The location is what drew us into this restaurant. The bread was freshly baked and delicious. We ordered a caprese salad and I ordered ravioli. Both were authentic Italian style. The pasta is made in house. Great setting and the staff were great. I would recommend this place.

I’ve been to Osteria Pavenino a few times already and each visit has been very nice. The menu is excellent also there are good options for wines. The staff is very friendly, ask for Sabrina, her suggestions are always on point and she made us feel very welcome. If you appreciate good Italian food this is definitely worthy!

If you’re looking for a great evening in a restaurant with amazing décor and ambiance, this is your place. If you’re looking for fresh, made from scratch Italian cuisine with phenomenal, 1st class service, this is your place. The restaurant is not huge, but has an outside patio for seating as well. The servers roam without being overbearing and are very polite and genuinely friendly. We had a large party and our food was served hot and fresh. The portion sizes weren’t too large, and actually perfectly filling. My gf had the carbonara and it was amazing! All pastas are made from scratch and sauces/proteins are interchangeable. They also offer«chefs selections» different from the main menu that are wide ranging but with Italian flair. Overall this place is a winner and you can’t go wrong, whether it’s a group outing or a romantic evening for two. Bön Appetito!

I’ve been coming here for years. Consistently good food, great service and always very accommodating. This is a good standby when I’m in the area and not really sure what to eat, but don’t want to be disappointed.

The food tasted okay, not too good nor bad. We were also charged for just drinking water without even given the choice of tap water nor a note that we were going to be charged for water. Also, the chef’s special menu doesn’t have any pricing on them so I ended up paying a good $ 50 on a single order of pasta, which was not expected. Tip: The pizza is not recommended.

Not bad. I’ve been here a couple of times. Food is generally solid. It’s not the best Italian place but it’s good. I had the pasta special with lobster, clam, shrimp, fish. It was good, shrimp was a bit tasteless but other stuff were good. We shared a bottle of wine and tiramisu for desert. My friend didn’t like his chicken parm. One thing I noticed Is this place tries very hard to up sale you. Almost everything we ordered the waiter would say they also have this other thing that we should try. Especially on the drinks. I appreciate suggestions but they clearly overdone it.

Ambiance, food, drinks and service at best! Had the caprichosa salad, siciliana pasta with eggplant and paired it with Peroni birra. Ended with our comped tiramisu. So good!

Came in at 9:45pm and had tremendous service. The burrata, calamari, and bread were all amazing to start. I had the lobster ravioli — which I’d give a 3.5÷5 — I prefer chunks of lobster. But my dining companion had the lasagna and it was amazing. Anywhere else I probably give this a 4⁄5 but it’s in the gaslamp where there’s never good food. 5⁄5

I decided to make same day reservations for a party of 10 and they very kindly welcomed us. The service was amazing and the food was extraordinary… this place went beyond my expectations! We couldn’t had been more thankful for the overall experience and we will definitely be back the next time in town.

Came to this restaurant for Mothers Day with the family. It is pretty small and was definitely crowded which means that seats were closer together. However there were ten of us. Despite that the food was so yummy. I got the spinach ravioli. It is very flavorful and filling. The calamari and shrimp is not that great though. The portobello mushroom was really good with lots of cheese. My boyfriend got the lasagna which was very flavorful as well. My mom ended up getting salmon and that was very good too. Definitely a recommended place to eat.

If you are looking for Italian comfort food done well– this is the place to go. Pasta made fresh in house, food was generous in portion, light and just simply delicious. Service was phenomenal from the moment we walked through the door, at all touch points. Mario, our main server, was a particular gem. We started with the calamari and dove right into our entrees– I went classic with the Chicken Parm and my dinner mates both had one of the specials that was a divine seafood pasta with scallops, jumbo prawns and lobster in a brandy cream sauce. Both entrees were amazing. We also had a side of the garlic bread and tapenade. Lick your lips good. There truly wasn’t one miss. We all look forward to returning. Bravo!

I had a friend visiting and we decided to go out for dinner and I wanted to show him around Gaslamp. We walked up 5th and checked different Italian restaurants along the way. I had been to different ones in the past, but this was also my first time at Osteria Panevino. I am so glad that this is where we decided to have dinner. We were greeted right away and taken to our table. The host was very polite. The server Thaddeus was AMAZING! He was polite, helpful, made suggestions and recommendations, and was super attentive. My friend and I ordered the Insalata Tropica and Mezzelune Di Melezane to share. They were so tasty that I would order it again. We also each had a glass of wine and had to order their homemade tiramisu for dessert. I HIGHLY recommend this place. My friend and I will definitely return the next time he visits. They make you feel like you are part of the famiglia!

Visiting an old friend at one of his many restaurants in SD, Vincenzo Loverso. I love Osteria Panevino, great restaurant and the best food and service. Always feels like home here. Next time you are in downtown stop in for some authentic Italian Cuisine and Hospitality. This is the best SD has to offer, the ingredients are fresh and the food is full of wonderful flavors and it is as close as you get to Italy in SD #sandiego #sachaboutros #osteriapanevino #yum #thebest #italian #sicilian

I’ve been to a lot of really good Italian restaurants. Connecticut is blessed with them. But I was unprepared for how much I enjoyed my meal at Osteria. We sat outside and although it’s a tight fit, there’s nothing I love more for eating than a great meal under the stars. And this was a great meal. Outstanding friendly service from a waiter who just anticipated our needs. He answered questions with a smile, he offered suggestions, and he catered to our needs. As a result we had a ton of food. There was burrata cheese. Yum. Silky rich. Prosciutto that was melt in your mouth. Etc. those were just the apps. But the ossobuco(lamb shank with risotto) was some of the best I’ve had. The meat was tender in a huge portion. The sauce was rich without being too acidic. And of course, the small fork for the marrow. My only«complaint» was that it was huge and I couldn’t take it with me. I also tried the rack of lamb. Quite good. Table companions got a spaghetti with seafood dish that they all raved about. So yes, this is as good as it gets. Bravo.

We are visiting from Canada. This was our first meal(lunch) in Gaslamp Quarter. Glad we chose Osteria Panevino. Our waiter, Mario, immigrated from Sicily a few years ago and was great. My wife & I shared a Caesar salad Mario split into 2 plates. Nice portions, very tasty. Anchovies mild like we like them. Fresh bread provided. My wife had sausage linguini — exceptionally good. I had Spinach & ricotta ravioli in pesto sauce-amazing flavour, could have been a touch warmer. I didn’t mind. Finished with a perfect café latte made by Mario. My Italian mother would have been impressed with the food. We’ll definitely go back during our holiday. Mario is now like a friend that we look forward to seeing again. 5 stars.

Oh my goodness. Sabrina guided us through such an amazing experience. The burrata was delightful. The bruchetta amazing. I tasted my friends lamb ravioli and the lamb osso bucco. I had one of the specials — seafood ravioli. I had no idea I would have a half a lobster w the rest of the seafood mix. Sad I’m leaving SD tomorrow because I would come back. Brava!!!

Went there as part of restaurant week in a group of four on a Friday evening with prior reservation. Able to be seated early. The décor and lighting gives off a Tuscan vibe which gives it a romantic feel as soon as you enter. Good: Fresh bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar dip was brought to the table quickly. The Millefoglie de Vegetali e Mozzerella appetizer was delicious, with grilled vegetables, mozzerella and pesto drizzle which all worked really well together. My husband’s Pollo Siciliano had good flavor although the chicken was a tad overcooked. Bad: Some of the food and service were lackluster however. We had to ask for the restaurant week menu, it wasn’t brought to us with their regular dinner menu when we were first seated, which we thought was odd. Also we felt a little rushed in ordering, we only had about 2 minutes to look at the menu before the waitress came back asking if we were ready to order. Appetizer– Calamari was a little bland and needed seasoning, and had a rubbery texture to it. I had the Eggplant Ravioli entrée which was luke-warm when brought to the table. I didn’t like the texture of the ravioli filling but the creamy tomato sauce was delicious and perfect to dip bread in. Tried the Tiramisu for dessert which was not bad in flavor but the center of the piece was frozen! The staff were nice but not very attentive– I didn’t get replacement silverware after the were taken away with the appetizer dish. And not once did my water get refilled. Overall– I’m glad I tried it, but due to the inconsistent food and service, probably will not return soon as there are many better italian restaurants in the downtown area.

Once more I’m back at the Gaslamp to get my Italian fix and Panevino never disappoints! Had the Carbonara, was amazing, my friend had the Lamb chops and let me tell you I was a little jealous… Lol… Sooo good. Have a canoli and a capuccino for dessert and call it the day! There is nothing better! Thank you Panevino that’s way I keep coming back.

This is a favorite Italian spot downtown for one of my coworkers so after a long day of meetings we headed over there for dinner. It was very crowded and busy on a thursday. I got to try a number of dishes on this visit which was great and they were all really good and the pasta dishes were really big portions which made the prices seem reasonable. We shared: Mozzarella tasting plate Chilean sea bass with crab risotto Spaghetti and meatballs with meat sauce Potato gnocchi Penne vodka They were all really good and filling. I would recommend any of those dishes again.

I was visiting San Diego for the holidays, and we went to watch a movie downtown. Across the street from the movie theater is Panevino. I remembered eating here many years ago — before Unilocal time — and more than once because I loved it, so it was dinner time and we gave it a shot again. Yum! Y’all know I am discerning when it comes to Italian cuisine — authentic or Americanized. I gotta tell you, Osteria Panevino still has it. First the service is always friendly and on top of things, with impeccable timing, and accommodating to my dinner companion’s food issues. Our server was a wonderful and gorgeous young lady from Brasil, whose name escapes me now, so a nod to her. The ambiance is exposed brick, a nice bar, and the appropriate lighting for a nice date with your SO, even if she’s a picky eater. I started with the grilled octopus appetizer, and it was grilled to perfection. The only thing I would change is I would do without the drizzle of what seems a mayo based sauce on it. It distracts from the goodness of the seafood, frankly. My entrée was the fusilli pasta with crab meat, shrimp and pesto. And that was exquisite. Hands down. Everything was washed down with a bottle of prosecco, and a started with a manhattan, which was shaken to perfection. Veramente bravi!

This downtown Italian restaurant is located in a busy part of downtown where the vibe is laid back and you’ll converse with adults. The staff is friendly and very accommodating. Both the drink and food menus have range. You can get traditional Italian fare or jazz it it up with a rich seafood or black truffle risotto(both are pretty good). I’ve been there twice now with fri new from out of town and I’ve enjoyed the food and the atmosphere.

My girlfriend and I ate here for dinner yesterday. We showed up kind of late but the staff was still very friendly and attentive, and didn’t rush us at all, which was important to us. We ordered the buttermilk mozzarella appetizer. Between the two of us, we liked everything on the plate, but the love for each item was not universal. I liked the pancetta and the leafy greens, but the greens were too bitter for my girlfriend. My girlfriend loved the mozzarella, which I liked but didn’t fall in love with. The warm bread and olive oil was excellent as well. For the mains, we did the Chilean sea bass with lobster and the lamb mushroom ravioli. My girlfriend loves both, while I found both well done and tasty but not particularly special. I slightly preferred the lamb ravioli, which was very well made: the ravioli was perfectly al dente and the sauce was flavorful. I had a great Italian wine to compliment everything as well. I really enjoyed the service and the food was all well done — but I feel I could enjoy something even more. I’d definitely come back and try something else in the future.

Randomly selected this place seeking to try something new Downtown and what a good choice it was! You get the true Italian feel when you dine at this place(i.e. atmosphere, employees, food). I had the Salmone Veneziano(Salmon with Spinach Mashed Potatoes) — saltier than I usually like my food, but still edible, enjoyable, and delicious! My hubby had Pollo Toscanto(Grilled Chicken Breast and Spinach Mashed Potatoes) — yummy as well. The loss of the 5th star was due to the continuous stench from cigarette smoke that filled the restaurant from outside — the patrons might as well have smoked inside the restaurant! I suggest keeping the main door closed or placing a smoking boundary several feet away. Also, our waitress could have been a little more attentive to our table. She was nice when she approached, but she seemed to be more focused on shining the glasses and the two other parties she was serving. Her timing to return to the the table for our order, check-in, and dessert offer was longer than necessary and I couldn’t even make eye contact with her to suggest. Instead, I had to wave her over. I wanted dessert, but skipped it due to the extended wait times. However, I would still dine in again for sure.

My wife and I decided to try this restaurant based on Unilocal reviews! As usual, Unilocal is dead on! We really enjoyed our dinners. We shared a caprese salad to start. It was good. I had a variation on the polenta appetizer for dinner — I asked for polenta with a meatballs and cheese on top(a variation of what my mother and grand mother made. It was excellent. My wife had the cannelloni and was extremely satisfied. Surroundings were warm — white table cloths on the table. Service was great.

Came here for dinner while walking around the gas lamp area. Cute restaurant with outdoor seating. It wasn’t that cold for December so I sat under the heated lamps. I had a glass of wine and ordered the lobster pasta special. Wow it was delicious and the service was great. Highly recommend this if you are in the mood for great Italian.

Let’s start with the BERRY Mule… it’s the BOMB! The portions were big and shareable. To start we had the Insalata di Tonno E Quinoa. The Ahi Tuna was perfectly cooked. The sesame seeds were an explosion in our mouths. We also had the Paccheri A Carbonara. It was delicious. I gave them a 4 because my mother in law found a big piece of plastic in her salad. No bueno!

My mom and I had dinner here while in San Diego recently. Our food was excellent. The service was a little slow as our waiter kept forgetting about us inside while he served those sitting outside. To start with, I had the INSALATACAPRICCIOSA — Organic Greens, walnuts, goat cheese, corn, sliced pears, cranberries, with blood orange vinaigrette. I loved all the fixings on this salad. It had a good tart dressing as well. Mom had the Pasta Fagioli soup of the day. It had lots of beans in it, good flavor, nice and think. For entrees, I had the ossobuco. It was cooked perfectly, meat fell off the bone, good flavor, lots of veggies. Mom had the veal parmesan. They did it right. It was a nice thin cutlet instead of a big veal chop that a lot of the restaurants do nowadays. Good sauce, lots of cheese. We also had nice drinks. Mom had a strong Bombay Sapphire and tonic and I had a blueberry vodka concoction from the drink menu. It was really good, not too strong. This is definitely a great place right in the heart of the Gaslamp District.

It’s almost impossible to go wrong when eating the the Gaslamp area of San Diego. We came here at the recommendation of a family friend. And, they were spot on. The place is narrow-ish/small-ish but on par with most of the restaurants in the area. If it had been a bar or nightclub, it would have been 4 – 5 times as big. I’m just saying. Sabrina took great care of us in terms of keeping our drinks filled, make recommendations, providing details of the foods, etc. The appetizers and entrees were all delicious. Everything tasted«authentic» and honest. One of us ordered their special seafood pasta entrée. It was literally filled with every kind of seafood save shark(LOL!). Judging by how the plate looked after the meal, it was delicious. The pastas were all tasty as well! Bravo!

As I mentioned in my previous review I returned to my favorite restaurant in the Gaslamp District and I am glad I did. When I arrived Annalisa their GM came out to greet me and my guest as usual. We had a nice table for two outside overlooking the passer-by’s as usual. It was a beautiful evening for dinning outside. We started with a bottle of Peligrino for $ 6 and my margarita for $ 9. We also ordered a bottle of Gattinara for $ 64. My Ossoboco Milanesse for $ 37.95 was great as usual. My guest enjoyed the special seafood combination for $ 36. After we ate our entrée’s Annalisa served us a complimentary dessert of carrot and moose cakes. My total bill less gratuity was $ 174. I will continue to return here.

It hurts so good! Ugh literally I’m so full! The Italian here is exceptional. The wine list was full of Italian greats. Really really good bread with tasty olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. The calamari with garlic aioli, and marinara was terrific, seriously unmatched by any where else. The Pasta Del Giorno was FANTASTIC!!! The seafood was abundant, they do not skimp on this dish. Everything was very fresh, and cooked well. The sauce that came with it was simply delectable, and did not over shadow the seafood. It had a light tomatoe, garlic, onion, and spicy flavor. The Lasagna Bolognese was delightful. The pasta was fresh, sauce was flavorful, and the cheese was smooth and creamy. Just like Nonna’s! The service was impeccable. Did I mention the restaurant is full of really good looking Italian waiters, WITHACCENTS! Yessss! My favorite thing was that the food came out so HOT(temperature)!! I love that!

4.5 Stars Great first time experience. They offer cozy seating inside but the best seats are outside on the patio. Our Antipasto included: CARPACCIOCONPALMITO — $ 16.95 Thinly sliced filet mignon, with hearts of palm, avocado, goat cheese & extra virgin olive oil. The carpaccio was thinly sliced and a very balanced blend of flavors. It was a nice starter and it went well with a glass of wine. The one hiccup in our experience was the fact we were served a rancid glass of Chardonnay. It was quickly replaced and we let it slide. Main entrees: FETTUCINEDISPINACIALPESCESPADA — $ 24.95 Swordfish sautéed in garlic & olive oil, cherry tomatoes, grilled eggplant, olives, fresh mint LINGUINEALLOSCOGLIO — $ 27.95 Linguine pasta tossed with clams, mussels, calamari & shrimp in a garlic & basil tomato sauce The two plates were large portions, perfectly cooked. The swordfish was delectable! It’s rare to find swordfish cooked to perfection. The grilled eggplant in the dish was slightly charred and sweet. The mussels, clams, calamari, and shrimp were fresh, sweet and tasted of the sea. Everything prepared in a creative fashion. Osteria Panevino is a great choice for a romantic, delicious, satisfying dinner. Considering the quality and portion sizes the prices are moderate.

In between 3 and 4 stars. Cute spot, seemed family owned, really nice service. It was cozy and homey, not to loud, tight squeeze but not to where your uncomfortably close to the next table. It’s expensive, but we were really impressed with the food. I expected less but the quality was good. The service was good, Esp the hostess who basically got us to come in, as we were walking down 5th trying to decide where to eat. Our sever was really good at first but then never really came back to check on us after the first bite. It’s ok, I like that actually, but some people don’t. She was a great server though, very nice, happy and was passionate about the food. Told us the specials very well and helped me decide which pasta to get. I was really happy with the service. The food was really good I had the lobster ravioli, it was quite good. Pasta seemed really fresh and well done. The lobster seemed like it might not have been fresh(probably frozen) but still really good. It had a lot of flavor and didn’t skimp on the lobster. My Boyfriend Got Some Kind Of Pork plate. It had mashed potatoes and spinach it was good but the potatoes could have used some flavor, salt maybe. He loved it. A classic, simple dish done very well. The wine by the glass could have been better, only a few glasses and they were very basic. Glad they had the Sonoma curter chardonnay. They had more reds than white. Better to get a bottle and split it, the bottle selection was much better. I enjoyed our experience. We Sat on the patio under a heater which was really nice. I recommend it for sure, it was pricy so it won’t be somewhere we frequent, but I’d come back if I didn’t want to leave downtown and was craving Italian food.
