Ordered an acai bowl and was extremely dissatisfied. Watery acai, pinapple tough as rocks and overpriced. Had better at Robeks and Jugos de la Fuente around the block. Won’t go back.

So I’m on a juice fast… day 9 out of 30. I wake up this morning and my wonderful beautiful girlfriend had to leave without making me juice. I know, make your own damn juice right? Well, I’m not that talented. My first thought was… HOLYCRAP I’M GOINGTODIE. After working a few hours on willpower only, I gathered myself and I started wandering downtown in a lethargic daze guided by my iphone. I found Juice Joint. I walked in and saw a smiling staff member, who was obviously confused by my zombie-like behavior, and tried to focus on the menu. I randomly picked 3 juices to mix and sat. 3 minutes later I had my fix… now I’m going back again 4 hours later. When my 30 days is up, I’m getting a sandwich here… mmmmmmmmm sandwiches.

Vegetable juice may not be the most sought after treat in the entire world, but when you’re feeling ill it can be like a magic mushroom in the game of Mario Brothers. Juice Joint is the block in which to bust that magic mushroom out of. They’ve got a slew of vegetable and fruit drinks to get you back on your feet if your sick. The staff is extremely nice and their reasonably priced. No guido juiceheads which is what I orginally thought the place would have, but it’s great for a drink.

Cooling cleanse!!! They take care of you and know about the benefits of each juice, not just a typical juice bar, highly recommend if you take care of your body or want to start! :D

Fuck Starbursts! This is really where the juice is loose. These fellas are now my main squeeze when it comes to smoothies, acai bowls, and anything else that does my body good besides milk. It’s a tiny hole in the wall that you’ll probably cruise by before you find, but what they lack in space they make up for in menu size. Any combination of fruit you’ve ever imagined chances are it’s able to be ordered here. They even deliver to the downtown area, so if you’re lazy when it comes to healthy stuff you have the option of it being brought directly to your doorstep.

Having been here 3 or 4 times now, I think I can give a pretty accurate review. Though small, the Juice Joint turns out big flavors from their ample supply of fresh fruits and vegetables. The owners are very lovely and accommodating as well(for example they’ll bring your order out to the curb if you call ahead.) I really like the Mango Tarango smoothie, which is a blend of mostly mango and banana with some ginger and I think perhaps honey and yogurt. Not entirely sure, but it’s quite delicious and the spice notes from the bits of ginger really add a level of complexity you don’t normally get in a smoothie. The Coco Loco is also delicious. It is a pineapple and coconut concoction that will conquer your cravings for awesome just as well. I’d also recommend their fruit oatmeal bowls for a hearty and healthy breakfast. It’s a very liquidy style of oatmeal so fair warning if that’s not your thing, but it’s really really good. Also, if you’re eating in and the older woman who owns the place is working she will usually bring you out the ‘extras’ of your smoothie instead of throwing it away because she doesn’t like to waste it(which can be as much as an extra 50% of your drink volume depending on how it blends up. Awesome!) It’s in a very busy area, but it’s so small it’s very easy to miss. So make sure you look for it, and give the Juice Joint a try if you like fresh ingredients and supporting small businesses. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it better than the big juice chains.

OMG !!! The Che Che smoothie is a dream in a cup. Cherries, banana and coconut. Had a tuna torta here recently too and no surprise to me, it was damn good. This little place has ruling quality and the wonderful ladies that run it, they put much love into preparing each serving, be it a smoothy, fruit salad or torta, you can see they are there to really give their customers the best. If you work downtown or, you’re just visiting SD and you’re feeling like you need a cool, refreshing treat, pay these gals a visit, it’s worth the walk and the short wait. bomb ass smoothies that put Jamba to shame

This clean and tiny restaurant is ran by such a nice woman. Not only is the service great, but the meals are healthy and tasty! They will customize an order according to your needs so don’t be surprised if they want you to go into detail about your order. They have awesome wraps, fresh fruit bowls and a mean machaca burrito. No greasy, salty, and unhealthy stuff here. Definitly a place to go if you wanna feed your body right!

This place is really a two star place but gets the bump because of their location. I’ll explain. Being pregnant I crave two things fruits and tostilocos! Working downtown those two items are very hard to come by. The first time I went in there the lady was very nice and told me she could fix me up anything even if it wasn’t on the menu! Dirty lady! I’m pregnant! Ewww! I chose just to get some tostilocos. I ended up practically making them myself. She did pour the chips, cucumbers, and nuts onto a tray but I had to add the lime juice, tajin, chile and chamoy. Why didn’t she just pour all the ingredients into the bag like a regular person does? My second time was a little better. I asked for a pico de gallo w/oranges and cucumbers. That’s it. However the lady kept repeating my order to make sure it was correct. Then towards the end she asked me if I wanted orange juice to top it? HUH? No! Not on pico. Glad I caught that. Their prices are also pretty expensive compared to places in the south bay but I’m guessing that has to do with their downtown lease.

They employee’s use moldy cheese, rotten fruit, & veggies, and just cut out the edges, old bread, the meats are microwaved some are gone bad gone bad they just cut the bad parts and microwave the ones that look ok. They use syrup in the smoothies to add that sugar taste, but employee’s are told to not say, the flavored syrups are in the back. Employees are instructed to sneek in the back and put the syrup before you blend the smoothie, some syrups you can simply see. Basically a business run by family that is slowly going down, extremely poor food, bad sanitation habits when cooking and making smoothies. Overall low rating due to the fact that they lie about smoothies only containing fruit, very little frozen fruit is used for smoothies, as flavored syrups are used at large volumes but customers aren’t suppoused to know…

I was a little disappointed. Sure, they were friendly, and the bright posters were easy to find. You can even customize all your orders to the tee, with the man in front of me asking for an escomocha(sp?) comprising of 1 fruit and there was only 1 person working at the time(9am). But I wasn’t happy with the $ 4.55 price tag for my acai smoothie that was really a blend of acai and ice. What happened to the thick, creamy consistency that often characterizes the acai? Sure they used the freshest ingredients possible with«no» sugar but I certainly just tasted… purple ice. I’ll re-write a review once I go in again for their tortas or their fruit salads. You really can’t go wrong with fresh ingredients. They also talked about giving you the option to call in beforehand AND they charge a 50cent charge on your card if your order is less than $ 5. You know what I think it is? It’s Señor Mangos screwing me over and giving me high expectations for cheap fresh juiceries. I won’t settle for anything less.

I was with the boy, looking for pawn shops in the area. We thought we had found one but, it turned out to be a jewelry buyers. Oh well. I saw a sign next door for a fruit place. And, I’ve been craving a Mexican fruit salad for weeks now. The boy said, «Hey look! They’ve got acai bowls.» And, with that, we were in. This is a small and very clean establishment. The owner is a sweet, helpful and nice woman. Greg got the Che-Che, which I HIGHLY recommend. It’s a cherries, banana and coconut smoothie. And, it’s marvelous! I made my own lil fruit salad with cucumbers, jicama, watermelon and mango, topped off with chile powder, lemon and tamardino bits. SODAMNGOOD! For the price, this place rules! She even told me if I’m running low on time, to call in my order and tell her to meet me outside, that way, she’ll just bring my stuff right to my car! WTF? Who does that! She rules! This place rules! The Price rules! Juice Joint!!! … check it!

Was in the area, famished, saw the sign for Acai bowl. Following my stomachs demands I ventured in. Quaint little place, friendly service. and thanks to the reviewers below I changed my Sand which order to a Torta, very satisfied. Thank you Unilocal! I want to give Juice Joint 5 stars, but the Acai Bowl to go was a disaster. With Acai overflowing from the container, leaked everywhere.(Note To Miss Juice Joint: When you close the see through plastic container with the two outside tabs, if liquid pours through the seal, it will leak everywhere. Happy customer turn to unhappy customer when he/she look in bag. Thankfully my car has euro winter rubber floor mats else my plush gray carpet would be Acai Purple. Gotta say though, Acai here is very good, would just rather it be in my belly and not on the car floor

I’ve actually walked by this place numerous times and finally decided to give it a try yesterday. It was GREAT! What I love best about it is that it has a wide variety of juices. I ordered tuna and avocado torta + energizer juice. Really good. It’s small and narrow but the décor is very cute and colorful Mexican style. It’s great for a light healthy lunch. MUCHMUCH better than jamba juice, I have to say. It’s become my new favorite place now!

Always on the look out for a new lunch place in the downtown/east village area, I finally gave Juice Joint Café a try. I must admit that I’ve walked by this place for months before finally walking in. The café itself is ultra tiny and narrow, but for what it lacks in space, they make up for it in the quality of their smoothies, tortas and fruit salads. The $ 7.95 lunch combo includes a sandwich or torta, smoothie and fruit cup. Why go to Jamba Juice for a plain blah-berry smoothie? They have all sorts of interesting ingredients for various juices, shakes or smoothies. Why not try something with cucumber? ginger? or parsley? And for the health conscious they even have: wheat grass, oats, wheat germ, flax seeds, protein, flax oil, aloe vera, bee pollen, spirulina and açai. And for the less adventurous, they also have«safer» choices including: Berry Good [Strawberry, Blackberry & Yogurt] or Choco-Banana [Mexican Chocolate & Banana]. Last but not least, service was perfect! Fast and friendly :)

I walked by this place today and saw their ad for a torta and smoothie for $ 4.95. I love a good deal and to try a new place so I went inside. The owner told me they opened last Wednesday(a week ago on the dot). He recommended the tuna with avocado torta, which I ordered. Very good. Bread was toasted and tasted great. A little jalepeno was hidden and added some fun kick. The smoothie was something with orange and mango. It was good but nothing amazing. They gave me a free sample of a dessert, Tita’s Lemon Joy — it worked, I bought one of those as well. It’s good to have another healthy eating choice in this part of downtown.
