Couldn’t really find anywhere else to eat, so we ended up finding this place. We were seated right away and the server was quite nice. After ordering, our food came out fast. A lot of the dishes we ordered were VERY sweet. Even fried rice was… Sweet? The pad thai was über sweet. So I stuck with the beef and chinese broccolli. As I was eating, I looked down on my plate and seen a hair. Whatever. I don’t really mind for it. I’ll get grossed out and stop eating, but I looked closer. It was a strand from a STAINLESSSTEELSCRUB. I don’t caaarrreeee if it’s a tiny piece, but I believe consuming that would be SO dangerous!!! So I had to stay something. All the girl did/said was«ohh.i’ll take this out of your way.» Take my plate out of my way. That’s it. Not even a sorry. Or «OMG»

This place is the sister restaurant of Sang Dao. Everything is basically the same which is nice because Sang Dao is pretty good! I have tried a few dishes here like khao poon, drunken noodles, lard na, khao piak, boat noodles, tam muk huong, fried chicken wings, beef salad, beef jerky, pad thai, sauteed mussels, catfish dish and their bbq beef. Everything was yummy except for the khao poon that I wasn’t really a fan of. It was too salty for my liking plus I always compare it to the homemade kind. They have this sauce for the bbq beef which is really addicting. I seriously cannot figure out what’s in it. All I know is that it was so delicious, that I asked for extra to take home one time, and our server was so nice enough to let me. hehe. The service here is pretty awesome! The girl with long black hair always serves us everytime we go. I love her outgoing and bubbly personality! The owner was nice as well. If youre too far from San Dao, I recommend to come here!

I’m always down to try a new Thai place! Sang Deuan is ONPOINT. I got their Panang Curry and it is absolutely delicious. It wasn’t that busy so you’re guaranteed to get a table.

My family came here for dinner amd we had a great meal… we tried Lao Sausage, sticky rice, Larb, Phad Lao & Papaya Salad Lao Style… all were good, but i have to warn any body who are not used to smelling fermented ingredients in their food, this may not be appealing to you since it is an acquired taste and definitely an unusual smell for a lot of people… if you are brave to try new taste or just love all ethnic food then you have to try this great food… eat slow and enjoy…

Love this place! I love Sang Dao but it is a little far compared to this place and it’s practically the same. I got the papaya salad(Lao style) and the khao pek, and they were gooood. The papaya salad was perf, my mom is from Laos and she makes amazing papaya salad so I know good papaya salad when I have it and this one was good! The service was nice and it is a bit bigger than Sang Dao. Will def come back!

Love love love this place! First time here because I was recommended by one of my friend to try this place. They made good papaya salad, Khao piak, and Khao poon. Lovely services. I ordered the Lao style papaya salad and it was delicious~ Best papaya salad I’ve tried since the move to San Diego. The beef larb was also good. Would definitely recommend this place :)

Thai food is trendy. Vietnamese cuisine is wildly popular. But Lao? I’ve never even tried it until adulthood! And only because my S/O’s family spent some time in Laos and I got to have some bomb food at their family gatherings. The first time I came to Sang Deuan on a weeknight, I tried their mee gatee based on Unilocal recommendations. It was great flavor, but not my personal preference. My absolute favorite is khao poon, so I was excited to learn they started offering khao poon EVERYDAY instead of weekends only! The soup takes forever to make, so I am surprised they are stepping up to offer it all days of the week. It tastes just as good as my S/O’s mother’s recipe. Another rice noodle soup they offer that I really like is khao piak sen. This is a great«hangover» soup if you are bored of having phở after a ratchet night out. ;) I really hope this business does well. Their food is solid and I will be back again and again!

I am so glad my friend recommended this place! Not one single dish I’ve tried was sweet, which usually how Thai dishes are prepared to accommodate Western palates. I was surprised to actually taste the different flavors and it’s complexity. So far I’ve tried panang curry, som tam thai, pad see ew, pad kee maw, fish cake, satay, masaman curry and they are all really really good. I can’t wait to try their other dishes. I’m sure it’s gonna be awesome!

Oh yes! How can I not write a review for this place? A sister restaurant of Sang Dao and it is much closer to us! Score!!! We love it here and service is excellent as well. Pad see eww: so delicious, they use fresh noodles and Chinese broccoli so it’s just like what I’m used to in Thailand. Panang curry: on the watery side but the flavor is there Papaya salad: I’ve had both Thai style and Lao style. Both delicious Grilled bbq pork, Nam Kao and other items are also great! If you are looking for authentic Thai/Lao food now you don’t have to drive too far!

The angel wings were novel… a boneless chicken wing stuffed with egg roll like filling deep fried and served with sauce. We also ordered some kind of beef and broccoli, while simple, was very delicious. We had two orders of me getee(rice noodle with lemon grass in curry soup). I also ordered pad lar which is like pad Thai but less sweet. It was okay but would not order again. we also had three flavored whole fried talapia which was different. Server was very nice, politely answering all our questions.

Sat down this time for weekend lunch, pretty quiet out. The staff was friendly! Ordered the Tom kha kai with tofu, Spicy fried rice with pork, and chicken satay. 3.5 Stars The chicken satay was a bit over cooked, but the golden crispy surface was really good. 4.5 stars: Tom Kha Kai soup: upon looking up the recipes and youtube videos, I discovered that Sab-e-lee’s probably the more authentic version, because it is super creamy due to the large proportion of coconut milk, albeit the pork was overcooked. This broth is typically eaten with rice(why didn’t I think of that?!). Anyhow, Sang Deuan’s version is lighter when drank by itself. I still like it though. Spicy fried rice: pork is cooked just right, fried rice requires«wokness» and it’s got that and not too oily. yum.

I just wrote a glowing review for Sang Deuan and don’t know what happened to it. Anyhow, Sang Deuan is the new sister store of Sang Dao. Anyone who knows me know that I love eating at Sang Dao. So just imagine my excitement when I found out that they opened Sang Deuan just a few blocks from where I work! If I could, I would eat here every day. I get everything medium spicy and it is seasoned to perfection. My recommendations: Som Tum Lao Style(papaya salad in medium spicy) Pad Siew Crispy chicken wings Lao sausage(with sticky rice) Mango Sticky Rice Everything is reasonably priced and although the location is in a tight little section with limited parking near The Original Pancake House, I don’t mind it just as long as I’m there for pick-up before lunch time.

Sang Deuan is an easy miss amongst the plethora of Asian establishments along Convoy St. The opening reviews were positive, so I was hopeful that this place could compete with Koon Thai(which is just in the next plaza over.) Upon looking over the menu, there was nothing that really stood out as «Omg… I need to try this.» I went with the phad prik khing with pork, which unfortunately fell extremely flat in terms of flavor. This tasted like an ordinary stir fry, with just a hint of spice.(I wish they would have asked me how spicy I would have liked it, but they didn’t.) I wish Sang Deuan the best though!

The BEST Thai/Lao food in SD. I have only gone here twice and overall we have ordered 10 – 12 dishes. Everything single dish I’ve tried was either good or great, nothing less. It is my new favorite Thai food place :). Also the service is great and they always keep your water full. If you are a fan of payaya salad, you must get it here :). The crispy whole fish is great too! The dishes I have tried and loved include: Payaya Salad Crispy Fried whole fish Pad Thai Pad Lao Chicken wings Roasted duck curry Tom Yum Beef jerky Drunken noodles Mussels! Fried rice(I forgot which one we tried though)

Comparable to its sister restaurant, Sang Dao. It’s funny because I think I actually like this place better than Sang Dao’s. It’s closer to me also so woo-hoooo. Plenty of parking in the plaza. The interior is spacious and much cleaner + modern compared to Sang Dao which is a plus for me. Family oriented with great customer service. We met both the wife and husband operating the restaurant — both very sweet and welcoming people. You can’t go wrong with the papaya salad, beef jerky and sticky rice combo. A classic combination that never fails. I would recommend Lao style papaya over Thai because it has more flavor. Exactly the same as Sang Dao’s recipe. Now you must try the MEGATEE! It’s a rice noodle dish that resembles pad Thai and curry. Perfect combination of sweet and sour with a light coconut kick that will leave you satisfied and craving for more! I loved every surp and the cucumbers that helped freshness the soup. My first time having this dish & it’s my new found love, not kidding. MEGATEE please. This is ultimately why this location beats the other. It’s nice to have this Thai/Lao restaurant added to convoy. The best on the block if you ask me.

Never knew this place existed! I came here for dinner with a friend and it was empty so I was a little worried that it wouldn’t be too good. I ordered the beef larb I usually do at Thai places. The larb came out in a very big portion! And it was also really good. They actually put a lot of cucumbers here which I liked. It was overall a good experience. Service was good. The workers checked up on us a few times. Very quick and attentive. You also get a free drink if you check in!

This restaurant has a mix of traditional Thai and Laos dishes and is a great place to try if you like the flavor profiles of Thai food, but want something a little different. Their Thai tea was exceptionally good and had just the right amount of sweetness. The milk that they used was extra creamy and went down so smooth. Plus, if you check in for the 1st time on Unilocal the 1st drink is free! Can’t beat that! The Mee Gatee was also very good. It’s basically a rice noodle dish topped with ground pork, peanuts, mint, bean sprouts and topped with a coconut curry. Not quite soup, but not quite a dry noodle dish either. The flavor reminded me of a mix between a Pad Thai and a Panang curry, so a little bit on the sweeter side. Very interesting flavor! Overall, I really liked the dish except for their liberal use of bean sprouts. I’m not a big fan of bean sprouts and the dish was kind of overloaded with it. I would definitely request less of it the next time I come back. Will definitely be back to try more!
