We came on a Sunday, visiting from out of town. We stopped to look at the menu at 4pm and a local was waiting for the place to open. He recommended it. Looking at the other ratings we were skeptical, but we decided to try. We are used to places that have no frills and you can relax, even if you bring your kids. We didn’t have children, but others did in outside seating. One waitress today and very efficient. It got busy as we were there and she handled LARGE trays of drinks and orders. If you are in a hurry, don’t come here. We like to relax, enjoy the food and talk to each other. We didn’t wait for our main course more than 20 minutes. The waitress got our drinks out quickly. The food: yes the bread had a little bit of a broiler burn on one edge. If it had been more than I like, I would have sent it back. We got bread with garlic and one loaf just toasted with butter. Good bread too. I liked the option of smaller portions on some of the meals. A lot of food if you are ordering the full meal. You could share the portions. We didn’t think the food bland or overpriced for the portions.

Food was bland and over cooked. Wait was long. Prices do not reflect food quality. Damn if it wasn’t extraordinary next door wouldn’t bother coming here

One of the best Pizza’s I’ve ever tasted. I don’t understand why so there are so many 1 star reviews. The food may have took a short while for it to come out but in my opinion you can’t rush the cook! I would definitely go back!

Wow. Burnt garlic bread and a pound of pasta with«meat sauce»(couldn’t find a single piece of meat) for $ 13? Would have cost me $ 5 to make at home. So basic and so boring and overpriced. Thanks a lot

This is the worst Italian restaurant. The food is disgusting. I will never go there again.

Diner beware all these 1 star reviews are true if you want a timely meal and service don’t eat here they even drop the ball at 3pm with an empty restaurant. I was here for a business lunch last week and enjoyed the pizza so I tried to pick one up on my way home about an hour ago but am now home very hungry with no pizza because they didn’t make my order and then instead of offering a discount or solution expected me to wait 40minutes for a small to go pizza so I got my money back and left. I couldn’t find a legitimate menu with pricing online so I ordered my simple to go pizza in person. I was told it would be 15 minutes after I ordered and payed. There was one order placed directly ahead of mine and 2 more after. I went outside to wait and watched the man who took my order wander around aimlessly for 20 minutes without acknowledging me. I realized that the order before mine had already had salads and their main corse and both orders after mine were also being served so I went back inside to inquire about my order. Once the man noticed me he nodded and said«about 15 more minutes» obviously forgetting he’d told me 15 minutes total originally so I replied«another 15? So 35 minutes total for a to go pizza?» he looked confused so I said«I ordered more than 20 minutes ago» then he seemed to remember and ran over to the order tickets and said«I apologize it takes 6 minutes to cook once it’s in the oven» so I said«so you fulfilled the orders after mine and didn’t start mine?, I’m not ok with waiting 35 minutes for a to go pizza I could have sat down for a full meal somewhere else in that time» so I was told it was cooking but then watched the owner run into the kitchen and pull out pizza dough without offering any solution to forgetting my order or even a real apology for wasting my time so I walked back up to the counter and said«since you haven’t made it yet I just want my money back» he threw his hands up at me and angrily gave me back my cash. Terrible service and attitude don’t see it lasting much longer.

This was some of the worst Italian food I have ever had. The waiter took so long to wait on me that I had to go to the bar and get my own drink. Then I finally got to place my order and it took so long to get the food. When the food finally arrived, it did not look appealing at all and seemed like the ingredients had gone bad. I tasted a few bites and it was terrible. The prices were also too high for the food that I’ve got, especially since the food does not taste good. I will not been visiting here again.

I knew something was wrong when I walked in during lunch and Sanfilippo’s was completely empty. This is a place I would expect to end up on Kitchen Nightmares. The location is superb. The lot itself is wonderful and the exterior is appealing, which I can see is what would lure the unknowing patron. But once inside you’re ordered to take a seat anywhere unless it’s a take-out order you are placing. It is then you start to understand why the place empty. The menu is simple enough that you would not expect much of a wait time for your meal, especially being the only party on the premises. Well, you would be wrong to assume that. It took much longer than expected for my experience that I got up and asked mine for to-go. It then came out faster than other people in my group who ordered much simpler dishes. Price and quality are both poor. Customer service is bad. The saving grace here is that I highly doubt any of the above is done intentionally by the staff. This place is in dire need of new management or at the least, a complete restaurant makeover. From top to bottom, the menu, the attitude, the prices, the quality, the hustle and customer service all need massive investment. I am honestly shocked this place has stayed open so long. Overall, until Sanfilippo’s changes its ways, I would avoid it and go somewhere else.

We have been enjoying date night here for a couple of years now and love it everytime. The staff is always nice and the Lazagna is always great. The pizza isnt our thing here but all other items we have tried are great.

Italian casserole was great. My favorites were the beef ravioli and lasagna. The eggplant sandwich was tasty too.. easy atmosphere and $ 10 pitcher of beer. good break close to balboa park with ample parking next doors.

Came here with the fam on a Saturday afternoon. We ate outside. No one else was there, so that was cool. We ordered a pepperoni pizza and a bowl of spaghetti. Both were delish!

Don’t mix this place up with the ORIGINAL Fillipi’s, it’s not even close. This guy is a total hack. When I walked in to grab my take out he took the time to demean his staff in front of me(luckily I was the only customer). If you think his manners are bad try his food. Actually why are you still reading this review? Shouldn’t the first sentence have sent you packings? Anyways, the sauce is too sweet, everything is pre-made and frozen, don’t ask how I know, you just KNOW when you grow up in an Italian family. Even if this guy wasn’t a mini Musolini to his staff, I still would be back for a can of Spagetti O’s or Hamburger helper. Ciao Boo

This has been our go-to pizza spot for over a decade. The sauce is perfect, casseroles amazing & pizza super cheesy & always delicious — so much so we even order it to go for beachside picnics & friends’ potlucks. Owner Joe treats you as he’d want to be treated. Find Stacey working & you’re always in good, caring hands. May you enjoy San Filippo’s as much as we do! Mangia, mangia! :)

This is my go to for pizza. The special pie is my favorite. The crust is always perfect and the ingredients never fail to please. I also like the meatballs and lasagna. I can not comment on the service because I always call in my orders to go. Joe usually takes my order and it is always ready in 15.

I was skeptical of this place due to the Unilocal reviews, but it was legit. I went with some co-workers for lunch recently and the food, especially the red sauce, was really good. The sauce was zesty and full of flavor with a touch of sweetness. I had a meatball casserole and it was awesome. The bell peppers were cooked to perfection and the dish was layered in tons of cheese and sauce. The atmosphere is great for lunch with a large outdoor patio. I am not sure I’d rush here for dinner, but I’d try it for happy hour on the patio.
