KOR Strength and Conditioning

I moved to North Park in August and had to do a lot gym shopping before I committed to KOR. What drives me to work out are small group classes, it was difficult to find classes I liked until I came to KOR. The kettlebell classes have great strength training workouts and the conditioning classes keep the heart rate up. The classes are fun, challenging, and adjustable from beginners to competitive athletes.

This gym is by far the best gym I’ve ever been to! It has everything you need to make it a top quality gym including kettle bells, dumbells, sandbags, rings, pull up bars, trx, weight balls, weighted sled, stretch bands, chained weight belts, jump ropes, barbells w individual rubber weight plates, benches, padded boxes, long thick ropes, stationary bikes, and a gigantic rubber tire. I might have missed a couple more things this gym has… because it has so much! Also, this gym has the perfect amount of space for the small group classes or if you wanted to do your own workout at any time. I’ve been at KOR now for about 3 months and it’s one of the most rewarding decisions I’ve ever made! I actually researched many gyms in SD before joining this gym. I also visited a couple gyms and actually worked out at them to see if I like them before deciding which gym was best. Thirdly, I researched the trainers at this gym, including their educational and licensure background… and…what they actually look like! Taken together, these are the reasons I chose this awesome gym! Any smart person who works out understands the value of training your core, as it is the foundation for many other movements we do. The trainers at this gym have been so knowledgeable, helpful, supportive, friendly, and funny! The people at this gym seem very nice, friendly, supportive, and non-​cult like. The group classes are so motivating and fun. It’s the perfect workout! I highly recommend this gym to anyone who wants to get in the best shape of their life! Thank you KOR!

Where do I even begin… KOR and the instructors are some of the very best I have encountered. I have extremely high standards for programming and coaches and KOR exceeds all my expectations. The programming is smart, effective and fun. The coaches are attentive, caring and know how to appropriately progress movements depending on individual’s abilities. The community is supportive and encouraging. I would highly recommend checking this place out. The coaches will meet you wherever you are at in your fitness journey.

I’ve been working out here consistently for months. I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been. The trainers here care about your personal goals and help you achieve them. Classes are different every time which mean you don’t get bored! They continue to push me physical and mentally’ There’s a great sense of community here too, which in my opinion is what sets this gym apart from others!

I used to think swinging giant cast-​iron balls through the air was crazy, but now I think the only crazy thing is NOT engaging in such activities.
I always struggled at the gym because I would get bored or not have enough structure — Kettlebell training at KOR gives just enough consistency and variety to yield results. Every trainer is awesome and has their own strengths and style; if you follow their recommendations you will 100% see results. Not to mention they are (literally) some of the best in the world, competitively.
I’m so much stronger, leaner, and generally fitter than when I started here, and that’s just going to three classes a week.
Give them a try, they’re not as hard as they look. Unless you’re talking about my buns of steel.

If you really want to learn the right way to do Kettlebells, this is the place to be. The staff is knowledgable and dedicated; they will make sure that your form is perfect so you don’t hurt yourself. I came here because I love kettlebells and had injured myself at a different gym. I took an introductory class with Brittany and am now doing personal training with Kristen – both instructors are excellent. By the way, I’d never signed up for personal training before, and while I am a goofy kettlebell enthusiast, I was nervous about the cost. I should not have been; its money very well spent. I am consistently challenged and I appreciate having an expert correct my form when needed. I love this place so much I keep talking about it at home and now my daughter wants to come here, too!

Going to KOR for the past few months has been a life changer. The classes are small. The coaches are some of the most positive, knowledgeable, and motivational teachers I have ever been around. They are always helping to fix my form. Going 3 – 5 times a week for 30 minute workouts has greatly strengthened my core and lower back. I always leave feeling great. Couldn’t recommend this place enough!

What an outstanding bunch of coaches in a great facility! I met Dan through a mutual connection and I am sure glad I did! He is and all the folks working at KOR are top notch trainers and are actively involved in supporting the community. Their equipment is great but the people are what really make this place special!

I have been personal training for past year and recently went to this gym to try something new and am so impressed with results. Brittany one of the trainers has been able to show me unique movements with kettle bells that work my core in ways I haven’t before and also I feel like I’m getting a great cardio workout. I also appreciate the fact that the focus is on good form and not starting you out with heaviest weights. I already feel sore in muscles I don’t usually use. Overall very professional staff and if you’re looking for something different yet still high intensity this is absolutely the place! Very impressed!

I have been working out at KOR from the day they opening the doors. They used to be in Mission hills where I lived.
Last Year I bought I house in Spring Valley and KOR moved to North park which is about 20 mins drive from my home. I could no longer go to my morning CIRCUIT class at KOR living that far.
I have been looking for a gym for the past year that is close to my home, and found many gyms. However none of them offer what KOR does, not even close.
Once you go to KOR so you will understand what I mean not only they offer great classes they also have AMAZING Trainers that will make the work out amazing and fun. In addition to the HUGE knowledge they have, the motivation to do better and try harder.
I am back, 20 mins drive is worth it. Try KOR you will be happy you did.

This gym is extremely clean, open fresh air and overall great vibe. I felt comfortable and supported which is important to me because I am a beginner to strength training. I am working with a trainer there named Brittany. She is SO awesome! Super strong yet very feminine which is inspirational to me. She is not bossy, pushy or aggressive. She knows how to get you going and push yourself to where you want to be without being the least bit obnoxious. So far, I am reaching my goals little by little and I know that this place is a big part of that. Go check it out!

Why go to KOR Strength and Conditioning gym you ask? Because it’s an awesome gym!!!
I met Kristen who was training and teaching the kettle ball and curcuit training classes at Undisputed in Point Loma and I was VERY impressed by her knowledge and exercise routines. She not only knows her stuff but she makes it fun and her routines are never the same. When you are training with her you are not only her main focus but she comes up with an exercise plan that works for your body. I’ve had lower back issues for many years and thanks to Kristen and KOR I am pain free now. Thank you Kristen!
I can’t say enough good things about KOR Strength and Conditioning gym. I not only am excited to work out with Kristen at the KOR gym but the people and members make it fun as well. I have seen results training with Kristen and doing the classes at KOR and for anyone needing a change in their workout or just wanting to try something new I say go for it you won’t regret it! I will forever be a member of the KOR gym =)

This review is bittersweet because I’m writing it as I end my membership at this gym because I relocated to the Bay.
After I came back from a 2 month work travel stint I was heavy, weak, and not feeling like a bride. Instead of feeling bad. I sucked it up and made it my goal to be fit, not skinny. After 3 months of training with Kristen, a Kettlebell competition, and a month of cutting back from alcohol (because that was inhibiting my training), by my wedding I was able to do 3 strict pull-​ups in a row and deadlift 2x my weight. Being 8 lbs lighter and 5 inches smaller was just another added benefit.
At KOR Dan and Kristen urge us to not make our goals esthetic (losing weight or inches) but instead make them about our strength and physical capabilities. I’m proof that those pounds and inches will disappear and complement your training régime. I rocked my wedding dress with strong shoulders and no bra fat!

I Love working out at KOR!
After years of competing as a D1 softball player, then cross-​fitting, my body was struggling with injuries. I needed something fresh and new – I wanted to find a gym that would allow me to workout hard and challenge me without beating my body up! I decided to give kettlebell training at KOR a try.
I took the plunge and joined. Two years later; I’m stronger and in better shape than I was in college. I think it’s safe to say that I’ve fallen in love with kettlebell training and all the benefits kettlebells offer.

I’ve been a part of all types of gyms over the years, and I can definitely say this is my favorite! No matter what your health or fitness goals, there is something for everyone!

What brought me to KOR Strength and Conditioning? Brittany van Schravendijk. She is one of the Top Ranked Female Kettlebell Sport Athletes in North America and a superb trainer. This woman is so fantastic, such a great instructor and motivator. I’ve never met anyone with such energy and enthusiasm for health and fitness as she has. The facility is spotless and so very versatile to suit all your workout needs. Also, if you want to learn how to lift kettlebells (for fitness or competitively) this is the place that will take you from Beginner to Advanced in no time at all. I highly recommend this facility as Justin, Kristen, Dan and Brittany will make you feel right at home.

Awesome workout and the prices are unbelievably low compared to other conditioning gyms. The environment is friendly and everyone works together to get a great efficient workout. An added bonus is the off site holiday workouts and get togethers. Dan, Kristen, Justin and Brittany are each armed with their own unique training styles so finding the right fit is not an issue.
They are always looking to expand their class offerings as well. Centered around Kettlebells from the start, they have added Action Sport conditioning, Kettlebell Sport training, and… wait for it… Mace training! That’s right. Mace training. With this kind of dedication, you are never worried about workouts becoming routine or boring.
HIghly recommend to anyone looking for great results while making great friends!

First things first, I’m not what you would call a supreme athlete. I’m active and I enjoy being fit enough to do the stuff I love (All-​Day Adventure Mountain Biking). I found KOR online after moving away from my previous Gym where the commute didn’t make sense. I was a bit intimidated at first: «Throwing around heavy kettlebells is scary!», I thought. As a clumsy doofus I was worried I’d injure myself and others, and that I would be out of place with sporting experts.
I setup an initial consultation via the website and had an hourish long one-​on-​one session where I was taught the basics. I was surprised to find that it wasn’t all about the kettlebell. While kettlebells are tools, there is lots of squatting, jumping, stretching, pushing and pulling up, and various other activities designed to make you sweat, heave, and generally shape you up.
It was also apparent from my first-​session on that this was not a super-​intense in-​your-​face style gym. Everyone is there to get a job done, but the juvenile macho-​theatrics are absent. This suits my style well.
This was about 6-​months ago. After my first consultation session I immediately started with a routine of 3 per week semi-​private training sessions. This is where KOR really shines for me. Here’s how my sessions work:
— Each session is ~ hour long and is tailored to my specific needs
— Each workout is different, and focuses on what’s important for me (mountain biking in my case)
— I get personal attention from a trainer, sometimes there are other people in the gym at the same time, 30% of the time I’m alone, the rest of the time there are 1 – 3 others.
— My workouts are split into roughly 3 seconds:
1. Warmup /​Stretch
2. Strength Training
3. Conditioning /​Tabata
With the semi-​private training I get all of the upsides of a personal trainer, without the downsides of epic cost. As other mentioned here, each of the KOR trainers do a great job with this — Justin has been my trainer thus far and my experience has been great. The overall value for the semi-​private training is enormous.
Overall KOR has been a great fit for me, and I have already encouraged several friends to join me in one of my sessions.
I recommend the gym highly, and suggest that you give them a shot with one of their no-​risk classes like I did.

I’ve been going to KOR since they had their location in Mission Hills. The new spot in North Park is just as good. Love the fact that I can take classes (versus monthly membersip) as I am a member at multiple gyms. The Kettle Bell cross training is a good way for me to increase my fitness when I am training for endurance events like long-​distance triathlons.
I also do the semi-​private training with Dan — he’s creative with the workouts and willing to tailor to my requests/​needs without letting me slack.

I have been recently getting into various cross training options and have been falling in love with kettle bells. I was lucky enough to check out a class with the world famous
Brittany van Schravendijk and her class was amazing.
The vibe of the studio was very welcoming and had awesome energy. The facilities were clean and everyone from the staff to the students were people you could tell were genuinely awesome.
I am going to be back to this studio and looking forward to getting super strong amongst awesome friends.
