Good breakfast and very large portions. Most of the staff is older which is fine with me. They can give you a hard time, but its fun and enjoyable. The menu is very large with food from many different locations around the world. Its worth the trip.

This is probably my favorite breakfast coffee house in San Diego. Try the hobo omelette just with hashbrowns and English muffin. Super nice waitresses good service. Many good breakfast and lunch choices.

One of the three great places I’d recommend for home style breakfast/lunch in San Diego. Gyro plates are the bomb, ridiculous size orders.

Came here this morning and ordered the Mediterranean Omelette. It was pretty good and the hash browns were amazing. Our waitress was not bad, but she seemed really stressed out and pressured. Then again, there were a lot of people so it could happen to anyone. Ambiance was pretty old school, but overall I liked it. Will most likely come back to try the french toast.

Love this place ! Parking is great. They’re known for their toast, very delicious. They’re plates are big so I usually don’t order a lot. The waiters are super friendly and attentive.

When the waitress brought my order to my table my eyes got big, the portions were humongous and the food looked great. I told her I wouldn’t be able to eat all of it and asked for a to-go box. I put half of the food in the box, drunk my orange juice and was ready to dig in. I bite down on a piece of the chicken fried steak and almost fell out of my chair. It was the worst thing I ever tasted. I looked around to see if anyone was looking at me, because I knew I must be getting punked. I looked back down on my plate and could not believe this food that looked so inviting was HORRIBLE.
This place has the worst food EVER. I had the chicken fried steak, unfortunately it didn’t have any steak in it. It tasted like day old dried dough with wet flour on top. The potatoes tasted like they came right out of a box off of the refrigerator floor and they were cold. My big question is, how can anyone mess-up on potatoes? The eggs were ok, but the coffee tasted like water. I told the Manager I was not happy with my meal and she said she was surprised, because she never got any complaints about the chicken fried steak. I find that hard to believe. I would have done better going to Denny’s. I am out of $ 18.00 … Don’t waste your money… On the good side the, orange juice was great! P. S. I left the to-go box on the table, paid my bill and this place will never see me again.

If you are craving great breakfast, this is the place to come to! This was my first stop in San Diego and I did not regret it. The French Toast is massive and cooked to perfection. Staff was very friendly and the coffee was great. It is an older building but for me that means there is good food to be had! Location is good and has ample parking. Part of me wishes they were open longer so I could have breakfast for dinner.

So much better than my previous experiences… I gave this place a scathing review the last time due to horrible service, but none of that was evident during my last few visits, and the food has gotten much better as well. Spice house has always had humongous portions, but never really struck me as something amazing until today. I discovered their eggs florentine, much like eggs benedict, instead substituting bacon and spinach for the canadian bacon, and is an absolutely perfect breakfast for me as I love bacon and spinach. How can you go wrong? Then you top it off with hollandaise sauce? Game over. My experience from the cashier to the wait staff was extremely friendly and a completely different experience than I had in the past. I will not hesitate to dine here again, as I mentioned before the portions are huge and the quality is substantially better than I remember. So if you’re not looking to wait in line forever at pancake house, this is the place to go for a quick quality breakfast that could put dennys out of business if they wanted to. If you havent just finished running a 5k, or have s huge appetite one meal can literally feed two, so keep that in mind as you will be bringing leftovers home! Great job on the recovery spice house!

So, Coco’s closed another restaurant in the neighborhood and I needed to find another breakfast place to hang out with my favorite niece and this is it! I got the gyros omelet and it was the best egg dish I’ve ever had! The service was super friendly and fast. My niece got the veggie frittata with avocado on the top — it was huge and she loved it. I’m so happy we tried it and that it’s our new favorite go-to breakfast spot.

We went to the Spice House for breakfast a few days ago and followed the recommendation by the waitress, rather my wife did. I had my usual of ham and egg. Real ham folks, not chopped and pressed. I loved the taste and it was cooked just right. A light sear, but still very juicy. The egg was a touch underdone. I ordered over medium and got it closer to over easy, but I’m happier with that than it shading to over hard. My wife as I said listened to the waitress. She ordered the French Toast. From the description, I thought she would get a stack of texas toast size slices. No, this comes out four inches thick and is incredible. I don’t know exactly how they make this, but I do know that we’ll come back and split a french toast plate. There is just too much food for one person, unless you are really hungry. I wish I had time to go there for breakfast right now…

I used to come here year ago with a group from work and have enjoyed our experience each time. Recently we started to come again but just couldn’t seem to relieve the same enjoyment we had then. First of, the indoor environment should be spruced up. It doesn’t look like anything was done in ages. It looks very dingy. Secondly, time has changed and society has shift to healthier choices. I understand keeping original dishes on the menu, but I think healthier choices should be added, especially since they don’t allow for substitutions. NOSUBSTITUTIONSALLOWED! Moving on to my 3rd comment, The waitress serving us seemed very afraid and hesitant to ask the manager if they can replace eggs with something else. She came back to offer canned peaches, instead of eggs. CANNED?!! They don’t have fresh fruits available? I asked to have toasted sourdough bread instead of hash brown. You guessed it! That was a «NO», too This may be the last time we come here. I’m giving a since the waitress did try to accommodate our request.

Had breakfast here the other day, and in going to say that I enjoyed the food, but the environment was just a bit strange. The service was good, our waiter was sweet and didn’t rush us through at all! She really did help us with picking out food on the menu, so that was awesome! I think the only thing I could say negative is just that it is not the most inviting environment. I think that I could possibly just be in a different age group than most who enjoy it. It seems like it is now of an elderly spot! But the food was really good!

Amazing french toast, it may be the best I have ever had. Everything else was good and the coffee kept coming. Staff was friendly and the food came fast. The hash browns were a little underdone and a little raw in the middle.

Staff was very nice, but meal was HORRIBLE. Ordered Greek chicken meal. Part was pink and the other part tasted funky so after two bites I was done. Greek salad tastes bitter and not even the fries were cooked through.

A decent breakfast place with some Greek influence. Very nice and pleasant staff. The food was not outstanding for breakfast but was decent. The prices seemed high for the area, but nothing that was unreasonable. Seemed nice for families and there were quite a few regulars who were greeted warmly. A nice thing was there was plenty of food and decent portions.

For«cornbread sized» french toast, then you have to try this place! I love, love, LOVE french toast! Little did I know, that their French Toast Combo… came with«LOAF» sized french toast. I’m talkin’ «LOAF.» And guess what? It was AMAZING! Once I received my plate, my friend quickly asked, «is that cornbread?!» Hahaha, I said, «That’s french toast right?» And sure enough, it was REALLY good! I know that sometimes in a diner setting that it can get loud and busy. For my friends and I meeting here to discuss business, we got our breakfast fast, polite service and it was quiet. Oh and did I mention? The FRENCHTOASTCOMBO was amazing! Funny how we chose to go to Spice House Café. Our original choice was closed and we found Spice House close by. It was a great find! Spice House Café, for at least the french toast, is the place for breakfast with good friends and an enjoyable experience. Oh and before I forget… try the French Toast! Mmmhmm.

For some reason I was craving french toast and grits. I typed those things into my trusty Unilocal app and Spice House came up close to home. We came on a Friday morning. There were several cars in the private lot but there were plenty of spaces. We were greeted warmly and seated promptly. Our waiter came over within minutes to take our drink orders then returned a few minutes later with drinks and to take our food order. I ordered the french toast, a side of grits and one egg and one egg white scrambled. My fiancé ordered the gyro omelette. The waitress came back after a few minutes and said they wouldn’t be able to scramble my egg and egg white together. I found that odd since I’ve ordered that at many restaurants and diners before with no problems. I settled on one egg. As you can see from the picture it was definitely one egg. My grits and french toast were on point though. Not the best french toast I’ve ever had but it was really thick and hit the spot. My fiancé enjoyed his gyro omelette down to the last bite. Our waitress came by several times to check on us. All and all a pretty good experience.

Seeing how I was in the area this past weekend and have been meaning to try out Spice House Café for quite some time, I made the decision to come here for breakfast. Since it was my first time here, I figured I’d go big and went with their Ribeye Steak and Eggs plate, with a side of hashbrowns and a biscuit w/sausage gravy. For $ 10.95, I definitely got what I paid for — the meal itself was pretty huge, and the steak was cooked the way I wanted it(medium well). The 2 scrambled eggs were freshly cooked, and the hash browns were crispy enough. Unfortunately, the biscuit was quite dense, and there weren’t too many sausage pieces in the gravy. Spice House Café can sure use a makeover; the signage is dated(the main marquee advertizes breakfast, lunch, and dinner, yet the place is only open for breakfast and lunch), the booths seem a bit run down, and I spent 10 minutes after receiving my bill waiting for someone to pick it up… and eventually flagged down one of the servers to ask if I have to pay out front(which you do). But, seeing how it’s the owner and his family that are taking orders and bussing tables, as well as the portion sizes being as large as they are, and it’s no wonder why this diner gets pretty packed over the weekends. 3.5 star review overall… and I want to come back for the Gyros Omelette.
