North University Community Branch Library

This is a book lover’s oasys. Huge book collection that saves you money and time.
Situated in a modern building (plenty of parking spots) you can spend easily a couple of hours browsing or reading something on your taste.
The only reason I cannot give a five star is the staff (one particular person) that needs more «how to be curteous» lessons.

Great library! Lots to choose from for kids and adults and tons of sponsored activities! Librarians are friendly and helpful. Children’s area is really fun fir kids, keeps my daughter happy for hours! We love the music and movement class on Fridays and their weekly crafts! The library bookstore often has good books for really low prices! We get a lot of my daughter’s books from there. Bookstore is cash only though!

Yes it can be loud during events the library hosted for the chilren but I don’t mind the noise. There are tables and study rooms available for people to study. There are plenty of computers — one section for children and another section for adults.
Interlibrary loans are available and do not take that long to request and be delivered to that library.
They do have library fine forgiveness every month.
It’s clean (especially their bathrooms) with a friendly staff. I’ll be coming here more often than not.

Please. Please install a partition between the children’s section and the rest of the library.
The noise from shrieking rugrats and their non-​stop screaming and shouting is overwhelmingly distracting. This happens on a daily basis. Isn’t a library supposed to be a quiet place to read and study? Common sense says put some kind of partition between where loud children can scream like a zoo animal and where others who want quiet can be peaceful.
Hint hint. Thank you.
The rest of the library is nice, nice sunlight and study tables.
Please keep the bathroom monitored and cleaned more frequently. It can get disgusting in there with kids peeing on the floor, using the toilet unattended with toilet paper all over the floor.

One of my study spots… This library is nice, clean, and quite spacious with tons of natural light coming through the windows. The only downside is that they have a lot of activities for kids making it very loud at times with kids crying/​running around and strollers everywhere. I came once on a Sunday and they had an orchestra type band thing going on for the adults in the middle of the library… Lol you are better off going to the Kearny Mesa one if you like the quiet environment.

This place is filled with so many great activities for kids and adults. The staff make a wonderful team. The events going on for summer are spectacular and the library makes sure the people are well entertained and educated. We frequent this library more than once a week. I feel happy and blessed to have this place close to where i live. Great work and keep it up. Kudos to everyone there who help to make this a marvelous place for everyone.

I love this library. Its very nice, large and well stocked. The staff is friendly and personable. The Friends of the Library bookstore is open every day and you can find many books in excellent condition, including recent releases for only a buck! The electronic hold system is fantastic and reserving books, music etc couldnt be easier or more efficient. Plenty of parking. Next to a well maintained park and with the expanded library hours it is easily accessible.

Great newer branch! The extended hours are great too.

This is a really nice branch, especially since the turnover in staff. I don’t know if the old ones retired but it was past time. Good wifi and lots of public access computers. I thought it was very funny that they now have records to borrow. Very retro.
Beware the children. I’m really happy that the kids are being introduced to the library at a young age, but not so happy that they’re parents think this is playtime in the park. Inside voices. Maybe take your screaming child outside until he calms down.
I love the ability to reserve a book. For a long time I couldn’t understand why nothing was on the shelves, then I realized that books are spread across the system, and new books may take years to it the shelves. Get an account and reserve early.

It’s not just the lib but the whole experience in and around that counts for me…
The lib is well done, staff also pretty friendly and helpful. They have a few individual cubicles if u r looking for a very focused study but they are high demand and get filled in pretty soon… There are bigger desks too but in the evenings they get a little loud coz of students and tutors… They have a separate room for that, I wonder why won’t they go there!?!
The baby’s and the kids crying n shouting, yeah that is a bit annoying but I normally put my headsets on so that does not bother me… Especially if u r sitting in the cubicles which are pretty far off from the kids section…
Apart from this, I love the huge park outside… I love the fact that I can go run whenever I feel bored/​tired of studying! Or just soak in the sun…

LOT OF NOISE. it’s not a library its a Kindergarten. Kids are crying loudly. Moreover, whole staff makes lot of noise while sitting in private study area for meeting they literally laugh out loud and talk in high volume they don’t even think once that they are sitting in library.

This is a wonderful branch of the San Diego library system. One of the best! no matter the noise, that makes it even more human! If you don’t like to be around kids, you will find many here, as they offer plenty of activities from them, so you might want to go to another more quiet library. However this one is actually very peaceful from the fact that is located in a very nice setting of greenery and open space. There are various rooms for different activities and you get a lot of materials in different languages (a must for language lovers like me!). It is a fantastic library that I discover just by coincidence (as well as the park where is planted) and to where I will surely come back many times for books, DVDs and magazines.

I never thought to Unilocal review a library, but this one is worthy! I’m an avid reader and always make it a point to drop by the public libraries wherever I go. Good thing the one right by my house is such a good one! It’s clean, the librarians are friendly, the books are in top-​notch condition, and the library itself is a spacious and welcoming environment.
As I just graduated from college, I have nowhere to study for my LSATs… so where do I go?! The public library (but only if it’s like the Nobel Library — I’ve heard horror stories from other places). Granted, I have to knock a star for the fact that it’s not exactly «quiet» inside. The library hosts cultural musical events, cooking classes (what?!), a piano player, and sometimes I’ve even heard an opera-​type singer by means of entertainment. There’s also tons of noisy children running their heads off screaming everywhere, but if you search for a cozy nook in the back of the library, these noises are well-​minimized.
Also, I looove reading fiction and non-​fiction, and the selection here is great! I’ve found many books here that I haven’t found at other libraries, and often several copies too. The books are also so clean inside, it’s like no one ever read them before!
4 stars for the Nobel Library! :)

4-​stars for the clean and new building, a lot of parking, the park next door, basketball court, and large desks to sit at. This rating is not necessarily a reflection of the contents available since I haven’t really explored that yet.
Great place for parents and children, but only «OK» (3-​stars) for those of us that want a place to study.
Since the kids are only separated by a «wing» of the building as opposed a room or another floor, their voices will carry. Definitely bring a set of headphones if they’ll be a distraction. There aren’t a lot of large desks (maybe 8 and more individual study stations), but I haven’t had any issues finding one any time that I’ve come (weekdays after 12pm).
If you want _​complete_​silence and a TON of large desks to work at I highly recommend the UCSD Biomedical Library on the weekends (you need a permit to park during the weekdays).

I’m no longer a student, so when I come to the library, I’m either looking for a change in scenery (instead of being stuck at my home office), or wanting to borrow books/​DVDs.
Parking is never an issue. It shares its parking area with a nearby dog park, and basketball court down below.
Inside, it can get a bit challenging finding a spot to sit. Since this appears to be a popular (and newer) library, I rarely find a table where I can park my stuff to work, and when I do, no electrical outlets are accessible. The group rooms are always taken.
There are quiet areas, which are nice, but when there are screaming little kids coming from the kids section, it’s anything but quiet.
They have a fairly good selection of books and DVDs though. Their DVD collection is HUGE, so it’s worth taking a browse-​through before hitting up the local Redbox if it isn’t already on Netflix.
The entire building is clean, with clean bathrooms. Everything looks relatively new, with carpeting clean enough you can sit by the shelf of your choosing.
Demographics… people that usually come here are mothers with their little children, seniors, and students (since it’s close enough to UCSD). I haven’t seen any homeless people stroll on by, which is no surprise since it’s UTC.
If I had a choice between all libraries in San Diego to go to, I would choose this one… Only because it’s closest to home, and because it serves my purpose, (most of the time).

So I’ve been to this library three times. First, to pick up books, second to return them, and the third to study.
My first impression was «Dang! Why haven’t I been here before?» since it’s so close to UCSD. The park is next door and this library would have been perfect for warm sunny days on the grass!
The second time, when I returned my books at the end of the school year, I thought I would never be back. But behold! In between classes on Monday, I decided «Why head to Geisel when I can check out this little gem.»
Here goes:
The parking is great! So spacious that I can’t see it ever getting full. The park is nearby so it makes you feel like you’re not going to be doomed by being cooped up in a library. But, I was a bit disappointed by their «study» areas. The library isn’t very big, and there isn’t a second floor. The study tables are spread out by the walls. Since the library is so small, and their children’s area so large, be prepared to hear lots of kids giggling and parents «shhhhh”-ing them. When I study, I don’t listen to music, but maybe if I did, I would have had a better experience. If they had the children’s area further away, maybe I’d be a bigger fan. And considering the large park outside, I’m surprised a bigger library wasn’t built.
Nevertheless, I may be back once or twice in the next month, while I finish up summer school (and instead of living in Geisel library at UCSD where I have spent many hours already).

Beautiful clean library with plenty of comfy seats if you are reading a book and tables if you are studying with your laptop. Tons of parking.
There are swings in the playground adjacent to the library if you need to take a break and get some fresh air.

Such a beatiful campus. A hidden gem is the perfect way to describe this ultra-​clean, modern library.
Books, CDs, DVDs, free WiFi, and an attached store have possibly everything you may want from a library. And for FREE. –Silly to have to add this comment however many people are shocked I use the library for get my reading material… why would I waste shelve space and money on something I can get for free?! Think about that…
I love using the online system however to place my chosen reading materials on Hold and able to pick them up without having to search through the catalogs or worrying my item won’t be available.
S why the one star off… some of the librarians /​staff employed here could get an attitude adjustment.

Have you been to the library lately? It’s like the land of free stuff… books, CD’s, language learning sets, DVD’s. It’s all here. Netflix? Forget about it. If you have Mighty Ducks 3 and Mr. Bean in your queue, you’re all set. Cancel your membership now.
Just make sure to take advantage of the library soon because once more people find out that the U.S. has a socialized book system, we library-​goers are screwed. Haha, jk. Sorry, I had to do it.
