It’s a good dive, a little aged, but for you hipsters, they have a couple dozen great beers in bottle. Barkeeps were nice, so were patrons.

Ok so before I met the girl I like I was kind of a man whore. Lancers was a easy place to bring a woman, grab a few drinks and then take a 2.50 über to my place. The vibe is super old school. I guess the hipsters think it’s trendy, idk. It’s clean, just older. Bartender was a hot strawberry blonde. Stiff pour and always made sure my drink was full. Lancers, thanks for providing us with 3 hours of late night fun once we got back.

Always a great place for the dive bar in us all. Never had a negative experience and the drinks are priced great!

Let me start out by saying that this bar could possibly be your best chance of reliving some kind of nostalgic episode from your past. The original attraction to the bar was that we found out that they have Pliny the Elder IPA in bottles. That said, they let us drink as many as we liked and played pool all afternoon on a Thursday. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip to San Diego this summer.

Im giving it two stars heres why; Asked the bartender for jaggerbombs… no. energy drinks… buchanas with pineapple…“what’s that” my reaction was –___– the bartender was nice and i did like that they had variety of games like pool, pinball machine, and a dart board. Good size bar but I’ll probably not wanna come back, they don’t have the drinks i like and its really far. Get more drinks and get a few Mexican bartenders up in there lol we are in san diego.,

When my bf wants to play pool, I will only go if it’s Lancers. It is a cash only bar with friendly bartenders. I can bring my dog when it isn’t too crowded which is a major plus. I feel comfortable in this space. There is an ATM if you don’t have cash and trivia on Sunday nights that makes for good entertainment.

cool divey bar where they make some strong drinks. Its a fun place to either start out or end the night. I like that they have pool tables, a pinball machine, and one other game to play. The vibe is a bit hipstery but you are hard pressed to find any bros or tourists here. The layout of the bar is narrow in the front with the bar, but you get the illusion of it being wider because of the mirrors that line the side. Then the back has the pool tables and the ladies bathroom, which like most bars is dingy and not too clean…

Went here to start a night of 21st birthday celebrations with my best friend. We went because it was walking distance from my house, and felt a little out of place a first. But the drinks were great and we had a blast playing pool. Everyone was really nice! Definitely will be back! The only con is that it’s cash only, and if you wanna play the games bring some quarters. But they do have an atm so that’s helpful!

A basic clean dive bar. Super affordable. If I lived in this barrio I’d for sure be here a few nights a week. The biggest draw for me is the fact that they serve beers & cocktails without pretentiousness. The spot has pool tables in the back and PIN-BALL…nice cushy lifted oval bar-tables, a nice long bar and other seating. Super cushy barstools. It kept it’s classic feel, you know that time-machine feeling you get, without having to keep completely un-serviceable, antiquated gear, so it is relevant and usable. It’s a real nice little hangout to get away from the mainstream. I really enjoy the interaction and bar-service that the girls provide here. There is a jukebox here and a bar without a juke box could never get the total and complete love of a bar enthusiast as myself. Lancers has been an institution for awhile now, and will continue serving the University Heights well into the future.

Cash only dive bar with 2 pool tables in the back. There’s an atm in the bar in case you want to get money.(Fees may apply) We brought our food from Banh Thai, which is ok here. :)

This a is a really cool, old time style bar on the university heights park blvd strip. It has that old bar feel with really low ceilings, old leather chairs, and décor that probably hasn’t changed much since the 80s. It has a really cool look and it’s a great neighborhood place for a relatively quiet for a drink or two with friends. This place a some solid local beers on tap including stone and sculpin IPAs and also a full bar. In the back there are a few pool tables that cost $ 0.50 to play.

Ummmm WOW is all I can say. Apparently I checked in here last week but have absolutely no recollection of ever being here. All I can say is that they must serve some really strong drinks. Now that’s a bar!

found Lancers on a Unilocal review of dive bars in the Mission Valley/University Heights neighborhood of surburban San Diego. I really wish i could give it four stars but definitely merits a solid three. The pluses: it’s a dive bar. No question about it. Cheap beer, unpretentious people, relaxed atmosphere and a good internet jukebox. I don’t play pool but if you do, they got two tables. Two of the bartenders were very welcoming– Daisy and Lisa. Really a lot of fun to talk to and made this out-of-towner feel like a regular almost immediately. And in my two weeks in town on business, I more or less was a regular. The bad– the crowd is not really into talking to anyone except their immediate friends. Part of the appeal of a good dive is that you get to talk to new people without the games or bullshit of a club or anything else. And, aside from the aforementioned bartenders, the other employees had attitudes ranging from indifferent to just plain nasty– to put it another way, the male bartenders. That’s really a huge turn off when hanging out in a place like Lancers. You want that friendly, everyone’s-equal-here vibe, not«I’m bartending but since my friends are here, I’ll just serve them, and f-ck anyone else who wants service. They get it when I’m ready.» That was what really pulled it down off the four star level. That being said, I will definitely revisit next time I’m in town.

Great for what it is! Quieter place with electronic darts board and nice folks. Bingo on Sunday nights! Relaxed atmosphere away from hubbub.

You can get drunk here. Some bartenders play the PBR bottle cap game. Some do not. They even have rare beer finds. It’s usually not too crowded. Just don’t be a basic bitch and use the bathroom to do coca. The staff will thank ya for it.

Reasons I go to Lancer’s: — strong drinks — cheap pool — a digital juke box that I can play random songs on that don’t fit the ambiance — friendly patrons who are usually willing to talk to me when I get to rambling Reasons I don’t go to Lancer’s: — I’m out of cash and am too lazy to go to the bank — I want a nice ambiance — I want a friendly bartender Really, those points are what it boils down to. I keep coming back despite the fact that the bartender I usually get acts like giving me quarters is the most painful thing he’s done all day. It’s probably because drinks are cheap, they have two pool tables, and it’s a good place for my friends in the area to converge at. As a bonus, if you’re a halfway decent looking girl you’ll probably get a free drink from someone in the bar. The ratio of guys to girls is off, so I usually get to save some money when I go out here. On the flip side, you then have to navigate those waters carefully if you’re just trying to hang out with your friends.

Fun, upbeat ambiance. Nope, this really isn’t the place for that. But if you’re looking for a kick ass(uses their own special recipe) bloody mary, delicious moscow mules that’s served correctly in a copper tin mug, strong, old school martinis and a decent selection of good beer, this you’ll find. There are no windows, no natural light floating through, so the place tends to feel drabby. Quit contrary to the rest of the scene on Park Blvd. And due to the location and depending on the time of day, the crowd is pretty much a mix bag of the unpretentious, old school rock, the hipsters, the bar flies and some randoms. There are pool tables, TVs, and a digital jukebox player. But I’ve never heard anyone plays any top 40 music. This isn’t the place for that. You won’t find my hip hopping self dancing away. For me, I simply come in, order my drink of preference, chill for a bit, then vamoose. It’s an old neighborhood bar. You’re gonna have to have a little humor and sarcasm and frankly, just get over it. It’s a trade of for those Sunday morning bloody marys. Plus, for $ 6 … yeah, I got over it.

Do you know me? If you do, then you know I’m a fan of dive bars. If you don’t, well, now you know. :) As others have mentioned: strong, cheap drinks and pool tables make for a(great) dive bar. The no-frills bartenders are efficient but aren’t trying to make best friends with their customers and that’s fine by me. On my most recent visit, they handled our large(unexpected?) group with ease and everyone had a good time. Minus one star for the 20 year old stale smoke smell that seems to permeate everything, but maybe you’re into that kind of thing. :)

A lesbian bar that the c-rate hipsters finally found. It’s like soft-porn hip. Eeeeew! It’s not bad. On the up side I gave heard several bartenders from cool bars say they go here after closing. So maybe popular after midnight.(Fat girls, lesbians and strange guys with fake English accents)

As far as dive bars go, this is one of my favorites in all of San Diego. I run a dive bar group, so I’ve been to nearly every dive in a five to 10 mile radius. Lancer’s is great because it’s one of the last few dive bars that hasn’t been taken over by the hipster crowd. Lancer’s remains a true dive where you can get cheap $ 2.50 well drinks and PBR bottles and shoot some pool or throw some darts… They also have pinball, megatouch and a juke box. What more could you want from a dive? Yes, yes, the main bartender/manager can be an ass, but that’s half the fun of a true dive. You can’t have it all. Go across the street to Small Bar if you want expensive fancier drinks and bartenders who give a crap about your feelings. When compared to other bars in San Diego where drinks are less than $ 3, Lancer’s is five stars all the way.
