This is one of my favorite places to eat! I love the Salmon taco plate, tilapia plate, Mahi mahi, everything is so fresh and delicious. They even send me a free dinner for my birthday. I go here a lot and have never been disappointed.

Stan is amazing! I walked into Rubios at the lunch rush and waited in a long line, only to discover at the register that I left my wallet at home. Stan comped my lunch just to be kind so I wouldn’t have to run all the way home. His kindness brightened my day! Above and beyond customer service!

Came with 5 people today, everyone ordered different menu items and we all left happy. Staff was friendly, prices are fair and food comes out very quickly. The lobster tacos were very good, and the fish taco especial is always a great choice. The taco plates are great deals and their salsa options are refreshing and versatile. Always a great choice for a quick, cheap lunch

The best experience my wife and I have ever had at a Rubio’s. Stan was our cashier and waiter, and boy was he hilarious. Not only that, but made sure we and everyone around us had everything we needed. He made jokes with everyone and brought the whole restaurant together somehow. He deserves to run that place! We will be becoming regulars here now.

Steak especial burrito = waste of my money It was more like a rice burrito. There was very minimal steak pieces in there. This is the only location that was skimpy on the meat.

I always order the fish tacos and love how crispy the batter and cabbage always are as I bite into the tacos, the red salsa gives so much flavor to anything its placed on. I love having unlimited limes without having to bother the workers with the open salsa and lime bar with fresh ingredients and very clean. Even though it’s not a restaurant with waiters, the workers are still always very nice enough to take your food to your table or even pick up your plate when you’re finished(if they are not too busy). I rather always go to this place 4 fish tacos compare to any Mexican food joint

Rockin good customer service and the food is always good. This location is waaay busier than the local in El Cajon, who should feel totally shamed by lack of… everyting that can be good about Rubios.(they just don’t care about the customer) Back to the good: Point Loma and JACKIE. She made my day yesterday with her smiling disposition and delivery of my lunch with the extra side I asked for. Thank you Jackie :) So thanks to Jackie and Poiunt Loma, when I crave Rubios, I’m waiting until I can get it good — in Point Loma. Thanks guys

I’m surprised by how much I like the food at Rubio’s since it’s a chain restaurant. They have some really good fish tacos that are only $ 1.50 for Taco Tuesdays. The fish fillet is very large, and the variety of salsas at the salsa bar(love their selection of salsas as well as the chopped onions and cilantro) ensures that they’re very flavorful. I also like their burritos, especially the shrimp ones. However, I suggest avoiding the Classic Shrimp Burrito because it’s very bland(even with salsa). I recently had their special Tropical Shrimp Burrito, and it was excellent! The shrimp was very flavorful and also plentiful while the other ingredients helped accent the flavor. Adding the mango was a nice touch. Rubio’s has a sort of membership thing where you sign up and get periodic emails and occasional coupons. What’s really cool is that they give you up to $ 7 off one food item on your birthday. Last week I took advantage of this, but the result was very disappointing. Around 30 minutes after eating there, I became sick, which was very unpleasant. My girlfriend and I had shared the Tropical Shrimp Burrito that comes with chips. She didn’t get sick, but I did. The only other thing I had that day was two pieces of pizza, so it had to be something from Rubio’s. Deductive reasoning points to cross contamination of the roasted chipotle salsa which I had, but my sweetie did not. It was really sad that the special discounted meal is the only one that did this to me. «Happy birthday Jeb, here’s a free trip to the bathroom!» I know it wasn’t intentional, but it makes me apprehensive to return to this location.

Über clean Rubio’s. I was a little hungry and had time to kill. Got the ahi taco and a Negro Modelo. The taco was better than I’ve had at any other Rubio’s. But it’s the same problem with most fish tacos at chain places. They put too much fluff in the taco to fill it and it takes away from the flavor of the fish. Up your prices to make them right at the size your serving them, or go street taco size. I rarely go to these places because I live in the city and there’s a ton of places doing them right. But when I’m out in the burbs I’m always glad to have a Rubio’s option.

This review rates Rubio’s against other fast-food joints labeling themselves as «Mexican.» That’s how you write fair reviews. You don’t take a little chain like this and rank it against your favorite Mexican restaurant in Old Town or el Cajon or anywhere advertising authentic, homestyle Mexican, because it isn’t the same ballpark. It’s like comparing your Honda Accord to the neighbor’s BMW. Now, I don’t care if other reviewers classify Rubio’s as homestyle or even Mexican. Chipotle has been committing a felony by calling its menu Mexican for YEARS and no one seems to care. So, I’m over it. I go to Rubio’s simply because it’s fresh and consistent and I enjoy the calorie count on the menu. I could not possibly care any less if tourists go here or the food tastes like it was cooked in a Mexican woman’s house. I care that it’s fresh, tasty, quick, and cheap. And that’s what I get every time. I love the salsa, and I love a nice bottle of sangria for $ 4.50. It’s my opinion this Rubio’s is tops among local«Mexican» fast food, but leaving it as 4 stars just in case I find another spot better.

LOVE Rubios! I’ve been coming here for a LOOOOOONG time and will continue to do so for a long time to come.(I had one of my first dates in college 23YEARS ago at this Rubios.) I took my family on a weekend getaway to San Diego and we had to stop here for some fish tacos. The service we received was top-notch, too — better than I expected /remembered. I think most Rubio’s would probably get 3-stars in my book, but I bumped this one up to 4 stars based on the friendly and attentive service.

It took a long time for me to come around to the Rubio’s way of thinking. Thanks to the scars I carry from childhood, «fish taco» in my mind is a couple of those nasty, breaded, tubular fish-like sticks stuck in a tortilla.(Thanks, mom…) I had no idea that I could actually like a fish taco. The food is good and fresh. My favorite by far is the Pesky Combo, which comes with two fish tacos(in their«especial» version, with a white sauce), rice or beans and chips. It doesn’t sound like a lot of food, but it really is. Their roasted vegetable salad is also very good, but the dressing can either be too much or not enough at all. I guess it depends on who you have putting it all together for you. It’s just easier to get the sauce on the side. Their shrimp burritos and tacos are also good, and they tend to change up the way that they’re prepared and offered, which is nice. I love the flavor of their hot red salsa, and the fact that they offer up a carrot/jalapeño mix for you to munch on while you’re waiting for your food(or to take with you to go.) Having limes out for you to take is also a bonus for me, since I love limes so much.

I’ve yet to meet a person who doesn’t like Rubios. I love the food, love the options, LOVE that the HealthMex options don’t mean you get less quality or less food. I also love that you can order double chips on any plate rather then beans and chips. The salsa bar is pretty tasty too! They also offer genuine whole wheat tortillas! and serve Coke(hooray!) This particular location has really stepped it up recently. It’s always clean, the salsa bar is well stocked, and the employees appear happy, or at least smiling. I also appreciate the patience of the employees. Rubios seems to change their menus every month which drives me CRAZY! I order pretty much the same thing each time, but like to mix it up every now and then, but with the new menus I’m lost! I usually stick to Health Mex Chicken Taco plate, double chips(no beans) and love it. The quantity of chicken and chips varies, but if I ask for more chicken or chips, they always provide. My hubby loves a Bean and Cheese Burrito, add chicken, on a whole wheat tortilla I’ve never had a hard time finding a seat at this Rubios, but that could be because of the crazy small parking lot they share with(4) other restaurants. This is our favorite Rubios: easy to get in and out, on the way home, never too busy, clean, well staffed and friendly!

I love Rubio’s & their salsa bar. This particular location… not so much. Salsa at the salsa bar tasted bland for some reason(unlike the other Rubio’s locations). Maybe some were watered out… and some weren’t so fresh. Ordered the lobster tacos for the first time — -they look like crawfish meat rather than lobster? It was not good at all! I’ll stick to the original fish tacos! The La Jolla location is still my favorite Rubio’s! Consistency, every time!
