Delicious sushi. Small place but the workers were super friendly and polite. Got our food fast. Hope you can use chopsticks, no forks. We would go again!

I was excited to try this place out based on the Unilocal reviews. The service was extremely slow and we had to flag someone down each time we wanted water or to order. We stared with garlic edamame which was good, and then our sushi came out-HUGE BLACKHAIR front and center! We pointed it out and the waiter said he was sorry. We still got charged for our $ 7 worth of beer and edamame. Not going back there.

PB Mika is probably our favorite sushi place in PB. Great prices and ongoing HH on certain days. Even when they don’t have a HH their prices are not too high. The staff is always very friendly and happy to help. Our go to rolls here are the Rainbow roll, Caterpillar roll and the spicy tuna roll. Recently tried the dragon roll which is also delicious. It seems they recently up’d their game and are making their rolls with fresher and more fish– yum! We also like to order the seaweed salad– it’s good, but my only complaint… get rid of the unnecessary lettuce and cucumber and give me more seaweed salad :) PB Mika is a smaller place, nothing fancy but good. I would recommend not going with a group bigger than 4 given the size of the place. Take-out on certain nights is a good idea.

i was pleasantly surprised by this place. I wanted to try a new sushi place and i saw this place was open past 9pm so my friend and i went. it’s kind of a small place but we were seated right away, drink order, sushi orders, and food came real quick. the quality of the fish was what stood out the most. their sunset roll and their protein roll tasted amazing. they always kept an eye out on our water and refilled it like 5 times without ever being asked(i go through water quick). i will definitely come back and i think i found my new favorite spot.

Best sushi ever! Such a small and PB town vibe… local stuff. My boyfriend and I are visiting SD and we have already gone for dinner 2x. Great prices too — bottle of pinot noir or merlot for $ 15. 50% off sushi rolls. Great value and price. Thank you!

YUM! Great food and great prices. The portions are actually pretty substantial compared to other sushi places. And the avocado tempura… omg… You haven’t lived until you’ve tried this! It is unreal! A lot of the rolls are also 30% off the majority of the time as well. My new favorite sushi place!

Way too sweet on everything, and not a lot of original flavor. Staff was very good, on the ball. But… needs to be cleaned better and the seating is really cramped, small stools.

The sushi is SO delicious! A little too much sauce. But HUGE portions! There are other sushi places in PB that cost the same, but are waaaaay smaller. The fish is fresh! The service is consistently average. But the food is amazing!

Good fresh sushi, sashimi and the rolls are good too. I went with my wife on a Sunday afternoon and had the place to ourselves for about an hour. It is a small place but most sushi bars are anyway. The service was good but something I’ve never experienced happened. We ordered hot tea and they didn’t have any. We ordered iced green tea, and they didn’t have any. The server lady said they had none today. I was like What? Anyway we had water since we had to drive home to Whittier. Try this place I think you’ll agree it’s good but bring your own tea. lol

Of all the sushi places I’ve been, I find Mika to be comparable to the best. The presentation is on point and I must say, their California rolls are EXCEPTIONAL. Since California rolls are the basis for many other rolls, it really comes out. This is the only place I go, specifically when craving a California roll, which isn’t normally a sought after item for me. The service is happy, feels very family, and is very relaxed. They are an absolute pleasure and of the many times I’ve visited for lunch or dinner, I always leave happy and full. My visits have all been for lunch and they have specials all the time. The prices are fair and justified. It’s SO worth it. I’ve never left feeling slighted or like I was broke from lunch. In most experiences we have 2 rainbow rolls, 2 California rolls, 2 California rolls with smelt eggs on top. Usually 2 or 3 bottles of hot sake and at least a couple other rolls. We always try something new. At least one thing. Haven’t been disappointed so far

The reviews got my hopes up. I loooooove a good sushi spot so I was excited to try out this place. First it is very small and hot. Super cramped so don’t come with a large group. The service was soooooooo slow. They brought out one roll at a time so it was awkward to just sit there while one person ate. I had the red dragon and another special roll(forgot the name but it had albacore) and they came out last & took forever. Every other person I was with finished their food before I even got mine. Not cool. They had a good variety and some pictures of the rolls so that was nice but I probably won’t come back.

I and my mom went to here today for trying!!! We got 3 rolls soft shell crab, scallop dynamited(I don’t remember the name of it just have scallop and baked) and dragon roll. The sushi rices so dry, seaweed so chewy although I’m a fan of seaweed. I don’t know if it’s happened to us because every rolls we tasted so salty anyway so disappointed with the sushi. Sorry we won’t come back again BLAME :(

I’m okay with cheap sushi, and I’m not at all a picky eater, but this place was just bad. I actually stopped eating. My biggest complaint was the fish on the sushi, it was warm! And mushy and gristly. After one piece of my Ryan roll, I just started pulling the fish off of the top. It’s rare for me to be grossed out by food but I just couldn’t. The construction of the rolls was poor as well. Couldn’t get one piece to stay together as I picked it up. I can tolerate sloppy sushi as long as the fish is good. This spot also isn’t good for groups of 4 or more. We were a table of 4 and all facing a wall. It was a hot humid night and their door was open so not a comfortable dining experience. No air conditioning. The staff was okay. No complaints there, other than kinda slow. The cucumber seaweed salad was good, nice presentation. Maybe it was just a bad night to go, but with ample sushi spots in the area, no desire to try again. Sorry :/

One of my new favorite places for cheap, no frills but good sushi! Why? 1. The customer service — our waitress was phenomenal! She immediately welcomed us with such genuine warmth and friendliness that it was difficult to not smile. She was very observant and would refill our waters and provide extra wasabi if we were anywhere near low. It’s not everyday that you get such attentive and friendly service! 2. Okay onto the food. The rolls are simple, good, and straightforward. My fiancée and I shared 3 rolls and we were more than satisfied. 3. An excellent happy hour. Here are the deals: Monday & Tuesday: 50% off sushi rolls(2−11pm) Wednesday & Thursday: 30% off sushi rolls(3−10pm) Weekend: 30% off sushi rolls(Until 7PM) Enjoy!

This place simply cannot handle groups. Since we went on a half-priced night, the place was super busy, but managed to push three tables together to squeeze 9 people into the space. Since the tables are backed up against the wall, it was a tight squeeze. Since it was such a big group, we had two waitresses take our orders on two tickets. Unfortunately, the waitresses got mixed up and gave people the wrong food. That wouldn’t have been so bad had the wait not been so long that everyone forgot their original order. The sushi was mediocre and only some of the offerings are half price on Monday and Tuesday. I’ve had better.

I just called for pick up and placed an order with the understanding that my rolls would be 30% off(see picture attached). The lady told me it’s excluding my rolls, which wasn’t stated on that flier. I feel like it’s their way to reel you in and then catch you! I also was a bit shocked by the cleanliness of the employees. My friend ordered a side of ginger and the lady who was handling the cash and credit cards as well as other items stuck her hand in the ginger container and slapped it into a to-go box with her bare hands. I thought it was a bit unprofessional and was a little hesitant in her eating it. It then happened a second time with a different friend and I felt embarrassed that I spoke highly of this place and had him witness that! When I’ve eaten here, the service has been somewhat poor. There could definitely be improvements, which is why I give this restaurant 3 stars rather than 5, and do to-go orders more than eating there!

I am usually a little sketchy about sushi places in PB but was pleasantly surprised by this one! Let me first start off by saying you don’t go here for the atmosphere or service. They are both sub par at best. However, let’s be realistic it’s all about the food isn’t it? My friends and I started off with some miso soup which was yummy and the perfect size! I was feeling hungry that evening and ordered 3 rolls… Very aggressive but so good. I ordered the red dragon, spicy tuna crunchy style, and tempura shrimp crunch roll. I also got all of them with soy paper which was only 50 cents more per roll, not too bad considering some places charge over $ 1. It took a little bit for all of them to come out but when they did they were very yummy! I highly recommend these rolls but probably ordering 2 for one person should be sufficient. On the weekends if you go before 7 pm its 30% off rolls but there’s a catch… it’s only off some of the rolls, and of course some of the ones I wanted were not part of this deal. The sushi was reasonably priced. Mika has great food. Mediocre atmosphere but definitely suggest hitting up this spot if you want some great sushi!

It is really frustrating trying to find a good sushi bar that doesn’t close in the middle of the day. It took me an hour of online searching to find this place. When I first walked into this place I was shocked to hear a language that I understood. No not English but Spanish . (Side note, The first language I learned was Spanish) I looked around confused, questioning if I had accidentally walked into a Taco shop instead of a Sushi shop. To my surprise it WAS a sushi shop and the sushi makers/cooks/chefs(whatever you would like to call them) were Mexican. Now I’m not racist against my own kind but I’ve never been to a sushi bar with Mexican sushi cooks. Our waitress however was Asian, probably helps with Japanese customers who come in. Hey, I’ll try anything once, let’s see what happens! Our waitress was wonderfully nice and provided very kind and friendly service. To a wonderful surprise my favorite roll, the dragon roll, was 50% off! I also requested miso soup before my roll. I always hesitate with miso because it’s always a hit or miss. When I finally got my miso I nearly devoured it in one gulp. After the first sip I fell in love, it was amazing! I instantly thought of the Oliver Twist quote, «Please sir, I want some more!» Shortly after that my Dragon roll came. It was amazing! The flavors were phenomenal! They took my favorite roll that I’ve gotten from every other sushi place and made it taste 10 times better. My only complaint about the roll was that there wasn’t a lot of eel sauce. But amazing none the less! Overall with the half price off dragon roll, miso and drink it only came down to $ 10! Cheapest place I’ve ever paid for great amazing sushi! Only reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the place is so small and you can’t really have big group parties. It’s either the bar or single tables that sit 2 people. Definitely would come here again! Everyone said goodbye to us and thanked us for coming. Great service, great prices, great food, can’t get enough!

If you’re looking for a fancy place to take a date — this is not for you. However, we wanted a causal spot we could enjoy fresh sushi and catch up with friends so PB Mika Sushi was perfect for us. Plus, Wednesday night select sushi rolls are 30% off and they have a sake bomb special throughout the night — score! The Mixed Tempura(3 pieces of shrimp and a variety of vegetables) was okay, but not great. I liked the assortment of vegetables: asparagus, sweet potato, mushrooms, and broccoli. But, the tempura was thick on a few pieces which resulted in it being undercooked. The Rainbow Roll came with the typical assortment of tuna, salmon, yellow tail, and shrimp on top of California rolls. The salmon pieces were particularly fresh and melt-in-your-mouth delicious! The Crunchy Tuna roll was made with fresh tuna, but it was buried under a mound of tempura flakes. The tempura had no flavor and actually detracted from the roll — lesson learned — never again! The sushi is quite fresh, so I suggest sticking to the sashimi and chef specialty rolls or plain sushi rolls rather than the baked or crunch rolls. Our friends enjoyed their pan-fried Gyoza(Potstickers) and Spicy Tuna Roll. Overall, we were satisfied and enjoyed our dinner. This is a small restaurant with limited seating, so definitely call ahead to make a reservation otherwise you might find yourself eating at the bar.
