Pilgrimage of the Heart Yoga

Pilgrimage of the Heart is a really great yoga studio in Normal Heights! They have a variety of classes to choose from taught by some really great teachers. I took my first Pranayama class yesterday after some initial hesitation (I was worried I wouldn’t be able to follow along and that it would be too difficult to maintain a meditative focus), and it was a really great experience. Lauren was a wonderful guide, I had no idea how relaxing and meditative breathing could be!

I began my pilgrimage at Pilgrimage (ha!) with the New Student Special (2 weeks/​$ 25) and fell in love. I’ve tried other studios in San Diego and I’m not sure I’ve found one as great as this! I had been feeling a bit stale/​plateaued in my practice but Pilgrimage pulled me out of that rut. The vibe is very welcoming, non-​judgmental, inclusive. The ladies at the desk always seem to recognize you and seem glad to see you, even if you’ve never been there! AWESOME.
Each and every teacher is knowledgeable, passionate, consistent, interesting, professional, and committed. The TWO studios (in great locations) offer a wide variety of classes and there’s certainly something for everyone.
Free meditation sits and lots of workshops!
Membership price is amongst (if not THEE) least expensive in San Diego ($ 75 unlimited/​month) and with the membership comes free access to certain workshops/​events/​etc. I’m not a member yet but am looking forward to becoming one in 2016.
My only wish is that they had MORE classes :) I’m often craving a class on a Sunday evening and the options are limited.

I have been a member for over a year. Every teacher has been incredibly knowledgable. I love that I can choose from so many types of classes and depending on how i feel I can give my body what it needs for that day or week. I highly recommend trying them out. I have really grown and become a much more centered person since becoming a member. Each class is defnitley a highlight of my day.

Parking was easy even on a weekday morning! I’ve attended a few classes under the two week $ 25 trial. They offer so many classes and I really like that they’re not all heated like lots of the fad studios around. In 8 years of practice the only time I injured myself was during a heated class. The instructors here really watch the class and ensure each individual is being safe and getting the proper expression of each given pose for that individual’s needs and ability. They also do a lot more coaching than other studios I’ve been to, where some instructors may just guide the class through the movement, the instructors at pilgrimage encourage and educate the students during our practice. I’m liking it so far, looking forward to trying more classes.

Great teachers, studio and classes. Only downside is the parking. Hard to find a parking spot.

I left San Diego in July and have been to several yoga studios in Northern California and Oregon, and I can honestly say that Pilgrimage of the Heart has the absolute best teachers around.

— AMAZINGLY TALENTED, COHESIVE WARRIOR GODDESS STAFF. Seriously. Each teacher has a unique lesson to share, so I highly recommend taking as many different classes as possible to determine who provides the best medicine for your soul. To this day, I still hear Heather, Alyssa, Kayma, and Courtney’s voices throughout my practice, telling me to lead with my heart, fold into myself lovingly and tenderly, and honor myself where I am, because I am already enough. I am reminded to root down through my well-​planted feet in order to create space to lift my torso and crown into enlightenment, and to hold for just three more calm, expansive breaths because I AM strong enough (even when my mind doesn’t want to believe it). And to remember to listen to my body first and foremost, nourishing myself whenever I feel called to do so.
I love how the ladies here are so passionate about empowering others through their practice that they go above and beyond to push the boundaries and try new things, being open and flexible to discovering what works best. I always do the fist-​in-​stomach child’s pose Megan taught us for improving digestion.
I could go on and on, but to sum it all up, I often dream of moving back to San Diego not for the perfect weather or beautiful beaches, but because I miss my family at Pilgrimage (including those I didn’t mention!). You are all beautiful guiding lights and I am forever grateful for having the opportunity to be your student, both on and off the mat.

I love Pilgrimage of the Heart – it will always be a second home to me. I have been practicing yoga for almost 10 years now – I started off at Core Power for 4 years and then decided I wanted to really dive into yoga – not just sweat my ass off and get in a good workout (although I get some of that at Pilgrimage too). Within a few years of practicing 4 – 5 times/​week at POTH, I decided to commit to Yoga Teacher Training – and I am so glad I did. Nikole is incredibly intelligent – like PhD level understanding of asanas and alignment. I got so much out of the experience and enjoy teaching family and friends when I can. If you are looking for a solid community with people of all ages, sizes, ethnicities and levels of experience, Pilgrimage is your place. Lots of really knowledgeable teachers and a wide range of classes!

I love this place. This is my favorite yoga studio. Each instructor brings themselves to their classes and really enriches the practice of all students in the room. I have been to an array of classes at this studio and have enjoyed every instructor. One of my favorites Is the meditation class on Tuesday evenings. It’s always great to take a mental break with a group of like minded people and a great instructor!!! Love this place!!!

Like The Beatles, you kon’t beat it! I go 8 Days a Week! More, actually. :) Both locations are convenient, it is reasonably-​priced, and includes Perkville, too. LOVE is the vibe that makes it all work. Of course it is! It is all about the heart, our pilgrimage to our heart, to find out who we really are. Then we can bring more love into the world.
Wonderful teachers, a variety of hatha yoga approaches from gentle to yoga 2 & 3, alignment-​based, vinyasa flow, heated, pranayama twice a week, meditation, bhakti-​drenched kirtan on Thursday evening with a beautiful kirtan band and much audience participation, plus intensives, seminars, one-​day workshops, many free with membership, and an excellent teacher-​training staff and program.
«Yoga will change you,» said one of my lovely teachers, and it certainly is doing just that, bringing all the benefits of sound body-​mind-​soul awareness to the forefront.

I love this studio ! The staff is really friendly and make me feel at home. The instructors all have their own unique style so no class is ever the same. Pilgrimage is as much towards healing as it is a workout !

This studio is amazing. The quality of the teachers is like no other. The classes are challenging and plentiful. Having two studios available for the price of one membership is super cool. I also always take advantage of the free yoga workshops for studio members. Also they offer free Meditation classes.

I looked into the idea of yoga, because of my friends.
I looked into Pilgrimage of the Heart because of the wonderful Unilocal reviews.
The membership options they provide are amazing compared to a lot of other places I investigated, and the staff I’ve interacted with thus far have been so helpful and kind!
The absolute only reason I haven’t bumped this up to 5 stars is because I’ve only been to each of their locations once, so I don’t feel I’ve had a full experience.
Both classes were pretty full, which while I do not prefer, I think can be expected for a place with such a great rating and price range.
I definitely intend to continue going here for the foreseeable future!

Where do I even begin? Pilgrimage of the Heart was rightfully named because this studio means so much more than just a good workout to me!
I started out with a 6 month membership that ended up lasting a year and a half! I really believe this studio is perfect for ANYONE because there is such an accepting and non judgmental vibe and adjustments –both harder and less difficult– are offered in any class. Staff is always kind and smiling and I cant speak highly enough of the instructors; my favorites being Lena, Megan, Rachel, and Shelby (but in reality they’re all great).
They’re so much more than just a studio that wants your money, they genuinely care about their members and are always offering events both in the community and with members only. They really embody the kind spirit that yogis have and I have learned a lot from them! Theyve even inspired me to look into YTT in the future, cant stress enough how grateful I am for this beautiful studio!

I have been a member here for 2 years and it has been a phenomenal experience. My practice never would have improved had I not committed to a membership and attended consistently.
The breath of classes here is unmatched by any other studio I have been to! You can attend high energy Power yoga or restorative healing Yin yoga and almost every instructor is well practiced, high quality and very consistent. Pilgrimage really takes the time to hire quality, experienced instructors.
The membership offered here is by far the cheapest in San Diego; I can’t believe they manage to maintain such high quality at such a low price.
I would give this studio 5 stars BUT
1.) The most incredible, encouraging, dedicated, effective goddess of a yogini has moved to Austin and its just not the same without her.
2.) They have cancelled the intermediate level AcroYoga class instead of just moving it to a different day.

Great class this morning with Nicole. Here on vacation from Chicago. So I stopped in to try out the studio. Now I’m feeling great!

I love going here. Every member of the staff has been wonderful and the atmosphere is welcoming. Not every teacher has been my cup of tea but they each have their own views and styles. Every class has been different. The locations are easy to find. If you are new or experienced I would recommend attending this location or the North Park location.

Whenever I think that I might prefer one studio to the other (of the two), one of them comes with an element to balance it out. I suppose that’s, in practice, how things are supposed to work with yoga. This one has a larger main room and I love that for packed classes. But it’s a little further from home.
They both have two rooms with a substantial size difference, a great selection of mats/​accessories, changing rooms, and respectfully restacked props. The teachers mingle between studios, but regardless of the studio, or class, they’re always amazing. Of course classes are more or less in line for what you need for that day, but I always leave feeling better than when I arrived. And that’s a wonderful guaranteed feeling.
Pilgrimage of the Heart is a special place and I’m super grateful to be able to practice there.

I was very nervous to join yoga. Since I had never done it before, i kinda felt intimidated. I heard from a few friends & clients that this is the place to go! Boy were they right. Everyone is warm and knowledgable. No judgement and everyone runs at their own pace.
I was in a car accident 11 years ago and had a double spinal fusion in my neck almost 4 years ago. Needless to say, I’m pretty much always in pain. My favorite class is Yin Yoga, taught by Shelby. It’s GREAT for people with chronic pain. Shelby is great at what she does, empathetic, gives so much individual attention to her yogis and very mindful. I love her style of teaching… Very warm & nurturing.
Ive had great experiences with other teachers as well… Meghan, Rachel & Kayma.

I love this yoga studio. All instructors are very kind. I feel very welcome with the staff, and students.
At $ 75 per month for unlimited yoga is the most affordable in town with quality. I wish they offered more heated classes through out the day.
I love the East room and currently obsessed with the rope wall yoga, and make it a priority to go on Thurs! I haven’t gone to North Park yet, but I’m very happy with the Adams Ave location! I also wish they had a private lot for parking but hey, it’s Adams Ave so we will just have to deal with it.

This studio (and the north park one) are just awesome. I’ve never felt so comfortable at a yoga studio like I do at pilgrimage. This refers to the staff, the students, everything. Everyone is so kind and warm! Right after I signed up for my membership, most of the staff knew me by name, after just a few visits!
Anytime I’ve had issues with my account or wanted to put my account on hold or what not, they are always so willing to help! It’s very rare to find a company that goes above and beyond in making their customers happy!
In terms of the classes, they are all great! They have a wide variety of classes and I LOVE that they offer both both hot and normal classes. In terms if teachers, Lina is probably the best for for me. Her classes are an amazing workout with a good amount of strength training and yoga practice.
Do yourself a favor, get a membership today! You will not regret it.
