . So I went in and noticed all 4 hostess were behind the desk and they were chit chatting away. They looked up and saw me and didn’t even greet me. Coming from the industry, I felt that was rude. So I smiled and greeted them FIRST ! And then all of the sudden they want to be friendly towards me. Wait, last I checked THEY worked there, NOTME. LOL ! So I checked our group in and explained to them that we had extra ppl. they said they will check and see if there were extra tables available and get back to me. About 15 minutes later they came and got me and said if we were okay with sitting up stairs; No problem ! Then the host proceeds to tell me they are only allowed one check and there will be gratuity of 16%; Again, NOPROBLEM . Finally, we are all seated. Our server was really sweet and she was really pretty ! I forgot her name but, props to being nice and pretty. That’s all she was lol. She takes our drink orders, 30 minutes later, it arrives. Okay cool whatever. She takes our appetizer and food orders another 30 minutes later. So we’re all sitting there hungry AF and our server is so slow and unattentive ! An hour goes by, still no food on our table, our drinks have not been refilled, and I have not seen our server for over an hour ! Are you kidding me? I had to ask a different server 3 times just to get a water ! Fast forward to our food arriving and now waiting on the check was a whole different story. Ridiculous . I guess this place was known for their prime rib, but being the rebel that I am, I ordered the black and blue ribeye. I’m a sucker for ribeyes for the juciness, tastiness., and tenderness it gives. The one I received was nothing like what I described. It was tough and flavorless. Sad. The Boyf for the prime rib and order it rare; it came out well done. You shouldn’t name your restaurant«steakhouse» if you can’t even cook steak correctly. Oh, and my clam chowder tasted like Campbell’s, and the crackers it came with were stale AF . Overall, I dislike giving bad reviews, but the poorly cooked entrees, the customer service, and the ambiance just wasn’t pleasant. For the price, you would expect more. So, I’m warning you Unilocalers… Don’t give this place the benefit of the doubt like we did . 1 star for a bigger table for our extra ppl that showed up not on the reservation . 1 star for the shock top I drank and got buzzed off lol.

Tried this restaurant during San Diego Restaurant Week #SDRW and decided to try their prime rib, which is what they are known for… I will say that this place reminds me of a dated steakhouse that I would find in the Midwest. It was ok… let’s break it down: As soon as you walk in you get the feel of a steakhouse, it’s dark and packed with booths and tables. The booth we sat at was in the corner and I didn’t want to say anything at dinner, but there was a huge spider and a web hanging out in the corner. Ugh… that’s just unacceptable. But the food helped to redeem this place… the table side salad bar was a nice touch… I could choose all the toppings that I would want on my salad. I liked that it was made with just a little lettuce and then lots of salad toppings… just the way I like my salad! The prime rib was cooked how I like it… the rarest piece they could find. I was actually impressed by how rare this piece of meat was… very tender and tasty! It was way too much to eat! I ordered it with mashed potatoes and veggies. I just couldn’t handle all that food. Dessert…we took that to go, because I just couldn’t find any room to eat it. I ordered the carrot cake and ate it later that evening… and not more than 2 hours later this thing was dry. I don’t know if it was dry to begin with… but it probably was since it was in a box and in a bag not seeing much air or sunlight. Not sure why it would be as dry as it was unless it was old. The service here was great! Our server did a wonderful job and got us our food quickly. The parking lot made it easy to park but there is also a lot of street parking. I think if I could give this place 2.5 stars it would be more accurate. Not sure I’ll go back, but it was worth the stop to try their prime rib!

So my family having a banquet dinner here as I’m writing this review. The service is straight up ghetto. We’re celebrating my uncles birthday with a party of approximately 30 people. For starters, they don’t refill drinks, they don’t talk to you, they don’t even tell you that u can have your steak only one way… Medium. This is a freaking steakhouse, I want it medium rare! I talked to one of the waitresses and she looked at me with a big fuck you look. Whatever!!! We’re spending a good $ 30 per person. Oh chk this out, they bring two appetizer trays out, covered in foil and don’t say a word. The food is out there. So do we serve ourselves? Or wait? This is really ghetto!‘ Actually, I was thinking of having my huge company dinner here. Forget about it! I’m going elsewhere. The service sucks!

We came for restaurant week and it was either $ 25 or $ 35 for dinner. The meal came with an appetizer of potatoe skins or shrimp cocktail, salad, an entrée, and a dessert! It was such a great deal! I highly recommend getting the tableside salad where they mix the salad table side and you get to choose what you want on your salad. It was quite entertaining and delicious! My boyfriend ordered the petite sirloin($ 25) and I ordered the standard cut of prime rib($ 35). The meat was good. I ordered the mashed potatoes as my side and I have to say it was a-ok. We got each of the two desserts: chocolate cake and carrot cake. The carrot cake was a lot better than the chocolate cake. I’m only giving 3 stars because the service was a little slow.
