This is my new favorite brunch spot. I’ve been here about 5 times now and love it. Located on ECB, it’s right around the corner from my place, parking is plentiful and I don’t do brunch if they don’t do bottomless mimosas. The french toast, scrambles and grilled cheese are excellent and you can’t beat $ 8 bottomless mimosas. There are tons of comfortable booths and the service is excellent — plus they have cool art on the walls. Last time they brought out lingering table the most delicious dessert — a mexican chocolate brownie with ice cream, caramel and sea salt. so good! Definitely go here; I’d like this place to stay around a while!

3 Stars with room for improvement. It might have something to do with what I ordered because my friends enjoyed what they got. Walked in on a Friday night and it was pretty empty which was surprising to me. Maybe 2 or 3 other tables. The place is very nice on the inside, a lot nicer than you would expect from the outside. I was in a burger mood and the description in the menu sounded good. I asked for my burger to be medium well. It came closer to medium — medium rare but that’s fine with me. It just made the burger a little harder to eat since it was drippy. As far as the burger goes, I’ve had better. The patty wasn’t very flavorful or seasoned and the bun a bit meh. The fixings it came with very fresh and plentyful. The best part was the shoestring fries. I could have eaten a whole plate of these as my meal. So good. My friends ordered pizzas and said that they were great. So I’m willing to think that SoHo can get more stars if I ordered something different. All and all I’m definitely willing to go back and try this place again. The shoe strings fries make it worth another trip.

Hmmm, this place is a solid three stars. When I called them last Thursday, I made our reservation for 7:30. When we got there a little after, I was a little surprised that there was only one couple dining. Service came from the bartender/server. She brought out our waters and our wine shortly after we were seated. The menu was okay. The entrees on their menu weren’t screaming at me, so it took me a while to decide what I wanted to eat that night. They also serve pizza, but I wasn’t in the mood for a pie. My boyfriend got the flat iron steak accompanied with mac & cheese and I finally decided on the citrus chicken with rice & green beans. We also shared the pear salad. The dressing was way too tangy, but since I was hungry, I managed to balance out the tanginess with the walnuts in our pear salad. Overall, the salad was simple and it could have wowed me with a little more pizazz. They provide you with complimentary flat bread with a Tzatziki sauce. That was good, we ate all of it! I did noticed that for it being just the two of us(and another table of two girls that got seated next to us shortly after we arrived), our entrees took a long time to come out. Overall, my dish was not the best. My citrus glazed chicken was overpowered by the citrus and the chicken was not worth the $ 14.95 we spent for that entrée. I was expecting maybe a quarter cut chicken, but I got a thin, boneless slice that left me wanting more. My boyfriend’s steak was good, but I enjoyed the mac & cheese most out of this night. We didn’t stay for dessert… Hmmm, I miiiight go back to SoHo, but maybe just or their happy hour. When there are so many other restaurants offering great meals in our Groupon manic world, it’d take another good offer for me to return back.

I just realized that I was a glutton after coming here tonite. Although not required per the Unilocal coupon, I decided to get at least $ 40 worth of food and beverage… and this is not sushi either… and I’m eating by myself. So here was today’s hit list… Pint of Racer 5 beer Garlic flat bread Aged cheddar hush puppies Lamb Burger with Fries Picante Pizza Mexican Chocolate Sundae. If you don’t berieve me… take a look at pics… uh oh… getting a little puffy. Aged Cheddar Hush Puppies — combine this with their cajun creole mustard… score. Pretty fattening though. Garlic Flat Bread — I think this was free since I didn’t order it. Oh well, pretty good, drizzled with some olive oil. Dip this into the creole mustard. It will give you that umpfh factor. Lamb Burger with fries — actually not a fan. Even though it was cooked«medium rare» it was to dry for me. The meat would also break off and continuously fall out of the bun. I guess they they didn’t pack it tight enough. Picante Pizza — pepperoni, chorizo, and a bunch of vegetables. Thin crisp crust. Nice and spicy. For dessert I got the Mexican Chocolate Sundae. Perfect for one person. Thank god. Banana, whipped cream, vanilla ice cream over a brownie. Yummmm. Décor was pretty cool… chic design, with a bunch of paintings with just women on them. The staff were super friendly. Very attentive and hospitable. This is one of the many reasons why I love North Park… score!

$ 9 unlimited mimosa weekend brunch? how can you not be down?!? i grabbed a bunch of my friends and we came here today with every intention of getting our money’s worth in mimosas. i’m pretty sure we did. i’m surprised it wasn’t more busy on the weekend, but that’s ok, that means more attention for us! our server was super personable, attentive, and chill… i think his name was beau? that’s what someone at our table told me… haha he was patient as we waited for the rest of our party arrived(i’m friends with a lot of laggers), and our glasses of mimosas were never empty. i like that they leave cranberry and orange juice at your table and just refill your champagne when necessary… that means you get to mix in the juice and control how strong you want it. the food was good and prices reasonable. i got the surf and turf omelette, which came with shrimp, bacon, and some kind of cream chese, along with a side of toast and potato things… everything was delicious… portions were kind of small though. i’m a small girl and i usually don’t finish my food. but i finished this with ease. the aftermath? half of my friends that were supposed to go watch harry potter with me knocked out. too many mimosas!!!

I bought the Unilocal deal where I paid $ 20 for $ 40 worth of food, so we feasted! –Woodfired Mussels: Some of the best I’ve ever had. very plump and served in an amazing wine(?) sauce. Would definitely get this again. –Mediterranean Eggplant: Super greasy! It was served with bread, tomatoes(the only good thing about this dish), and tapenade. –House Salad with Steak: Large serving of mixed greens with tomatoes, cucumbers, and pine nuts. The greens needed to be cut a little more… there were seriously little bushes in there. The medium steak was a little on the tough side. –House Salad with Chicken: Didn’t try. –Spinach Ricotta Pizza: It would be good except the ricotta was weirdly sweet — almost tasted like it was mixed with honey. My dining companion didn’t like the fact that it didn’t really have sauce — it was basically crust, cheese, spinach, and more cheese. So if you’re a saucy pizza person, this is not for you. Bill came out to just over $ 50 before tip and Unilocal deal. Service was great. They greeted us as we walked up to the restaurant and were very attentive with making sure we had everything we needed. But there were only 3 other tables there, so it shouldn’t be all that hard anyway.

4 ½ stars(I rounded up this time) Came here for weekend brunch, mainly because of the Unilocal Deals coupon($ 20 for $ 40 worth of food and drink) I was pleased to find out that it was also good for alcohol too! Awesome! I ordered the Croque Monsier(smoked ham and swiss on a crusty bread with aiole) sounds so simple, but it was really, really good! Top notch ingredients and technique went into making this for sure. It came with fresh cut fries sprinkled with fresh herbs. For the record i don’t like In N Out fresh cut fries, but these were done the right way! My friend got the Morning Pork Burger. Luckily I invoked the«half-seez rule» and got to try half. It was flavorful, tender and juicy, it came with breakfast potatoes which were a bit on the oily side but very tasty and done perfectly. I also had a glass of wine which came in a mini carafe, half was poured into my wine glass at the table. what a cool way to serve wine! Such service! I couldn’t believe that i was the only customer there! The food is top notch, it’s listed as «New American» but there’s lots of French technique, they really should be charging more!(but don’t tell them that) This place is a hidden gem. Im glad i bought 2 of the Unilocal deal coupons! i’ll be back to try the dinner menu.

I think we have been here 3 times in the last few weeks. 1) We tried out the new brunch menu. I love the $ 9 all-you-can-drink mimosas of course! They give you a glass of champagne and containers of orange juice and cranberry juice on the side so you can mix your own. None of that watered down crap you get at other places with refillable mimosas. I ordered the Colorado Omelet, yum. Their awesome sandwiches are also on the brunch menu… I definitely recommend the Grilled Cheese with fried tomatoes and the Chicken with bleu cheese sandwiches. We also got some complimentary pancakes to try… they were gluten-free with berry sauce and vanilla maple syrup. 2) I bought one of the Unilocal deals $ 20 for $ 40 of food and drinks. We used it on the night before Halloween when everyone was in costume. I read another review(which has since been filtered) about how unsanitary and unprofessional it is to wear costumes. I think that person really needs to lighten up. Anyway, the food was excellent as always… I tried the flat iron steak… cooked perfectly. 3) Stopped in again last night, ordered the Hush Puppies as an appetizer. They are great with the spicy mustard. Then I ordered the Tilapia Fettucini which has capers, olives, and lemon. So good! Thanks SoHo for being consistently delicious! Also, to Beau for being a great server.

Thirsty Thursdays! Are you thirsty? Is it Thursday? Then you are in luck, my friend!!! Every tap is $ 2 off on Thursdays :-) And they have some great taps: Airdale Dark and Stormy(hmmm…take it from an expert: 3 of these on an empty tummy, and it’s party time!), Racer 5, Stone Smoked Porter, etc. Approximately 8 taps AND, the prices are great to begin with — $ 4.5 for a Racer 5? Yes, please! Tasty food, and I am always happy with the service. No, I don’t like El Cajon Blvd either, but just forget that part, and enjoy your time in SoHo.

WOW!!! That was an incredible experience that my wife & I just had at SOHO. We went to celebrate our 13th Wedding Anniversary and everything was perfect. The only bummer is that I could not get a martini, it’s not their fault though. I know how hard it is to get a full liquor license. Damn ABC& Vice can be brutal. We started with Wood Fired Pequillo Peppers app and it was awesome, My wife had the Moroccan Spiced Meyers Flat Iron Steak and it was incredible, their chef’s know what they are doing. The only thing we thought that could improve that dish was maybe a little veggie added to it, otherwise it was the bomb. I had the Lamb Chorizo Orecchiette and it knocked my socks off, so many flavors it was a party in taste bud town. They even threw in a free Mexican Sundae desert for our anniversary while I had stepped away to the restroom. Sneaky, but very appreciated. Sorry, I forgot our servers name but he was stellar. Big Ups to the SOHO!

I’ve been meaning to drop in ever since it opened a few months ago, since my kids go to school right across the street(yes, in addition to LIPS there’s also a fabulous montessori Children’s Creative & Performing Arts Academy right next door — that’s North Park for you), and I’m so glad I finally did. We went for lunch right when it opened at 11 am, and the service was so friendly and attentive. The menu was very interesting and almost everything on it sounded good. We tried the wood-fired shrimp pizza w/goat cheese, pine nuts and chimichurri and it was excellent. I loved the fresh, tender micro cilatntro on top. Also tried the salmon wrap, which was an interesting mix of flavors — not sure I’d order it again, but loved the side salad w/fresh vinaigrette that came with it. Prices are pretty reasonable: mostly $ 8 – 12 for lunch for sandwiches, salads, burgers or pizzas. I definitely recommend it, and plan to come back — next time I’d like to try the veggie pizza or the grilled cheese sandwich w/avocado…

I went here for lunch recently. I really wanted to like this place before I went to it. I was happy to try another place on El Cajon Boulevard that I expected to have a Pomegranate-like vibe. A diamond in the rough. Unfortunately, Soho didn’t quite live up to my expectations. There were pros and cons about the whole experience. I love the layout. We got a booth in the bar area where we could watch the Spain/Portugal World Cup game and still be comfortable. They have good beers on tap: Stone Levitation, Stone Smoked Porter, Yellowtail Pale Ale, Trumer Pils, Racer 5IPA, Shinerbock Hefenweizen, etc. The campy art on the walls is fantastic. We ordered our beers, and the server brought them over quickly. I ordered the grilled cheese sandwich and(after much cajoling from the waiter) my date ordered the lamb burger. There were a total of three parties in the restaurant, and it took them at least 30 minutes to bring us our food. I don’t mind waiting that long during dinner, but when it’s my lunch break and there is barely anyone else there I can’t understand why the food can’t be prepared more quickly. That said, my sandwich was the best grilled cheese I have ever had. Multiple kinds of chedder with thick slices of avocado and tomatoes that are breaded and fried before being placed on the bread. FANTASTIC. After the server assured my date that the lamb burger was«the best in town,» it was understandable that he had high expectations. The burger didn’t live up to the hype for him… the aioli overpowered the taste of the meat. He mentioned that they should serve the aioli on the side. Also, the house made chips that are served with the sandwiches are greasy for my taste. I might give Soho another chance for dinner. I feel like I could better enjoy the atmosphere if it’s dark outside. There were a lot of small things that Soho could have improved on. It just didn’t quite get there.

Food, Service, and Atmosphere are all awesome! As soon as you walk in the door you will notice the strange and interesting local artwork. The menu is eclectic with a fusion of many different flavors. The music is hip. The staff is attentive and kind, although it seemed like a relatively slow night. Not to mention the awesome deal they offered on Reader Steals, we bought two. They start you off with flat bread with some kind of green spice and olive oil. This was a nice change to the customary bread and butter. The first time I came here I had the BBQ ribs with a goat cheese tamale and cherry sauce. The ribs and tamale were delish but I could have done with out the cherry sauce but I’m biased I hate everything cherry except for the actual fruit. Boyfriend had the southwestern caesar salad that was nothing to write home about. Ooh how could I forget about the shrimp and grits we had, one of my first tastes of the South and they were fantastic! The second time we came back we shared the chicken poblano for an appetizer and that was delish! The caramelized bananas and poblano sauce were like heaven in my mouth. Boyfriend opted for the lamb burger while I stuck with the cheeseburger. Both were served with yucca fries and homemade ketchup. These meals were super fulfilling and left us mouth-watering. Who knew we could find a nice, yummy meal tucked between a pawnshop and a bail bondsman on El Cajon Blvd.

Soho Restaurant & Lounge North Park San Diego May 7, 2010 This place is right off El Cajon Blvd. It was easy to find between the Royal Pawnshop and T-mobile store and it was easy to find parking behind the Aladdin Bail Bonds. We were seated right away by the curvaceous hostess into a booth on a slightly lower level. The couch was quasi-suede and table had a large surface area. We faced a wall of high end cartoon art with the kitchen’s wood fire stove in our periphery. To start, I ordered a bottle of Sebastiani Merlot for $ 30(not bad). The waiter checked our IDs and joked that we were all the same age. We ordered two small plates: Wood-fired Pequillo Peppers Stuffed with Goat Cheese and Fried Cactus with Cilantro-Crème Fraîche for $ 6.50 Each. Then we received seasoned pita bread. Pequillo Peppers were perfectly sweet. The goat cheese, roasted garlic cloves, and toast points were a great counter point. However, there were only two small peppers and four large pieces of toast and the peppers did not have any smokiness to suggest it was in fact wood-fired. The Fried Cactus Dish was overly fried but the cactus itself was prepared well. It was not slimy and was quite crisp. The sauce drizzled on the top was amazing even if I had no idea what it was. We ordered for our main course: Bacon-Wrapped Meatloaf($ 15.95) and Braised Meyers Beef Short Ribs($ 18.95). My Bacon-Wrapped Meatloaf was more like meat loaf topped with two pieces of bacon. The flavor of the bacon did not infuse into the meat. The Mash Potatoes really were horseradish mash potatoes because all I could taste was horseradish. I enjoyed the Fried Leek strings and the vegetables were well cooked. The Veal Glaze Ketchup could have been good but my tongue now only tastes horseradish. The Girlfriend’s Short Ribs were great. I should have read the Unilocal reviews before going like she did. Out of the few tastes I received, I will say that the sauce was well balanced in sweet and savory flavors; the Tamale was surprisingly not dry; and the«Peruvian Cherry Salsa» was another unidentifiable but delicious element to the dish. Overall, a decent dinner for $ 100.

Alright, I was pretty stoked to come here for dinner. My foodie friend and I had noticed it had been hot on Unilocal this week so we gave it a go. But, I really hate to say I wasn’t super impressed. Perhaps lunch is a better menu? I found the food to be slightly above mediocre and the service was good, but not exceptional. Although I do commend the manager stopping by a couple times to check in on us. I had the shrimp pizza, which was tasty, but much more spicy that I anticipated. The appetizer we shared was a goat cheese stuffed pepper, which was better than my entrée, but not by much. The flatbread they served us was doughy, yet buttery, so I really enjoyed that. The interior is lovely, though. I enjoyed the art and the high ceilings were a refreshing change to the typically cramped restaurants I typically dine in.

We had a Reader steals deal for this place and went for lunch last Saturday. If not for the coupon, we may have walked right back out as soon as we saw it. This is most definitely NOT a place to take kids even at 11:15AM with the entire place empty. We felt SO out of place. The décor is very artsy. The place looks like a lounge. The usual clientele of SoHo must not have any kids because not a single person showed up(other than us) the entire time we were there. Even though the restaurant opened at 11 and we showed up at 11:15 or so, the staff was still setting up, cleaning and vacuuming the place. It did not add to the chilly atmosphere. Aside from the lack of ambiance, the service was fine and the food was delicious. Rather simple, but prepared perfectly. We tried the goat cheese pizza and the lamb burger. The burger was served with a beautiful simple salad of greens and was probably one of the best burgers I’ve had in a long while. Not that I eat too many of them. My husband thought the feta cheese overpowered the meat, but I had to disagree. But the meat was very mild, almost not lamb-like except it was far juicier than beef ever could be. The pickled onion relish on top was the best part. I thought this was a well balanced, tasty burger. The goat cheese pizza was really good as well. It came with pine nuts and chimichurri sauce. The crust was excellent, the flavors went well together. All in all, we were really happy with the food. But this restaurant is not appropriate for a family with a small child.

This is my first review in 3 months and SoHo is the lucky restaurant to get chosen! =P My girlfriend and I were hungry and couldn’t decide on where to go for dinner tonight, so we decided to look up whats«Hot on Unilocal.» SoHo was the first place to show up on the list, and after reading all the reviews from you lovely Elites, we decided to come here! Once you arrive and go inside the place, you would no longer think that you are in the Nutty P’s. This is by far, one of the nicest restaurants on The Blvd. Though it doesn’t feel like you are in NP with the ambiance and décor, they still keep it OG with a ton of artwork from locals, which is what the Nutty P’s is known for. What really attracted me to this place was the rabbit meat that was on their website’s menu. Too bad when we got there, they just recently took the rabbit entrees off the menu. But its all good! There were still plenty of things to choose from! We decided to order the lamb burger w/goat cheese, cilantro chicken pesto wood-fired pizza, and a small dish of cheddar-filled hushpuppies! Right after we ordered, one of the servers came by with a lovely plate of flatbread for us to start off with. Man, that stuff was bomb! We were both starving and ended up killing the entire plate within a minute or two. The food came pretty fast, took about 15 minutes after getting our orders taken down. I have to say that the lamb burger was one of the dankest burgers I’ve had in ages(besides Hodad’s =P). I asked for it to be medium rare, and it came out just perfect. The lamb patty was flowing with juices, grilled just right! Charred on the outside, full of flavor on the inside! The goat cheese also complemented the burger very well. For those of you who really enjoy lamb and don’t mind the scent, goat cheese tops it off like no other! This dish comes with Yucca fries, which had a unique taste. Very crispy on the outside like any other fry, but smoother than your typical potato. The cheese filled hushpuppies were mediocre, you pay $ 6 but for only 4 pieces. They just didn’t have the texture and taste that would make you want more. Maybe I’m too spoiled with all the soul food joints I’ve hit up in southeast. The cilantro pesto pizza definitely hit the spot though! The cheese was just perfect, not greasy in any way and full of chewiness! It was topped off with a ton of bell peppers, onions, of course cilantro, and there was a lovely, tasty layer of pesto right underneath the cheese! Oh man, after writing this paragraph, I’m considering going out to the kitchen and eating the last 4 slices we had left over! Overall, I’m quite satisfied with our choice of dinner tonight. Portions are quite decent, and the presentation of the food is very good! I’ll have to come back during their happy hour specials. This is definitely a new gem in the Nutty P’s that you all need to check out. =)

Over the last several years, North Park has seen an amazing amount of gentrification. Even still, despite everything that has changed many things have stayed the same. You sometimes have to dig to find great places, but trust me — they are there. Tucked between a pawn shop and a bail bondsman is SoHo Restaurant and Lounge, inside what used to be Vesuvio. When you walk in it’s obvious everything that’s change, and everything that’s still the same. The carpet and moldings around the floor are(I’m pretty sure) the same. And as cool as the booths are, they’re all 4 tops making it rather difficult to have a party bigger than that(they struggled the night we were there with another party that had 6). The heart and soul of the location, however, is completely different. I don’t know that I could classify the food beyond the«American(New)». There’s Italian influences, Latin-American influences, …, but at the end of it all it’s just great food. After starting with the flat bread(which was just flat bread), we moved on to the mussels and mini-rabbit corn dogs. The mussels were very good, and had a nice kick to them. The corn in the corn dogs unfortunately overwhelmed the rabbit sausage inside of them, but were good — as was the homemade mustard they were served with. Between the four of us our entrees were the rabbit sausage pasta(very tasty), the salmon(again — very tasty), and the short ribs. If you decide to order the short ribs you will have to tell the rest of your table to keep their voices down as they’re so tender they’ll just fall apart right there. The flavor is absolutely out-of-this-world — not quite life altering, but pretty darn close. We moved on to dessert(despite having little room left) and split the Mexican chocolate sundae(which was more a brownie sundae with a sauteed banana that was unreal) and the beignets, which were deep-fried goodness. Don’t let the neighborhood and location fool you — this is a great place. They do, however, have a couple things to improve upon. The carpeting has got to go, and they could also think about shading the skylight a bit more as it was overly bright inside the restaurant for the atmosphere that I think they’re going for. If they do that, I’ll come back and give them the fifth star. Until then, though — 4 stars and a must visit from yours truly.

He: Do you think we can find parking? Me: Good question… wait…why don’t we try that new place? Up for an adventure? He: Sure, why not? Soho is a diamond in the rough, but in the sense of the surrounding neighborhood which can be a little sketchy. Upon entering, it does have the feel of not being on El Cajon Blvd. A rich wood bar and booths of neutral gray? or is it taupe? Either way, the art really stands out. There’s even a patio out front, but then again, we’d feel like we were on El Cajon if we sat outside. Currently, they only serve wine and beer. I’m not sure if they will be serving alcohol. I really wanted a big martini, but we settled for a Malbec from Argentina. We started with their Chicken Mole Poblano, which was quite good except for the few small bones I bit into. However, the sauce was tasty in the traditional sense. We then shared the Pear Salad which was a mix of arugula, watercress, candid walnuts, bleu cheese and sliced pears. The watercress added a unique flavor. Very good! They also serve a fresh baked flat bread with herbs and garlic. We also shared the Cilantro Pesto Chicken Pizza which had a very good cilantro flavor, but a little bland overall. This was the only disappointment. We also had the Moroccan spiced flat iron steak which came on top of Israeli cous cous but it was the pomegranate demi glacé that really made the dish! We topped off the meal with the Mexican chocolate Sunday and the Almond Brioche bread pudding. The service was excellent! Our server was very attentive, as was everyone except the female, who looked like she didn’t really like her job. It was a very enjoyable evening. We thought the music was a little eclectic, old school/vintage rock and roll, which was a little loud at the beginning of the evening, but then leveled down. There were quite a number of diners from different walks of life. We will definitely be back. He: What do you think? Me: This was a fun place. Now to face El Cajon…

Ya know how sometimes you wish that you ordered what your dining companion did? That happened to me here only I wanted both mine and what my friend got. I’ve been on a lamb kick lately so I couldn’t pass up the burger that featured my flavor of the week, but the short ribs that my buddy Jake let me taste were off the chain! I contemplated knocking him out so I could eat the rest, but decided assault for short ribs wasn’t totally worth it even if he was ripping on me the whole meal. I’d also recommend the goat cheese stuffed peppers for an appetizer. If you like jalapeño poppers these are a non-deep fried, more sophisticated version of the tasty treat. The cheddar hush puppies are also notable taking deep-fried dough to a new level of cheesiness. The restaurant itself has a rad interior decked out in some freaky deaky local artwork. The owner told me he’s going to rotate out the pieces allowing local talent to showcase their skills while customers chow down on some bad-ass upscale comfort food. The pieces in there right now made me contemplate whether or not I was on shrooms.(Look for the video game and Muppet collages) How often can you say that about the inside of a restaurant? Our server was very pleasant making some great recommendations of what to try on the menu. An art student herself she was also nice enough to give us a small history lesson since my friend and I don’t really know jack sh** when it comes to the realm of art appreciation. Even my meat and potatoes buddy Jake was dazzled by SOHO. He never likes anything that isn’t simple, and as we walked out he said to me, «Damn, that was good!» I can honestly say that the experience here was one the best I’ve had in recent memory. Don’t let the location scare you away from this new gem of a dining establishment.
