The 2st Annual Paddle Around the Pier for clean water was one of the best ever! It had been smoldering HOT the previous 2 days before the Paddle, but the morning of Sunday, 09÷16÷12 dawned cool and even foggy! The heat wave broke just in time. As clean water enthusiasts gathered to enter the water, the sun came out and the water was warm enough to not even really need a wetsuit. I volunteered at the T-shirt table and watched the whole thing! It was so cool to see everyone in the water on behalf of clean water and supporting our beaches and bays. There were lots of families and kids there. A cool reggae band played music, There was free coffee, water and bagels courtesy of Hummingbird Coffeehouse. Cliff Bars was handing out free samples too. A man came out of the water and told me that when the group made it to the end of the Pier, the water was so crystalline clear, that you could see all the way down to the bottom! And it is DEEP there! Even the surf cooperated today – there were some good waves breaking. Awesome event! Awesome Day! Big thanks to Surfrider for working so hard to protect our precious ocean resources.
