The Habitat

It was only a couple months ago that I found out about this gem of a venue in Golden Hill. After seeing my first show there I was hooked. This place should be Unilocal’d a whole bunch more in my opinion. When I have gone it has been quite an experience you are up close to the band members get to talk to them its probably the most intimate show you will ever go to this place is a house slash recording studio slash venue. The people who know about it are all fine to be around and I found no snobbery since this seems to be such a secret venue. Bring your drink of choice check it out it have some fun mingle and of course listen to some great music all for the price of nada it will not disappoint.

the habitat is absolutely the best place to catch a show in san diego! roy is an incredible engineer and a gracious and generous host. shows are sporadic and have an interesting range in style and type of music/​performance. very cool underground venue!

Hard to believe no «Yelp!» for The Habitat, which, to my mind– is one of the top three places to see music in San Diego County. Located in the heart of lovely golden hill (on the slope!) the Habitat performs two functions: recording studio and venue.
In terms of the recording studio– Red Pony Clock just finished their full length debut there.
In terms of the venue– they showcase everything from acoustic guitar to indie pop– nothing heavier then that. The Habitat is a single family house, so every show is intimate and mellow as all get out.
All events are free, but bring money to eiither donate directly to travelling bands OR to buy their merch. The shows always feature a mixture of local and touring bands. You can find their show info on their myspace– shows typically run from about 9 PM to midnight depending on the number of bands.
This is a venue that will eventually be referred to as «legendary” — there’s no doubt in my mind
This year, they are also doing the first every «San Diego Pop Fest” — that’s on September 1^st– it should be quite a month for indpendent music in golden hill– Sessions Fest is in Golden Hill Park on Septemeber 15^th!
