Motel 6

This motel is very pet friendly. The beds and room looked like they are furnished by IKEA. Quick to the beaches tho.

This was pretty much the worst travel experience of my life so far. Apparently they have a problem with homeless people parking in the lot. As a result, which they did not disclose to me up front… when I came back to the hotel early this morning after attending a business convention the entire day… the hotel has a «Check Point».
My brain could not wrap itself around the idea that I paid for a room in full earlier and now I was stopped from going to the room by the security who lied and said they were coordinating with the San Diego Police.
After an intense discussion with the person at the desk, I found that the person who checked me in earlier that day did not properly check me in and according to the person at the front desk, there were a total of 9 people registered to my room.
Needless to say, they charged me for the night. I am going to write to the corporate office. I will make sure that John Davis of the security staff will be disciplined for:
* Unprofessional Behavior and Language.
* His Policy of telling customers he is coordinating with the San Diego Police
* Lying to the San Diego Police about my actions — Yes… I had to call the Police
Motel 6 Management must be held accountable for not disclosing this «Check Point» policy. I would never put myself through this type of experience.
Continuing the story: The Police was called. I realized that the staff was very unorganized, and the fact that there was 9 people registered to my room was concerning. Secondly, I had ZERO trust in the security staff. I was not going to walk to the room to retrieve my belongings without impartial police presence. Once the Police arrived I was able to process the start of my refund request in writing and retrieve my belongings without incident.
What was telling is the fact that there was a Homeless Person parked in the lot area. The Security Staff looked at the man. The Policemen looked the man. I looked at the man. Then I realized… This location has a problem with homeless and vagrant people hanging out and I fell victim to their policies.
So if you are reading this review in order to decide if you want to stay here I would say this to you: Decide what type of experience you would like to have. If you dont mind Check Points and being asked to show ID AFTER you pay for your stay in full, If you dont mind security staff acting as is they have Police powers, if you dont mind the hassle of dealing with their undisclosed policies, then this may be the place for you.
I like positive experiences and I try to avoid these types of situations.
BTW…the actual hotel is pretty much 2 Star. Cheap furnishings, elevators that dont work, smelly room. I guess in hindsight, I never book rooms at Motel 6. They tend to be subpar at best. I choose to book this weekend because my business conference was directly next to the Motel 6. Being that I was going to spend very limited time at my room… I just needed a place to hold my clothes, sleep for 6 hours, take a shower, brush my teeth, and charge my phone. I thought I could look past all of the horrific attributes of the hotel. Once I got stopped by security staff at their «Check Point» and asked to show ID… I was done. Then to see the homeless guy chilling in the parking lot… leaving was probably the best idea.

Generally I like Motel 6. This particular site has very limited parking. It is literally right next to the freeway, so there is a lot of noise. The amenities are very limited. No shampoo. No proper bath towels. For the kicker, I was in a hurry and I accidentally left my pants there. I called the same day a few hours after I checked out, and they were unable to locate it. On the bright side, the staff are relatively nice. They seemed overworked.

Sierra at the front desk was quite curt when I questioned why all occupants are REQUIRED to show ID prior to checking in.
(They also photocopied each license). We travel 3+ months a year & have NEVER been required to show ID for all occupants.
After registering I was informed that the elevator closest to our ADA accessible room was out of order & we needed to use the elevator at the opposite end of the building. We unloaded the luggage from the car & got on the «working» elevator but it didn’t move. We tried 4 times then reloaded the car & went to check out.
Sierra was irritated that we were checking out because of the elevator. Her comment was «Well it does that — you just need to wait a while & try again later».
When both people are disabled using walkers & scooters this is not acceptable.
I DO NOT recommend this hotel.

Oh man. where do I begin? Had booked the room in advance and was extremely excited about my first four day weekend in a long time… Arrived with a friend on Friday and was greeted by a VERY jittery/​nervous looking lobby attendant. Upon checking in, we were given a map of our room’s location (In the back by the river) and got back in our car and drove towards the back of the property. As we turned towards the back section, we were met by at least 10 individuals hanging out by their cars looking really nervous upon seeing a car turning the corner. My gut instinct told me not to park in this area, so I drove and parked in the middle of the property. After gathering our bags, we walked to the building our room was in and came to find out the elevator was broken… so we had to walk all the way to the back of the property to get on the working elevator. We caught the elevator up to the 4^th floor and headed down the hallway to our room. As we walked through the hallway, we were met with kids playing in the hallway, dogs barking and the very strong smell of steamed carpet. We got to our room, entered and closed the door behind us. We put our things down and tried to relax. Just a few hours later, our room started to get filled with the smell of weed coming from underneath… did I mention that our only window looked over that seedy area, where upon our check in, we had encountered the 10 individuals hanging out? The smell ended up staying with us throughout our stay. As it got later, I got ready to go out and make the best of the night with friends. I called the lobby and asked if by chance they had an iron and ironing board for use… they told me yes, and that i would have to pick it up from the lobby. I walked down to the lobby and borrowed the iron and board… which by the way. did not work and actually leaked all ove my clothes and floor. I took a shower, which if i may add, the water pressure wasn’t even that good, got dressed and walked out to meet with my Über driver. On my way to the front of the property, I noticed «police line» tape tied from one end of the parking area to the the other side, cones barricading parts of the property and two security guards with clip boards setting up a seating area. Needless to say… it was a very unsafe and unsettling feeling seeing all the security measures.
The next day was basically the same… with some added loud arguments coming from the parking area below and more weed smells. Plus dogs all over the place and closed rooms with barking dogs behind them. That day (second day stay), I ended up going out to grab some food and placed my used towels on the bathroom floor, in order to make it easier for the cleaning people. As I stepped out of the room, I noticed the cleaning people were outside my room in the hallway. I was out for around two hours and upon my return, as I opened the room, I noticed the room had not been cleaned. I ended up taking my towels to the cleaning people personally, only to experience a rude cleaning lady and her co-​worker questioning me about why I needed new towels. I finally was able to get three towels, even though I turned in three sets (large and small hand towels… three sets). The second night, a couple of friends were joining us, so we ended up walking to the lobby, in order to add them to our registry. While doing so, I returned the iron, in hopes of returning it and borrowing a working one. At the lobby, I was informed that they only had one iron available… the one that I was returning… OH MAN. Oh… did I mention that on my way to the lobby. along with the security measures mentioned for the night before, there were now two police cars parked in front of the hotel. Our friends arrived and we were happy and embarrassed over the whole police presence, but we tried to make the best of the situation. Within an hour of our friends’ arrival, we got ready and walked out to enjoy the night. Upon heading to the front, the security was arguing with a young man and threatening the man that he was going to be evicted even if he «whispered loud.» WOW
The next day… Sunday. we got up early and were so happy to be checking out. BY THE WAY… the cleaning people didn’t make an attempt to clean our room once… if anything, when we checked in. there was hair all over the bed. I’m so sorry, this place is not worth it! VERY UNSAFE and when I am trying to have a nice vacation away, the last thing I need is to be in the middle of drug activity and usage. If i wanted to be in that environment, I would spend a weekend walking through Downtown L.A.‘s bad areas. #MOTEL6NOTWORTHIT

Room was clean but reeked of cigarette smoke. If you have asthma issues, you might die.

If you’re coordinating lodging for out of town guests and/​or look for minimal customer service go someplace else. Anywhere else. After booking the room, I called ahead to let them know my out of town guests will be checking in. I asked that they be able to check in without me present. They said no problem and notes their names. Fast forward 3 hours, I am told by my out of town guests that they are not being allowed to check in. When I call the motel they said they have no notes or mentions of my guests. I said I called earlier about this. Front desk noted their names again and allowed them to check in. Fast forward 8 hours. I am driving my guests back to Motel 6 and decide to come up and visit. I don’t know what time the parking lot turns into a faux-​police checkpoint, but it does and guests have to be called in by security to the front desk. I then find out that although I paid for the room and have all the reservation info I am no longer on the room record. I try to provide the digital confirmation info but both security and the front desk are flippant and dismissive. I end up having to pay $ 3.85 just to visit the friends in the room I paid for.

Book a room here if you ever want a motel experience with negative customer service.

I’m going to start with ‘If you see two girl getting on the elevator with a birthday cake and beer past 11PM on a week night, you know it’s going down’. That pretty much sums up my experience at this hotel.
Needed something pet/​service animal friendly and easy on the budget, plus a decent neighborhood, so this motel fit the bill. I’d stayed at the Crowne Plaza next door in the recent past, so I was familiar with the area on Hotel Circle. Motel 6 had a great rate, and I’ve had some good Motel 6 experiences of late so I booked. Check in was easy and we were assigned to a room in the tower (Room 168, near elevator). We were informed that ‘quiet time’ started at 10PM. That sounded great, but in reality, that’s when the noise got worse.
Pros:
Staff was friendly at check in
No pet fees
Faux hardwood floors (great when you have pets plus I don’t like carpet)
Was reasonably clean for a Motel 6
Walking trail behind property was nice for walking pets
Security in parking lot at night
Can order late night beer, wine, and food from a contracted delivery service
Cons:
In spite of security, shady people milling about everywhere
SO MUCH NOISE all night, even with alleged quiet time at 10PM
If you are in the tower, you can hear people walking in rooms above you
Attracts some ‘characters’ (partiers, tweakers, etc)
Thinnest mattress I have ever seen on a bed
Super tight parking spots
4.99/day for ‘premium’ WiFi that doesn’t work well
Book at your own risk. Not worth saving money for compromised safety and noise.

There’s a reason why the rating is so low. Very poor customer service. VERY incompetent staff that doesn’t answer the phone when you call front desk. Amenities not working, very old and run down. The rules here are ridiculous and the security very harassing, tells you they are just making sure everything is okay basically to make sure your not sneaking anyone in. Yet not even close to being thorough with their processes if it is REALLY ABOUT YOUR SAFETY so there is really no point but to waste your damn time and get on your nerves. They think they are sheriffs smh… No one in the front office knows anything and just refers you to their management «Thomas» …no last name or any other information; couldn’t even describe their manager lmfao. I see why it’s the ONLY motel with booking available on MLK! I fucking hate writing a review honestly cause everyone has their own opinion and treated differently IMO. Maybe you will catch them on a day they are all out of fuckery. Oh yeah and you have to pay for shitty WIFI that doesn’t keep you connected, the fastest 4.99 doesn’t download and if you do somehow manage to stay connected try taking a nap for the TAT on w/​e your downloading… what thee fuck! Smh I used to love motel 6 cause it’s normally in a good location and cost efficient with at least decent staffing, I don’t ask for much but not at this one here.

…just when you thought it was all over with. So on my stay I was having a terrible time contacting a relative damn near the whole time do to once again the incompetent staffing at front desk.
I had preordered my room and I requested a smoking which they gave me a NON SMOKING and comped the Wifi. Tried to play it off by «giving me a bigger room» for the day till a smoking was available like I can sleep in 2 beds at once or some, it was only myself staying real smart lol. So I take the room for the night and in the am I call to check to make sure they have a room for me to transfer they tell me yes and I proceed to stay in my non smoking till check out as informed by front desk. I was waiting on a ride, when my ride got to the hotel they enter the front lobby due to pit bull security not wanting to let anyone through that has followed all the rules and regulations the establishment has. They referred him TO THE SMOKING ROOM I had yet to enter because they told me it was booked till check out. To make this short, wasted my relatives time who is a very busy business owner, I missed my ride (way later meeting at my own expense), my relative did in fact leave a message at the front office when I didn’t show to the empty room after waiting over a hour and I am still waiting on that message lmao smh

I stayed here on New Year’s Eve, the staff was very accommodating and checked us in and out quickly. The updated rooms have a nice modern touch, and was very clean. Soap and towels are in the room, remember to bring your own shampoo though. Would stay here again.

My friend prepaid for this room but I guess the refund you to make sure that your number of guest was correct. My friend had originally put 3, I came last minute and security inspected the car and made me get out to give my ID information and charged me around $ 12
Security doesn’t even let you park (nighttime) without registering your car first.
My friend felt like we were being followed when walking to our rooms by security. We arrived around 10 so we thought it was for our protection.
Literally, 5 MINUTES after walking inside our hotel security knocked on our door saying we had a noise complaint. What!!! One of us was still holding her bags. When was there noise! Another ten minutes later we got a second complaint. We were so irritated. Before leaving we could hear security walking on our floor to check on us.
The next night we were getting ready to go out. I know for a fact we did not care how loud we were. And guess what? No knocks on the door. I really feel the «top flight security» we’re being dicks the night before.
Then we asked for more towels and were told to come to the office and get it ourselves. So world class parking lot security is on the budget but a runner to satisfy our needs clearly isn’t.
Perhaps at the Venetian, the Hilton or any other high end hotel I would understand. But for this to be a low budget hotel, I felt everyone was taking their job too seriously. Don’t waste your money here if you are a younger group. You will be targeted

Not bad. The staff was nice. Close to the freeway and the mall. The bed was super uncomfortable. However the rooms were surprisingly nice. Loved the updates they did. Not a bad stay if ur on a budget.

Went down to San Diego for a family event. It was decided that we would spend the night in a hotel so we wouldn’t have to drive back late at night. During some discussion, we «agreed» that we would look to see what rooms are available at any hotel, with a few exceptions. One, we didn’t want to stay at a Motel 6.
We looked online and saw the prices for most hotels in the area. Knowing we were only gonna use the room at night to sleep in, we looked at hotels and motels.
After some searching on hotels and price, my mother remembered she had a voucher for a free nights stay at any Motel 6 in the U.S. from an experience she had about 5 months earlier. She had mentioned about seeing some pictures of different Motel 6’s and how they are remodeling them, so she was OK on using the voucher for the San Diego trip.
We get to the Motel 6 and it looks decent enough. It’s in an area where there are other hotels and motels around, so I’m sure they want to look enticing as an option for many travelers in the are. We check in and hand over our IDs, fill out the necessary paperwork. We were handed our «permits» to park on the lot. Was told that after 10 pm, security goes around checking to make sure those parked are those who have reservations there.
Want WiFi, they will charge you. We skipped it.
We were booked into the back tower. At the entrance to the tower, there were some sketchy people hanging out in front. I don’t know what it is about that entrance door, because we always saw people hanging out there. It just seemed a little weird and a little uncomfortable. I kept waiting for someone to ask for a handout of some sort. Gladly no one did.
We get to the elevator and it was making a weird sound. The door opens, we look inside, and decide to take the stairs. We get to the floor and the hall way, with the painted walls and doors, looked so old. Like the only thing modern were the slots for the plastic key cards.
We enter the room, and it’s a fairly nice size room with 2 beds. The design of the room, I dunno if it was suppose to be retro or something, but it looked like it was done on a fairly low budget. The beds were comfortable as I feel asleep instantly. For the shower, hot water seemed to have come quick. Now, the towels … they were the typical thin, half size towels. Lights and fixtures were good. Television worked great. And all around, it seemed quite.
Now, even though everything seemed to be in our favor, I found out how much this room was going for. This particular size room’s rate at the time of booking was $ 119. When I found that out, I could not believe it. $ 119 for one night?!? Oh hell no. $ 50 yes, $ 60, ok. $ 75, probably as high as I would pay for a room. But $ 119, I almost died. I am just glad it was a free room. Otherwise, I would have suggested elsewhere for that price.

I left the very next day.
Security guard greets me at the parking and asks for ID.
Guests must present ID and other info to front desk.
They could not find my reservation. Took about an hour to correct.
Bed was okay. Sheets were a bit on the low end. I’m not expecting a lot of course for the price. I was traveling on a budget but after that experience I packed my things and next morning I booked a nicer hotel in old town for two days.
The room size is okay and it seems really minimally furnished and that’s okay.
At least parking is free.
You get what you pay for.
I give two stars because the rooms were clean and they gave me free Wi-​FI for having to wait for an hour at the lobby.

I like Motel 6 and i stay in them regularly all over.
This one in particular decided to hire a security guard to inspect each vehicle on arrival to the parking lot at night. So i handed him my parking pass but this wasn’t what he wanted. He immediately looked at my passenger and questioned who he was.
I told him that we were staying together but this wasn’t good enough. He decided to radio the front desk to confirm who he was. Are you kidding? Am i not allowed to have a guest in my room? Yes i paid for 2 adults and yes my friend was with me at check in and even provided his photo id. This was a total violation of privacy and absolutely disgusting.
This process continued until the annoyed clerk at the front told him to let us in but can you imagine dealing with this screening process every time you access your humble, no frills motel room?
Creepy.

For the price & convenience, you can’t beat it and fairly nice room.
The bed is really hard since after the revamp, there are no bedsprings.
I just have to recommend the cleaning person clean the floors!
I took a shower and my feet were perfectly clean. Walking on the floor for just 10 minutes left my feet completely black. Took a wet towel to just part of the not even in commonly walk part of the floor and the towel was black. That’s pretty gross.

The problem with having last minute impromptu trips is not having the luxury to find a suitable place to stay that not only meets your expectations but offers a great value as well. We decided at the last hour to meet up with family at Legoland for the weekend. By that time, almost all of my hotel choices were already booked and the ones left were either priced ridiculously or look very questionable.
So I booked Motel 6 with uncertainty, I have never stayed at any of their hotel chains so I didn’t really know what to expect. I’m really not big on fancy, the thing with utmost importance to me is cleanliness. The thought of bed bugs make my skin crawl! Reading the reviews didn’t make me feel at ease but was totally relieved that I didn’t read any horror stories about them damn bugs.
We arrived at the motel a little before 11 PM, checking in was a breeze, it took less than 10 minutes. They have free parking on site which is a plus. The rooms are renovated with modern features like wood floors and a raised sink. I was most happy that it was clean and bug free! The tub was spotless and bathroom albeit small was very clean. Showerhead pressure was on point and water was hot and soothing. Towels were all clean despite some other Unilocalers unfortunate experience. The mattress was on the firmer side but I prefer mines that way due to my back issues. The rooms are very minimally furnished and that probably is my biggest complaint, it didn’t have what I consider the «bare necessities» — no hair dryer, no fridge or microwave, no iron etc. Not really a deal breaker but if I had my choice and if I’m paying $ 165 a night I would expect a hair dryer at the very least. Our stay was OK but I don’t know if I’ll come back only because there are a bunch of options around Hotel Circle row for the same price range that even offers free breakfast and wifi and has all the amenities that Motel 6 is lacking.

It took me 2 days to pick a motel. I’m glad i didn’t listen to all the negative reviews. For a CLEAN room with 2 queen size beds and hard wood floors for $ 109 you can’t beat it. I would definitely return to this motel 6 if ever in the area.

I am writing this review as I am staying at this hotel. This is my «go to» hotel whenever we stay in san diego, mainly because the rooms are updated and modern. Prices are decent and not too expensive.
But last night as our first night, I did like how they called us to check up on us 10 mins after we walked into our rooms to see if we were satisfied with everything.
I didn’t like how people upstairs were walking around so loud and hard that you could hear it in middle of night and early in the morning.
We were staying couple doors next to these people with those Harley motor and when you turn those on, it’s soo loud! It woke me up in the morning and did not like that. I ended up having to wake up early on a Sat morning.
How can you not provide shampoo and Conditioners?! Is it because of a motel? Good thing I brought my own!
Other than that, hotel is pretty clean. It’s decent. Come here if you don’t wanna spend a whole lot on rooms.

This is a motel 6, not the ritz carlton. You get what you pay for. For about $ 61, including tax I think it is a steal. They have renovated the hotel so the rooms are spacious and modern. The building and the surrounding structures does show their ages. The door to my room was sticky and obviously not renovated. They don’t offer a real closet, shampoo, condition, body lotion, hair dryer, or even an alarm clock. They have free parking for guest, you just need a piece of paper on your dash board. They offer coffee in the morning at the front desk area. Overall, I was glad I took some shampoo/​conditioner from another hotel and washed my hair early. This hotel is located in Hotel Circle is conveniently located near a freeway entrance. Really depends on your budget. Also, the walls are paper thin like other reviewers mentioned. I slept with ear plugs and had no problem sleeping around 9pm.
They also have a laundry room so if you have been traveling for a while you can wash your clothes.
Wifi for 2.99/day

Bin hier nur für eine kurze Nacht gewesen. Im Zimmer war das Fenster offen und draußen hat es gestunken. Heißt also das ganze Zimmer ist warm und stinkt. Der geruch ist aber garnichts gegenüber den Gestank in Bad. Hier ist nur atmen durch den Mund möglich. Dazu ist die Matratze härter als eine Parkbank. Der Preis ist dafür unverschämt hoch 10, da Motel 6 sonst nur etwa 50 Dollar kostet und hier 80 für scheiße verlangt werden.
