I would give this place 4 stars solely based on quality of food, BUT, service matters too and it was less than good. At first glance you are not sure what to expect but once seated and looking over the menu I was optimistic. We had a variation of breakfast plates and everyone really liked their food. The waffle was really delicious. The problem was with our waitress, she seemed bothered by the add ons after our initial order and we waited for syrup long after we had been served our meals and when we asked for the syrup(2x) her response was curt and just a tinch rude. I really liked the food just too bad service didn’t match in quality.

What a fantastic greasy spoon hidden in Mission Heights. Go here for a cozy atmosphere full of colorful locals being served up breakfast favorites from staff that treat them like family. I tried the French toast topped with fried chicken. Oh man, everything was delicious. Gooey toast smothered in syrup, marmalade and apple butter topped with four pieces of crispy chicken. Add in a bottomless cup of Folgers and you have your classic diner experience covered. Long live Huddle!

I was here recently looking for an old fashioned diner run by a Mom and Pop that’s been around for awhile. It was just that and the food was so good that we tried to recreate one of their Eggs Benedict recipes. It did not come out the same as there’s. Not quite as good. I had an omelette with spinach and feta that was great. Another nice touch was the apple butter! It is a bit cramped and out dated in décor, but that adds to the charm. Service was quick, but not all that friendly. For a breakfast spot that will leave you nostalgic, and that you can wear your Jammie’s to, not break the bank, this is it.

Just ok, nothing to write home about. The place screams mom and pop shop, which can be nice except when you get mom on a lack-luster day. Went yesterday and our food was just ok, the service was uninspired. My wife ordered the waffle, which on the menu has«Strawberries and whipped cream» right under the Belgian waffle listing. The waffle came out with butter and nothing else. My wife asked about the strawberries and whipped cream and«mom» said, «you didn’t order that, you just ordered a belgian waffle». She went on to say, «even if you did order strawberries and whipped cream I would have told you that we were out». Sorry, but maybe they should take a moment to explain what is and is not included. That’s typically how you up-sell someone but that can also help someone be satisfied with their meal. I had an omelette with bacon, feta and spinach. The feta was in the omelette but they also put two pieces of sliced cold cheese on top of my omelette. I found that weird and I like hot food, ooey gooey melty food on a cold morning. This place just did not hit the spot. After yesterday, chances are I will not be back. There are too many other competing businesses on that block alone that kick the pants off the Huddle.

I have mixed opinions about this place. The food was okay for a good price, the coffee was decent and the service was mediocre. I had the chicken friend steak which wasn’t very good and my friend had the french toast which was awesome and cheap. Great home made jam. Not a good place for large parties but pretty awesome for two people.

Exceptional gem in mission hills. Has old world diner charm. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the hash browns were crispy and delicious. We had milkshakes to go — outstanding ice cream based. If you love traditional home cooked food, this is a must-visit place.

An old school diner that serves Good ol’ Chicken and Waffles. Yeah, it completed my sweet and savory quest here at «The Huddle». Seriously, those three pieces of golden orange fried chicken were really tasty! Crispy outside and white tender meats inside. The waffles were crisp, add some syrup for flavor. It doesn’t end there, our waitress says the melted butter that comes with it in the silver cup is made hot. Pouring the butter on this was icing on the cake. The combination is simple, tasty, sweet, savory, and it hit my soul. It even left me an awesome after taste in the later part of my day. The other order was their Crab Cakes eggs Benedict. My wife says that they were okay and she had better, but it’s nothing special than the Chicken & Waffles. This place is tucked in between some newer joints in the area. You could tell from the outside of this place that its old fashioned. Also, going inside felt like this place opened up generations ago.

Having spent many years in the South, I was missing Waffle House this morning and had a mean craving for yummy, affordable waffles and hashbrowns. Thanks to the tempting Unilocal photos, decided to try The Huddle which is very close to us in Mission Hills. What a treat. The décor and vibe are old school local diner. The Belgian Waffles were outstanding(not like those at WaHo, but thick and pillowy with an excellent buttery flavor), and the hash browns scattered and crispy the way they should be. The fam enjoyed their bacon cheeseburger(breakfast and lunch served all day – sweet!) with fries, and we got out of there for less than $ 30 for a fam of 4(don’t think that’s possible at nearby Brooklyn Girl, Patio on Goldfinch, etc). Would have liked more pie options(you can order ahead quite a few whole varieties but only 1 type was available by the slice today), and wouldn’t recommend for a group of more than 4 since the place is quite small with only 2 inside tables that could seat up to 4, but not a problem for us. Will return!

Found this place on Unilocal when looking for a breakfast place. Missed it when I drove by the time, so drove around again and found it. It’s a small little place like an old school diner so we had to wait a few minutes for a table. SOWORTHTHEWAIT! I got the Chicken & Waffle… Oh so good, moist chicken **drooling**

We found this place by accident… it’s a small been there for ages kinda place. No fancy dishes, tables or flooring. They do have good food, homemade jam, awesome cup of coffee and a lot of good old fashion customer service. We will be back

My partner in crime and I were out looking for a breakfast spot and almost went to Brooklyn Girl Eatery, but they were closed(Monday morning). We almost went across the street to The Patio on Goldfinch, but we saw a guy walking out of The Huddle and he recommended we go in. He told us he eats there regularly and that both the food and service were great. To us that was a sign that we need to try the place. This place is a no frills, old school diner. It’s a smaller place, so probably not good for a bigger group(of 6 or more). We were greeted, seated and menus were brought out. We ended up ordering: chicken and waffles(for me) and French toast, eggs, and bacon(which was the daily breakfast special); it was all pretty good. The place looks old school and could probably use a little renovation, but I feel it gives the place some character. Our server was nice, funny(cracked a few jokes), and attentive. He made sure our drinks were filled and that we were happy with our food. Overall, we had a good experience. I’d return again for breakfast.

The Mission Hills neighborhood has had this eatery around for nearly over 30 years and it’s a go spot for some local diner-style breakfast and lunch. They open early at the crack of down at around 530 am in the morning for breakfast, so early people like me can get in before the parking out on the street dries up. The inside of the restaurant is quite small with the grill directly behind the front counter, which gives it a very up and close atmosphere of dining. There are some tables outside if you prefer outdoors, they’re directly on the sidewalk. The breakfast menu( ) has your typical breakfast items with eggs, potatoes, protein and some stuff from the griddle. What caught my eye was their bakery menu which features both a cinnamon roll and a pecan roll. It’s kind of hard to pass up sweets in the morning with your coffee. The coffee here isn’t anything particularly special, but it was brewed good and fresh. I ordered the basic two egg cheddar omelet with some avocado added to the order. You’re given the option of a side with either potatoes or refried beans along with a bread option. The omelet came out relatively fast and was handed to me by the cook behind the counter. Rather good sized omelet( ) for two eggs. They charged me extra for the avocado, but they didn’t skimp, they gave me lots of fresh avo inside( ). While the omelet was just okay, not much can be said about a cheese omelet really but the refried beans were quite amazing. They were perfectly seasoned and tasted pretty damn good for basic beans. The toasted English muffin( ) came out pre-buttered, some of us want dry bread maybe not the majority though. Even though the waitress warned me that the pecan roll was massive, I went ahead and ordered one on the side. The pecan rolls( ) here are exceptionally delicious. They are packed with lots of sweet sugary icing on the inside with some crunchy pecans on top. The texture of the pecans and the soft sweet bread went well together and coffee to wash it down made it even better. The waitress was right though, it’s a bit big for one person to finish on their own, so I was only able to eat half of it. You might want to just grab one to go for home and warm it up yourself. So at the Huddle, you’re looking too spend about $ 10 for a basic breakfast here. Everyone in the comments say this place is very greasy spoon like, but I really didn’t think my omelet was overly greasy at all really. Everything was cooked very well and the beans had great flavor to them. Their pecan rolls are definitely something everyone should give a try; I also heard that the cinnamon rolls are just as good. The Huddle is a great place to drop in for a quick breakfast, nothing fancy, but just plain old fashion good breakfast food.

We were looking for a small local place to eat and lucked upon this great little diner. I had orange pecan pancakes and cover them with homemade orange marmalade which you can buy and take home. Great service and good prices. It was perfect for a relaxed brunch.

I’ve been eating at the huddle for years, and I want to give it a five star based on the amount of good that they do for the community, but I’m a realist, so keeping it a four stars. First off, it’s no frills at this small diner. So if you want to pay for ambiance and air-conditioning, head next door or across the street. Food service is a little slow, so don’t be in a hurry. They’ve got one burner, two cooks, and all kinds of options on the menu, so take the time to talk to the sincere and salt-of-the-earth human beings who run and occupy this restaurant. The food is great. I’ll have to admit that I really only eat one or two things here: chorizo with hash browns or French toast… okay also the breakfast sandwich. I love it all. Coffee is solid and they keep the cup full. Like I said, what they do in and for the community is what you are paying for. With the proceeds, the family that owns this restaurant has run a special food and goods delivery service for local people with limited mobility due to illnesses such as aids and cancer.

One casual weekday I woke up starving with no food in my kitchen. It was still very early — 5:30AM — so options were limited. I had been meaning to try The Huddle, and seeing as it was open it seemed like fate. The restaurant was unsurprisingly empty except for one man peacefully reading the newspaper. Because I was alone, I sat at the counter and talked to the woman who was the only person working at the time. I ordered the Mexican Omelet, but she didn’t think I’d like that so I changed the order to some omelet with ham and spinach. Although I was half asleep, we talked as she prepared the food — she was very nice and motherly although still respectful by not treating my like the child I look like. The large omelet came with a choice of toast and fruit salad. The fruit was perfectly fresh and was not filled with melons which tends to overpopulate and taint most fruit salads. I had an English muffin, which was way too buttery, and chose apple butter as a spread. The apple butter was delicious and reminded me of Christmas, I just wish the English muffin was not pre-buttered. The omelet was pretty good and came with lovely fresh salsa. That being said, the omelet was really nothing special. Before I left, the lady gave me a punch card and a «huddle-buck», so I get $ 1 off my next order and a free meal(after 10 meals). I doubt I will ever get to the end of that punch card, but it was very nice of her and I probably will return in restless hours when my pantry is bare. I wish I could rate it 3.5÷5 stars, but my rating was pushed to four because i feel like I’d be doing the lady a disservice to rate it three.

If you want ambience, go across the street to The Patio. If you want great food, this is the place. I had the bacon and cheddar omelet,(no crap cheese slices here). Everything from the well done hash browns to the homemade marmalade jam on my toast was great. Wife had chicken and waffles. Now the chicken is great but it’s overshadowed by the light shining from that waffle! One of the best waffles I’ve had in my life. Melted butter, syrup, and a little whip cream made our day. Stop wasting time reading this review and Google map your way over here ASAP.

I was craving a cinnamon roll, and a Google search led me to this place. As everyone has said, it has an old diner feel, and I thought it was pretty cozy feeling. I went on a weekday when there was practically no one there, which was nice. One of the staff was friendly, while the other seemed to be busy in his own world. I got the cinnamon roll that’s grilled and covered in frosting, as well as a side of eggs and bacon. I was given samples of two of the jams, both of which were much too sweet for me, but worth a try if you’re there. The bill seemed a little high, and nothing about the food struck me in a positive or negative way.

Place is cute, food is good. Nothing crazy, your basic menu. Now whatever you do order something that goes well with jam, because those are worth your time. I would consider this place more of a back up.

Been looking for a good fried chicken and waffles spot without going down into Chula Vista area/Lemon Grove. Found it right around the corner! The huddle is a very small diner, feels like something that belongs more in North Park area than this Mission Hills area. Food is very traditional comfort American breakfast food. My BF got the eggs, bacon, and hash browns. The bacon were fried to perfection, crispy, thick and tasty. I got the chicken and waffle, which the chicken had a great fried skin and flavor to it. It was very crispy and had a lot of flavor. Lets say it’s 100x better than KFC! =P. It’s a small diner and it’s very smoky inside, eat outside for that nice breeze!
