Brunch was served here today, while killing time for a movie, I ordered Chicken Daal and it was divine I also ordered the cherry blossom tea, so good… Def coming back again if craves arise again

Absolutely best food I have had in a long time. I ordered 4 sides including the orka in tomato sauce. AMAZING. I am sold. Its family owned and there alot of effort put into their food. Hillcrest seems like it took a turn for the worse. No cops out but alot of homeless. Its a shame because business like this place are suffering.

I had Khyber Pass Afghani food delivered to my hotel room during a work conference. The food was lovely – I’ll be honest, as of this writing, I don’t remember everything I ordered as it was a whirlwind week. Pretty sure I ordered the lamb pillau, and it was everything I’d hoped for. Super affordable and incredibly generous portions!

Great lamb chops with seasoned rice. Great place for friends and family. Large menu to choose from. No outdoor sitting. Reasonable price. Not noisy. Come hungry and go happy.

The service was great. Our waiter offered us helpful suggestions on the menu. The food was very good as well. My only complaint is that the portions were small relative to the price of the items.

The service was good, got seated very quickly. We ordered the combination platter and it is delicious! In fact it’s all quite delicious, the cherry chicken and curry lamb are some of my favorites. The food can take a bit to come out but with such good food you can’t help but understand. Love this place!

Afghani is the original fusion cuisine and Khyber Pass takes it to another level. The food is perfect from the texture of the basmati rice on up. Service was professional, perhaps just over to removed. The décor grates just a bit with over-representation of the famous National Geographic cover on the wall, menu, etc.

Me and my friends are visiting from D.C. We decided to stop by this place to get some afghan food. In comparison to other afghan restaurants I’ve been to in other states, this one was worst! The quality of the food was Awful. My friend ordered qablo palo and he he ended up chewing on rocks on 3 occasions while we stayed there. We had to ask them to bring water twice! We asked for the bill and they had already charged us their tip. what? Who does that? Lol We were extremely unsatisfied I would give it a one star but I at the end of our visit they did feed us something because we were abit hungry so that’s why I am giving it a 2 star.

Absolutely delightful experience. Mild flavors… low oil, low salt. Delicious. Very authentic. All three of our orders were cooked to perfection. Our appetizer was to die for(ground beef dumpling). Pudding dessert was another mild dish… very authentic, very good — not great, which everything else was. NOT a loud environment, which is a rarity these days… great acoustics… invites pleasant conversation. Warm and gentle lighting with subdued and beautiful artwork. Superb low-key, polite, and attentive service, although they could lose the canned soda at the table. Deserves to be Zagat-rated. Truly top-tier.

We’ve walked by this place many times and it always seemed empty compared to other eateries all around. Today at lunch was no different but we decided to finally give it a try. Out of about 20 tables only one other was occupied besides ours. Service was relatively prompt but considering there were only two tables to serve… A little pushy on ‘wine, beer, appetizers…’ It’s a Sunday lunch and we just want an entrée. Food fairly bland, garlic naan bread very blah and final price too high for what the meal was. Sorry to say but I don’t see the table filling up in the future. The Thai restaurant right next door has a better atmosphere, better prepared food(albeit different type) and much better value.

We wanted something different for dinner and came across this Afghan restaurant on Unilocal. When we first walked in, there were only a few diners on hand, so the atmosphere was quiet and conducive for date night and quiet conversations. The spectacular décor included a sidewalk dining area, large mural, thick tablecloths, and soft lighting. The aesthetics were the antithesis of other Afghan restaurants I had visited in the past. Since we were pretty hungry, the beautiful surrounding and the pricy menu only heightened our anticipation for an exquisite meal. The Garlic Nan($ 3.75) appeared like small bread sticks served on a small plate. The Nan lacked flavor, and was unexpectedly stiff and cardboard-like. Not something I would pay for. Not recommended. The recommended Borta($ 6.95) was very flavorful and delicious. The baked eggplant was soft and accentuated by a mix of ingredients that included tahini, garlic, lemon juice, and yogurt. Serving was small, but definitely our favorite dish of the night. The Khyber Pass Special Platter($ 22.95) came with lamb, chicken, beef kabobs, split peas, spinach, and three types of rice. Given the name and number of items included, we had the impression that the platter was going to be enough for two. However, the cuts of the meat were small, and it was really two skewers and not three as advertised. The seasoning was modest, and for the price, the quality of the meat could be better. The sides of veggies were tasty, and nicely accompanied by the choices of rice at the table. The price was steep and it was hardly a platter. Service was friendly and attentive in the beginning, but became sporadic once the food arrived at the table. Interested diners can expect a spectacular décor, cozy ambiance, but food portions and prices will not translate into the value you’ll find in other Afghan places. We will not be coming back.

Saturday March 19th I called ahead of time and made a reservation for two people. I had an out of town guest and thats why i made a reservation before I go there to make sure there is space available. When we entered, there was a guy who told us they have no space available. Despite the fact that I told him several times that we have reservation, he didn’t go to check my name and reservation. Then he offered us a very tiny space next to the door, my guest is a very tall guy and he couldn’t even seat there. The guy told us we have to either accept that space or leave. Unfortunately we had to leave. the host was not feeling sorry at all for the situation and seemed very happy to see us leaving and left me embarrassed next to my guest. What I didn’t like is that they did not even go and check where was my reservation and he clearly didn’t know where was our spot and clearly he didn’t make any effort to ask someone else in the restaurant to help us. So my experience was a very bad customer service. If I am in a restaurant business, I will never let my customers who have reservation leave.

My husband and i came to this restaurant after a long drive to San Diego and we decided to get some Afghan food. The food was pretty good. When we ordered the Kabuli pulau, I did expect more rice, but everyone serves their food differently. My husband loved the food very much where as I thought it was good, but not great. The reason why I gave it 4 stars is because I could not give it 3.5 lol. The only problem I had was our server was a little neglecting. What I mean by that is that she never came to check up on us, she never refilled out water, and she took forever to come and give us the bill. We had gotten so impatient that we had to call over another waitress to help us out. Our waitress came to give the bill, but she seemed very slow and not as friendly as the other waiters were.

Fantastic place fantastic food i called at 9:45PM and requested dinner and only thing I shared was that we have from India and we drove from Orange County they onliged us by reopening the kitchen. The chicken curry was the best and so was the vegetarian platter the hospitality was most appreciated Long live the friendship of India and Afghanistan.

I still can’t seem to like this place… Overpriced mediocre food. I try to keep an open mind but every time I come it just isn’t as good as everyone says it. We started with the garlic naan. Not sure if they changed it but it basically lost all Afghanistan flare and became to what we know as «breadsticks». It was garlic breadsticks, for some reason I always thought naan was flat… But maybe I’m mistaken Indian and middle eastern naan. But it was basically breadsticks. It was pretty bad… On to the entrée… At least it’s a little better than the garlic naan. I got the lamb matar and the flavors were good, except they had too much beans and no meat. My friend was like where’s the meat?! I think I got like 6 – 7 pieces. Disappointing… Especially for the price.

We’re visiting from Chicago and decided to try out this afghan restaurant. I came with my husband, mother, and three young children. In terms of kid friendly I wouldn’t really recommend this place. It’s a nice quiet place meant for teenagers and adults. I don’t think there’s a kids menu and the kids were served in glass cups. But I don’t mind. If your worried about that type of environment this place isn’t for your kids. In terms of food we got naan, both types of soup, eggplant dish, okra dish, and the combo plate which has chicken, lamb and beef plus the sides of rice, peas, and spinach. The soups were amazing!!! The best aush I’ve ever had! I strongly recommend them. It was everyone’s favorite dish of the night. The naan was good but not the best afghan naan I’ve had. The eggplant and okra were also delicious. Honestly everything was good but the combo plate with the meats was not the best afghan meat platter I’ve had. I prefer some other places I’ve visited in Chicago and Toronto. Definitely recommend the vegetarian options more in terms of my taste preference. Overall the food and service were good and I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for some good afghan food, especially that soup!!!

The nan bread is so delicious and the cherry tea is amazing. The décor here is upscale and the service is excellent. I tried the chicken tandoori salad which was excellent as well. This was my first time visiting here and I will be back soon. Try the samosas!!! Yum yum.

My boyfriend took me here for our anniversary, he was deployed in Afghanistan for awhile and wanted to share with me some of the amazing food he got to experience during his time over there. From the second we walked in we were greeted with smiles from, whom I could only think is the owner. She gave us recommendations on her favorite dishes and the more traditional dishes. We ended up getting the kebob special(with ground turkey, Chicken and lamp) and the lamb kebob plate. There was so much flavor in the meat it was incredible. The meat was cooked perfectly and I couldn’t have been more satisfied. I will definitely be visiting this place again and strongly suggest everyone to give it a try. Oh their pita and hummus was amazing as well!!!
