I had the marble bread sandwich. Great lil joints around town. I love old classic delis like these. I can’t do corporate junk menus. Most of the options on here are pretty healthy and filling. Love it! Will be back.

Great Service and the food and liquor are outstanding. Good selection, at modest prices… I am really happy with this place. I’ll be coming back again soon for more booze and soda.

I’m retired, and my former office has since moved away from Mixon’s ‘hood, but I still stop by here whenever something brings me nearby — and it doesn’t take much. Service is always friendly, orders are properly filled, and they don’t mind giving you extra trimmings w/o charging for it. The variety is good, the salad bar well-stocked, and the chili is always delicious. Their chicken salad and ham/turkey/swiss sandwiches, the latter called«The Lawyer,» are my favorites, but I’ve never had anything that wasn’t good from this place. My frequent eater card doesn’t get punched as much as it used to, but I’m holding onto it and will keep coming here for a good, well-made sandwich at a very reasonable price.

oof… you know that feeling when you ate too much and you know you should have stopped eating about halfway through, but you didn’t because, even though you knew it was gonna be too much food in one sitting, it was just too damn good to stop? That’s Mixon’s Highrise. Seriously, there is no better sandwich and no better value than the Highrise in downtown SD. If you are looking to eat on $ 10 a day in San Diego, go get one Highrise and you’re good for the day. Thank me later.

Great little hole in the wall deli on back side of the liquor store! Very clean and plenty of seats inside and a couple of tables outside. Prices for sandwiches are very reasonable and they have salad bar and soups they also serve b-fest. Nice thing is you can have a beer or glass of wine with lunch! I have the 10# bluebird on a roll the BOMB!!! Will be back great quite clean deli!

Great sandwich suggestion Liz! At first I thought how good could it be? It’s a sandwich shop in a liquor store. WOW, it was amazing!

I just recently started visiting Mixon on the advice of co-workers. From the outside, it looks like your regular liquor store that also happens to sell sandwiches. The sandwiches here are awesome and prices are very reasonable for the quality. Every time I visit my San Diego office, I try to swing by here for lunch. I wish I had known about this place earlier.

One of the best places to a get a sandwich. This is the definition of whole in the wall. They go all out on quantity. The construction is incredible. They put a lot of fresh avocado on it too. Don’t forget your free drink if you’re a student.

Have been on the hunt for deli downtown that has a good turkey, avo, bacon and cheese sandwich with nice, soft bread… found it! The Construction was just what I wanted.

Terrific sandwiches at reasonable prices. Terrific because they use good, fresh bread and quality meats and cheese. Just on the north side of downtown and south of Little Italy but if you’re close by, it’s a great deli. It’s in the back of the liquor store but there are a couple of tables on the street. Service is very friendly considering it gets a lot of take-out orders near lunch time.

Not bad at all. From time to time, I’ll meet up with a friend here on lunch breaks and we’ll split a sandwhich at their deli. We’ve had the tuna a few times, but we usually get the«Construction», which is a turkey sandwhich with avocado, bean sprouts, tomato, and bacon. It’s a perfect estanlishment for a quick bite to eat during your lunch break. They seem pretty sports oriented with NFL Network on their TV’s all the time, the neon signs and Chargers helmets. Like I’ve implied though, it’s nothing special. The sandwhiches are good, but it’s more for a quick bite to eat during lunch hour, nothing more. I’d actually give it 3.5 stars if possible.

Great sandwiches priced between $ 6 – 10. The sandwich shop is in a sketchy liquor store that also has a great selection of liquor and beer.

I have been going here for a good 8 years or better. The sandwiches are delicious and I have always been very satisfied with the service and the quantity and quality of the food. I can honestly say that I have never been dissatisfied.

The sandwiches are ridiculous. I have been going here for years for lunch. The people are great and the food really affordable. Highly recommend!!!

Agreed. There’s no small $ 10 sandwich. The best choice is a half sandwich. You can still move after. Toasted!

Excellent sandwich shop for having a quick bite downtown. They serve Dietz and Watson meats and cheeses. Around noon they tend to get busy, but you can phone your order in before hand. They have limited hours, they pretty much cater to the downtown lunch crowd only. My favorite is the Construction sandwich.

Kinda creepy inside… My sandwhich was pretty small and they charged $ 10. Skip for next time. Also homeless transients outside. Gross.

If you want a good tasting, filling sandwich at a reasonable price — go here. My favorite so far is the #7BANKER’S SPECIAL: Roast Beef and cheddar with mayo, thousand island dressing, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions on the french roll. Perfect thousand island to roast beef ratio.

Everything previous in Unilocal posts is correct except I wasn’t hassled by street people outside :-) The sandwiches are every bit as good as proclaimed; I had the Construction(#3, turkey, bacon, cheddar, avocado, tomato and sprouts)) on toasted sourdough. It was incredibly delicious and huge; I was only able to eat ½ of it and this was after a 7 mile jog(I started out very hungry). People at the sandwich counter were super nice; you have no idea of what a gem this place is from only outside appearance. If you are a visitor in town, be brave and wander from the touristy spots, and pick up lunch here(would be a great place to hit before a day in Balboa Park). Aloha, Greg
