This is the worst experience I have ever had. I took my 2 daughters to the Strands Salon for Keratin complex treatment before their school started. The treatment for both of them costs $1020. As mentioned in their website, this treatment is supposed to last from 3 to 5 months. After 3 days of following all instructions( No sweat, no wash, Applying sulfate free shampoo after 3 days). Their hair turned out terrible and became more curly and frizzy than before. The girls and I were shocked and stressed at the results. I took them back to the salon and the owner and the stylist agreed that the results were terrible and the owner blamed it on the product they used for my daughters’ hair. I requested a full refund but the owner refused and insisted on blaming the product they used and offering to apply another treatment. But I’m no longer comfortable or willing to trust them to apply any low quality product on my daughters’ hair. The owner was so rude and kept me waiting on the phone for a long time and at the end she just hung up.

I would definitely avoid this place at all costs. Do yourself a favor and save your money and your hair. This place doesn’t deserve even one star!

I needed a trim badly and I had an appointment at another salon. I was annoyed when they called and cancelled my appointment at 6:00 the night before– little time to find an alternative. I decided to try Strands since it is so close to my home now. I was so glad I did. I was able to be seen by Liz at 5:00 pm and she was very friendly from the start and receptive to what I said I wanted. She gave me a great head and neck massage during my shampoo. Then she gave me a nice cut with long layers and side swept bangs. My hair looks and feels so light and healthy and shiny. I am a fan and am definitely going back to Liz. She’s great!!! I have received numerous compliments on my beautiful hair both from people I work with and family and friends. I was surprised how many male friends noticed and gave me a compliment.

Michael is excellent at coloring and cutting hair. I am so impressed because I thought I needed my white roots redone but because my hair is so light he suggested I wait a couple more weeks. Said no one can tell but me, I waited and I appreciated his honesty. He could be making a lot more money off me but he values his integrity.
Keep up the great work Michael.

Nice atmosphere. Great cut and color by Megan. Megan is an excellent listener and asks good questions that helped her create exactly what I wanted. She even made some good suggestions that I had not thought of. Will definitely be back to see Megan for my next hair cut and color.

I am a huge Aveda fan, I had always bought their products of their shiner, damage, lotion and tea & their shampoo and conditioner. I was a Gila Rut regular until I found out there was one right next door to where I work! To save the drive, I decided to try it out and go blonde…
I LOVE my blonde hair! I get so many compliments and many of my exes now want me back! Haha
My hairstylist´s name is Liz… Liz is AMAZING. I showed her a picture of this blonde chick and after three visits, she got it to the color of what I desired. She improved it more because I had a different skin color than the one pictured so she added highlights on my roots and balayage the middle towards the end.
I am so in love with my hair! I paid so little and it still ended a with a high quality result. Check out my before and after photo!

So I’ve been avoiding cutting my hair, because I’ve been nervous trusting anyone since my original stylist left. She used to work at this salon, so my friend and I booked us two hair appointments. We were at least hoping that we’d get the same good cuts since we were familiar with the location already. WE WERE CORRECT! Jessica did my hair she’s newer to this store, but UH-​mazing! Came out feeling like a whole new person and not to mention even more beautiful hair, thanks to her! Love that I can book online and will be going back to her for sure!

Let me just start out by saying that I have haircut phobia. I don’t trust ANYONE with my hair. Long, thick, wavy, you get the idea. With that being said, Rachelle g
gave me the best haircut of my life today. She was professional, kind and knew her stuff! She gave me the exact cut that I wanted and even recommended a few suggestions along the way that made all the difference in the end. Called to book the appointment at 12 and was able to get an appointment at 3 that same day!
Highly recommend this salon and Rachelle for anyone who is as picky as I am about my hair.

Called and asked if there was anyone available to do a walk-​in haircut in 10 mins and the receptionist said that Michael was available. Got in my car and drove straight in and was told that Michael isn’t comfortable with the amount of time available to do a haircut because he had someone booked in 40 mins. Seems like the receptionist didn’t really do her job and didn’t own up to her mistake. She said «we book each client for an hour.» If you do that and Michael had an 11:30, why did you tell me at 10:40 that he was free? Huge waste of time.

Clean beautiful salon. Customer service was awesome. Walks in welcome. Isabel was my stylist. She was quick and knew exactly what she was doing. I asked for a pixie cut and she did a great job. My usual stylist was unavailable and I needed a quick fix. I would recommend this place to anyone!

As a first time customer I had high hopes since reading all the good reviews on Michael. Had a haircut appointment scheduled for Friday at 12:15 to see Michael. Front desk person calls me at 12:20 on Thursday asking if I was still planning on coming in «today». I corrected her and stated my appointment isn’t until Friday and she says ok we’ll see you on Friday then. I arrive on Friday only to be told that Michael is not able to see me but Megan will be able to see me. Desperate to get my hair cut I have Megan do it. I look over at the front desk while I’m getting my cut and see a «male» on the phone for a good 15 minutes then leaves. Would’ve been nice to get a formal sincere, courteous apology. What’s happened to good ol customer service people? Thankful Megan did a decent job but won’t be going to this establishment again.

It is not very often you come across a talented and charismatic hair dresser. Michael at Strands Hair Salon in Rancho Bernardo embodies the perfect stylist. He took my dull, long and very dry hair, and gave me the most beautiful, natural-​looking caramel highlights and a stylish cut. His great personality and stories will keep you entertained from wash to cut to blow dry. I will definitely be seeing a lot of Michael in my hair future!

I just moved back to San Diego and needed my hair done. Found another salon here on Unilocal,and they totally f***ed up my hair. I left that place in tears. I went to Strands because it was the only place open on a Sunday and willing to see me a few days before the holiday. And I saw Megan because she was the person there and willing to see me. But I lucked out because she is awesome. I walked in there with a horrible hair job. It was cut too short, unevenly and choppy, with reddish brown streaks and bright orange splotches and pink and bright red splotches and a blonde spot in the back. It was awful and I was in tears. I was distraught. It was the holidays, I had family coming into town, and I work in healthcare, so I couldn’t even go to work until it was fixed. Megan did a total color correction, weaved some dark foils in to break up the splotchy spots, and did my hair a pretty dark reddish brown. She also evened up the choppy haircut without sacrificing much more length. So she is a lifesaver. And I will be a loyal client. Besides being so talented with her job, she also is a super friendly person and had some great suggestions about local breweries and whatnot. Megan’s awesome. And so is Corwin. At one point Megan asked Corwin’s opinion and he came over and had some great suggestions and it was great. All around pleasant experience. If they offer you tea though, decline. It was lukewarm and kinda gross. But nobody goes there for the tea, right? There’s a Starbucks next door.

I recently moved back to SD this past summer and was in need of a haircut. My mom has always had her hair done by Amparo (Owner) and swears by this place. So, I thought I would give it a shot.
Well, I hit the haircut lottery. Megan is the absolute best! She is incredibly professional, and has a really fun, laid-​back attitude. I am typically a shy person, but Megan makes it easy to open up and have a good conversation. She really does everything she can to make the haircut a great experience from start to finish. I particularly enjoy the head/​shoulder massage and the shampoo — both are incredibly relaxing. Of course, the haircut is great, too — I have never felt so good about my hair! Thanks Megan!

I loved the way she styled my hair from a previous salon she worked at and when I found out she moved to a new location, I just had to follow her. That says a lot about a hair stylist. Granted I’ve only gotten my hair styled from her (no other service done), but this salon offers more than just that.
They can do keratin treatments, full color, highlights, makeup, and your standard styling and haircuts.
Jessica does such a good job from start to finish. She really treats you well and genuinely wants you to have the best hair experience ever. I just love her. She is professional, down to earth, and meticulous. She truly wants you to LOVE your hairstyle so you’ll ask you questions until you are satisfied. Now that’s great customer service !
She does the best curls on my hair that lasts for hours (even the following day) and she doesn’t douse my hair with so much products so it will stay intact. She truly has the magic curl touch !
Along with that, I enjoy the shampoo and condition session and head massage. Feels so good and relaxing. I just want to fall asleep every time.
I’m always pleased with her work and walk out feeling like a million bucks (without spending that much of course) ! Only wish she can do my hair everyday. I can never do it as good as she does so this is always a treat for me, especially on Pamper Shay Days !
The salon is located in a shopping plaza with plenty of parking. Interior is very spacious and has a nice open feel. Customer service has been friendly, but I’ve only been there once.
Overall, I give Jessica 5 stars. I have yet to try their other services or gotten any other stylist/​hair dresser so that rating is still pending.
Looking forward to getting dolled up again real soon.

I have been going to Michael for about 6 months and I love him!!! I had black hair and he helped me get rid of it! He knew how to lift the color out of my hair with minimal damage. Thanks Michael!

Michael is brilliant! My last hairdresser left to go home to Iran and I was left in a bind. I read great reviews about Michael and I was NOT disappointed! He gave me an amazing color and cut. I got so many compliments after I saw him. Don’t hesitate to give Michael a try you will be happy you did!!!

MEGAN did a great job with my hair! I went in just wanting a simple trim and some bangs, but she made other recommendations that would make my hair look healthier and more manageable. She exceeded my expectations. Best haircut I’ve had in a very long time.

Super disappointed. Walked in the door at 6:25 PM to see if they could trim my 9 year old sons hair. I was told they were closing and they turned me away to go somewhere else.
The sign on the door says 7PM.
They also locked up at 6:32pm while I wrote my review.
So someone from the salon responded and I would like to update some more:
So place a sign that says walk-​ins not accepted. If I were coming there to buy product then the door would have been locked during what your sign says is normal business hours.
I have had my hair done there in the past as well as my son… it wasn’t like I was asking for a cut, color, perm… hours worth of work. I was simply asking them to clean up and trim my 9 year old son who has short hair. Something that took another salon 15 min.
I will never recommend your salon again, I won’t buy product from you again. Stick to your hours on the door and put up a sign that says no walk ins and thay should solve your poor customer service.

I have been a client of Strands Salon for over 6 years now. I’ve always gone to Allison because of how skillful, professional and attentive she is. When I tell her about what I want she listens and does exactly what I ask for which is a big plus. Giving this rating a 5 stars because she fixed my hair once again!
Back in 2009, I had a really bad hair cut from a friend and she helped me grow my hair back… Well in early July, 2015 I had a friend do my hair again which was a stupid idea… My hair got cut wrong and once again, Allison fixed my terrible hair cut.

I just moved to the area and saw the high reviews on this salon and decided to take a chance. I made an appointment with Liz based off the great reviews. Day of appointment I was called early in the day and was asked if I could move my appointment to an hour later. Sure, not a problem. I met with Liz and she was pleasant enough but maybe because it was the end of the day and she saw how much roots she had to cover maybe that was a factor. The color went fine except for the color left on my skin, that I could deal with. But having my hair pulled as it was being blow dried like it was coming out of my socket and at one point Liz even joked about how my head snapped back from the force was not exactly a pleasant experience. Needless to say I was really disappointed by my first experience there.
