If you don’t love sushi burritos then you’re probably a jerk and we shouldn’t be friends.

I tried sushi freak one day using postmates to get it delivered to my work during lunch I had the Waikiki roll which was like a crunch roll with coconut shreds on top. Now I love coconut but I did not really care for this roll. It is something I would not try again! But since the sushi wasn’t horrible 4 stars, it actually tasted pretty fresh.

I didn’t think I would like sushi burritos but they are legit. I have ordered at last 5 burritos here in the last 3 weeks and they were all great. They should consider offering brown rice as an option

I’ve always had left overs from Sushi freak but today I had it fresh and made my own roll and it’s very yummy(: the price is reasonable and the portion is worth it. The tuna is a bit chewy but it could just be me. The tempura they put in the roll is very crunchy in a good way and has a lot of flavor.

The quality of food here is not that great and I think the only real reason they have a following is because it’s one of the only places you can get a sushi-rito. The fish is not that fresh and I know this because I ate here and have tasted the fish. It’s ok and yes, by ok, I mean it’s just ok. The rice is too sticky meaning that the consistency and texture of the rice makes eating their sushi like your eating paste and their spicy mayo is not spicy at all. I had the Calamari Crunch roll, which is supposed to have jalapeños in it and there was maybe half a jalapeño in every other slice of the roll. The rooster roll’s sauce was really disgusting to me because it looked white and the texture of it made me think of milk because the sauce looked like milk. That being said, I didn’t even eat the rooster roll. I only tried half a slice of the rooster roll and had to spit it out. All in all, not a great experience here at all and again, it’s because the quality of the food isn’t good at all. I think the only great thing was the sparkling water I bought. The fish tastes fishy(meaning it’s not fresh), the rice tastes like pastes, and the sauces aren’t spicy. Plus, after eating here mind you, I broke out into hives which is basically my body telling me to never to eat here again. One star for obvious reasons.

Our friend brought us here one day since we told him that we really like sushi. He told us right away that it’s not a nicer sushi place compared to other places we go, but when you want something similar to sushi that’s raw fish it’s not bad. That was a perfect way to introduce this place. They serve sushi rolls, sushi burrito hybrids that are more similar to an oversized hand roll and a few hot items like teriyaki chicken. We’ve only had rolls and burritos and they’re pretty good. You can build your own, you just have to ask, which is what I have come to do since I like the fish more than the added fillers. They’re reasonably priced as well. The burritos are about $ 10 a piece so you’ll walk out with a drink for about $ 12 – 14. It’s reasonable and the food is good. The only downsides are the service, which isn’t excellent but understandable as you’re interacting with the people while they’re making the food, so they’re side tracked, and the plates are awkwardly shaped and hard to clear off into the trash as the hole for the trash can is far too small. If you like raw fish and hand rolls, stop by here. It’s good.

I’ve only been here for their sushi burritos and for some reason I keep coming back for more. My coworker introduced me to Sushi Freak because I told her I’ve never had a «sushirrito» before. I keep seeing comparisons to the one in SF so sushi freak is in luck! Since I’ve never tried the one in SF, I have nothing to compare it to, so for ME it was great! Every time I’ve been here I’ve ordered the«Gunshow» burrito($ 10). The burrito is huge and I was only able to eat half and be satisfied and save the rest for later. If I really wanted to be a fatty I definitely could finish it but didn’t want to feel disgusted afterwards. The portion was great too. not too much rice, just the right amount. I do love the sauce it comes with. definitely adds more flavor to the burrito. I normally use a lot of soy sauce with sushi so adding this sauce made it perfect! I do want to try their regular rolls here, but for some reason I’m always drawn to the burritos.

3 stars because the service wasn’t that great. The food was really good though, we were in the area picking up flowers for my wedding at wholesale flowers. We got the fist pump and the gun show(get the gun show — so good)!! My maid of honor called to order and said the lady sounded mean. I got out of the car to pick up our order and the lady was mean. I worked in restaurants for 8 years(some good and some bad — very bad I hated my life) and I never acted like that. She didn’t smile at all and when I asked for soy sauce and ponzu she gave me a nasty stare and said«soy sauce is in the bag and the sushi burrito’s already comes with eel & spicy mayo sauce.» I understand sometimes people are having a bad day but that was not this — she just didn’t like her job. I get it, the service industry is very hard especially when you work near a college but its not fair to others to spread your bad attitude, someone might come in who is having a horrible day and all you’re going to do it make it worse. Put a smile on and try to treat people with respect, at the end of the day everyone will be happier even you.

I’m in love with the Gun Show. I have them remove the ebi, and I usually add extra hot sauce that’s it, so good don’t need to try anything else. I’m an addict.

I wanted to try this place out solely for their sushi burrito. Came in & ordered the fist bump. So good, I came in a week layer & couldn’t try another item, I had to get the same thing. Shared both times, so the portion is pretty big & filling. It’s a small restaurant in a cute shopping center. Maybe 10 tables? You go in, order & you can either have a seat & they’ll call you, or you can stand there & watch them make it. I’ll be back! Definitely.

Thank you Instagram for introducing me to this place. I bet a lot of USD student are aware of this place, but for someone who doesn’t frequent that side of town this was a nice little discovery. In lieu of the sushi burrito movement in SF, I was happy to learn that SD is taking suit.(I think we’re going more crazy on the poke!) The hubby and I ventured out to Sushi Freak to try out their list of sushi burritos. They have a separate menu for their sushi burritos which includes up to 6 – 7 kinds. The hubs went for the Gun Show which was practically a California roll and I went for the Mr./Dr. Eel(unagi, cucumber, crab and other veggie stuff). This thing was pretty massive… in terms of rolls, I think it was a combination of two rolls. Served on a triangle plate with a side of ginger, wasabi, and cucumber salad the sushi burrito was wrapped, cut and placed every so slightly on top of each other accompanied with a spicy mayo/unagi sauce mix. or the«salsa». Its a lot of rice! The rice was soft and sticky, not as vinegary as I like it but it really kept the nori and everything in place which I liked. It didn’t fall into pieces after one bite. The unagi was soft and tender with a little smoky taste and the crab wasn’t overpowering or over-mayoed. Everything worked well together, the flavors, the proportions and the textures. I saw surprised how well the nori held up and with every bit you still got that fresh snap out of it. No need to struggle to try and bite through a chewy nori wrapper. I’d go back to try the other ones. When it really came down to it, it reminded me of a oversized handroll.

The sushi burritos and rolls here are too freakishly huge for one man to eat. I ordered the Fistbump burrito and the friendly guys accommodated my special request to substitute krabmix in for the spicy tuna. Rice was cooked perfectly and the seaweed was roasted, score!!! The side of tempura shrimp was also a great deal; you get four very battered pieces of tempura shrimp for $ 3.95 total(sorry vegetarians, no vegetable tempura). I was quite impressed with my experience here. The only thing I would suggest that the employees do more often is wipe down the patron tables. The tables are a little bit icky… If you are looking for super fancy 5-star sushi rolls, Sushi Freak might be a little too unorthodox for you. If you are like me and don’t find raw fish appealing, this place will satisfy your Japanese-appetite needs!

Home of the Sushiritto! I have been here twice before & absolutely loved it! Unfortunately, my recent experience was not good. I ordered a sushiritto : Gunshow — Seaweed, salmon, tuna, shrimp, krab mix, avocado, cucumber,(spicy) masago The sushiritto was huge! A great size to get you full. However, it is impossible to eat! It was too big that everything was falling apart, & eventually the burrito broke. Too much rice & the fish tasted kinda funny.

I wanted to try this place out solely for their sushi burrito. Regardless of the low ratings on Unilocal,I wanted to experience it myself. There’s not many places here in San Diego that offers sushi burritos. The restaurant itself is small, but has nice tables and seatings inside. It’s almost like a subway styled sushi restaurant. You can either order something on the menu, or create your own sushi which is pretty cool. You order first, watch them while they make the food, then pay for it and seat yourself at any table. The GunShow Sushi Burrito $ 9.95 (Seaweed, Salmon, Tuna, Ebi, Crab Mix, Avocado, Cucumber, Masago, Spicy Mayo, Unagi, & Mango Sauce) This was the most flavorless and driest sushi burrito I’ve ever had. I didn’t even taste any mango sauce. I had to drench my burrito in spicy mayo sauce in order to eat it. I had trouble finishing it. The rice tasted sour too. They could definitely put a better effort into making a better crab mix too. And although I ordered it with spicy masago, it really wasn’t spicy at all. The burrito tasted like the most generic sushi roll that you could ever buy from like a grocery store where you wouldn’t expect to buy sushi from. It just plain sucked. Let me repeat… FLAVORLESS and DRY. I did notice that they have a lot of Hello Kitty wine and champagne bottles for sale here which would make a nice gift, but most likely wouldn’t taste any good. But would make a pretty decoration for your house if you’re into Hello Kitty. Lol. Overall, staff was nice and restaurant was quiet and peaceful. Good concept on food but food quality and taste sucks.

Yummmm! My friend got me the Gunshow burrito with salmon, tuna, Ebi, krabmix, avocado wrapped in seaweed. It’s like 10times the size of a sushi roll. Delicious you can taste everything in every bite.

AMBIANCE: The place is cute. It’s small, with maybe 6 or so tables, I saw quite a few people taking their orders to go. The restroom has some funny posters hung up telling you the sushi freak etiquette and how to not use your chopsticks. They have plenty of bottled drinks as well as fountain drinks. Side note, they have absolutely adorable little menus you can take home. SERVICE: This place needs more workers! I guess the kitchen did look small, so there were only 3 workers. Each roll and burrito were made mainly only by one person, which may make the food consistent but the lines extremely slow. This place has an order area, then watch your roll get made and pay area, going down the line, 1, 2, 3. You pay and tip on the iPad. When you’re done with your food, I think we leave our plates on the table but there were so little workers, that there was no one bussing the tables… Customer service is okay. When my friend tried taking a picture of the workers making her sushi burrito, he did not allow it, weird… I would think that they would want to promote their business. FOOD: We tried a few of the house made sauces, the wasabi mayo, spicy mayo, and mango. They were all good, but my favorite was the mango sauce, delicious! With all these build your own … food concepts going around, sushi had to be one of them!!! I love sushi and building my own sushi rolls, or add a dollar for a sushi burrito is a great option to have. I had to get a sushi burrito because it’s more unique to San Diego. And the GUNSHOW sushi burrito already had everything I wanted, and would be cheaper than if I had made my own with all the same ingredients, so I had to try it. Gunshow included seaweed, tuna, salmon, shrimp, krab mix, masago, avocado and cucumber. The fish, ingredients, wasabi and ginger were all good. Wasabi wasn’t the super water downed type and the ginger wasn’t pink(food colored). We also got a little cucumber salad on the side with our ginger and wasabi. The sushi burrito was a tad bit bland, but everything was fixed with the wasabi and side of sauce. Prices are a bit steep, I won’t come all the time, but will definitely come back to try more sauces and different kinds of burritos!

I’ve been a Sushi Freak customer for years now. They add a trendy twist to sushi and it’s really unique. Good sushi and decent prices($ 10ish). All sushi rolls come with a cucumber salad on the side-yum! To be honest I haven’t ever tried their«build your own» or old school rolls. I recommend the new school rolls and the sushi burrito(gun show) for a fun alternative to a regular sushi roll. New school rolls I recommend: Waikiki: Sweet and has a nice crunch. The coconut and mango compliment the cream cheese and tempura very tastefully. Sumo: Can’t go wrong with the classic tempura order. I recommend having them roll it «regular» because if not you’ll have 5 jumbo pieces and it will fall apart when you eat it. Rock star roll: I think this one is a special roll so they might not always have it but it’s a shrimp tempura roll with a spicy kick to it. Also, make sure to pick up a frequent buyer card so that you can get your 10th roll free.

Great place to go to for a quick dinner. Very nice and friendly atmosphere. For sushi the fish is super fresh and great tasting for a reasonable price. The sushi burritos asked you have to you have to try. By far hands-down the best sushi burrito place in San Diego. I would highly recommend is to friends and family we go to this place every Sunday for service.

Had to go here and give the epic sushi burrito a try. First let me air my grievances… I accidentally spilled the sauce all over the floor and table when we went to sit down(yeah I’m a clutz, and I was freaking stoked to try my burrito!), so anyway we told the guy at the counter expecting him to come out and assist with the clean up with a big towel or something. He does come out, but he just sets another thing of sauce out and heads back into the kitchen. Weird. Okay. Second the trash hole for the place return is just ridiculously small. They should prob fix this. As for food– everything I expected and more. A sushi burrito! Definitely felt like a bit of a fat ass, but I enjoyed every bite. My friend and I got the fistbump and gunshow and split each half and half. And they were both delicious, and the dipping sauce is pretty fantastic(so thanks guy who works here, I guess you got your priorities straight after all in replenishing my sauce rather than cleaning up the floor). Their sushi rolls are probably really good as well, but how can you go here without getting the sushi burrito?! Definitely recommended to try.

Sushi freak is a great place to stop in for a quick sushi roll. It’s the chipotle-style buffet of sushi, yum! They have an impressive selection of various rolls and if this doesn’t please you they also offer a build your own! I have never tried the actual food or the sushirito but it looks good. My only complaint about this place is its normally slow. If you come and there’s people in line in front of you, your roll could take 10 – 15 minutes. Given they are hand making everyone’s roll there really isn’t room to be upset but it is a little annoying! Customer service isn’t overly friendly, but not unfriendly either. Nice outdoor seating area if the weather permits. They also have sake bombs if you want to spice up your lunch break. Get a punch card and every 10th roll is free!
