I called and left a message, but never got a call back. Perhaps they are great, but I guess I will never know. edit: they ended up calling me and leaving a message about a week and a half after i posted this. They apologized for the delay(so I gave them another star :)).

I consider myself pretty computer literate. And I say that knowing that most people who consider themselves computer illiterate will think I’m a god amongst the chipped machines that abound in our culture. That being said, my compy died a ferocious and inexplicable death, and I — of course — did not have a backup or any way to diagnose what was wrong. Searching high and low, I found a mac specific repair shop, and after calling them to set up an appointment to swing by(they work personal hours, so always call to set up a time), I was delighted to find that Macintosh Guru was an absolute JOY to work with. First of all, they lacked the pervasive and offensive«MOOOOVE!!» attitude of the typical computer jockey.(You remember, Chris Kattan as the Computer Guy from SNL? They’re not like him at all.) They asked me all the right questions, clarified any problems and were absolutely lovely to work with. They charge an initial diagnostic fee to figure out what’s wrong. If you decide to have them fix whatever is wrong, they will only charge you their hourly rate, and drop the diagnostic charge altogether. I believe that they also do on-site repair/diagnostic if you don’t feel like driving. Being a bit of a snob about my computer skills, when I found out my hard drive was on the way out, they were able to recover my data and back it up to another hard drive. I chose to be difficult(and cheap) about the whole thing and said that I would be ordering my new hard drive and re-installing the software, but could I bring it by and have them put the data on it without exceeding the 1 hour that they charged me for backing up the data in the first place? Graciously, they agreed. Then installed my hard drive for me for free. And engaged me in charming conversation while my data transferred. Then carried the computer to my car for me. This place is a small business run by a younger couple who are absolutely wonderful to work with. I really don’t go out of my way to review non-food businesses, but I have to say — while I hope that I don’t have to see them again anytime soon, they were fabulous to work with, reasonable and accommodating — and if anything happens to my compy in the future, they’ll be the first and only ones I bring it to.
