Rev-On Test Only

Had to have a smog check done at a test only station and it turned out this place was a block from home so without an appointment I left my truck around 2:30pm and told the guy I had to be at DMV by 5pm — he told me should be ok. I walked a block home and at 4pm they called and it had passed the test. $ 50, no hassle and a passing grade. I even made it to the DMV on time.

Went a couple times since its so close to my place, both times they told me it would take more than one hr to finish. I went down the street and got it done in 15 mins.

Please do not give these guys your business. Terrible experience and they couldn’t have cared less.
I took my car in at 1:30 pm to get the smog check. The attendant told me he’d need to wait for his coworker to complete the smog, and that this person wouldn’t be back until 1:00. We told him it was already 1:30. The attendant told us to leave the car, that he’d get his coworker back right away, and that the smog would take 20 minutes. I filled out the sheet with my contact information. We actually double checked with the attendant that the phone number was legible. We were told to expect a call in 20 minutes so we went for a walk around Golden Hill.
After 4 pm, we still hadn’t received a call. We walked back. I couldn’t find any workers there and I had to walk into their shop and wait for a while before anyone came out. The same attendant told me they could not complete the smog because their equipment was broken.
Giving him the benefit of the doubt and assuming he had just found out about the broken equipment, I asked why he didn’t call to let me know as soon as he had found out. He told me he had called me and that it was my fault because I should have checked my messages.
I saw the sheet I had filled out earlier sitting on his desk. It was the only one there. I was the only customer there and mine was the only car there. I asked which number he called. He made one up: he said, «uhhhh it started with 203…» (which, by the way, is an area code in Connecticut). I pointed to the paper with my number, my name, and my car’s license plate and reminded him that I had made sure he could read my number before I had left earlier.
The attendants didn’t care and offered nothing to make up for the situation. I took my car and found another place in South Park that got in done in ten minutes while we waited.

I have never written a bad Unilocal review before, because I think usually people need to get over it and move on, and also really consider their expectations considering price and location and whatnot, but this one needs to be done!
This is near my house and had all good reviews here, so I thought, perfect, I will run over, get some coffee and play with my daughter at Krakatoa while it is being done, then come home in time for her next nap, perfect. I check the hours, they are open, perfect.
I drive over, they tell me I have to walk across the street and tell someone at the other repair place that I am there for a smog check so he will come over and do it. Weird, ok, whatever. I walk over. He’s not there. The (very nice) woman working there said he will be back in an hour or two, come back, or leave your number, we will call you when he is back and you can come back. Ok, frustrating. I need to get this done today. I really want to get this done now, so as not to mess with naps of my sick and teething baby. So I told her I would just go somewhere else. She said, no no, do you live close? Leave the car, walk home, I will call you when its done you can just come get it.
Ok, that actually sounds like a good plan, so we leave the car and walk home, which now means we are stuck home without a car or a carseat for the day, that is fine, not ideal, but fine.
5 hours later (after she had told me 1 or 2 hours) they call. Great! It is raining now, less good for walking back, but whatever, I can come get my car in time to make it to the farmer’s market to buy dinner. But wait…
It isn’t done! They haven’t started! The mechanic wants to know if my car is gas or diesel (what kind of mechanic can’t tell if a car is gas or diesel, especially when it says diesel pretty much all over it to make sure you don’t forget and put in the wrong kind of gas!)
They can’t do diesel!
So now I have wasted the whole day waiting for this mechanic to come to work during what are their posted open hours and he can’t even do it, which is something they probably should’ve been able to tell me 5 hours ago when I still had time to find someone else who could actually do the service they advertise doing!!!
Sorry about all the exclamation points, I am super annoyed right now.
My point is, find somewhere else to go. They are not reliable, they do not have their stuff together, they will waste your time, it is worth driving a little farther out of the neighborhood to not have your whole day wasted by incompetence!
***UPDATE It got worse. They called me an hour later saying, ok, actually, it passed. I don’t know how this magically came to be, I’m not going to argue with it, went to pick it up. I get there, and have to deal with the whole, place across the street, thing again, whatever. So the nice lady takes my card across the street to run it. Comes back — their credit card machine is broken. She tells me I have to walk down the street to the liquor store and use their ATM to get cash, one of those liquor stores that charge you fees and then the bank charges you even more fees later. I say no. She gets on the phone with the guy across the street and they talk for awhile, then she puts me on the phone. The man tries to bully me into going down and paying the fees. I said no, it is his responsibility as a business owner and I’m not going to pay him the 50, I’ll pay him 45 to account for the fees. He tries to bully me some more, but I stood my ground. In the end I had to walk down and pay the fees, but only paid him 45 instead of 50.
When I tried to pay, all 4 employees refused to look at me, talk to me or take my money. I was looking them in the eyes and talking and they acted like I didn’t exist. I went back across the street and basically threw my money at the lady and demanded that she give me my car key. She tried to act all nice and like she totally was on my side, and said she would go tell them that I was upset about the situation, but really, I just wanted my paperwork that says I passed and my keys so I could get out of there.
In the end, 7 hours, some bank fees and a lot of frustration. I stand by my statement that you should really just go somewhere else and save yourself the trouble.

New ownership, $ 5 off not valid, ended up being about $ 50 don’t know if that’s a great price but it’s right by my house and I need it to re register my car tomorrow so oh well. Got me in right away and it didn’t take all too long. Nice enough guy.

Fast, easy, cheap

My car needs a smog check + Rev-​On is near my house + they have a Unilocal check-​in deal = I bring my car here for a smog check.
There was no wait when I arrived and smog check took about 30 mins and it cost $ 40 with the Unilocal deal.
Sadly, my smog check failed because my car is old and I haven’t given it a proper tune-​up in years.
Ay!
The guy was kind enough to refer me to a mechanic near my house that could potentially help me with my repairs, but alas I already have my trusty mechanic.
I will have to come back to re-​test.
Sorry I can’t afford a monthly payment on a Prius.
I’m gonna go cry now.

I went here on a Friday about 10am and did not wait at all. The guy there was really nice and to the point and got it done. He even checked by gas cap and noticed a small crack and advised me I should get a new one. This place only has one station so I could see where it could get busy and they don’t have a whole lot of places to sit and wait but they are right next to a market and a great pizza place so if you do need to wait there are places close by to keep you busy in the mean time. I would go back here. With fees I paid $ 45 and they are able to send it to the DMV electronically. Don’t be fooled, if you drive by and there are a ton of taxi cabs don’t think they are all waiting for smog. Most of the time they are all there for other services that don’t even use the same area as the smog station. But I could see where someone might just drive by because they think there are a ton of cars waiting.

I called ahead around 9am on a Saturday morning to check on the wait time — it was only 20 minutes. I dropped off my car and took a quick stroll to the Farmer’s Market (Saturdays on 27^th and B). Returned about 25 minutes later and my car was ready to go! The guy that checked me in and took my payment was super friendly and efficient — I was really impressed as I’ve been to other test stations where the vibe was not so pleasant.
I didn’t check out a waiting area (not sure if there even is one), but if it hadn’t been a Farmer’s Market day I would have waited at Krakatoa, an awesome coffee shop across the street.
I will definitely return the next time the DMV requires me to ;)

Brought my Lexus Is 250 at 12:00 and was done before I came back from lunch. Great service percise and prestine! Affordable and friendly service. No whines or complaints. Will recommend to friends and family. and only 40 $!!!

This business has moved to the corner of 25^th and B. There is another smog check business that remains at this address though.
