They have Filipino food as well. Came here because I needed ingredients for a Filipino dish I was planning to make. Prices are very reasonable. Pretty great local Asian market

This place is a dump! I think theyre trying to out-do that Gala IGA in South Park; annnnnnd i think the Gala is now closed for business! The ‘security guard” at the door is a nice touch though. Avoid.

I think this is a great Asian supermarket, and the selection and prices are very good. I went looking for something that is no longer available at 99 Ranch, and the clerks were friendly and helpful to a gringo. Parking and access are also way better than other similar places.

I ventured in here recently as my new house is just down the street. They have all the staples of an Asian market. The staff was friendly and I found good deals on some stuff. They carry a wide range of different types of products but the flip side of this is not having as many specialty items as stores like 99 ranch. The produce dept. was fairly small and didn’t have the selection that other Asian markets have. Next time I will probably make the 10 minute drive to clairemont unless I need a basic item in a hurry.

Don’t go here for organic produce. You will, however, find rock bottom prices on produce, asian foods and seasonings as well as meat(if you trust it). People are somewhat friendly(they’ll help you find whatever you’re looking for but you have to ask and you will not be greeted upon entering). They offer freebies from time to time(free salt with the purchase of $ 25, free rice, etc.) and is a quick in/out shop.

After many logical attempts at Som Tom in Thai restaurants, I missed the way my Thai friend makes it, so I went to SF Supermarket to grab the ingredients I need to make it on my own. This is one BIG Asian market. They carry Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Cambodian and Laotian varieties of just about everything from canned goods to fresh produce to housewares to fresh meat. The butcher counter is GIGANTIC and the meat looks fresh. I wandered around trying to find a shredder(I know… white boy… I don’t have the talent or the patience to chop fresh papaya into shreds for Som Tom). Got to the right area but after searching all the shelves in the small kitchen implement area, I was at a loss. I walked up to the register and and asked one of the clerks where I could find a shredder to make papaya salad. The first clerk said«No English» so I asked in Thai. When I got a blank stare and a gesture toward another clerk, I moved down the line. The next clerk was from Thailand, and when I asked in Thai, she replied in English. We went back to the small kitchen implement spot and she said it would be on the second shelf, just might have to dig through a few spaces. I started on one end, she started on the other and we worked toward the middle. Just as we were to meet up, she showed me the shredder and told me I apparently got the last one in their inventory. As she walked back to the front, she remarked that she would let the manager know. I continued through the store, finding fish sauce, papaya, garlic, tomato, thai chili and limes. Of course, right outside of the produce section, I spotted Chinese sausage, so I had to grab a pack. I even found the mortar and pestle that works so well when preparing this dish. Prices are very reasonable… and they have less expensive milk than my local grocery or the big chain grocers(Vons, Albertsons, Ralphs) so I will certainly return for more staples.

SF Supermarket has a lot of variety, such as fresh produce and snacks etc. It is bigger than Ranch 99, so it is logical that they can have more products for customer to chose. The prices are quite similar. REMEMBER to see the expiration for every item you try to buy! I saw so many canned food, dried noodles or even pickles sat on the shelves with an expired date. Yes, nobody walks the canned food aisle. Imeat sometime looks good if they are on sale. won’t either, but I like the fresh produce, snacks and drinks. Again, make sure you check expiration dates before you buy!

This place replaced Vien Dong XXXXXIIIIV a while ago. During the first few weeks after the grand opening, there were mobs of Asian families here. Everyone wanted a FREE bag of 5lb Jasmine Rice, instant vietnamese coffee, instant noodles, or 2liter Pepsi bottles. With that said, OFCOURSE me and my momma were here. several times in fact! My momma even hustled the guy for an extra bottle of Pepsi! I heard the Dim Sum place next to the supermarket was good and cheap eats too. Overall, they’ve got a large selection of produce and seafood…

typical Asian supermarket, but less crowded than 99 Ranch. you can grab a quick bite from the yum cha dim sum next door, but better get ready to fight to put in your order.
