Very interesting store, most items are wood, benches, chairs etc. Some items caught our eye while driving by so we decided to stop and take a closer look. The store was a little bare, but the items they had on display were unique and beautiful. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because we asked for the prices on a couple items and weren’t provided the information. The person who helped us had to check with someone who wasn’t there. We left out number but didn’t hear back. Odd if you’re in business to sell, but that doesn’t take away from the uniqueness of this store. Fun to check out if you’re in the neighborhood at the very least.

The artist/inventor/chef/carpenter/upcycler/high energy/prolific/super host Gustav Anders Rooth is one to know and watch. I want to add his special event, Barrel Smoker Dinner Series, as something that must be reviewed and it involves Gustav’s iQ Barrel Smoker — a wine barrel that smokes and roasts food. The special Chef Dinner Series involve our regional, cross-border talent who cook from the heart. Wine is always stunning, from wine purveyor, Fernando Glaxiola of Baja Wine + Food, who brings wines from Baja’s Valle De Guadalupe. These dinners are happening every third Thursday, each month. The space at Planet Rooth Design Haus sets the stage as it’s gallery«house» is ever-changing with the perfect Feng Shui’d fireplace and hearth located in the center of the house. The circulation and meandering«chi» or «us»(yes, in my world, we can be the chi) can flow easily from inside to the back where the cooking magic happens. Once your tribe starts to arrive, you can sip and see the incredible workshop, projects and tools, sketches on wood, painted«Lucha Libre» welding masks, wine barrel staves stacked with charred lining that have American bourbon stories to tell. Make shift music from a well selected Pandora-something always works. Graffitti pressboard mixed in with chards of plywood lining some walkways. Make shift counters with coolers of our coasts’ ingredients. iQ smoker barrels do their thing in the backyard lot, enclosed with smiles, sky and happy chefs sharing the warmest details. The space is 5 star as well as the people. And the people might actually be ‘stars’! I have gone twice for events and each time I am treated as a lottery winner. Everyone is warm, fun and interested in quality hang time. This is San Diego style. I haven’t even mentioned the food yet. The food. 5 stars. Full blown family style service of wooden canoe sized platters of food. A local farm is always involved besides the sexy wines, smoked meats and maybe a tamale or a barbacoa or a no need for a fork tortilla gets involved. This is a solid 5 star trust. Trust that you are in for a great time. Trust that you’ll meet new friends that love food, wine, art and design as much as you do. Trust that you’ll be back.

I would agree with the previous reviewer. All of my artwork in my home is framed by Ken Callaway. Sturdy, durable, and restores new life to familiar artwork. Highly recommended.

1000 Teddies looking at YOU! You’re in the spotlight when you see the 1000 Teddie Project art installation at Planet Rooth Studio Gallery. It’s a feel good art installation that will appeal to all ages. I was recently at Ray at Night in North Park last Saturday and this exhibit was super fun. Oh –and Philipp Jordan, teddy bear art extraordinaire was present during the exhibit.
