This place is great… if you like flavorless, dry, almost inedible food. I can’t for the life of me understand how anyone could give this place anything more than one star. It is foul. And it is pricey for the hole-on-the-wall feel and low quality ingredients they use.

Good price, good food, fast service. No complaints! …okay, there could be more parking, but otherwise no complaints.

We are long time fans of Saffron roast chicken which is probably the best in SD. We pick up 1.5 chickens every week along with their delicious chicken salad rolls, which we did just a few minutes ago. But we feel the place is getting run down. The lack of cleanliness is getting out of control. The windows are covered with fingerprints and the floors are really dirty. In my opinion this warrants a city inspection. PLEASE clean up your act!!!

What’s the deal here?! Friends and neighbors like this place. I gave it a second chance last night. The chicken was dry and tasteless. Service just OK Totally unremarkable would be a kind comment. There are much better restaurants around.

Consistently good. The ginger tea is a must. Everything else is a solid choice for Thai food. It is on the higher price side of Asian food yet the cashier mentioned the ingredients are only the best so if that’s true, I don’t mind paying a little more for quality.

Saffron is A-OK. I agree with the other reviewer in that it used to be really good until the food became inconsistent, which is a disappointment to me, because I use to really love eating here.
I love that they highlight Cambodian cuisine and offer a Cambodian salad which is on point, refreshing and delicious. I’ve had their chicken, noodles, and many of their stir fry dishes which have been good but not excellent. I would however, advise against ordering their soups. I felt in lacked in flavor and tasted bland. It has been quite some time since I’ve eaten here, but I’m willing to give Saffron another try.

What happened to this place? Used to be good 2 years ago! Chicken was warm. Rice is not of quality Jasmine. Noodle soup broths taste more watered down than usual. Servers are hanging around talking. I see dust everywhere & this place needs a lot of upkeep. I ordered pork Tom yum noodles but got chicken instead. I also ordered half chicken combo and the only thing good was the sweet chili sauce. I prefer warm peanut sauce too. Not cold! You don’t serve Pepsi because you don’t like processed sugars?! Do the customers feel the same?! I also tried the mango sticky rice. NOTFRESH! Sticky rice tasted like a stinky microwave. Coconut milk was too runny. Mango was sour & not fresh cut per order. Its garnish was the only thing delish. This restaurant needs to bring back its old ways. It almost seems like they just stopped caring.

Worst thai I’ve ever had. The curry is bodreline tasteless and really runny. Not to mention the lady running the place is extremely rude. No thanks! Wont be back.

The food here was terrible. The egg rolls were dry and tasteless. The. Spicy wide noodles with chicken also dry as hell and all i could taste was way too much ginger. I wont be back.

This place has really gone downhill. I ordered chicken wings and there was blood running from the bones and into the rice. It was so disgusting. I threw it away in the trash. The noodles I had were overcooked and soggy and had a very odd taste(oyster sauce may have been old possibly). Sorry to say, the blood did it for me and I won’t be returning. The reason for the extra star is I received good customer service.

Bland taste. Hard noodles. Dry chicken. Sadly not worth the effort to find parking. Not a fan.

This place used to be a lot better. Bathroom was messy and dirty, the food was bland, the girl who brought our food was overtly rude, and the food was not cheap. The somewhat positive and reason I didn’t give it zero stars: the girl who took our order was nice and accommodating, the chicken wasn’t dry, and the spicy tum yum shrimp and shiitake mushroom soup was delicious(but very small for $ 9.00). The whole chicken was fine — juicy and moist — and the satay was moist(but bland). For the negative: the shrimp garden rolls were boringly bland and the egg noodle soup was really bad — the noodles were disgusting. The chutney was crazy sweet and the peanut sauce was very bland. The rude waitress really bothered us. She was purposely verbally rude and mean. She was condescending and snapped at two people in our party. She dragged the rating from 3 to 2 stars. We paid $ 85 for four people — ridiculous and not worth it.

I love this place! This is the place to go for some roasted chicken and rice. The chicken is nicely marinated and goes great with the taste of the rotisserie. You go in a pick what part of the chicken you want, want rice you got(jasmine rice too), sauces, and if you get the combo it comes with the Cambodian salad which is great as well. My close friends who I eat with frequently can contest to this I am a sauce girl. I like combining the sriracha hot sauce with soy sauce and lightly dipping my chicken in it while I eat it. Perfect, a little salty and spicy. Parking at times can be a pain but to me it is worth it. This place does also offer traditional Thai noodle and rice dishes which are great as well but I come here for their rotisserie chicken! Get some gelato from down the street too!

Great taste and very reasonably priced. There is no table service, but they pick up when you are done. The Pad Thai with chicken was tasty and a big portion. Plenty of things on the menu, as well.

I decided to celebrate a milestone birthday and ordered food for 10 great gals. Henry was very helpful in suggesting a generous cold food menu: 7 shrimp salad rolls, 7 salmon, and 7 chicken. The shrimp were my favorite. He also suggested the Wednesday special chicken salad(for 15 people = 85 $). That seemed pricey for a salad BUT there must have been 5 pounds of white chicken meat with cucumbers and other veggies with a sweet salsa dressing and a HUGE side of red organic Thai rice. To get the 10% discount, I took my own containers to the restaurant the morning of the party. The party was elegant and the food was very impressive. I was proud to recommend Saffron to my guests. The rolls were divine with peanut sauce and a sweet chili sauce. The salad was so tasty and healthy with enough left over for a small army… Henry made sure to package everything carefully, advised me how to construct the salad, and helped me carry everything out to my car. Thanks for making my birthday party a gastronomic success!

Being very generous with two stars. For a place that’s been open for years and with its local celebrity reputation you think they could clean this place up a bit. You get the feeling from the menu that this is a healthier style of Thai cuisine. Hmmm, to me(and many other reviewers) the dishes were pretty bland. Sure, you can dress up your meal with sauce from your table, but why? That stuff looks old anyway. — Owner has a local TV show which really doesn’t put herself in a positive light. She’s rude, offensive, and at times even makes Ozzy Osbourne seem coherent. — Don’t go here if you’re a tourist. Plenty of better tourist options on this street. — Fountain soda behind the counter. — Utensils, plates, and extra napkins are not readily available. — The glass jar table condiments are just filthy looking(though this is something I’ve seen at other places too). Months of sticky fingerprints on the glass. — The sate chicken log was very dry and unappetizing. The Rotisserie chicken is the star here at Saffron, so getting anything else will lead to disappointment.

This place us rather interesting. The food was okay but the service was a little odd. I came in and ordered the Pad-see-ewe with chicken at $ 8.50 a pretty good price. The serving amount was good with a moderate amount of chicken.( ) I liked the addition of the broccoli which was cooked well to a tender al dente. The chicken was pretty food, render and such, but a little lacking in flavor.( ) If anything, I think it just needed salt, because the soy flavor was very mild. The flat rice noodles were good and had a nice chewy texture.( ) All in all, a good serving of Pad-see-ewe, but what I found a little off putting, was the service. You order and the counter, and the guy who took my order was a very uninteresting fellow. When I say uninteresting, I mean he gave off a feeling that he did not care whether you were there or not. Not a good feeling when you are looking forward to a good meal. At any rate, I ate me food, got reasonably filled and left. I even said thank on my way out, but got no response. Perhaps he did not want to be at work on President’s Day.

We stopped by Saffron after buying our Xmas tree. We ordered the ½ chicken combo, Tom Yum soup, Pad Thai chicken and a egg roll. This is my third time here and each time I tell myself I must have ordered wrong as the food is always average at best. The service is great and workers are nice, but for the price, they are no better than 3 stars for me. The chicken was rather bland and dry. We did the saracha and sweet pepper sauce, which was pretty tasty. The soup was very flavorful, but could of used a free more pieces of shrimp. Lastly, the egg roll and chicken pad Thai were just Ok, nothing special.
