So I found out this is the OG original location of Rubio’s where it all started. Well as far as the food was it was just like any other one I’ve eaten at. Consistent quality counts for a lot. I was actually here while waiting to get into a super busy sushi bar across the street(no name mentioned since i have reviewed it separately). Got myself 2 chicken street tacos as an appetizer. They really hit the spot. Glad I stopped by.

I was in surprise here as the Veg Burrito was fantastic. I rate this above Chipotle’s Burrito. They have variety of salsas and you can take as much as u like! The service was pretty quick. This is somewhat smaller place and from outside its quite unassuming. But the flavor of the food makes up for the lacks in looks. I will definitely come back on my next visit to San Diego.

In town for business, and I always try to find local places. I grabbed a box of their chicken nachos, and I was not disappointed. I almost came back the night before, but chose to try another local place. Thanks!

WARNING! This place closes at 9PM not 10PM. The business hours on Unilocal are incorrect. I hope you read this information and avoid driving to both the Rubio’s in PB because they both say they close at 10PM but really its 9PM like I did. I went to the first location this past Tuesday on Grand at 9:05 to find it close. But I was craving their fish tacos so I decided to drive to this location since they also advertised that they were open until 10PM. I arrived at 9:15 to also find this location closed. I also called to see if they were still open before driving over there and no one answered. When I arrived I saw 2 workers in the shop that could have easily answered the phone to let me know that they were closed so I didn’t waste my time driving over there but of coarse that was too much to ask. LAMEEEE

Love to stop here after bike rides or airline trips. I think, this is the original Rubios location. Food is always fresh. the Coastal trio is a fav(tilapia, shrimp and standard fish taco) of mine. Good sodas too or pacificos! PIck a meal, squeeze a lime, add salsa and dive in baby. You’ll love it! One less * due to limited, challenging, just park across the street if you need to — parking lol.

First time having Rubio’s a mexican chain restaurant. I thought the food was awesome and the price was decent. I like the fact that everything was made fresh.

After three decades of eating their grub everywhere, I finally made it to the original Rubio’s location. What a dump. Same consistently good food as every other location. Friendly employees, too. But come on, gang. The floor, inside and out, was littered with trash and most of the tables were dirty and clearly hadn’t been bussed in awhile. And this was a Sunday afternoon and the joint wasn’t that busy. I know it’s PB, or close to it, but hey, Ralph, you let me down.

Good stop on taco tuesday(BOGO). Nice salsa bar. Not the freshest fish taco in SD by far.

Great food and fast. No matter how packed they are I always get my food within about 5min of ordering. The food is fresh and their citrus rice is so flavorful. I love the California bowl with green sauce! I also love that it is right next door to my office. I will likely become a lunch regular.

I have visited this Rubios on a number of occasions. Usually on the busy side but parking is a bear so it keeps many away. A typical Rubios except for the highway front noise on the patio(cars going by on mission bay drive at about 50mph). Today though I have got to call bs on the street tacos. I get these frequently — yes they are small but I just paid $ 1.99 each for the worlds smallest toy tacos. It appears they just made the tortillas really really small and put a few pieces of meat inside. Disappointing. I hope this was a fluke and not the direction this chain is going. Stay tuned!

Very good tacos and burritos. If you come in Tuesday Fish Tacos cost $ 1.50 oppose to $ 3.00. The only downside is the place is small so sometimes there is a long wait.

I’m in town one night for business trip. Rubios is next to my hotel so I thought I would give them a try. Delicious home made tasting food. I had the chopped salad with Tilapia and the famous fish taco. It’s truly better than some expensive Mexican restaurant. The salsa at the salsa bar was the best I ever had. The food was prepared fast and the staff was super nice. I’ll be back!

One of the most inefficient rubios I’ve visited… First off they desperately need a microphone especially because 80% of this establishment is outside! How do you tell people when their food is ready? Witnessed several people wait forever outside for their # to be called and have to go up and ask if the food is done !

From the outside, this original Rubio’s is tucked away and a little grungy looking. It’s got tight parking but what it lacks in looks, it makes up for in flavor. I’m a huge fan of the California bowl with grilled tilapia. Get the fish blackened if you like a little spice. One thing I don’t like about this location is that the salsa bar is outside in the open. For cleanliness, I’d prefer it inside but it is well maintained.

Always excellent. This place is right by my house, so I stop there more than I care to admit. I’ve had the fish tacos, shrimp burrito, shrimp enchiladas, salmon tacos, and a couple other things. Everything has been good, every single time. Always fresh, and I’ve never had to wait an unreasonable amount of time. Great atmosphere as well.

This place is surprisingly good. I love it was they make the tortilla of a burrito crispy. I got the Burrito Especial with guacamole and it came with chips and salsa. Would definitely come back.

The best Rubio s in San Diego! This place is always packed during lunch hour, but their service is AWSOME! The facility is always clean. I usually order the surf n turf or lobster burrito and I’m never disappointed!

This is the original Rubios. However, this is also the smallest of all the Rubios and it can be very crowded in front of the counter. A good tip is to call In your order ahead and then just pay. I ordered the chips and guacamole and was disappointed with the very processed guacamole — equivalent to from a bag! I do have to give them a big plus on the fish taco — it’s almost identical to northern Baja. Like all Rubios, they have a nice self serve salsa bar. All seating is out doors and very relaxing once your food is out!

This is the ORIGINAL location — at least according to the sign outside. It’s also walking distance to my house — DANGERZONE. This Rubio’s is on the smaller side with a small walk up counter for ordering and picking up food. Most of the seating, and even the salsa bar are outdoor. As I’ve said before — I like Rubio’s for their fresh tasting seafood, their effort toward sustainability and consistency. I know if I order a shrimp burrito at this location it will be nearly identical to the one I’d order near my office. A solid option for hangover breakfast often for me, and an A-OK seafood option for when I can’t be bothered to head down to PB Fish Shop. FYI — no beer or wine at this location.
